Between shows like “Halston,” “The New Look,” “The Collection,” and Ridley Scott’s movie “House Of Gucci,” stories about the fashion empire seem to be on the neverending rise. And in the era of Peak TV—which hasn’t really subsided despite reports to the contrary—it seems like almost anyone is worthy of their own mini-series. To that end, one of the most famous icons of modern fashion, eccentric German designer Karl Lagerfeld, is getting the biopic treatment, or rather, origin story in the new Hulu mini-series, “Becoming Karl Lagerfeld.”

When you have had a career as distinguished, and successful as that of Ewan McGregor, to claim a part in the ‘role of a lifetime’ carries some weight, but having seen him in action in Paramount+’s new drama series A Gentleman in Moscow, it’s easy to see why.
To mark the launch of the show, which kickstarts on March 29 on the platform, we had the pleasure in speaking to McGregor alongside his wife and screen partner Mary Elizabeth Winstead, as they talk about the great fun they had on the project, and how they went about balancing their work life with their home life.

Intimacy coordinators, basically delicate choreographers for sex scenes, are not new to Hollywood productions. But this may be a first.
For the Paramount+ with Showtime limited series “A Gentleman in Moscow,” in which Ewan McGregor plays a Russian aristocrat banished to a bleak hotel room during the early days of the Soviet Union, the actor told Britain’s Radio Times that the production still used an intimacy coordinator for one romantic sequence, even though his scene partner was Mary Elizabeth Winstead, his wife of two years.
“We did have an intimacy coordinator!” McGregor said, when it was suggested he probably didn’t need one. “It’s still necessary, because it’s also about the crew, and it’s odd to be naked in front of people, it’s odd to be intimate in front of the camera. If you were doing a dance scene, you’d have a choreographer. It...

Christine Vachon doesn’t mess around. She is a film professor, best-selling film book author, wife, mother of a film marketing professional, and most of all, producer of independent films. They’re often directed by her close friend and fellow Brown alumnus Todd Haynes. Plot: Acclaimed writer Truman Capote surrounded himself with a coterie of society’s most elite women – rich, glamorous socialites who defined a bygone era of high society New York – whom he nicknamed “the swans.” Enchanted and captivated by these doyennes, Capote ingratiated himself into their lives, befriending them and becoming their confidante, only to ultimately betray them by writing a thinly veiled fictionalization of their lives, exposing their most intimate secrets. When an excerpt from the book, Answered Prayers, Capote’s planned magnum opus, was published in Esquire, it effectively destroyed his relationship with his swans, banished him from the high society he so loved and sent him into a spiral of self-destruction from which he would ultimately never recover.

The new HBO series “The Gilded Age” hails from “Downton Abbey” creator Julian Fellowes, and much like that hit period series, this one features a lot of characters. Several cadres of characters keep the plot pivoting back and forth between households and prominent locations around 1890s New York, as the show tells a story of New York City on the cusp of change, where the battle between old money and new money — as well as old and new ways of doing things — is being fought.
A mix of veteran actors and actresses balance out some newer talent in Julian Fellowes’ latest fictional show — from “Sex and the City’s” Cynthia Nixon to Meryl Streep’s youngest daughter Louisa Jacobson, who plays a main heroine at the heart of aristocratic New York City.

The first episode of the eight-episode season will stream on Friday, October 27, 2023 on Paramount+ with Showtime before premiering on Showtime on October 29 at 9pm Et/Pt.
“Bomer plays charismatic Hawkins Fuller, who maintains a financially rewarding, behind-the-scenes career in politics. Hawkins avoids emotional entanglements – until he meets Tim Laughlin (Bailey), a young man who’s brimming with idealism and religious faith. They begin a romance just as Joseph McCarthy and Roy Cohn declare war on ‘subversives and sexual deviants,’ initiating one of the darkest periods in 20th-century American history,” reads Showtime’s synopsis.

There is much that is lovely to gaze upon in the elegantly tailored documentary “Invisible Beauty,” about fashion maverick Bethann Hardison, whose role in her industry, starting in the late ’60s and continuing into the present, has been remarkable personally and game-changing culturally.
Those five decades — hers and the industry’s — are expertly woven together by co-directors Hardison and Frédéric Tcheng, using a cache of personal photos, a wealth of archival images, clips and interviews sewn together by Hardison’s sharing of recollections and insights. The film is also buoyed by a delicate, sometimes moody piano-led score courtesy of Marc Anthony Thompson, with some additionally vivid musical choices that match the energy of the late, “Black is Beautiful” ’60s and the fashion-fast-forward ’70s.

After a $300 million dollar deal, Ryan Murphy is heading back to where he started — sort of. The “Glee” and “American Horror Story” creator is reportedly planning to leave Netflix for a new deal with the Disney Corporation, bringing him back into the fold with many of his collaborators from his time at 20th Century Fox TV.
According to a report from Bloomberg on Tuesday, Murphy has not finalized his deal with Disney yet, but has spent the past year negotiating with the House of Mouse and reportedly managed to iron out the details before the Writer’s Strike began in May. If the deal goes through, it will reunite Murphy with Dana Walden, who served as the CEO and head of Fox Television when Murphy worked there from 2003, with the premiere of his show “Nip/Tuck,” to 2018. Under Walden’s leadership,...

Among the Emmy categories that “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story” is looking to get nominated in, Best Movie/Limited Actor for its star Daniel Radcliffe is right at the top along with Best TV Movie. The Roku Channel’s hit telefilm may seem like an unconventional nominee, but there are several promising factors that are working in his favor.
The fact that the movie is a flat-out comedy could be viewed as something of an obstacle for it to overcome. But, performances from comedic-dramas have scored noms here, including Jeff Bridges for “A Dog Year” (2010) and Hugh Grant for “A Very English Scandal” (2019). We have also seen three comedy performances contend in this category: two for Ricky Gervais for “Extras: The Extra Special Series Finale” (2008) and “Derek: The Special” (2015) and one for Jesse Plemons for “Black Mirror: USS Callister” (2018).

By this fall Jessica Chastain could be three-quarters of the way to Egot. She won an Oscar last year for “The Eyes of Tammy Faye.” She’s a Tony contender for her Broadway role in “A Doll’s House.” And she has a good chance of winning the Emmy for Best Movie/Limited Actress for playing country legend Tammy Wynette in “George and Tammy.”
“George and Tammy” is a Showtime limited series that explores the lives and careers of country music supercouple Tammy Wynette and George Jones (played by Michael Shannon). The performance earned Chastain a Golden Globe nomination for Best TV Movie/Limited Actress, which she lost to reigning Emmy champ Amanda Seyfried (“The Dropout”). But then Chastain pulled off an upset by beating Seyfried at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. The SAG Awards are presented by industry peers just like the Emmys are, so that was a significant result.

Kieran, who stars as Roman Roy on "Succession," is one of seven kids shared by Kit Culkin and Patricia Brentrup. The pair never married, though their split in the 1990s and ensuing custody battle became tabloid fodder because Kieran's brother Macaulay had become very famous after starring in 1990's "Home Alone" franchise. Kieran revealed in an interview with Esquire published March 27 that his dad - an actor himself - had all seven try to be actors, though only Macaulay (who his siblings call Mack), Kieran, and Rory pursued it seriously.
The family grew up in the Yorkville section of Manhattan, and Kieran says that even though he was just a kid himself, he felt bad for the way fame affected Macaulay's life. "Poor f*cking guy," he told Esquire of his brother.

“Star Wars” is finally getting some recognition for its acting talents. A galaxy far, far away has always been appreciated for its below-the-line work but among the cast only Alec Guinness earned an Oscar nomination across the 11 live-action movies (Best Supporting Actor for “A New Hope” in 1978). One of the small screen expansions of the franchise, “The Mandalorian,” has reaped four Emmy bids for its cast: in 2020, Giancarlo Esposito contended for his guest role while Taika Waititi was up for voicing Ig-11; in 2021, Esposito was promoted to series regular and reaped a supporting bid while Timothy Olyphant and Carl Weathers vied against each other for their guest turns.
That trend looks to continue this year thanks to the influx of “Star Wars” shows gracing our screens on Disney+. Here are six actors who could earn Emmy bids for “Star Wars” shows.

How well do fact-based limited and anthology series perform at the Emmys? (Spoiler alert: very well)
Just as limited and anthology series based on real events have taken over the TV landscape, they have taken over the Emmys. But how well have programs of this particular genre actually gone over with the academy throughout the past few years?
Let’s take a look back at all nominations earned by limited and anthology series starting in 2015; that’s the year in which the rules were tweaked to require that a program can only compete as a limited series if it has a minimum of two episodes with a total running time of at least 150 minutes, tells a complete, non-recurring story, and doesn’t have an ongoing storyline and/or main characters in subsequent seasons.
This rule change came just a year after limited series (referred to as “miniseries” at the time) and TV movies were once again split up into separate program categories, undoing a three-year-old change that consolidated the two awards.

Progress in the face of systemic injustice does not occur naturally, it is urged along by sheer force of will — often by one radical visionary. Prolific TV producer Ryan Murphy accepted the Carol Burnett Award at the Golden Globes on Tuesday night, paying tribute to many of the people he has worked with in front of and behind the screen.
Murphy ran through some of the highlights of his career — Michaela Jaé Rodriguez becoming the first trans actress to win a Golden Globe, seeing “Pose” star Billy Porter, who introduced him, wearing a black tuxedo gown on the Oscars red carpet, and working with actors such as Niecy Nash, Matt Bomer and Jeremy Pope, who were able to present their true selves on screen.
“When I was a young person at home in the ’70s watching ‘The Carol Burnett Show,’ I never ever saw a person like me getting an award or even being a character on a TV show. It’s hard being an LGBTQ kid in America. In fact, all over the world,...

In less than a quarter century, Ryan Murphy has produced 20 TV series (and counting), which means he is only six such credits away from outpacing the legendary Norman Lear. After being honored with the Producers Guild of America’s Norman Lear Award in 2018, Murphy is now going to follow Lear as the next recipient of the Carol Burnett Golden Globe Award for career achievement in television. Like his predecessor, he has earned this tribute because he has made a name for himself as an innovative and inclusive creator whose body of work constitutes its own distinct era within TV history.
At 57, Murphy is the youngest Carol Burnett Award honoree so far. After originally being bestowed upon its namesake (85) in 2019, the special prize has gone to Ellen DeGeneres and Lear. According to Hollywood Foreign Press Association President Helen Hoehne, Murphy was chosen because of his unique ability to “enthrall audiences with...

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association was set to announce Murphy’s Carol Burnett Award on Thursday morning. The news means that Murphy will be on hand at the 80th annual Golden Globe Awards on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023, to accept the honor.

The latest addition is Maxim Swinton (Fleishman Is in Trouble), who will play the stepson of star and esxecutive producer Sebastian Maniscalco. Swinton joins an ensemble that also includes Omar J. Dorsey, Andrea Anders, Vanessa Ferlito and Jorge Garcia.
How to Be a Bookie is Lorre’s first show for HBO Max, which gave it a straight-to-series order in October. After a series of misses at Netflix, Ryan Murphy’s fortunes at the streamer are up in a big way. The producer’s two most recent series for the streamer, “Monster” and “The Watcher,” have been picked up for future seasons, Netflix announced Monday.
Both shows are true crime series that Murphy created with his frequent collaborator Ian Brennan, premiered this fall, and touted as one-season miniseries. “Monster,” which bore the full title of “Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” during its first season, will return for two additional seasons as an anthology series, focusing on other “monstrous” figures in history. “The Watcher,” which Murphy and Brennan co-created with Eric Newman, has been renewed for a Season 2, and will presumably follow the same cast of characters as the first season.
“Audiences can’t take their eyes off ‘Monster’ and ‘The Watcher,'” Netflix global TV head Bela Bajaria said in a statement.

After breakout successes from Ryan Murphy’s two latest Netflix series, the streamer is doubling (and tripling) down on both.
Netflix has ordered two additional installments of Monster after huge viewing figures for its Jeffrey Dahmer-focused season and picked up a second season of The Watcher. The former will become an anthology series a la Murphy’s FX shows American Horror Story and American Crime Story, with “stories of other monstrous figures who have impacted society,” per Netflix. Creative details about season two of The Watcher are being kept quiet for now, so it’s unclear if it too will become an anthology or continue the unsettling story from the first season, which left several things open-ended.
Murphy and long-time collaborator Ian Brennan created Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, and the two teamed with Narcos boss Eric Newman on The Watcher.

Netflix has ordered two additional installments of “Monster,” the true crime anthology series that began with an account of Jeffrey Dahmer (portrayed by Evan Peters), as well as renewed “The Watcher,” based on the real-life stalking of an East Coast nuclear family. The news comes amid creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy’s domination of the Netflix Top 10 list since both shows’ premieres.
“Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” has racked up 934 million viewing hours as of Nov. 1, and is projected by the platform to top a billion in the coming weeks. It is the second most popular English-language TV season on Netflix behind only “Stranger Things 4.” The limited series-turned-anthology show also broke a Nielsen record as the seventh most viewed streaming program in the U.S. in a single week.

Few movie stars maintain character actor quality throughout their careers. Perhaps Ewan McGregor's Scottish underdog background lends itself to his natural ability to embody nearly every type of character with winsome charm and wit. While he's arguably best known for portraying legendary Jedi knight Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars franchise, McGregor's career is far more than studio tentpole films. As an actor and producer from early in his career, McGregor has continually sought out countercultural roles that go against the traditional Hollywood story.
In films such as "Shallow Grave" (1994), "Trainspotting" (1996), and "Miss Potter" (2006), McGregor portrays rockstars, drug addicts, queer icons, crooks, and romantic leads, all with equal doses of empathy and charisma. Unlike many movie stars of his caliber, McGregor has also embraced television throughout his career, receiving Emmy nominations and awards for his work on "Fargo" and "Halston." Yet, McGregor's film work remains some of his best and most beloved.

Prolific producer Ryan Murphy has delivered Netflix his first no-doubt-about-it certified hit with the oddly titled “Dahmer—Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” generating 701 million hours of self-reported global viewership in its first three weeks. The only problem is that this smashing success comes just as Murphy’s 2018 overall deal with the streamer, worth up to 300 million, is set to expire next year. The timing highlights the mixed results that Netflix has had after inking a wave of producer megadeals several years ago.
In its third week of release, “Dahmer” remains the No. 1 show on the streaming service, and became the second most popular English-language series in Netflix history, with 701.4 million hours viewed.
Murphy’s envy-inducing contract came one year after Netflix lured ABC broadcast queen Shonda Rhimes for a 100 million deal and then extended it in 2021 (with a hefty raise). The streamer then signed “Black-ish” creator Kenya Barris’ for nine figures,...

Ryan Murphy’s true crime limited series Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story has been a massive hit for Netflix, a dominant #1 series globally since its Sept. 21 release and on track to become the streamer’s second most popular English-language show only behind Season 4 of Stranger Things. Released Wednesday, Oct. 5, horror film Mr. Harrigan’s Phone, which Murphy produced, also quickly shot up to the top spot, giving the prolific writer-producer-director the #1 Film and #1 TV Series in the U.S. on Friday. It is believed to be the first time a producer has held the two top spots simultaneously.

“Dahmer” is the buzziest show on TV right now, dominating both the cultural conversation and the list of Netflix’s top 10 most-viewed shows. But while questions abound about the show’s sensitivity toward Jeffrey Dahmer’s victims and Evan Peters’ accent, one big question has come to the forefront as the show fully entered the zeitgeist: Is this Ryan Murphy’s first runaway hit for Netflix?
Two weeks after it was first released, “Dahmer” remains the No. 1 show on the streaming service, recording at total of 496 million hours viewed after its first 12 days. The first week viewership trailed behind only “Stranger Things 4” and “Bridgerton” Season 2 in terms of Netflix series debuts this year. In fact, the word-of-mouth has helped solidify “Dahmer” as the ninth most popular English-language show in Netflix history.

Jeffrey Dahmer is a hit for Netflix and for Ryan Murphy.
Dahmer: Monster – The Jeffrey Dahmer Story drew a huge audience on its launch with 196.2M people tuning in since its launch on September 21.
Those numbers put it in the very top tier of Netflix hits since it changed the way that it reports ratings figures in June 2021.
Only Squid Game, All of Us Are Dead, season four of Stranger Things and season two of Bridgerton have beaten it in that period and the limited series beat shows such as Inventing Anna, which opened with 195.97M viewers, and the third season of You, which scored 179M.
It’s hard to compare to Murphy’s other Netflix series such as The Politician (September 2019), Hollywood (May 2020), Ratched (September 2020) and Halston (May 2021) as they all debuted before Netflix shifted the way that it reports its data, but it’s likely that The Jeffrey...

Ewan McGregor is having quite the year. After his Emmy-winning performance in Netflix's "Halston" and the immense success of his return as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Disney+ limited series, the "Star Wars" legend will be next seen in an adaptation of a beloved novel.

Jelani Alladin, Noah J. Ricketts, and Linus Roache have all been cast as series regulars in the show. They join previously announced leads Matt Bomer, Jonathan Bailey, and Allison Williams.
The series is based on the novel of the same name by Thomas Mallon. Bomer will play handsome, charismatic Hawkins Fuller, who maintains a financially rewarding, behind-the scenes career in politics. Hawkins avoids emotional entanglements – until he meets Tim Laughlin (Bailey), a young man brimming with idealism and religious faith. They begin a romance just as Joseph McCarthy and Roy Cohn declare war on “subversives and sexual deviants,” initiating one of the darkest periods in 20th-century American history. Over the course of four decades, Hawk and Tim cross paths through the Vietnam War protests of the 1960s, the drug-fueled disco hedonism of the 1970s and the AIDS crisis of the 1980s,...

Obsessing over needle drops on buzzy shows has become a fun pastime in the era of peak TV. But music supervisor Jen Malone, whose credits include “Euphoria,” “The Offer,” “Atlanta,” “Yellowjackets” and many other series, warns us not to forget our TV history.
“Music has always been a part of the storytelling process,” she points out. Even in the broadcast era.
We may not remember these moments because, in many cases, songs that aired on TV episodes then were cleared for one-time use and stripped out of repeats.
Sadly, I was too young to remember “Wkrp in Cincinnati” during its original CBS run, but I will never forget the tearful scene where the Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows” played on ABC’s “The Wonder Years” in 1991 or Billy Vera and the Beaters’ “At This Moment” punctuated a key romantic moment on NBC’s “Family Ties.”

Vachon is resolutely pragmatic about the future of indie cinema in the face of the growing primacy of the streamers and the high-end TV drama.
The blissful ignorance of youth allowed Christine Vachon to turn up at her first Sundance Film Festival in the late 1980s with a small suitcase suspiciously light in warm clothes.
“It didn’t occur to me I needed to dress for the snow,” she recalls now. “I just didn’t know much about the place.”
Vachon was in a ”cold and wintry” Park City with some short films she had directed and smiles now to say,...
