Children of the Cornball
zeppo-215 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Is very, very low budget but not quite as bad as my fellow reviewer would have it. For thirty minutes, it passes the time well enough. The acting is somewhat basic and I think the farmhands are exactly that and not actors. The suspense of the man left by his attackers in the field of corn, that is soon going to mowed down by a combine harvester, is over in the first ten minutes when the man turns up at the farm. One of his attackers is still looking for him when the harvesting begins in the field, caught up in this, he tries and fails to escape. A soon to be forgotten film but probably of more interest to people who want to view how corn harvesting was done in the old days.

Quirky short

STRANGE HARVEST is an odd and quirky short amateur effort from Sussex, where a low rent crime story plays out in a barn and cornfield: two criminals dump a body in the crop, only to return the next day when one of them realises it's harvest time and they'll be discovered. It's an oddball effort with stilted acting and cheap and cheerful production values, but it has a little charm thanks to the era and naturalised surroundings.

A lot of corn

Warning: Spoilers
Everything about this short betrays a minuscule budget. A man is robbed of his car and left for dead in a cornfield. One of the robbers takes off with the car leaving the other behind. In the morning the victim awakes and goes to the farm However for no very good reason the crook stays in the cornfield until it is scythed down by a combine harvester. There is a fight after which he is caught.Pretty abysmal.

Worth watching for history.

This must have been one of those quota quickies we hear about as the plot and action is pretty basic. But oh my how glorious life was back then in rural West Sussex when corn grew four feet tall and the sun shone endlessly and village copper pedalled along empty lanes. It's a visual Mrs Dales's Diary!

Quirker

Obviously made on the cheap but quite delightful in its production. No idea who was in it but it was 30 mins of quick entertainment that was a delight to see. Great to see the English countryside.
