It wasn't too bad.

I am a massive fan of Martin Clunes, he's clearly an actor in demand, and a terrific actor. His new comedy, Warren, gets off to a decent start, I liked the humour, even if I didn't laugh loudly.

I like the idea of a grumpy driving instructor, a self styled Victor Meldrew behind the wheel.

I think there's milage in this comedy, so I'm going to stick with it, Clunes wouldn't have signed up to a dud.

Not Bad

A pleasant, gentle comedy. Clunes is really funny throughout and I thought most of the supporting cast were pretty good too. Sad to hear people saying that they turned off after ten minutes: really objective reviewing there.

Good opener

I enjoyed the first episode of this rather whacky sitcom. Some funny lines but hoping for a bit more as the series goes on. Will tune in next week though it has lots of potential

Is Dick van Dyke back?
oddfart26 February 2019
This is horribly unfunny, with Clunes speaking in an accent that even Dick van Dyke would be embarrassed by! I've never been so disappointed in any of his characters/situations. To call it 'clumsy' is to be too kind. I struggled to make it through the entire episode, as did the 'plot' and characters.

The Pond

Martin Clunes returns to comedy in Warren. I use the word comedy in its loosest term.

In the first episode Clunes plays a misanthropic and penny pinching driving instructor Warren Thompson. He has moved to Lancashire so his partner can care for her elderly father.

Warren gets his stepson a job at a garden centre so he can benefit from a staff discount. His other stepson is frustrated that they are still on dial up internet (which I doubt is even available nowadays.)

Over the course of the episode we see Warren fly tipping, not giving his students a proper driving lesson, embarrass his stepson on his first day at work, even trying to steal from his neighbours and the local petrol station.

You would think grumpy Warren would be frustrated at the world like Victor Meldrew used to be. However Warren is a person you care little about because he is not sympathetic enough.

At least Clunes gives an energetic performance but he is a character that needs softening up and the writing needs some proper comedy.
