Genuinely enjoyed
sarahkubar15 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
No it's not original. How original can a paranormal investigation horror movie get these days? I really enjoyed the acting - it seemed quite genuine which added to the realistic aspect of it, supposedly mocking a true story. I also appreciated the different approach to possession. It wasn't a demon, but rather a Nazi war criminal's spirit. When we think about how evil and cruel a human being can become - a Nazi is definitely up there. All in all, I probably wouldn't watch it again BUT I did enjoy watching it the first time.

I Knew it Was Reinhard Heydrich!!
tvdefrancesco14 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I was all excited to guess who the spirit was and then they told us. I knew it was him once Dylan wrote the Nazi phrase on the mirror. I'm a WW2 history buff and knew Heydrich was born in 1904. Heydrich is one of the worst people ever born in the history of the earth. Historians say the Holocaust and Final Solutions were just ideas but they needed a man like Heydrich to actually carry the atrocities out.

Some of his nicknames include the Butcher of Prague, The Evil God of Death, and the Man with the Iron Heart. He is a despicable person and I'm glad the Czechs were able to kill him in 1942.

This movie could have been a lot better. And we've seen it a 100 times now. Mildly enjoyable though. I give it a 5. Dylan should have been way more aggressive, racist, cruel, and psychotic if he was Heydrich. He also should have left the house. Also off camera death not cool. Not cool at all.

They tried
m_a_j_z23 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I liked what they tried to do, I enjoyed the set-up and I haven't put myself through a lot of found footage horror films, so I really didn't mind any lack of originality in that respect. Were this film executed well, I'd have been really happy with it. Unfortunately I was not happy with it.

There were a few instances where I felt characters were answering questions before the questions were being asked (Gaby!), which made for unnatural and kind of awkward conversation every now and then. Also the mother took me out of it. I'm sure the actress tried, I just found her performance unbelievable. Same for Dylan in the hospital scene, I just didn't buy it.

Dylan spoke another language repeatedly, and what really bugged me is the obvious French accent in it. I don't mind accents, it's just that when this is supposedly a ghost-demon-character speaking its native tongue, I expect it to speak the language in question flawlessly. Dylan also calls "Come here Andrei" a few times and I think they mistranslated... unless that is supposed to be yet another language that happens to be similar (which wouldn't make sense either).

These are all matters of execution and with a great story I might have been able to forgive most -if not all- of that, but unfortunately the character of the ghost didn't make sense to me. Why would a dead person from country X run around at 3 AM? Why would he make gestures over sleeping people? Why does he intentionally cause harm to the meat vessel he is currently occupying? It just doesn't add up to me and as a result the entire thing fell flat.

Paranormal Investigation: We've seen this already, can we have something original now?
Platypuschow3 March 2019
I came across this via Netflix and being the movie masochist I am I foolishly ventured in despite my belief that France simply cannot do horror.

You know the drill, a paranormal investigator goes somewhere and bad stuff happens. On this occasion it's not a team but one person and he's following a young man whose behavior shifted after participating in a Ouija session.

Not found footage but mostly done through fixed cams and with lots of night vision (Most of it pink for some reason) it certainly looks like it had some money behind it but alas they couldn't pay for competent writers.

Now at first after heading onto IMDB I couldn't find the film and was ready to add it myself. Eventually I located it only to discover a bare bones page which demonstrates just how much the creators cared about their creation. The name, a poster and that's basically it. The IMDB community clearly recognized this and not only does it have a poor rating but only 8 people had bothered to watch it.

This boys and girls is what NOT to do when your a movie maker, if you don't care about your film why should others?

Back to the film as I said the writing here is flawed, partially a weak script and partially because they had absolutely nothing to work with. It's as unoriginal as movies get, you'll have seen it all before and it's the absolute pits.

Hop, skip and jump over this generic possession mess.

The Good:

Nope

The Bad:

Pink night vision is just senseless

Devoid of originality

Nonsense
BurtGGummer12 March 2019
With the least original movie title of the decade this is yet another of the very same boring investigation type movie where absolutely nothing happens. Nightvision, screaming, religious hysteria and lots and lots of nothing.

Why You Watch This Movie, Dimi?
clintstevens21 March 2019
Ridiculous plot, horrendous acting, cheap special effects. Did I miss anything? The lead actor looks like he will collapse any moment from lack of nourishment. Get some meat on those bones, boy!

Perhaps if they had developed the characters from the Ouija board opening scene, the movie might have been a little interesting.

Bottom line: It is a bargain basement 'The Exorcist' and deserves to remain in the basement.

Boring and unoriginal

Really slow, with a scant plot that has been done many times before. Brings nothing new to the table.

Total crap!
nobaddaysincabotony5 September 2022
I had 2 hours with absolutely nothing to do...................at first, thought this was going to be another lame Blair Witch Project, but from France. Well to my surprise............it was!! Total crap. Do producers actually waste their money doing these? Really? So lame and so many mistakes. Why was most of Dylan's words not translated and put onscreen? So he just happened to have that nice freshly pressed officer's uniform waiting for him in his closet for this special night? Makeup was like for a Halloween costume. Why was the priest not wanting to meet the parents? Don't know......they didn't explain. And the typical ending for a totally made up movie story.... In the entire movie he had his camera rolling WITH him....but at the end....he leaves it outside on the step pointing at the door........did you guess what was going to happen??? ELEMENTARY!!!! Waste of time totally. Piece of crap. BOOO!!

Watched it till the end
Pinouchipop12 June 2021
Nothing new there. Well... There is something, when I think a bit more: a genuine sense of authenticity. You believe it is actually happening, for real. The characters are engaging and the acting is very good.

That is obviously the reason I watched it till the end, which I found less believable (how did Andreï succeed in finding such information so so quickly and easily?

And the final scene was utterly predictable, therefore disappponting. That is why three stars are missing...

Not that bad But :
zepharian12 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Overall, this movie was okay. Not to bad, not to good, but we have seen all of this mostly. But there was one thing that kind confused me : The "Ghost" states that he was murdered in 1904. But later we see Dylan (and hear) did the god damn salute and hailing Hitler. He also wears in one scene a outfit, looking like a Hitleryouth or Sturmabteilung Uniform. He also writtes down "Wir sind die Herren der Welt". There is a "conclusion" in the end, but it then says the ghost was born in 1904. Maybe lost in translation ?

Well, I enjoyed it
ainemm197417 April 2019
I chose not to take this too seriously and I found myself glued to the screen. It could be because I ghost hunt as I agree there are better movies out there. Still, if you're bored I feel it's worth a shot.

Better than I expected
dreamingskychild5 January 2022
To be honest, I went into watching Paranormal Investigation with very low expectations, especially after reading reviews on here. I've come out of it though, with the unpopular opinion that this film isn't actually bad. It's not great, but I did think it was an interesting watch, and for the most part, the acting by those that played the parents and son was done really well. I'd probably only recommend this film to those who are fans of the found footage genre; if that's you, then I believe it's worth a watch.

This is so bad
jentendslesloups4 April 2022
There are some good low budget films out there, but this is just a cheap bad movie.

The scenario is empty, it doesn't make sense and none of the characters are interesting. The way it's filmed is just a copy of Paranormal Activity (but no, now the night vision is pink !). It's slow and the only moment where I actually wanted to see what was happening, the camera wasn't filming the action.

How did this succeed to join Netflix is beyond me, I except this kind of a awful movie to the deepest part of Amazon Prime.

Tas de Merde!
brandon_veracka21 March 2019
Many amateur and wannabe filmmakers these days are making possession movies and movies based on the found footage premise; this melds the two together in a "sandwich au merde". Some of them are okay, most are bad, some are awful. This one's awful. It takes the basic premises of "The Exorcist" and "Paranormal Activity", removes all of what made those movies good, and retains the leftovers. This one has every cliché of a film in its genre, except it executes them in a way which leaves you frustrated as hell, and swearing like an angry Frenchman.

Overall Disappointing
blaisebuendia-1666020 February 2020
Found on Netflix. Went into the movie hoping to see some twist on the usual paranormal investigation type mockumentary film, but was sorely disappointed. The plot lacked in setting up the mood and general scary feel, as well as had major plot holes leaving me dumbfounded at the end of movie-and not in a good way.

If you're looking for a good horror movie, do not look to Paranormal Investigation.

Paranormal Boredom
vmalast28 May 2019
There was nothing remotely scary about this film. Yes, low budget, even a blockbuster budget couldn't save this movie. The acting was wooden and silly as was the action of the characters. Pink night vision? Still trying to figure out the whys for that choice. I fell asleep halfway through (I didnt have nightmares) tried to finish watching after rereading the "glorious all posted on the same day 10 star reviews " nudge, nudge, wink wink. Waiting for anything to happen. No. You dont need millions of dollars in special effects to make a great horror film. You do need a good scrip, believable actors, a director and halfway decent photography. this failed on all levels. Skip it unless you're having sleep issues. you'll fall asleep quickly.

Nada. Don't waste your time with an investigator that fits the bar of a gigolo. Plot is weak, acting is beyond repulsive.😆

Worth Your Time
ldlazda27 March 2019
I deplore critiquing for what it does to critics. They lose themselves as an individual and the ability to simply observe, departs them. That is why I don't read critic reviews before watching a movie any more. The nonstop focus of the acting, creates a sense of a real life experience. You are able to feel the real life concern of Dylan's parents and the investigator. It will leave you wanting more and questioning whether it's a true story.

Not sure
denikjanku17 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I found this on Netflix, and was not sure what is it gonna be about. At first i really believed that it is a documentary, but then the thing with hitler and the bloody check on Andrei's cheeks it blew the whole movie. After this it whole felt super fake and I started to feel disappointed and bored... But not to be too criticizing I liked the cams and some of the jump scares were scary, but that is just all.

Stop spitting
kayless-411123 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The kid spit in the priest face about 10 times. You'd think after the first time they'd tape his mouth. When the parents were asked to leave their home, I thought to myself, it's the kid who's the issue, why can't they fix "him" somewhere else? Very cliche, and that being said, I still watched it to the end. Overall, It was a cute movie. If you've lots of spare time and just need to fill in some space in your day, this movie may do the trick.

Watched it til the end
fotografm-651022 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I thought this was a documentary due to the obvious lact of a script and weak storyline. Since I have some knowledge in the subject matter of this film I decided to watch it to the end. I was disappointed by the lame techniques used by the priest and the lack of action of the parents. Wouldn't you put someone in hosptial if they exhibited these symptoms ? For the many people who complained: infrared cameras actually do output a pink image unless they of the more military variety which output green. I felt there was confusion between "investigating" and "helping" and "solving the problem". The motives of the investigator were not clear. Should he grab a grab a camera or a crucifix when things start to happen ? As a film school project the movie was probably not that bad but discerning audiences have come to expect more !
