The end is nigh
GomezAddams66627 July 2020
Some viewers may consider this one a filler episode, but that would be the farthest from the truth, There isn't much action, but it paved the way to the inevitable catharsis of this first season.

Courtney and her friends are dealing with the death of Henry, for which everyone blames themselves except the actual murderer, and if that was not enough, a revelation comes upon Courtney that may put in jeopardy her belief on the legacy she trusted herself upon.

Another thing worth mentioning is that we get to see the limits of the depravity of the ISA, and though it has been clear they needed to be stopped from the beginning, the stakes have been raised higher.

It almost felt like the montage before a great battle, but it is clear the end is nigh.

Our Queen Has Risen!

Warning: Spoilers
Wow! another great episode.. I think Brainwave is most scariest villain in the ISA. The look on Jordan's face when he found out about Courtney was priceless. Really loved the story about Sir. Justin.. Still the big battle is yet to come.. Next 2 episodes will be Blast.

She has RISEN!

Warning: Spoilers
After last weeks episode it's no no surprise that coming into this weeks episode that it would feel a little dark even with the light overtones. And boy did it deliver. And Courtney's dad is a real scumbag. Now I'm not real versed in the comic book issue. But I can see that the staff was waiting for her to embrace her once again. There where nice moments in the episode between her and her friends. Including Pat. And the reveal of The Shining Knight was sad. But really good. And you can really feel the Evilness of villains this episode. Especially when it came between Icicle, and Brainwave. I'm eagerly waiting for next weeks episode.

The calm before the storm.

Great episode. This episode was necessary to solve some plot issues, and questions that were made through the entire season. It explains everything which is necessary to begin the war between the JSA and the ISA. Great set-up for the season finale. Our queen has risen!

The penultimate episode brings fantastic character development and superb drama
Holt34428 July 2020
This is technically the penultimate episode of the first season of Stargirl that have mostly been great and it shows in the world building, directing and overall writing. The acting have so far been great and believable.

This episode is titled Shining Knight and it's called that for a reason, will Justin the Janitor remember who he really are? The episode has us see the aftermath of last episode and a lot happened. We also get to see one storyline from the comics and it's a huge arc for Courtney, a guy called Sam comes and tells her that he is her father. Is he? Geoff Johns wrote it perfectly as he probably did in the comics. On the villain side we get more Brainwave and Icicle, and more or their big plan called Project New America.

This episode is a character driven one so no action, that can be bad for some viewers but this has some great character development and storytelling for Courtney and Pat, brilliantly played by the two actors. You can really feel their emotions, Brec Bassinger completely killed it.

This was quality drama and something that we needed. It deserves a better rating but I get it, it was really slow paced with lots of dialogue. No action. But why do I think it deserves a 9/10? It's because it has a lot of heart, Geoff Johns understands the characters and knows that the episode that sets up the season finale would only hurt from having forced fight sequences and what he wrote and director managed to do was incredible.

Heartfelt

Warning: Spoilers
This episode was filled to the brim with emotional and impactful moments. All of the stuff between Courtney and her father was fantastic, as we saw Courtney go through a huge emotional journey. The Sir Justin stuff (while maybe not prevalent enough to get the episode named after it) was also interesting, as we got to hear about this awesome hero however we only saw him as very sunken, to the point where it was depressing how far he'd fallen. Pat shined this episode, with many strong moments between both Courtney and Justin. It feels weird giving out this many 10/10s for a show but this series really deserves it.

One hell of a ride!

Warning: Spoilers
The episodes just keep on getting better and more better! My lord, this really gave Courtney some more moments like she was claiming that she was the main cause of why Henry died and it was all her fault that she made Blue Valley not a safe place. I really like to see the dark sides of characters just like this, it was a perfect example.

And oh my word, the ending, that just really give me off vibes that you shouldn't mess Brainwave, he's probably the scariest of out of the ISA.

Needed for plot development.
rlscates-532-87274327 July 2020
This was obviously an episode that was needed for plot progression and to wrap up storylines...still didn't make it any easier to watch. The only thing I'm taking from this episode as a positive is that it seems like they are saving up fight scenes. This episode had NO action scenes. Not one at all, but that makes me hopeful for these last two episodes. They've probably been saving their budget to make sure that they can go all out and are absolutely game changing. I can't wait to see what they give us.

Easily the worst episode so far.
myriadmusicprod1 August 2020
Bad writing, mediocre acting and weak direction make this the slowest and most boring episode so far. While most episodes of SG are a worthy 8ish, this one hovers at a lowly 4.5 for me. I Hope they get back to their normal above par performances.

Struggling to make it down the stretch
hnt_dnl29 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The first few episodes really had me hooked on this show, but now I'm REALLY trying to make it to the Season 1 finish line! LOL After this episode, I can honestly say that this show is kind of standard and is a chore to watch. It's not awful, but it's not great either. Out of the last 7 episodes, I've only thought that at most a couple of them were great and this definitely ain't one of them. And I get it, this was supposed to be a character study on Courtney, but that didn't make it any less slow or boring. And it was most definitely SLOW and BORING. This show isn't supposed to be some sad drama and that's all this episode was. But I will say it was great to see Courtney finally get her comeuppance and put an end to this annoying "Starman was my father" nonsense she spouted for the first 10 episodes. While I give Bassinger credit for doing a decent acting job, at the same time, I generally don't even take most of these characters seriously, especially when the show generally "features" such mediocre acting and has such a ridiculous character like Beth.

Much as I love Pat and Yolanda (and sort of like Courtney), the New JSA is a joke. What exactly is Pat teaching these kids? I haven't seen him do anything to actually train an of them. With Rick, it's another episode of him "reading his father's journal off camera" and with Beth it's another episode in the background play driving a vehicle. And Yolanda is off mourning that overrated Henry character off screen. And I'm fully expecting these "kids" to defeat the JSA in the end and somehow be leading the show starting in Season 2. Yet they've got the absolute worst collective character development of anyone on the show. Honestly, I think both Barb and Mike feel like more fleshed out characters than these teenagers! And what is the deal with this mumbling, bumbling, incoherent Janitor character? I've seen fans speculate and rave about his weird goofball for 10 episodes, yet I feel like I'm staring at a wall whenever this guy shows up. Are people honestly entertained or engaged by characters like this?

But the best acting job in this one once again is given by Christopher James Baker as Brainwave/HenrySr. Early on, I wasn't completely on board with this "villains make the show" spiel that fans were proclaiming, but then this character was in a coma for most of that time and I wasn't as enamored with Icicle as everyone else was and he's really stood out as well in these last couple of episodes. And what's sad is that these awesome characters played by these great actors will probably soon be no more on this show where we will be left with the Saturday morning cartoon acting of characters like Beth "Goggle Girl" Chapel. And once Stargirl moves to the CW, expect a lot more silly characters like this one. The unofficial slogan of the network is basically "Dumb Characters Welcome" anyway.

The formula is starting to set in.
rorygunn29 July 2020
This show started off pretty good.Despite an somewhat unlikeable lead character there were some good moments but now with this episode we get that standard formula that has pretty much ruined The Flash which isn't surprising since the same people who ruined/run that show also run this show which means we're going to get episodes like this one where the hero or heroine gets plagued by doubts and has to constantly get uplifting pep talks from the team and those around them telling them they can do it and then miraculously they get their confidence back and defeat the baddie for that episode until the next time they get doubts and need a pep talk. Also everyone except for that ONE person will know their secret identity thus making the concept moot.I had really hoped this show wold be different from the rest but now it seems the formula that plague all these shows is starting to set in.

Nope still a pile of teen drama codswallop
gareth-754428 August 2020
The only plus for this episode is exactly the same as all the episodes before, Luke Wilson, apart from Neil Jackson Wilson is by far the standout actor in this show with the rest of the cast being pretty much amateurish at best. The storyline/plot is almost comatose, lacklustre writing goes hand in hand with lack of imagination, action scenes laced with cgi are merely pointless eyecandy with little to zero interaction between characters in costume or civilian clothes, endless moping & squabbling of the so called heroes makes for repetitive & boring viewing, clear indication the writers of this show have no idea how to handle this genre & so chose the safe option of teen drama,11 episodes & still no one has been saved or rescued no crime has been thwarted & no her has emerged. "Stargirl" a cosplay comedy at best.
