During Russell T Davies’ first time in charge of BBC behemoth Doctor Who, one of its regular writers often wrote some of its more memorable and popular stories.
Scottish writer, Steven Moffat, had made a sizable name for himself in the U.K. with television shows such as Press Gang and Coupling, and would bring new terrors to young Whovians in the form of Gask Mask Zombies and the Weeping Angels. When Davies came to leave the show, Moffat was the natural choice to replace him.

Fans of Outlander know that season 7 ended with a cliffhanger before it took its midseason break. The first seven episodes made their debut in the summer of 2023, but the second half of season 7 most likely won’t pick up until early 2024. With the ongoing writer’s strike, viewers are left wondering what to watch during both this midseason droughtlander and an overall lack of new content.
In the meantime, here are seven shows to check out for Outlander fans.
‘The Time Traveler’s Wife’
A time-traveling romance centered around Clare Abshire, played by Rose Leslie, and her husband Henry DeTamble, played by Theo James. Kit Harington's family with wife Rose Leslie has grown by one with their newest little addition. On July 3, a rep for the couple, who tied the knot in a romantic Scottish ceremony in 2018, confirmed to Popsugar that they welcomed their second child, a baby girl, who now joins their son that arrived in 2021.
Harington broke the news about his growing family on a Feb. 3 episode of "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," sharing that his first child is "about to get the shock of his life." And though he's been keen on keeping his oldest out of the public eye, the dad of two and "Game of Thrones" alum has shared some of his parenting concerns previously.
Just like Jon Snow worried about winter coming for eight straight seasons of the HBO staple, Harington has expressed his concern about imminent existentially threatening weather-related events, too - namely, climate change...

Rose Leslie, 36, and Kit Harington, 36, have welcomed their second child, a daughter, two years after the birth of their firstborn, a son.
Neither of the children’s names have been disclosed.
The couple’s preference to keep their children’s identities and lives private is no surprise as they dated privately for nearly four years before they made their red carpet debut in 2016 as an official couple. Within two years of the debut, the Game of Thrones couple announced their engagement with a local newspaper in their hometown and exchanged vows in Scotland.
In a 2017 interview with The Guardian, Harington said he doesn’t believe in talking about relationships with the media.

“Insecure” is now officially available to stream on Netflix, the first HBO original to launch on the streamer under a new licensing deal with Warner Bros. Discovery.
It was first reported on June 20 that Wbd was in talks to license some of their original shows to Netflix. In addition, the streamer has confirmed that “Band of Brothers,” “The Pacific,” “Six Feet Under,” and “Ballers” will be coming to the service at a later date. “True Blood,” which also currently streams on Hulu, will be available to Netflix subscribers outside the U.S. All of the shows remain available to stream on Max (formerly HBO Max) as well.

In a turnaround for the streaming wars, Warner Bros. Discovery is in negotiations to license a package of library HBO titles to Netflix.
If a deal were to go through, it would cement the sea-change in content distribution strategy afoot at Warner Bros. Discovery under the David Zaslav regime. HBO has licensed library content in the past — a deal with Netflix would not be groundbreaking per se, but it is notable in the era of pitched competition among the largest media companies to build direct-to-consumer streaming platforms. Netflix, the upstart outsider from Los Gatos, has been the pace car for television’s transition over the past decade.
Among the titles under discussion are the Issa Rae comedy “Insecure.” The show premiered on HBO in 2016 and ran for five seasons until 2021. The deal is believed to be non-exclusive to Netflix, meaning that the titles would still be available on Max, Warner Bros.

Eliza Skinner had no idea that her Disney+ series Earth to Ned would be permanently taken off the platform until a text on the show’s writer group chat in mid-May shared an article about Disney removing more than 70 films and series from its streaming services that month. Among the disappearing titles was the comedic talk show — which launched in 2020 with Skinner as head writer — centering on an alien welcoming celebrities to his spaceship.
Due to its classification as a streaming variety series, Skinner says the writers and performers weren’t receiving residuals, although the show’s team had heard rumors blaming Disney’s tax bill. But while her loss isn’t a financial one, Earth to Ned can no longer serve as a calling card to help land future gigs for Skinner, who also doesn’t own a physical copy of the show.

Disney is set to take a $1.5 billion write-down during the fiscal third quarter after the entertainment giant removed more than 30 shows off of Disney+ and Hulu last month in an effort to bring down costs, according to a Friday filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
On May 26, Disney pulled shows like The World According to Jeff Goldblum, Y: The Last Man, The Mighty Ducks, Turner & Hooch, Willow, Maggie, Dollface and the 2022 Cheaper By the Dozen off of its streaming services. During the company’s May earnings call, Disney CFO Christine McCarthy said the company expected to take on upwards of $1.8 billion in impairment charges as a result of removing the content.
Friday’s SEC filing said Disney is “continuing its review” and is expecting to remove additional produced content from its streaming services during the third quarter, with those removals expected to incur an additional $400 million write-down.

Nearing the one year anniversary of Discovery and AT&T’s WarnerMedia merger, four Democrats in Congress are calling for the Department of Justice to reassess the deal.
In a letter to the Justice Department’s top enforcers, the lawmakers say that the merger has enabled Warner Bros. Discovery to “adopt potentially anticompetitive practices” that prompted numerous layoffs and reduced programming options for consumers. They allege that “current competition in the media and entertainment industry is inadequate.”
Months before the $43 billion deal was blessed, 30 members of Congress warned the agency in a letter in Dec. 2021 that the resulting competition vacuum would harm workers and consumers. Among the concerns they advanced was that it could dampen “economic opportunity for workers” on top of diverse programming, which became a common criticism after the company canned its $90 million HBO Max film Batgirl, the first DC movie led by a Latina, for a tax write-off.

Ahead of the one-year anniversary of the Warner Bros. Discovery merger, four Democratic lawmakers have called on the Department of Justice to investigate the company.
A letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland and Assistant Attorney General Johanthan Kanter from Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts), Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-Texas), Rep. David Cicilline (D-Rhode Island) and Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Washington) claims that the merger has appeared to have enabled the company to “adopt potentially anticompetitive practices that reduce consumer choice and harm workers in affected labor markets.”

German director Robert Schwentke’s directorial career has swung in a few directions; he has made Hollywood actioners like Flightplan with Jodie Foster, the adaptation of The Time Traveler’s Wife and a film that almost defines the idea of a personal movie, based on his own diagnosis with testicular cancer. He has both written and directed Seneca – On the Creation of Earthquakes, an eccentric competition choice, even by the inclusive standards of the Berlinale – starring John Malkovich as the eponymous Stoic philosopher. Over two hours, he delivers what is largely a monologue: as a performance, it has at least the strength of dogged determination. As a film, however, Seneca is almost unendurable.
Shot in and around an open colonnaded pavilion constructed in the Moroccan desert, Seneca draws on Roman historian Tacitus’ account of the great thinker’s reluctant suicide in Ad 65. A celebrated public figure, Seneca is also on...

There is one thing to be said for Seneca — On the Creation of Earthquakes, which has its world premiere in Berlin this week. It may be the first major film set in ancient Rome in a couple of decades. But those who are hoping for a vivid adventure like Gladiator or Spartacus or even a campy hoot like Quo Vadis will be sorely disappointed by this bizarre effort to create a historical fantasia. John Malkovich has a rare starring role and acquits himself solidly enough. But it is harder to understand what motivated director Robert Schwentke, who has some successful films to his credit (The Time Traveler’s Wife, Red, the Divergent series) but adds no luster to his resume with this head-scratcher.
Schwentke was born in Germany but has made most of his films in Hollywood. This German-financed effort was filmed primarily in Morocco and showcases a cast from all over the world,...

Few directors have had as eclectic a career as Robert Schwentke. His 2002 German-language debut Tattoo — a slick Se7en-style serial-killer thriller — got the attention of Hollywood, and he initially appeared to be on the classic studio-director track, helming the Jodie Foster-starrer Flightplan, the all-star action hit Red and its sequel, and, most recently, the G.I. Joe movie Snake Eyes with Henry Golding and Andrew Koji.
But even from the start, Schwentke was a difficult director to pigeonhole. Best known for his action thrillers, he also took time to direct the romantic sci-fi drama The Time Traveler’s Wife with Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams, the supernatural comic-book adaptation R.I.P.D. with Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges, and two films in the Divergent YA sci-fi franchise with Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort.
He has also continued to make smaller, more personal, German movies. The Family Jewels, his 2003 follow-up to Tattoo, is...

Only 10 episodes of The Gordita Chronicles were produced before HBO Max canceled the comedy last summer amid a pullback on live-action kids and family programming. But at least creator Claudia Forestieri felt good knowing that new viewers could still find the show on the streamer.
“I got several DMs from people who saw it in-flight on American Airlines, where a few episodes are still available, and they ended up finishing the season on HBO Max,” Forestieri told Deadline.
But the consolation prize of keeping the show on the platform was short-lived: less than five months after The Gordita Chronicles was canceled, all 10 episodes were removed as part of a library purge that impacted dozens of programs on HBO Max.
At least Forestieri wasn’t alone in getting the boot. In the last few months, scores of shows have been yanked from various platforms, including Westworld, Raised By Wolves, The Time Traveler’s Wife,...

Warning: contains spoilers for Doctor Who.
It’s Valentine’s Day, or thereabouts, so there’s romance flipping everywhere. We’re going to look at romance in Doctor Who as interpreted by me, a man whose wife paused tactfully for a few seconds when I told her I was writing this.
Doctor Who very rarely indulges in romance – most of the wooing happens in the theme music – but its lead is cut from similar cloth to one of literature’s most famous Romantic characters. Colin Baker reportedly hoped his Sixth Doctor would be a Mr Darcy figure, initially appearing unlikeable but softening as time went on.
This is the kind of romantic figure the Doctor most often embodies: someone who attempts to rectify mistakes (often their own) to come good at the end of the story. Mostly though this is in terms of saving planets rather than marrying Lizzy Bennet.

The Nevers is coming to Tubi today. Viewers will see all 12 episodes of the first season air in rotation on the streaming service after their initial airing. Unfortunately, they aren't available on-demand so one has to watch them "live". An ad-supported streaming service, Tubi has made a deal to also stream all seasons of cancelled HBO shows like Westworld, Raised by Wolves, and The Time Traveler’s Wife.
Production on The Nevers was shut down several times due to the pandemic. The historical sci-fi series debuted on HBO in April 2021 and aired for six episodes. The remaining six episodes were expected to be released in 2022 but never materialized. HBO cancelled the series in December and the search to find a new home to air the series began.

Warner Bros. Discovery has decided to keep Discovery+ as a standalone streaming offering and to proceed with launching the yet-to-be-named combined product of Discovery+ and HBO Max, Variety has confirmed.
According to a Wednesday report in the Wall Street Journal, “Instead of combining HBO Max and Discovery+ in their entirety, the new platform will feature HBO Max content and most Discovery+ content, with Discovery+ remaining available as a stand-alone option, some of the people said.”
An individual with knowledge of the situation tells Variety that Wbd’s plan for the upcoming platform that will include both HBO Max and Discovery+ remains “unchanged,” and, additionally, the company has decided to keep the lower-priced offering of Discovery+ in the U.S.
Per the WSJ’s sources, “the decision to keep Discovery+ is part of an effort to avoid risking losing a significant chunk of the app’s 20 million subscribers who might not...

Over the past few months, we’ve seen an increasing number of streaming companies remove original content from their services. Deadline reports that Paramount+ is the latest service to remove titles from their platform, which includes Jordan Peele’s reboot of The Twilight Zone.

If you're upset that shows like "Westworld," "The Nevers," "FBoy Island," and more have been pulled from HBO Max in the aftermath of the Warner Bros.-Discovery merger, there's good news. The titles will be available as Fast content - free ad-supported linear streaming TV.

Warner Bros Discovery has finally nailed down plans to go the Fast route. Last year — in between an intense bout of cancellations and titles being pulled from their streaming home on HBO Max — the company announced plans to explore a free ad-supported television option (Fast). During the company's third-quarter earnings call, Warner Bros. Discovery chief David Zaslav made a point of saying that there's "a huge amount of content that's not even on [HBO Max/Discovery+] that's sitting with us that hasn't been put to monetize in the marketplace." In the spirit of cashing in, a new plan has been enacted. Over the next few months, 14 Warner Bros. branded Fast channels will arrive on Roku and Tubi.

It looks like pulling shows from streaming services is not exclusive to HBO Max.
According to Deadline, Starz has pulled Dangerous Liaisons, Becoming Elizabeth, and Step Up from its streaming platform.
All three shows have been canceled in recent months, but removing completed episodes from the place they called home is a big surprise.
It’s unclear whether any of the shows will materialize on another platform down the line, but for now, we should probably expect similar announcements from other streaming services.

At the time, there were questions about where the shows would end up, and more recently, we learned that Warner Bros. Discovery plans to license them to ad-supported streaming services.

It comes after HBO Max pulled series such as Westworld, The Nevers, Raised By Wolves, The Time Traveler’s Wife as well as a slew of reality shows including FBoy Island and a raft of animated titles from its service last year.
Over the weekend, HBO Max also pulled a number of episodes of the original Looney Tunes, including seasons 16 to 31, as well as three seasons of The Flintstones. These shows were removed after their licenses expired.

Berlin-based sales company Picture Tree Intl. has boarded Robert Schwentke’s historical drama “Seneca – On the Creation of Earthquakes,” which has its world premiere in the Berlinale Special Gala section of the Berlin Film Festival. Westworld, once considered a prized piece of HBO’s portfolio, has become the poster child for how the David Zaslav-run Warner Bros. Discovery is trying to get its cash flowing again. The quasi-anthology series from Lisa Joy and Jonah Nolan is being removed from HBO Max as sources say that Warner Bros. Discovery execs are seeking new ways to monetize the drama, whose fourth and now final season clocked in north of 160 million.
The company said Dec. 14 that a number of canceled HBO and HBO Max programs will be packaged in a new bundle to be sold to third-party streaming services that are free and ad-supported. Those shows include Westworld and The Nevers, as well as FBoy Island, Legendary, The Time Traveler’s Wife and Raised by Wolves.
Meanwhile, a number of other shows will come off the HBO Max platform as Wbd looks for license partnerships.

Spoiler Alert: This post contains plot details for the Season 2 finale of HBO Max’s The Sex Lives of College Girls.
Another year has come and gone at Essex College. Season 2 of The Sex Lives of College Girls ended on a tumultuous note Thursday, as Leighton, Kimberly, Bela and Whitney finished up their first year at the elite private university.

“I mean, she has a lot going,” Rapp told Deadline during a recent interview ahead of the finale. Episode 8 ends with Leighton receiving a text from Alicia asking if they can reconnect after the pair broke things off in Season 1 because...
