That's a strong start.

Edmund Tolleson is admitted to a Psychiatric care facility after committing several brutal killings. That same hospital is joined by Nurse Ratched, a forceful, cool individual, who will stop at nothing to get a job there.

Sarah Paulson is brilliant, she is ice cool, sinister, but commanding. When she is on screen, you watch.

It's a brutal start, I get the references to AHS, but it's less obvious, more subtle.

The true success here for me, was the production, it is a lavish drama, it looks exquisite, the colour are so bright and vivid, deliberately striking.

I get why so many people are hooked, a thoroughly enjoyable start, 8/10.

A decent enough start

As someone who absolutely adores the near perfection that is One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, I was skeptical if Ratched but also willing to look at it for it's own artistic merit. That being said, I think the pilot is just... fine. The opening scene is very good at ramping up the tension and the whole episode is shot beautifully but I find the soundtrack is trying just a little too hard and the writing feels a little ham fisted and undercooked at times. I also was not a fan of the twist but that's more personal preference than a real critique. Sarah Paulson is wonderful and I will continue to view and most probably enjoy the show but it needs to do a little more to set itself apart because, as of right now, it feels like Ryan Murphy's typical fair. I'm giving 'Pilot' a 7/10

Perfect creep factor

This has such a good creep factor; Sarah Paulson owns this role. The cinematography is breathtaking, the use of colors and backlighting are stunning. Storyline is a bit weird, but not unexpected, and definitely interesting.

So good!

I couldn't really find ANYproblems with this Pilot. The costume and production design was superb, and acting from everyone (especially Sarah Paulson) was fantastic. I can't wait to watch the rest.

Ryan Murphy does it again.

4 out of 5 stars.

Great first episode. A disturbing and thrilling opening scene. Sarah Paulson delivers a suspenseful and disturbing character. The direction is fun. From music. Writing. And acting.

May be a spoiler if you haven't seen 'one flew over

The pallet , costuming , sets and the acting are are enough lure me and the story enough to keep me watching . The show is simply lovely even though it's horror, I think . I am invested in the characters and appreciate the nod to the looming events in 'One Flew Over.. ' for example the specifically Jack Nicholson-esque expression of our 'villain'. I care about Nurse Ratchet and would want to know what her story is even if it had nothing to do with the dreaded events looming in her future. What drives these characters who are an appropriately eclectic mix: I wasn't expecting much but wanted to settle in visually for a change , this delivers with such detail and beauty. I am all in.

A bit of a let down
abirzenith15 March 2023
One look at the casting list and the potential of the show becomes obvious. However, it turned out to be a house of cards. The representation of the era is made of paper walls and often falls apart.

The pacing is also all over the place and fails to give you a sense of synchronization and lacks the feeling of being connected to the legendary ''One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest'. If anything, the cinematic of the TV Series feels more like a cheap replica of 'The Shining'

The back of this TV Series is still in place due to the individual performance of Sarah Paulson, Finn Wittrock, and Judy Davis. So if you can get past all the mentioned flaws with the show and are not someone who prefers thematic consistency with the source material then you might still be able to stomach this show.

In conclusion, a forced mishmash of style and flare that does not honor the source material, neither the book nor the Movie.

What IS This ???

I Find Myself Pausing And Re-Playing And Looking And Thinking About Just How Truly Unique This Pilot Is. I Feel As Though I Am On One Of Those Big Roller-Coaster Rides In The Middle Of A Disney-Like Landscape And The Coaster Is Moving Up To A Great Height....Ken Kesey Would Have Approved.

Pretty decent episode ant nice start of new TV series. I was happy that the action started from the first episode which involves observer from first minutes. I like idea so far, it had "American Horror story"(which I love) vibes, main actress was amazing, she delivered as best as she could. Definitely worth to watch.

Disappointing
Just-A-Girl-1420 September 2020
I wanted to like this show but I found the episode to be mostly boring. Nothing about it felt realistic in any way, the characters are unlikable, stiff and creepy (and not in a good way). Maybe it gets better but I don't think I'm going to give it another chance. There was nothing about it that kept my attention or interest.

So far.... It's...
moov_e_c_er18 June 2022
I tried watching this a few times. Amazing actors but so far I don't get it. It's so slow and extremely boring. The styling pastels and colored halls and rooms are so far very boring. It would make more sense if things turned red with rage, but green? Is that supposed to mean jealousy? First time around I didn't finish the episode. This time I'm still struggling through... I will review when I get more episodes in.
