The BEST film of 2004 (better than vol 1)
19 August 2004
Warning: Spoilers
*spoilers warning*

I originally saw Vol 1 on DVD, loved it and saw vol 2 on opening night. I also received vol 2 on DVD the day it came out and I stand firmly by the belief of what Tarantino said. "vol 1 has the questions, vol 2 has the answers." This is so true. After viewing 1, your head is dizzy. But volume 2 fills all those gaping holes like The Bride's name, the location of Bill, the fate of her daughter, and the other 2 she needs to get rid of and exactly how did that Massacre at Two Pines happen? I will not say what the best part, but look for the subtle references to what lies in store for The Bride and what kind of man Bill is. The characters are well-developed, the screenplay moves at a good pace, and the ending is awesome. I just wish it was longer. One last thing to add: David Carradine is worthy of an Oscar as Best Supporting Actor and Uma as Best Actress.

They reeled in another one
24 July 2004
It's official: I AM LOVING THIS SHOW. :)) OMG, there is something about Grissom and Sara that is undeniable. And William Petersen's portrayal of Grissom is the best I have ever seen. He is totally in love with Sara. He just doesn't want to risk his career and everthing he has worked for. The entire cast is awesome as well. Helgenberger and Warrick knock it out of the park too. NOTE TO WRITERS: Please let either Sara or Grissom express their feelings for each other. Then, they can choose to go with it or not. Keep the twisted crimes coming too. Best drama on TV next to Six Feet Under and 24. 10/10

Big Fish (2003)
A big fish of a film
26 April 2004
A long time Tim Burton fan, I was anxious to see this film for the story of a father who tells tales that you can't quite figure out if they are unbelievably ridiculous or true in a sense but exaggerated beyond belief. Whatever it is, it works in the way that we find out what we need to find out. Ewan Macgregor looks as though he stepped out of a 50's Crest Toothpaste commercial; Albert Finney who is always wise beyond his years. Yes there are elements of the ridiculous- Karl the giant, the Japanese twins and Calloway the circus manager (who is something else entirely by night). But it's okay-because in the end, it develops as a beautiful father/son story.

Words cannot even describe how incredible this film was
2 January 2004
Well, we are at the end of the trilogy. And what an end it was. Stayed true to the book every minute. I've never looked at 3 films the way I have looked at these 3. How did they do it? Would they do it again? Say whatever you want about these or any other trilogy for that matter, but this murders every other one (especially Star Wars-Lucas doesn't hold a candle to Tolkien). I think the end is best left unsaid. Brilliant from start to finish, enough said, no more to say....

For a myriad of reasons, it was the best movie of the summer
2 December 2003
Anyone who has ever been to Disneyland has rode Pirates of the Caribbean. And, it's often everyone's favorite ride, I know it's mine. However, I was excited to watch because it has the 2 hottest guys in Hollywood: Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom, and the story appealed to everyone. It has everything: action, plenty of laughs, great cast and characters, and a good plot. Hopefully, if Disney continues to make movies of its attractions, they won't fall short on characters and plot holes. Bring the whole family for this one. Watch for the similarities from the ride: the dog holding the keys in the jail, and the wonderful song, "Yo ho ho, the life of a pirate for me." Dead men tell no tales.

Spaceballs (1987)
"It's Mega Maid-she's gone from suck to blow"
30 November 2003
However, this movie has never sucked. I've seen it over 30 times, and still laugh each time. Quite possibly one of the 10 funniest films ever. Watch at ludicrous speed. "I am your father's brother's cousins uncle's former roomate." I dare anyone not to quote the endless lines from this films, it is filled with more one liners than Eddie Murphy. "You have the ring, and I see your schwartz is as big as mine".

Charming
17 October 2003
This film probably started the whole romantic genre. Gable and Colbert are sweet together, and the ending is fabulous! Unusual that it won all the major Oscars since it is a comedy, but it still works 70 years later. A must have for any classic movie romantic comedy lover..

Finding Nemo (2003)
This is now the 2nd best animated film I have ever seen
8 October 2003
This movie stands in line next to my personal favorite, Lilo and Stitch. But from Pixar, the best is obviously Monsters Inc and both Toy Story's. What drives this film and makes it delightful is not only its animation (which you want in every aspect of your field of vision), but its heartfelt story that kids and adults can relate to. Marlin as the constantly funny Albert Brooks does nothing less than what we know from him, and the short term memory Dory by the wonderful Ellen Degeneres never failed to entertain me and my family. But what parents can take from the film is to believe in your kids, don't constantly watch over them, let them breathe and have fun!!! Maybe great white shark Bruce (as the film's most intimidating character, and the bully all kids recognize) sums up the best words of the film, "fish are friends, not food." 10/10

Citizen Kane (1941)
"You're awful funny aren't you?"
26 September 2003
The exact words to sum up Orson's take on the supposed life of WR Hearst. Deny it all you want, it was about him. While it's not my favorite film, it ranks up there will one of the best films of all time. Best scenes are : News on the March intro, Susan yelling at Charlie after her opera debut and the beginning mortal words ever captured on film: "Rosebud." While these are not all the best scenes, the film is filled with them. Why didn't this film win more Oscars? Welles should have won best actor and best director. Watch it once, then again to understand it better....10/10

Frida (2002)
Salma Hayek IS Frida Kahlo
6 September 2003
Besides the fact that Salma is one of my favorite actresses, the film succeeds on many different levels. Most Hollywood biographies can be a bit trite, but Salma approaches Kahlo with such brutal honesty at times, you forget this is a movie. It's as if Alfred Molina and Salma really are married, we are just the spectators in the show. Both actors show no inhibition and untruthfulness, and this is exactly why their relationship worked for as long as it did. Rivera and Khalo were soulmates and it is hard to imagine anyone else portraying them. The performances did nothing but help the film move along at a good speed, there is never a dull moment with these two. Should have won more awards than it did, and I don't hesitate giving it my highest review (which I hardly ever give), 10/10. One of the best films of 2002.

The Pianist (2002)
The sheer horror and brilliance of this film cannot be described in words
29 March 2003
I will admit that when Adrien Brody won the Oscar last weekend, his speech was so moving and genuine that I was immediately drawn to wanting to see the film, and I'm glad I waited until after the awards to see it for the first time. The depth of his performance is absolute madness. Everything that happens to him in this film shows the genuine triumph of the human spirit. His love for playing the piano is what keeps him alive when everything around him is destroyed, and his music was the only thing that remained constant in his life. The fact that this film was directed by Roman Polanski is the best part. A fellow Holocaust survivor, what Polanski survived came across every frame of this film. Simply put, no one else could have directed the film. However, the film is one word: DISTURBING. It moves at a good pace, never drags and in one scene, (no spoilers) Brody truly realizes exactly how close he has been to death. Not hesitating, this is simply one of the best movies I have ever seen.

Lilo & Stitch (2002)
My new favorite Disney movie
2 March 2003
I'm 24, and I love this movie! It puts a smile on my face every time I watch it. Also, the Elvis songs on the soundtrack are great. Kids are sure to become Elvis fans now! Disney has now provided us with a fresh, funny and original idea and it comes at a good time since this was not like other Disney films. No evil queens or stepmothers, and a main character with a heart of gold who only wants a friend. Stitch will win your heart. Also, Ving Rhames' character was modeled exactly after Marcellus Wallace in Pulp Fiction. He provided a fun spoof of himself. "Thus far you can been adrift in the sheltered harbor of my patience." A delight for the whole family and adults of all ages. 10/10

Even more superior to Fellowship
19 December 2002
First of all, I would like to say that Peter Jackson is the only director who could have done these films. It is overly apparent that he knows the books. He has portrayed Tolkien's vision in a way that Tolkien himself could never have imagined. When I saw Fellowship last year, I knew nothing about the stories, and after viewing it, I immediately bought all the books and was instantly hooked. I thought "It can only get better from here", and I was right. The Two Towers never falters, and its action sequences are unlike anything you have ever seen. Unlike Fellowship, this is Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli's film. Frodo and Sam provide the journey to the story, of trying to get rid of the now-heavy and prominent force over Frodo's life. The effects are what made the movie fantastic, they look so real! Although the film is 3 hours, it felt like 20 minutes. I felt as though Jackson had provided seats right there in New Zealand for us, and we watched from the sides like spectators at a football game. Now the hardest part: waiting one more year for the final film. The best movie of the year. *****/5 stars

An essential film for every mother and daughter
27 November 2002
We should all be so lucky to have 3 lifelong friends as dear as these 3. What I loved about the film was that it makes you re-evaluate the relationship you have with your mother, and that the film never drags. There is a new surprise every 10 minutes and the performances are fantastic, especially Maggie Smith and Ashley Judd. The men may enjoy it too: but I saw it with my mother, and I'm glad I did. My favorite film of the year! ****

Barbershop (2002)
Enjoyable, fun film
1 October 2002
Probably one of the funniest films of the year. It is fresh, original and hysterical. Ice Cube is lovable as the owner just trying to make things right. Especially funny is Cedric the Entertainer, who is constantly telling history and moral stories. Watch for his comments about Martin Luther King! After all the crap Hollywood has put out this year, it was good to see a comedic gem. Highly recommended.

"All I want out of life is a 30 share and a 20 rating"
28 July 2002
This film is probably one of the best written screenplays ever put onto the screen. The fact that these characters never see how obsessed they are about ratings. The only sane person in this movie is Peter Finch's character, Walter Beale. Dunaway is absolutely stunning as the insane Diana, as well as William Holden's Max. Also probably one of the blackest comedies ever made, the ending is so ironic! And the acting is superb. Don't believe me- just look at Max's wife Louise and the speech she gives him. Beatrice Straight won an Oscar for only being on screen for 5 minutes! But the screenplay alone is what makes this film incredibly enjoyable! On my top 20 list.

I didn't stop laughing!!
12 April 2002
I think the longest I ever went without laughing was less than 2 minutes. This could easily be called as funny as Clerks, if not funnier. This and Clerks are now my favorites out of the 5 films that Smith made relating all characters together. If you have had a bad day and need to be cheered up, this movie will not fail to deliver. Non-stop laughs!!

Clerks (1994)
Probably one of the 5 funniest comedies of all time
8 April 2002
This movie would be on my top 5 funniest movies of all time list, simply because it is the single film that contains the most graphic and hilarious dialogue film has ever seen. You never stop laughing at Randal, especially when he is on the phone naming all the porn flicks. A cult film that will always be underestmated simply because not everyone in the world saw it when it first came out. But it's brilliant!! "People say crazy s*** during sex, one time I called this girl Mom". 15/10 (yes 15!!)

Mary Poppins (1964)
My all-time favorite Disney film!
27 March 2002
I have always been a kid at heart and have always and still love Disney. Julie Andrews absolutely glows in her Oscar-winning performance as the cheerful Mary Poppins. Her and Dick Van Dyke delight in every shine in every scene! I especially love Van Dyke's dance with the penguins. I now have the movie on DVD and still watch it at least once a week. My sisters love it too. How could you not love this charming story about a proper English nanny? It still delights after 38 years!

Best in Show (2000)
Very funny film
25 March 2002
Although I thought this film looked weird at first, I thought it was so funny. Guest portrays the film in a documentary-like setting, each person's story told one at a time. The funniest were Catherine O'Hara/Eugene Levy and Michael McKean/John Higgins. Fred Ward was hysterical as the Mayflower DJ. Enjoyable entertainment!

Six Feet Under (2001–2005)
One of the best shows on TV
11 January 2002
People who don't have HBO are missing out on one of the best new dramas on TV. It's as good as The Sopranos, and way better than those 4 s**** on Sex and the City. Everyone in the cast is great, and I especially enjoy Ruth, played by Frances Conroy. If you don't have HBO, get it!

Made (2001)
One of the worst movies I've ever seen
7 January 2002
What was this movie about? Within the first 10 minutes I didn't care. Vince Vaughn never shut up and I wanted to choke him to get him to shut up. I loved Swingers and thought that this would be equally funny. Jon Favreau made a guest appearance on The Sopranos and must have taken that experience and thrown this movie together, even Pussy and Adriana make guest appearances. How original!! Complete waste of time, rent something else.

Missed punch from the very beginning
2 January 2002
If you are going to make a biography about someone's life, have some emotion in it. And this film needed an editor too! So many details that did not need to be there. Go see Lord of the Rings instead. Hopefully, this movie will not be well awarded

I don't remember the last time drama was this hilarious..
21 December 2001
This was a drama? More like hysterical comedy that you didn't want to end. After a season of totally predictable, recycled junk, a breath of fresh air finally hit the theaters and it never felt better! Avoiding Lord of The Rings until the crowds die down, I had anticipated seeing this film after watching the trailer and it was everything I had hoped. An all-star cast, Gene Hackman's best role in years, Ben Stiller and his 2 sons in the same red Adidas jogging suit throughout the film (there are 2 scenes in which you do not see Stiller in the red suit) and Gywneth Paltrow chain smoking in every scene she is in, a habit which she has managed to hide from her family for 22 years. Truly clever and original, just watching the first 10 minutes is a treat by itself. Dysfunctional has never been funnier.

Wonder Boys (2000)
A funny, original movie with heart
8 December 2001
I was surprised that this movie was not nominated for more Oscars, including one for Robert Downey, Jr. who was very funny as Tripp's editor Crabtree. Michael Douglas has always been one of my favorite actors and he brought back to the screen what I feel that he does naturally: being laid back. I think every college student should watch this movie because it gives a good description of accepting who you are. I would call this a wonderful character movie, and those are the kind of films I love best. It was seriously underrated, and should have gotten more attention at the theatre than it did. I would give it my full rating of 5 stars simply for its originality and witty humor and of course the memorable characters. Finally original cinema, instead of all this recycled crap you see nowadays.
