This guy is terrifying.

Wayne Doty unnerved me more than any other in this series, he is definitely one scary guy, the fact that he's safely locked away I imagine would give some comfort to the family and friends of his victim.

He almost had a sense of irritation hearing the son of his first victim, for his actions he needed to man up, take it on the chin, and accept that the guy is obviously going to hate his guys, he didn't, he seemed perturbed by what he beard, that's not the sign of a big man, he's a little man.

I thought the son was a very impressive man, and j agreed with every word he said, good for him.

I also felt sadness for Wayne's mum, she seemed a nice lady, the killers clearly don't think of the damage they do to their own loved ones.

Good documentary.

Matter of fact

Definitely not a guy I would want to find myself in a confrontation with. He's very matter of fact in how he talks about his crimes and the death penalty. Good documentary flow with relevant interviews and follow up.

Season One Review

Whilst in the midst of another Netflix True Crime binge, we landed on "I am a Killer" which, rather than following a single case - introduces us to a person who has been on Death Row and explores the crime and motivations that got them there.

Each episode has the same set up. We meet a Death Row inmate who takes us through their recollection of the crime. Not in every case, but in a lot of them, this is used to introduce us to some element of doubt about the case - not that they are guilty, but for example, their overall capacity for understanding the crime, or whether a murder was premeditated. The documentaries then introduce us to various other parties, either law enforcement, prosecutors, defence lawyers and/or family members - who tell their side of the story. The inmate is then interviewed for a second time, when he gets to react to some of the comments played for him. From there, it's generally left up to us as the audience to decide on whether execution would be justified in this case.

It should be said, most of the killers we meet here aren't actually on Death Row anymore. Their sentences have already been commuted to life imprisonment thanks usually to a law change that requires juries to have been unanimous when applying the death penalty. Though "the worst of the worst" is thrown around a lot about these inmates, they're not - they're selected because there's some aspect of their story that might be considered a mitigating factor

I don't want to spend any time debating the cases again here, instead I'll talk about the quality of the documentary. Generally, they are quite solid, but the formula of them becomes apparent pretty quickly. Occasionally but, to be fair, infrequently I found myself wanting to get the answer to what I thought would have been the obvious question - usually one speaking to motivation for an action, only for it not to be asked.

I'm not sure there is enough here to really recommend that anyone spend time hunting down the show. There's nothing particularly revolutionary and none of the stories are that memorable but I made it through this first season, and will probably move onto the second in due course.

Warning: Spoilers
Doty cannot face not being in control. He first said that he wanted to bring closure to the victim's family and dying would achieve that. As his first victim's son said, he wants Doty to live his life behind bars- that's his wish. Doty is a stinking coward- he needs to man up and serve his time. Loser
