Powerful and uncomfortable
klcnoble7 August 2019
This isn't fast paced because emotional abuse isn't fast paced. It's subtle and slow and uncomfortable. Although some of the camera work is a bit jerky, I thought this was a very accurate depiction of what emotional abuse can be like.

Despite Other Reviews Worth A Watch
IanIndependent22 August 2019
I decided to give this a go because I was at one of those losses about what to watch. It proved an interesting way to spend an hour. It seemed very true to life because of the way it was hot, the close focus on the characters and the performances by all involved. This real life depiction lead to a not over dramatic ending and has prompted some to say it is boring. It's not. However, It is definitely not a film for not for those who want a lot of physical action, a twisted turning narrative or soap style dramatics but it is for those who want to watch a portrait of a true to life toxic relationship

Emotionally gripping...not for Fast and Furious fans
safenoe3 November 2020
The acting in this episode was superb, with layers of an emotionally captive relationship being unpeeled. We're left wondering what happens at the end. Will it get physically violent? The filming locations really captured England without the James Bond glitz, but not veering towards Eastenders.

Required viewing for women.
pfne23 March 2021
A forensicly.closenup view of a woman in an abusive relationship. Men out there may watch this and wonder why women should watch this as they don't see "Adam" as doing nothing wrong, or they even agree with him. But this is a very realistic portrayal of an emotionally abusive and coercive relationship. If any woman out there recognise themselves or their partner in this show, they need to really think about their position and keep a look out for similar red flags.

The "me too crew are having a ball. While abuse in any form is a serous subject , this is just Boring and depressing. the actors barely managed.

Painful
richard-1070930 July 2019
A slow and claustrophobic show where not much happens very slowly. The camera doesn't stop moving at all, making watching nauseating. If you like watching paint dry whilst feeling seasick, this is the show for you.

Filmed on a waltzer

Had to turn off. Cameras moving all over the place. I'm sure this was a good piece of drama but felt nauseous watching. Why do they do this? Is it trendy?

Poor drama

Warning: Spoilers
I love indie slow dramas but this was awful. The acting was awful , vicky McClure is not a good actress. She was only good in Shane meadows stuff as he makes anyone good. She is unlikeable, moody and dull and plays the same as usual. The dialogue is poor and seems scripted to me. We never see why their relationship is like it is and she does not help herself. I feel like it is So one sided to make out like the man is bad when she is not the nicest of persons either, he obviously has deep problems and even admits it at the end. I would not recommend this series I turned it off after trying to watch the next one. Poor

Dull, slow, poorly scripted and shockingly bad camera work
deanbowkett29 August 2019
I generally quite like Vicky Mclure but having been involved in domestic violence this show was so bad. The script was laboured, the acting stilted but it was the non-stop moving camera work that made this about as appealing as ride a rollercoaster after a large plate of fish and chips followed by sticky toffee pudding and cream.
