Loved Every Single Second.

I have admired David Spade for a while now and I am a huge fan of his so you can imagine how excited I was for Lights Out With David Spade. And let me tell you, the show did not disappoint at all. David Spade brought his witty comedy to late night and finally made late night actually enjoyable to watch which as a fan and follower of late night shows, is a total plus for me.

I know some people may not like the format of not having an actual guest star on the show every night and that they mainly talk about pop culture, but people need to understand that this is David's way of doing late night. Every host does it different and frankly, I enjoy this format of a late night show as you never really see a panel/table during late night shows

I have nothing really negative to say except for one piece of advice, I think David should incorporate some skits and sketches to his show like Trevor Noah does on The Late Show, I think if he does this along with audience participation and also giving a little extra time to go into each topic presented to the panel, he can take this show far and I can see this show going for a few seasons.

Overall, I loved Lights Out with David Spade and I think that everyone who is staying up at 11:30 at night and need something to do or just need a good laugh, Lights Out with David Spade is the way to go.

Good addition to late night TV
scdchunky2 August 2019
I'm not a fan of the late night TV lineup right now. I like Conan but other than him everyone else fails to make me laugh but David Spade is a good host and I enjoy the subjects he talks about and he works well with the lineup of comedians. I also enjoy the lack of politics in this show which is something we need right now in the lineup of late night television.

Has potential

I enjoyed David Spade on Rules of engagement, and Just shoot me. I was expecting great things from this show, some episodes are good, some not so much. Half the jokes don't pan out in the monologue. Very little is said from the guest panel at times. I tried to like the episode with Steven Root, and the Fonz but neither of them had much to say. Comedy Central has had many turds over the years, this show needs a little work but has potential. The episode with Dennis Miller is decent, also the monologue in the Todd Glass episode is quite good.

I could go for 30 more minutes

Is it just me or is every joke funny? I haven't laughed out loud at a show in years. I was so depressed from watching Busy Tonight. Thank you David Spade.

Great Show!!

I haven't watched late night TV in over 10 years cause' they are plain boring without jokes, just self righteous political BS. This show is awesome! David Spade is really genuine as all of his guests are as well. The banter isn't forced and they just let it flow which is very refreshing. I DVR the show as it's in too late for me but have watched it every next day and starting to look forward to it now. I heard about the show on Dan Patrick's radio show. Good luck David! Great idea for a new show!

I Loved it

I'm reviewing this after watching the premier episode, and the caveat here is that I'm already a big fan of David Spade's acting and comedy- and comedy as a whole- so I naturally loved this show. The premise is putting a comedic spin on current events and pop culture. His guests were funny, and there was plenty of improv. I look forward to more of this.

Awesome.

I dig how simple this show is, and I actually laugh watching it. I wish it had an hour timeslot though cause I dont think the guests get enough time to Banter with each other or just shoot . Its slightly Original and quite amusing. worth the watch for sure.

Do Yourself a Big Favor and Go to Bed Early

I originally trashed this, but I've come around a bit. I like David Spade. There, I said it. I thought he was great in Rules of Engagement. He recently had an episode with Adam Sandler that was quite good, to be truthful.

Old Review:

I really wanted to like this show, I swear. There was nothing to like. C or D List guests, tired, unfunny attempts at humor, and nothing in the way of entertainment. As if the show could sink any further, he had Dennis Miller on one night who is like anti-humor, he's like Rush Limbaugh's nephew. Spade is trying for some sort of burlesque atmosphere but it comes across as just seedy and vulgar.

Vulgar. I'm not one to get offended, and this show didn't offend me, but vulgar isn't my cup of tea, not now, not ever. Pop culture references aren't sophistication, dude. Try reading a book. Try travel. Try learning another language. I'm not trying to be a life coach, I'm just trying to make David Spade a more interesting human being.

He does his opening monologue with a plastic beer cup in his hand so it's obvious he's still working his snarky frat-boy angle. Is this really how you want to play out your mid 50s?

I watched another episode to give it one more chance. Nope. Not funny.

First Episode Is Bad--Really Bad
jaipai1331 July 2019
I am a big fan of David Spade. I loved his old comedy central show, so I tuned in thinking it would be funny. It's not.

There were maybe three funny jokes in the entire episode, and the rest was just really awkward and seemed like no one prepared to do a show.

I'll tune in next week just in case it gets better. I hope it does.

Snooze fest!
chrisminutolo24 October 2019
Spade just sounds dull. I don't know if that's his brand or not. I kept checking the time, waiting for an episode to end. I don't normally do that. I'll sit through any piece of trash, but this is a whole new bag.

God awful..
Ichirito2818 October 2019
Was excited to check this out after seeing it's rated so highly on here, and I'm a fan of David.. Much to my dismay it's abominably bad.

WHO is giving this show such high reviews?? Just like mentioned in a rating below, are we watching the same show? These have to be paid reviews, there's no other explanation.

Creative Format, Something Fresh
nalowalls-734059 August 2019
Spade does a brief monologue, generally covering other than the day's politics, as his 3 guest comedians (different every night) comment from their seats onstage. Then, he joins them in the livingroom-like setup, and they address subjects broached by Spade. Finally, he does a parting joke after the last commercial.

David Spade... a comedic wolf in sheeps clothing
meanolddrunk31 July 2019
Where to begin?.... First and foremost, it was so fantastic to see a true comedian/actor not have any political garbage as the main punch line in every joke. i really think most people are over that, to be honest..... we want to be entertained. why else would we pay so much for cable? Mr. Spade has always been comedic gold. just watching the 1st episode i actually laughed out loud.... not a snicker or a snort or a lol with a hashtag. but i really laughed.. out loud. the best part..... nothing political. laughter is the best medicine and a spoon full of politics wont help. funny shows, comedies are what need, not hate filed finger pointing stuff. the 1st episode was great! looking forward to many more. i personally feel David Spade could fill the shoe of Carson or Leno with time. in a nutshell..... just watch it

How does everyone not know about this show?
scrooster2 August 2019
Finally a late night comedy show that is quick, funny, original, quick and funny. Spade and friends never take themselves too seriously. Nothing is sacred but no politics and cool guests. The skits are hilarious - the trivia and background info gleaned from various guests make it even more worthwhile. It's a good thirty minute laugh. Stick around for Spade's close. This show is what late night comedy was intended to be.

Laughing out loud..

I love this new show. All the other late night shows exist by bashing Trump nonstop...don't know what they will do when he is gone. Anyway David is still so funny and the guests are great. The half hour show is like dessert at the end of the day. Gotta watch!

A winner!
santafejack26 September 2019
Having been a long time David Spade fan, it's no surprise I'm loving his new show. But I am surprised how consistently funny both he and his guests are. I keep the hours of a vampire and love comedy, but have become sick of hearing endless jokes about trump. David and guests are providing great laughs on current events and pop culture while also providing a respite from politics and trump. I do hope this show will be renewed.

Comedy Is Not Pretty....
Rsacto21 September 2019
"Lights Out..." is a mile-a-minute, in-your-face, and very funny antidote to the insufferable network late-night placeboes (that contain nothing more than tiresome political diatribes or annoying showcases for their guests' latest movie - not entertaining).

Hip, unpredictable, "Lights Out..." has plenty of rough edges - like any new show. The volatile mix of relatively unknown comedians with comic icons (e.g.: Jay Leno, Dana Carvey, Dennis Miller, Drew Carey, etc.) improving and cracking-wise with lurid and profane gusto, walk all over Spade's daily pop headlines.

With nearly all of the profanity mercifully unbeeped, and blunt sexual innuendos, this is not the pablum-like soporific that main stream late night shows have long since been reduced to. Spade takes plenty of risks with his commentary and that of his nightly guests.

I'm hooked, seen every episode, and look forward to every new bit on new shows.

Spade's hefty resume of comedic experience bodes well for the survival of this very 21st Century iteration of adult, genuinely entertaining late night fodder.

Entertaining!!

Lame gossip show
dschmeding9 October 2019
"Lights out" is another copycat show with an extemely bland host. David Spade tries to act cool but his jokes are mostly not funny as his humor seems to consist primarily of making fun of others... and not even in a creative way. The show starts with him watching something on a laptop and commenting while being filmed on a phone or doing selfies and every single opening joke is unfunny. If you start a show like that, thats a statement.

So you get a show with him coming out, telling jokes about celebrity news and then sitting down with his guests who can join in on more celebrity jokes with their comments. Most of the subjects are utterly unimportant and interesting only to people who watch TMZ and need to stalk celebrities and rummage through their trash. Spade feels forced most of the time, showing off his sneakers and telling us who he would have sex with or had or how he worked on SNL. And the whole show concept feels equally forced with worn out late night tropes and a weird appealing to young audiences with Tweets about celebrities on a large screen like a smartphone.

Best thing about this show is the guests as there are many interesting names from the standup comedy world on and most of the time its them who steal the show. But on the other hand... why does anybody go on a gossip show to trashtalk celebrities. Utterly disposable.

Not a Spade fan but...
badmel6531 July 2019
Yes, I agreed with David when he said he rested on Adam Sandler's laurels. I've never been a David Spade fan and actually thought his last name was not a surname but a suggestion. I took a leap of faith because as we all get older we change and have different perspectives and I'm glad I did. I set my DVR up and watched the show. He had a pretty good cast. I actually laughed and didn't feel sorry for him for the 1st time in my life. I think hes got something going here. I think he showed poise and self respect and had some Great Clips and not the haircut kind according to my voice text. I feel the show is promising and I'm giving him positive thoughts? I'd really like to see him go somewhere without the help of Adam Sandler. I think he has suffered from lack of self confidence most of his life and hopefully this show will give him the backbone and confidence he needs. Keep it up Dave! Shwing!

A natural

David Spade seems to have an innate gift hosting this short but oh so entertaining talk show comedy format. The guest also appear relaxed and ready to just have a few minutes light hearted chat.

I'm hooked!

Cant believe this wasnt renewed
jjpscott0127 May 2021
In a sea of terrible late night shows (excluding the wonderful conan), this one stood out in a great way. No virtue signaling or political garbage here. Just funny people hanging out for a bit having a chat for half an hour. I'm sure if it were on a larger network it wouldve been seen by more people but it really did stand out. It has more of an old school late night feel where you could just watch and escape for a bit. I would love it if another network would pick this up because I would certainly be watching.
