good movie
jewhitmer2526 August 2021
The cast was good, the acting was great, slightly weak story, improbable, but enjoyable.

It is a decent film for family viewing.

My advice - watch this movie, just don't overthink it.

It's cute!
victoriabearman26 May 2019
Despite the other reviews, it's a cute movie. Hallmark movies aren't for provoking serious thought and everyone that watches these types of movies knows this. We know we are getting a happy ending in some form or another. That's why we watch these movies. There is no risk of being let down. That being said, there is not much chemistry between the wife to be and the lead Male. That part isnt very believable but if it were, we wouldn't want them to not work out, now would we? Anyway, it's a lighthearted movie and the lead female is adorable. It's worth a watch!

Livelier than average Hallmark effort.
rightisright29 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Jocelyn Hudon does a fine job as the female lead, and she has a fun chemistry with Ryan Paevey. As usual the best part of this movie are some of the supporting actors, like Derek McGrath from Doc. And the actress playing the girl that's destined to lose, Kelly Kruger, is incredibly beautiful.

surprising
Kirpianuscus12 June 2022
Surprising is to not can be very critic about this Hallmark film. In my case, the main virtue of it remains the tree house .And the cake. And the realistic story of friendship, preserving the scent of memories from childhood. The second good point is the fine chemistry between Jocelyn Hudon and Ryan Paevey. Not the last, the nice job of charming Derek McGrath. And , sure, the way to reflect the motives of the relation between main characters.

It is a beautiful film for emotion , first.

So, just a very good surprise.

Jocelyn Hudson and Ryan have good chemistry together. They are great together. I really didn't care for Kelly's acting, she has a flat affect, she wasn't into her part.

Light rom/com
Jackbv12316 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This is kind of a cute rom/com with a light air to it.

Unfortunately the dialogue sometimes sounds like it was written by 7th graders. (Sorry for the insult 7th graders.) Seriously? "Like like" is repeated more than once. And "have feelings for ..." There are also repeated statements like "We're only best friends" with the apparent inference that it prohibits romantic feelings.

There is some dancing around "love" vs "in love" in addition to the discussion about best friends. I find it sad that anyone would think that being best friends is not the best foundation for marriage. I hope that the writers intended that as one of the points of the movie.

I expected this movie to be predictable down to the smallest detail, but there were actually some surprises. The biggest is that Kimberly is actually nice. She is far more honest and reasonable than Jess. Jess actually has several issues that make it hard to like her, not the least of which is that at times she doesn't act much better than a 7th grader. (Really, I don't dislike 7th graders.)

Pavey and Hudon have chemistry which really isn't there with Kruger, but it isn't supposed to be.

Good leads but story slow
alawrence-2687426 May 2019
The leads were good but the story was slow. The main male and female leads were great. The bride's friends were too stereotypical but you certainly don't like them which was the intent

4 stars is me being generous.
Whitneywest104 January 2022
Here's the thing.. I liked Jess and Ted and I love the actors that portrayed them. But this story/script would have been of more use to me if I set it on fire to light kindling in my fireplace. Real talk. I should have known when I paused it an hour in and got distracted by TikTok and YouTube for an entire hour before I remembered I was watching this. True story. I know Hallmark's formula is to wait until the last moment and 99% of the time I'm totally on board with that. But this was unacceptable. I didn't watch a romance. I watched a friendship, a sham of something that was supposed to resemble a relationship, then a 10 second flash forward clip of what we should have been watching for at least the last 30 minutes of runtime, if not the last hour of runtime. This movie is an absolute joke. And I love for their to be some actual conflict in Hallmark movies but this movie overplayed its hand. Fire whoever wrote it. Ugh. I should've hard passed on this one. Regrets.

We Liked It
Nancy377028 May 2019
My husband and I watch nearly every Hallmark movie and some are definitely better than others. We thought this one was refreshing mainly due to the acting of Jocelyn Hudon. She played her part very well and it was nice to see a relatively new face. We hope she becomes one of the regulars.

Pretty Good...
JazzCat6413 July 2022
I believe someone saying that Jess stating over and over that she had no feelings is the typical lazy writing from hallmark writers. I don't think you can mix it up with these two because their acting range was limited at this time. I believe Jocelyn whom i have started to watch more and more is growing as an actress. Her recent performances have been much better so i believe she is starting to feel comfortable leading a movie.

Stop saying like like! Castle looks like a prison.
hallmarkmov25 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Maybe it's the lack of loud music, but this movie moved very slowly. The use of like like was sooooo annoying! These people are pretty awful. You can't go pick up your own grandma? Why are they getting married so fast? Why didn't he tell his "BFF" he was dating someone? What kind of best friend is that? The bride is constantly talking to her ex and is angry when her fiancé is talking with his friend? The groom can't pick up his own tux? This castle looks like a prison. Seniors have to come and set up your wedding? These people look rich enough to hire actual workers instead of getting what seems to be a free wedding. Who do they think planned the wedding exactly if they fired their free wedding planner? I have no idea where this movie is going but know I won't watch it again.

Just fun!
Jazzie-too24 August 2019
I liked all the characters--the three leads, in particular, but also the older adults that added to the story. Surprising to see so many disappointed reviews. This is Hallmark Movies! They assure me that romance & love is going to win. And the actors were good, the chemistry was right where it needed to be, and it was just nice! I like the "feel good" it gave me!

Wow! A Hallmark movie where I didn't hate the two leads.
thomford-7801811 September 2023
Hallmark. What are you doing? You're supposed to be 100% cringe 100% of the time. And yet here I am, having just watched one of your movies without the taste of bile in my mouth. Not only did I not hate the leads in this movie - I actually liked them! Well, I liked the female lead, anyway - the male lead was kinda just okay.

The main characters of this movie are Jess and Ted. Ted, overall, is just sort of there throughout most of this movie. He's a nice guy, and I don't openly despise him, which is a far cry from most of the male leads in Hallmark movies these days - don't get me started on "Pervert Max" in "I Do, I Do, I Do." He is, admittedly, kind of an idiot, wanting to marry a girl he's been dating for all of five minutes, but at least he doesn't gaslight or degrade the female lead.

Jess is the most likable Hallmark heroine I've seen in a long time. She's quirky, funny, and all around sympathetic. She DOES over implement the juvenile phrase "LIKE like" far too much, but if that's the worst thing I can say about a character in one of these movies (where the female lead if often desperately in love with whiney, self-absorbed, entitled man-babies), then she's doing something right. The actress, Jocelyn Hudson, does a great job of portraying the character as sweet, a little goofy, but overall very likable.

Without getting into spoilers, the movie DOES wrap up in a sort of unsatisfying way, mostly because it seems rushed.

Overall, for the first time ever, I can say about a Hallmark movie, "I didn't hate it."

From Friend to Fiancé
studioAT11 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This is a nice but very slight Hallmark film.

It's engaging enough, but Jess saying over and over that she has no feelings for Ted solidly for 77 mins does grate a little.

If you're in the right mood though this remains nice enough Hallmark fare.

Yes, we watch Hallmark movies 'cause we like them
0rion96 June 2019
This one was terrible and truly unbelievable. How, oh how, can two of the bestest of best friends be such best friends that one can be in a relationship long enough to propose - while the other has no clue what's going on? No idea! What? No. That was just one of the many puzzling choices that went into this movie. Besides a major lack of chemistry and intimacy that would be between two of the bestest of friends who each secretly loved the other. There are better, so, take a pass on this one.

From Friend to Fiancé
allmoviesfan12 May 2023
Ryan Paevey is a very familiar Hallmark face (a veteran?), and one of the better actors that the network has in it's ever-expanding stable of stars. Jocelyn Hudon is one of the up-and-coming Hallmark stars, a kind of new generation after the likes of Lacey Chabert, Cindy Busby, Nicki DeLoach and company, and very easy on the eye.

The two are great in 'From Friend to Fiancé' which tells the story of Jess (Hudon), a wedding planner extraordinaire, who is called upon to plan her best friend Ted's wedding. It turns out that Ted (Paevey) is marrying the high school mean girl, played by Kelly Kruger. It turns out that Jess might have feelings for Ted, which complicates the situation. For a change, the "other woman" was actually not mean and quite relatable: definitely not the caricature that these roles seem to turn out to be. Special mention to Derek McGrath, who was great. Good chemistry between Paevey and Hudon.

A different approach to the standard Hallmark film, and enjoyable.

So wrong
jcdyspcf16 April 2022
This is the worst Hallmark movie I have ever seen. So wrong in so many levels. She's annoying and trying to steal the groom. Stupid storyline. Everything in this movie with no respect and no boundaries.

A familiar trope, but Hallmark mixes it up a bit (!)
rebekahrox27 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I am amazed by the poor reviews this one has gotten so far! I thought this was one of the better Hallmarks. The lead actress, though not super-great was more than adequate. And Ryan Paevey is a big favorite with me. This also had some surprising elements to it that moved it out of the usual very predictable Hallmark template. First of all the rival of our heroine, Jess, who is set to marry Jess' best friend, Ted, was a high school mean-girl. As any Hallmark aficionado will predict, she will show her true colors, and prove herself to be the fiance from hell. Our heroine will rescue her buddy from her evil clutches at the last minute and win his love for herself. But no! She has actually changed and is now really nice, if a little suspicious of Jess. Her instincts were correct. Jess has decided she is in love with Ted. We are teased a few times that mean Kimberley is going to emerge from her clever phony facade. But No! It is actually Jess's stupid antics and non-stop lying to herself and others, that show Kimberley in a favorable and sympathetic light. It was getting to be the last 15 minutes of the movie, and I was cudgeling my brain as to how the writer was going to resolve this. It was shaping up to be another My Best Friend's Wedding, which I knew was impossible because, come on, Its HALLMARK! They managed it thanks to Kimberley, who, in a faster that the speed of light last minute epiphany realized that she was just marrying Ted to prove that she wasn't a mean girl anymore, and Ted realized that he wanted to marry Kimberley to prove he wasn't the fat nerd anymore. It was actually pretty neatly done. The other things I liked were the voice over narration at the beginning and the end, Ted's granny, Jess' elderly adviser, and the rest of the secondary characters. So Kudos, Hallmark, try to step outside the box more often!

Poor acting and writing
texasteacher9826 May 2019
I love Hallmark movies. I don't mind the predictable plot lines. The acting can sometimes be mediocre, but this movie takes the cake. The script sounds like it came from a high school theater class, and the actors deliver the lines they also came from high school theater. The lead male character has done other movies and was not this bad. Unfortunately, he didn't have much to work with.

I couldn't even handle finishing this movie. Maybe it got better towards the end.

Nice cast and surprisingly good story
phd_travel14 June 2019
Sometimes Hallmark casts actors that are well paired looks wise but here they got it right. Jocelyn Hudon and Ryan Paevey look good together. She is pretty and has a Rachel Bilson like charm.

The story is quite watchable and avoids cliches in the way things unfold and how the characters behave and talk especially the mean girl. This is hard to do in Hallmark romances which often go over familiar territory. A lot of other romances in Hallmark have been a little predictable but this one you want to see how things unfold.

It's a more realistic version of My Best Friends Wedding with a well written ending.

Worth watching.

Jocelyn made it watchable for me
MIssM199 July 2019
I don't like the June Weddings theme and everything related to it, but decided to give this a chance because Jocelyn Hudon is a new face and we'll get to see her soon in the new When Calls the Heart spin off, so...

I didn't love this exactly, it was a different plot. I loved the idea that the main characters were best friends, but some things are just not believable. How did he get engaged and she didn't even know he was dating? Seriously... too much soap opera for me. Kimberly's minions? Come on, Hallmark you can do better.

I personally really liked Jocelyn. I'm getting tired of the same 2 or 3 actresses having ONE movie PER SEASON (and by season I mean, Christmas, June Weddings, Summer, Valentine's etc. Jen Lilley, Danica and Lacey, i'm looking at you). I didn't hate Ryan Paevey but his character was "meh", he was not interesting, at all.

I did get me in one part. The fact that she was willing to let him go... it killed me. And there were some meme worthy times too.

So, I don't get why the reviews are SO negative. This is still Hallmark, you can expect believable and trashy scripts, but it wasn't neither that bad of some award-winning performances.

Not Ryan Paevey's best movie
ckkc-2979717 August 2020
I loved Ryan Paevey in Marrying Mr Darcy and some of his other movies but this one was not one of his better ones. The acting from all the characters was poorly executed. I was also SHOCKED to find out there were a few scenes with profanity!! When did Hallmark movies start having profanity?? The words were blanked out but it was still obvious the character said it. As mentioned in other comments, there was no chemistry between Ryan Peavy's character and his character's fiance.

This was definitely not one of Hallmark's better movies.

Great acting and believable script
ronalamont-9147230 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I, too, am surprised this film got some really bad reviews. I thought it was well acted and it kept me guessing as to the outcome in spite of the spoiler title!

I really appreciated that the older actors at the nursing home were portrayed so well as normal people. I get so fed up when they are made to look stupid or unable to DO anything. I loved that she had a good friend in the guy on the scooter as well as her friend her own age.

I would have liked them to have taken advantage of the venue and just got married right then instead. It looked like she had a very simple wedding after having 'gone to town' on everyone else's. Shame really...she wanted to marry in that castle too and she'd called in so many favors that day.

Not the best
kkcarr-033882 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed Ryan Paevey. I especially enjoyed him in Unleashing Mr. Darcy. I didn't enjoy as much in this movie. The movie itself was okay but I really did Not like the ending. At the end, I expected a little more romance between the two best friends. I needed more than 30 seconds of, "after all this time you were really the one."
