While other episodes this season have had more memorable lines and funnier moments, "The Trial" will probably remain my favorite simply because of the vast number of cameos and immersion-breaking celeb references. We see some familiar faces, as well as a number of other actors with vampire movies in their resumes. There are cinematographic references to horror movies, too, and it all felt very much like a love-letter to fans of the genre. Overall, this episode left me with a warm, fuzzy feeling and a new appreciation for Colin and Guillermo.

Great Potential

I just have a few words about this episode.
The mindblowing creativity and potential that this show has displayed through each episode and exploded magnificently in the last one. Even without the cameos, the references to the popular (vampire) culture, the attention to detail, the high production and writing (props to Jemaine Clement, he's a genius) makes this show an instant classic.
The Trial marked a new high standard.

Another Comedy Classic in the Making

Of course some may reasonably disagree, but for *me*, of the shows that *I'm* watching at the moment, for pure burst-out-loud laughs, the only other show in WWDITS's class is HBO's Veep. And I have been kicking myself since the very first episode, for having not watched the movie this series is based on, when I could've watched it "free" on premium cable...Now of course, it's only available to "rent". But I digress :(
This show is a masterclass in comedic writing, acting, and creativity. And like Veep, it has a top-notch ensemble of actors who are perfectly cast. These talented actors perfectly deliver their lines and go about their "lives" with the perfect dead-pan mundanity, bickering, backbiting, squabbling and pettiness you'd normally expect from four close friends sharing a flat. One could almost describe it as a Vampire version of Seinfeld, perhaps starring "Seinfeldizar the Terrible"? Maybe? No? Ok.
And if that wasn't enough, amazingly, each episode has gotten better, culminating with this past week's episode, "The Trial". The perfection of this episode cannot be overstated. My attention never wandered for one second during the entire episode, because the episode was so jam-packed with cameos, clever references and sight gags, you had to pay attention so you didn't miss anything. And boy, there was one sight gag, that I must've replayed 10 times because it was so completely unexpected, and WTF(?!?)-inducing hilarious!
Anyway, suffice it to say, that I just don't see how they can top this episode, but I sure look forward to them trying.
Already looking forward to season 2.

This has to be hands down the best episode I have seen in a while. I already love this series but this one The Trial was the best. Not only was it funny as always but all of the quest spots was awesome. Like someone said had multi cameos with short lines but was hysterical..from Bautista, pee wee, blade, Tilda and the original vamps from the movie...I loved it. This episode deserved a 10....
Very nice, amazing cameos

Vampires meet the Office

Never saw the movie (What we do in the Shadows), but I've become a big fan of the TV show. Which is strange because I wasn't a fan of "The Office".
The episode "The Trial" was genius, just with the cameos alone.
If you like "The Office" you'll love "What we do in the shadows".

Waititi.
Makeup aside, once an actor of note begins to talk, usually it all comes together in the mind whom they are.
This episode was just fun, and the ominous vampiric representative, and messenger was just like something out of a Mel Brooks flick.
To me, I am just going to assume this series is canon, and just an expansion of the film itself and the world of vampires it deals with. And I love the franchise all the more now. Once this season is out on DVD, because I cant stand blu ray, I must buy it!

An interesting group of guest stars for this episode, although I wish they saved Jemaine Clement for a bigger role. Maybe he'll appear again on the show.
Good episode, but such a cop out to have Colin somehow save the day when it appears he is the least violent of them all.

Oh my god, this episode was such a joy AND a great surprise! I've enjoyed the new series but wow, as a vampire fan I was shot to the moon by the end of this one, couldn't have been much better for me, all aspects of it were fantastic. THANK YOU TAIKA!

Colin drains everyone, including the viewers.
but this episode is gonna be the high water mark that will be hard to beat.
granted other cameos are brilliant. but tilda is it, none of her work had ever made me not impressed, and lol. if only swinton would make one doctor who (movie), it would be worth it --and likely smooth the frontier of female "doctor." she is so fun to watch, which is the point of Doctor Who.

After the death of the old vampire, the group must appear before a trial council. If convicted, they will be done away with, using the sun as the executioner. Of course, we know from the previous episode Guillermo's carelessness killed the old guy, burning him to a crisp. What is funny is the interesting jury. I'm not a fan of current vampire movies, so I'm not the least bit knowledgeable about the characters. But many of them appear in this episode. Guillermo is a really heroic figure, but never gets a chance to benefit from his actions. Once again they must be forced to toe the line and someone, somewhere, needs to show they were not responsible for the death.
The cameos blew my mind

I mean, all of them. It's a fantastic episode too, and wonderfully acted by everyone, but the special treat of the episode were ALL the cameos, and I mean all of them (even the obvious ones who couldn't make it), and the lovely references tied to some of them. I don't care if people think cameos shouldn't be the sole reason for making an episode great, but in my opinion, that's exactly the case here. Fun plot too, just one of the best episodes so far.
And Colin remains to be the funniest of the lot.

Docucomedies/mockumentaries for me are hit (Fear of a Black Hat, Best in Show) or miss (Teacher of the Year) and this show has been on the better side of middling for me humor-wise with the except of the energy vampire, a truly brilliant concept.
This episode is very good and actually made me laugh, which is a good sign. The cameos were to die for and a dash on top of a marvelous episode.

When I first watched this, I thought it was simply a fun episode filled with hilarious guest cameos from the vampire world. But now that I'm up to season 5, there are all sorts of implications that fell out from these events that have been used to create an awesome and hilarious ongoing plotline. Guillermo accidentally killing the Baron is just the start...
Of all the guest vampires, Evan Rachel Wood was the best. I wonder what are the odds that they could get her back for future episodes?
I'm embarrassed to admit that, although I immediately got that Tom and Brad are Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, I entirely blanked on their roles in Interview with The Vampire.
