Rise Of The Zombie is Compelling and Astonishing!!!
9 April 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Those who are unaware about the 'Zombie' term, It means animated corpse resurrected by mystical means such as Witchcraft. At least, This is what Wikipedia says. The 'Zombie' which we have been introduced with (Especially by the "West" culture) means 'Living-Dead'. Zombies doesn't behave like normal human being, As they are Half Dead and Half Alive. Zombies cannot eat normal food, As they eat all 'Living Ones'. Especially Humans, Animals and Insects. In short, A Zombie means 'Monster'.

Till date, You have witnessed Horror Films which has Woman in a White Saree who is a Spirit and she is out for a Revenge. But here's a Film called Rise Of The Zombie which takes Horror Genre into totally different level altogether. Authentically, Rise Of The Zombie is India's first-ever Zombie Genre film which the makers intent to make as a Zombie-Series-Trilogy. Rise Of The Zombie is a First-Part from the Zombie-Trilogy.

Let me also "Warn" you Rise Of The Zombie is not at all for Weak-Heart people.

Neil Parker (Luke Kenny) is a passionate wildlife photographer who pays more attention to his wildlife than his human life. As a result his relationships with the real world suffer. When his girlfriend Vinny (Kirti Kulhari) walks out on him, He resigns himself to isolation and nature. But a chance occurrence changes all that. While doing the Mother-Nature's photo-shoot, Neil get's bitten by something. Slowly story follow Neil's journey into a darkness that has to be seen to be believed. A monster that seems to be rising out of the depths of desolation and agony, soulless, depraved and out of control.

Luke Kenny has performed his part very Brilliantly. As an actor, He is well-aware when he has to go Natural and when he has to be Materialistic. Luke Kenny makes you believe the Pain, Sorrow and Thirst of a Monster thru his performance. Kirti Kulhari is another Mind-Blowing actress with her amazing acting skills. I fail to understand why Film makers ignore superb talent such as Kirti. Kindly note her in the first (Introductory) scene where she is upset and worried at the same time for the whereabouts of her lover. Ashwin Mushran and Benjamin Gilani are good in a small but Brief roles. Their role continues in the second part of the Trilogy (Of course).

Directors Devaki Singh and Luke Kenny both have chosen a very Complex-Horror script (Written by Devaki Singh) and made it in a very Compelling and Astonishing way. The first hour is little dragging at few points, But a special tap on the shoulders of DOP Murzy Pagdiwala who keeps you hooked to your seats with his masterpiece camera-work. Surprisingly, The film also has a wonderful musical score which gives you an International Feel. The Editing is tight and sharp. You might find lot of Silent Explanations in the scenes, But as i mentioned earlier, This one is the first part of Trilogy.

Rise Of The Zombie works for it's unique concept which speaks Fearlessly on the Big Screen. Hats off to makers Devaki Singh and Luke Kenny and the entire team for making us understand that Indian Horror has much more to offer.

Don't you 'Dare' miss this honest effort.

Jesus Christ Revisited...
24 August 2008
By hearing lots of controversial reviews about this film i thought to give it a try by watching it. I will frankly admit here that i am not a Big Fan of Mel Gibson movies . Frankly speaking, I was a little hesitant about the film maker Mel Gibson as i am very less familiar with his Acting Skills because i had very few of his work, Maybe one or two that includes Braveheart. But when i watched this movie, I now feel like getting this film in my personal collection which is now a MUST for me.

James Caviezel or Jim Caviezel (Jesus) is arrested and brought in front of the governor. Everyone wants him to be crucified. This is the story that is short but told in the format of a Feature Film. There are some scenes that you have NOT seen in any earlier Jesus Films till date. The scene where the Christ is tortured is an approximately 12 minutes footage that somewhere also gives a Believer a Pain! Performancewise, This film altogether belongs to the protagonist Jim Caviezel (Jesus). He comes up with a brilliant performance. Monica Bellucci was again a good cast in the movie. She hardly had any lines to speak but it was altogether a Performance Oriented part. Maia Morgenstern (Mary) also did her great part with a Brilliance. This kind of acting is sure to give you tears in your eyes. NOTE: The scene where Jesus fells down while carrying the Cross, And Mary runs to him to console. The background score was a plus in this movie. It really scares and makes you emotional at the same time.

As i wrote earlier, I was a little hesitant by the film maker on this movie, But i am very glad to say that the Film Maker proved me wrong here. Mel Gibson (Who is also the Screen writer) handled this script in a very brilliant way. The cinematography and the Special Effects added feather to Mel's cap. I will go ahead and strongly recommend this movie to Christ Film Lover as it stands up to all the expectations!!!

Worth Watching... Anytime! But Please Ignore Archie Panjabi!!
12 August 2008
Warning: Spoilers
We have heard about the 'Senseless Murder' of Daniel Pearl. We have read about it and some of us have also seen the Beheaded Footage on the Internet. But A Mighty Heart goes a little beyond that. This film takes you on an actual journey at those events that were untold or purposely ignored. The film is Majorly Shot on one location (Pakistan). And it tells you about what happened when Daniel Pearl wanted to interview Moulana Sheikh Jilani.

The film has some Extra Ordinary performances by Angelina Jolie (Mariane Pearl), Irfan Khan (Captain) and of course Aly Khan (Omar Saeed Sheikh). The only Bad Point in the movie was Archie Panjabi (Asra Q Nomani). I really have no idea why the Film Maker wanted to cast an Actress who could neither perform nor act. Please note her in the scenes where she spoke (Or Tried To) Urdu. The accent and her way was so Pathetic that even a small child can make out that she is just reading the script! Archie Panjabi is one such actress that brings this whole film in a Bad Light. I though the character of Asra Nomani was very important diamond in this Jewel. But Archie with her worst performance ruins this box of Jewellery.

Watch out for a very small but the most powerful performance of Aly Khan (Omar Saeed) in the movie. This Indian Actor brings life to the character of Omar Saeed. I have see Omar and when i saw Aly Khan performing this part, I said to myself that is this for real? Irfan Khan (Captain) again an Indian Actor has equal footage with Angelina in the film and does his part very well. You will also remember Dan Futterman (Daniel Pearl).

The film was shot on HD and the camera-work was really good. The script and the narration was tight. Those who have read the book my find some important chapters not shown in the film. But i guess that would have been very controversial. Those who also think that Daniel Pearl's beheaded footage is shown in this movie! I am sorry guys! Please drop your hopes. This film really didn't needed it.

I will also request very strongly to also look out for a Documentary Title much similar to A Mighty Heart which is called The Journalist And The Jihadi!

Hitler... Revealed
12 August 2008
I think what i enjoyed the most in this movie was some Splendid Performances by the Players. This is of course a TV Movie but it does not gives the feeling of a regular Television Movies at all. Especially for it's amazing Narration and Cinematography.

You have to sit tight for the performance of Robert Carlyle who plays Adolf Hitler. I must also confess that i did not find him Devilish at all. Or maybe the Film Maker tried to show him a Revolutionary. The anger for 'Jews' in the character Hitler looked very real. I started believing that it was actually not Robert Carlyle but Adfolf Hitler on my screen. The second performance you have to look forward is of Liev Schreiber (Ernst Hanfstaengl). A very settled and Under Played part that makes you feel that you are watching a Legend Performing. And last but not the least, Julliana Margulies (Helene Hanfstaengl) i think is one of the best calculative and frustrated woman i have ever seen on screen. Someimes, She also gave me a feeling that she is a Hard Core Adolf's follower.

The film is a little longer than i expected. But still the Fast Narration keeps you tight on the edge. Frankly speaking, I never heard that Adolf Hitler had a bad eye on his niece. This was something new to me or maybe re created to show Adolf's cruelty. But i ask myself that if Adolf Hitler called himself an Artist, A Revolutionary and A True German, How can he be so immature regarding relations? The story structure and narration are the PLUS points in the film that keeps you engage despite of a Long Movie Journey. The camera work of the film is JUST breath taking and has some stunning visuals attached. The editing strictly follows the story journey again and was required a little.

I will strongly recommend this movie to all the people who would like to know the Rise of the Evil as the tag line says. Worth watching especially for the Performances and Performers attached to this Movie!

Bad Film... With Bad Performances...
28 July 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I rented this film from my Library. I watched it and thought that i was the biggest fool to rent this film. Someone said it pretty right... If you watch a Bad Film, It is hard to sit through 91 Minutes (Scarlet Diva's Duration) that are about to pass...

Actually Asia Argento according to me was Frustrated to make another GIA. But as they say, Classics are never repeated. Scarlet Diva of course got some Critical Acclaims from some small Film Festivals. But again, Getting acclaims from small Film Festivals are the easiest thing nowadays. Even the small Film Festival organizers very well know that you need a Distribution. I really have no idea how come people get ready to FUND such kinds of movies in first place. Do they really thought they were making another GIA? Please guys grow up! I am so sorry that i do not have GUTS to recommend this film to anybody here because this is a BAD film. Please also don't go on the Good Comments here because i think it was created. If this film was really a good film then how come this film was left behind by Major Distributors? The film is a really Bad Film... With some really Bad Performances (Especially by Asia Argento) as the cherry on the cake...

Please watch it with a strip of 'Asprin' with you!

A True Psycho Horror
8 July 2008
I have heard lots of good reviews about this film so i thought to give it a try by renting it. I was also very sure about John Cusack's performance skill and Samuel Jackson was also a part of this movie. Frankly speaking, I was a little hesitant about the film maker Mikael Hafstrom because i had seen his movie Derailed. But when i watched this movie, I now feel like getting this film in my personal collection.

John Cusack is a novelist who is famous for writing in spooky genre. We see him also going to various Haunted Hotels and researching on Paranormal Activities. Till he gets an anonymous 'Challenged' invitation to enter Dolphin Hotel that is located on the busy streets of New York and to stay in the room 1408. The curiosity brings Cusack to the hotel and there he meets up with the manager Samuel Jackson. Despite of several warnings, Cusack lands up in the room 1408 and what happens with him in the room is the rest of the film. This film has now made me scared to live in a Hotel Room. I mean in the coming future, If i check into any hotel, This movie will always be on my mind scaring the hell out of me.

Performancewise, This film altogether belongs to the protagonist John Cusack. He comes up with Yet Another awesome performance. In fact this performance was according to me, His most awaited one. Samuel Jackson has hardly a role that doesn't last for more than 15 minutes. But Samuel still performed very well. The background score was a plus in this movie. It really scares you.

As i wrote earlier, I was a little hesitant by the film maker on this movie, But i am very glad to say that the Film Maker proved me wrong here. Mikael handled this script in a very brilliant way. The cinematography and the Special Effects added feather to Mikael's cap. I will go ahead and strongly recommend this movie to any Psycho Horror lover as it stands up to all the expectations!!!

The Hollywood Mom's Mystery (2004 TV Movie)

A Good-Tight Mystery Thriller
9 May 2008
I had nothing to do but was just scrolling the TV Channels on my Television last night and suddenly came across this Film screening on Hallmark Channel (India). I stopped right there because i was watching few glimpses of my favorite actress Angie Everhart and in those glimpses i also happened to see few other beautiful women talking something spicy...

I went ahead with this film and witnessed that Julia (Angie Everhart) get's murdered in the Swimming Pool of Lucy (Justine Bateman) and Lucy's husband Kit (Andrew McCarthy) is framed for the murder. Kit once had an affair with Julia and Lucy knows about it. Julia was a neighbor to this family. Kit is a Film Producer and Julia's husband Woody Prentice (George Hammilton) is a Sitcom Star Icon. If Lucy wants to clear the name of her husband from this murder, She herself has to Trace Down the real killer behind Julia's murder.

Now, This looks like a Heard-Story-Before but those who have not seen this film has to see it to believe it that how well this film is handled. The camera work and screenplay is itself so tight that it keeps you engaged and guessing till the last minutes. The film travels through the narration of Lucy (Justine Bateman) and from her point of view, You see the whole film. I don't think that this film was a Theatrical Release because it was made for TV.

Performancewise, It is Justine Bateman who steals the show and carries the film on her shoulders. Another performance to look forward to in this movie is of Homicide Detective Theresa Shoe (Elizabeth Pena) which was Humorous and Under-played as well. Overall! A good film to watch at any time...

An OK Film And That's It...
15 April 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Okay guys! Let's point out some real Flaws in the film for a while that cannot be ignored. I have read so many comments here that goes on and says that this is a Master Piece... A Classic etc. I finally saw the film in a Cinema Hall in India. And here's what i have to say on this.

The first half was too dragging at points. Especially Iman Ali's(Mary/Maryam) track. I really have no idea why was this track necessary in the film? Haven't we already seen this story earlier in Namaste London and Escape From Taliban? The other track Fawad Khan (Sarmad) and the Evil Priest Rasheed Naz (Moulana Tahiri) is about a Priest brain washing a Musician was worth a watch and especially for the performance by Rasheed Naz who did his part brilliantly. The third and the final track of Shan (Mansoor) is about a Muslim Pakistani caught in the web of FBI during the WTC attacks was again a Brilliant Track to see. Shan was the only actor in this whole film who did his job very well and acted like a Legend. Naseeruddin Shah has hardly a 7 minutes role in the film that has some long speech and that's about it.

Now let's face the Technical Side of the film. Shoaib Mansoor the director of this film may be a good story teller but i am so sorry he is equally a Bad Technician. The camera work was good but only in the scenes of Afghanistan. Rest it was functional. The editing could have been a little tight rather then going slow in most of the places. Please don't go on the International Reviews because they don't understand the Language Barrier. This is truly NOT a Master Piece (As it's mentioned many times here by other commenter's) in any case.

The only saving graces in this film are Shan, Music and Rasheed Naz...

Please! Shoaib Mansoor, Next time you make a film... Please choose Good Actors...

Trust Me, You Don't Wanna Watch This!
9 January 2008
Warning: Spoilers
This film was released in Indian Cinema halls here in India. One of my friends suggested me this film and i went to watch this piece of Garbage. The film starts with a good premise and ends up going nowhere.

David Fox (Luke Wilson) and Amy Fox (Kate Beckinsale) are couples who gets trapped in this motel where the owner has fixed a camera in every room. He kills people and makes Sadistic Films out of it and sells. The start of the film is very promising. But later when the film proceeds, You start to imagine what will happen in the next minutes. I am sorry but i will not call this a Thriller. A thriller is supposed to give you Joilts. And this one doesn't. I will also not agree with the other commenter's on this board. I think the other commenter's here hasn't seen much of Thrillers. This is a typical straight B Grade slasher that neither entertains nor gives any Shock Value. It still doesn't matter if it's a B Grade Slasher (Which this film tries to be) but there should be some kind of Excitement in it?? I have seen some very good Independent B Grade Slashers... I wish i had not seen this film.

I wonder how actors such as Luke Wilson and Kate Beckinsale agreed to work in such kinds of films. There are so many other Thrillers that can be watched but not this one. The Film Maker Nimrod Antal could've easily made this film more gripping. But given a Bad Script, What can a Film Maker do? If you think that you are about to watch a Hard Core thriller by watching this film. I will suggest it's better to stay away!

When It Was Happening... Where Were You???
4 January 2008
Eleven different Film Makers from different parts of the world are assembled in this film to present their views and ideas about the WTC attack. This is one of the best effort you will see in any Film. Films like this are rarely made and appreciated. This film tries to touch every possible core of WTC. Here are some of the most important stories from the film that makes this film so unique.

There is the story from Samira Makhmalbaf (Iran) where somewhere in Iran people are preparing for the attacks from America. There a teacher is trying to educate her students by informing them about Innocent People being killed in WTC massacre. Then comes a story from Youssef Chahine (Egypt) where a Film Maker comes across face-to-face conversation with a Dead Soldier in the WTC attack and a Dead Hard Core Terrorist who was involved in WTC attack. Then we see a story from Idrissa Ouedraogo (Burkina Faso) where a group of Five Innocent children's sees Osama Bin Laden and plans to kidnap him and win the reward money from America. Then we see the story from Alejandro Gozalez Inarritu (Mexico) where you see a Black Screen and slowly you see the real footage of WTC buildings coming down. And the people who are stuck in the building are jumping out of it to save their lives. The other most important story is from Mira Nair (India) where a mother is struggling to get respect for her Dead Son whose name is falsely trapped in WTC massacre! After September 11 attack, Our heart beat automatically starts pumping if we hear two names anywhere in the world.. First is World Trade Centre and the second is Osama! This film totally changes our perception and makes a strong point by claiming something more to it.

I will definitely recommend this movie to everyone who loves to have such kinds of Home DVD Collection. Definitely worth every penny you spend. But please don't expect anything more apart from Films in this DVD. There is of course Filmographies of the Film Makers but No Extra Features.

Gia (1998 TV Movie)

A Very Brilliant Work Of Art!
4 January 2008
Gia is a film that is very hard to make. And once if such kinds of films are properly made, It is something to die for...

It is based on a True Story about Famous Model GIA who died of HIV. It is a journey of a Super Model that is narrated and told in a way that it makes you feel witness to her life. The story narration of the film is so gripping that it actually makes you Sit Tight and watch. The film is narrated through her Mother, Friends, Co-Workers, And some close people who knew her. No doubt that Gia was a Controversial Model but somewhere inside, She was also a Kid too.

From the Performance Part, Trust me i have started worshiping actress Angelina Jolie for the way that she had performed in this film. Earlier i never used to like this actress because for the simple reason that i had never seen this Masterpiece. But after watching GIA, I can say that no actress is so talented as Angelina Jolie. She makes you believe that it is only her who could have brought GIA live! The scene where GIA dies will definitely bring tears to your eyes. The pain that GIA goes through was also very powerfully executed by the actress.

The camera work of this film is just brilliant. The DP has played with colors and darkness equally. The camera work moves through the Script and the Performance. Hats Off! To the film maker who chose such a wonderful film and made it into Masterpiece. These are some of the films that you MUST watch before you DIE!!

Winner All The Way!!
25 December 2007
Kabir Khan (Shah Rukh Khan) is a Hockey Player and the captain for Indian Hockey Team. The team is playing final against Pakistan Hockey Team. The Indian Team loses the match and Kabir Khan is mis-understood for this by Press and Media. Kabir Khan is stated as the Traitor and is expelled from the team.

Seven years later Kabir Khan again gets an opportunity to be a part of Indian Sports. But this time, He has to Coach and take the Indian Hockey Women Team to the World Cup which is next to impossible. But Kabir Khan takes on this mission for two reasons. The first reason is to prove everyone wrong who thought him to be the Traitor, And the second reason is that Kabir Khan wants to make the impossible into possible.

The story telling and direction of the film is just simply superb. The cinematography is awesome. Music of the film is again very motivating and moves with the script. The editing part is very crispy and does not make a bore view. This shows that if a film is being made with decent intentions, It is widely appreciated.

Performance wise it is Shah Rukh Khan who steals the show and dominates the film. Being a Super Star Shah Rukh could have easily asked for a small Flash Back with an actress opposite him. But he did not, He knows that the script is the real hero of the film and he goes on and blends with the character that he plays. Model Vidya Malwade proves in this film that she is also a better actress. She has performed her part very well. Shilpa Shukla who plays Bindiya Naik was earlier seen in Khamosh Pani. Shilpa plays the villain in the movie. The best villain is the villain whom you hate to see. And Shilpa has fully lived up to this fact. There's a line in the film where Shah Rukh says to Shilpa "Is Team Mien Sirf Ek Hi Gunda Reh Sakta Hai, Aur Is Team ka Gunda Main Hoon".

The film entertains and as well as Provocates you in every aspect. This one is a Sure Winner!!

Cheeni Kum (2007)

More Sugar Please!!
25 December 2007
R Balki tries to tell you a story that had been earlier told by Ram Gopal Verma in Nishabd in a sensuous way. This time it is mixed with mature humors.

Amitabh Bachchan is a Chef and owns an Indian Cuisine in London. He is very dominating and arrogant and respects his job just like any other job. According to him, Cooking is an art. Still cannot make Hyderabadi Biryani properly.

Enter Tabu who sends her the proper Hyderabadi Biryani made by her and they soon starts meeting up and finally falls in love with each other… Amitabh is 65 and Tabu is 35…. No probs! But one Hitch! Tabu's father Paresh Rawal!! The couples decide to meet the father for the approval of their marriage. But Amitabh realizes that Tabu's father is much younger to him. And the complications begin… Performance wise all three actors are brilliant. The script of the film is very tight and interesting. The dialogues of the film are catchy. But somewhere you feel that your stomach is not properly filled. The comedy is sometimes not properly understood. The film also tries to go lengthy at some parts.

Musically nothing much to sing about except the Title Track. The camera-work is good. Director R Balki could have given much better from this script. But in the second half he himself looks confused. The "Satyagrah" scene of the father looked irritating. But the lines spoken by Amitabh Bachchan during that scene are clap worthy.

On the whole, Cheeni Kum needed to have more sugar!

Om Shanti Om (2007)
7/10
Just Fantastic!!!
25 December 2007
If you sit to watch a typical Bollywood Commercial masala movie, Leave your brains behind. Om Shanti Om is one such film that entertains you in every aspect.

Om Shanti Om is the story of the Indian Film World. It is the story of a Junior Artist (Extra) Om Prakash Makhija (Shah Rukh Khan) who dreams to become a superstar one day. He is madly in love with Shanti Priya (Deepika Podukone) who is a super star and she is in love with a film producer Mukesh Ahuja (Arjun Rampal). Mukesh after learning this fact that Shanti is pregnant with his child and his most ambitious project will come to hold if he marries her, He kills her. This whole event is witnessed by Shanti's good friend and her secret lover Om. Even Om dies in that tragic accident while trying to save Shanti. Mukesh runs to Hollywood and get's married there a multi-millionaire's daughter.

But destiny has a total different story to tell… Om is reborn again after 30 years as a Super Star Om Kapoor (Shah Rukh Khan) and the destiny makes om meets Sandy (Deepika Podukone) who is a look alike of Shanti Priya. Om and Sandy make a plan to trap Mukesh who comes back to India after 30 years to make a film with Om. The evil get's punished and the truth wins forms the rest of the film.

Technically the film is just brilliant. It shows on the screen the amount of money that has been spent into the making. The sets are glossy and breath taking. The camera work is just superb. The editing is fantastic and crispy. Musically a very decent and a good effort. Especially the song where all the 31 stars perform is a treat to watch for. The story and direction by Farah Khan is very good.

Performance wise the film belongs to King Khan Shah Rukh Khan all the way. New girl Deepika Podukone is the next superstar. It did not seem at all that she is a new actress and this is her First Film. Arjun Rampal was awesome in the negative role. Kirron Kher was really good once again. Shreyas Talpade was again very good. He gets an equal footage with Shah Rukh to perform.

For those who go for Artistic Cinema, This film is strictly not for them. But those who need Full Time Pass, Om Shanti Om is the real good choice. Here the Film Maker is trying to fool you, But in return they are offering you a Glossy Dream of 2 hours. So if you are looking for a Roller Coaster ride of Entertainment, Go for Om Shanti Om!

Johnny G... Traitor... Or Winner??
25 December 2007
Warning: Spoilers
If you are a Hard Core Thriller lover, Johnny Gaddar is for you! If you are a James Hadley Chase or Alfred Hitchcock Fan, Johnny Gaddar is your cup of tea! If you like to enjoy Edge of your Seat ride, Go for Johnny Gaddar! This is the group of Five Men, Whose fingers are in Legal and Not-So-Legal activities. The film starts with one of the Group Member Seshadri (Dharmendra) gets an offer to make fortune in four days. All the other members want this deal to materialize because this deal will take them to a Big Level. They make a plan to make this deal happen.

The youngest member of this group Vikram (Neil Nitin Mukesh) has his own secret and deadly plan to rob the money and disappear to another country with his lady love (Rimmi). Not everything comes easy in life they say. Vikram never knew that to execute his secret plans, He has to cross the pool of blood! He has to kill rest of the group members one by one! The story of the film may sound a routine genre to all. But trust me! The film is executed in a brilliant way. Script wise the film is so tight that it keeps you to the edge. Direction wise the film is genuine and breath taking. The camera work is of first rate. Musically awesome and foot tapping at the same time. Watch out for the Back Ground score that deserve a special tap. The Film Maker has taken references from the classics like Johnny Mera Naam and Parwana. The film itself opens with a dedication card in the titles saying that this film is dedicated to Thriller Maestros like Alfred Hitchcock and Vijay Anand.

The Film Maker Sriram Raghavan tries to create an atmosphere of 70s classic Thriller Era through this film. But somewhere in the end, You crave for something more. Maybe some shock in the end, Maybe not a Negative Ending.

Performance wise Neil Nitin Mukesh is a good actor but still needs to polish his acting skills. Rimmi does not have much scope to perform. I think that the Film Maker should have given a turn to the script by showing Rimmi as the planner or something like it. Dharmendra acts like a Legend. Vinay Pathak is good with his decent part. Zakir Hussain again shows his caliber of acting and grows with the character. Govind Namdeo has a small but a decent role and he performs it very well. Ashwini Kalsekar again has a decent part and she is a pure Show Stealer.

Yes! The film did needed a Different Ending somehow, It leaves a Negative Viberations in the End...

Not as good as A History Of Violence
25 December 2007
Eastern Promises is the film that i saw recently on DVD. Just keeping this fact in my mind that i am about to watch the same Film Maker's movie who gave Controversial Gripping films such as Crash and A History Of Violence. We also have Critically Appreciated and Acclaimed actors like Naomi Watts, Viggo Mortenson and Vincent Cassel.

The film opens in London with a 14 year old girl who is a Prostitute gives birth to a Baby Girl and dies. She dies in the presence of a Hospital Midwife (Naomi Watts). Naomi finds her diary which was written by this 14 year old girl who was Russian. In that diary some unwanted Truths about the underground London mafia is disclosed. Naomi knocks the door of underground mafia and meets up with Nicolai (Viggo Mortenson) who is a driver and works closely with Mafia Lord's son Kirril (Vincent Cassel). Nicolai has his own problems in this underground crime world. Viggo and Naomi tries to get closer and it is witnessed that one diary can lead to Murder, Betrayal and Double Crossing the loved ones.

In my opinion i think it is wrongly said or quoted to Not-To-Expect a Film Maker's past credentials in his new movie. I am sorry but i will not agree to this. Because if Steven Spielberg makes Jurassic Park (1), And we hear that after a year or two from the success of Jurassic Park (1) we are about to see Jurassic Park (2), We will definitely expect something extra ordinary from the maker.

But here somewhere David Cronenberg disappoints, Not because the film has a Slow Pace and it is too lengthy. But because you have worshiped his past film A History Of Violence and this time you get to see a film that sounds a bit repetitive and a little cold. A History Of Violence was a Hard Hitting film. But here we have a an Emotionally Charged drama publicized as a Hard Hitting film.

Agreed! Drugs, Mafia's and Muders (I mean Brutal Murders). But haven't we seen this earlier in films? The only track that sounds new in this film is about a 14 year old Innocent Russian girl forced into Mafia Prostitution. This particular track has been sentenced by Naomi Watts in this film umpteen times and one stars getting bored. No! I seriously don't think that this film is a Master's DVD Collectors item.

This film is just watchable once and that is it!

Sivaji (2007)
10/10
Excellent!!! 'superstar' Rajinikanth All The Way!!
15 June 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Sivaji starts on with Superstar Rajinikanth (Sivaji) in jail. Sivaji goes in his flashback and there we witness that sivaji comes from America to chennai for business. He makes a plan of making a Medical Institute for Open Heart Surgery for poor people who cannot afford High Amount for the surgery. But the Evil (Suman) doesn't approve it. Instead of making this institute one should better make Shopping Malls and Multiplexes is what he believes.

Sivaji proceeds with his plans and stopped by Anti Social Elements. A typical Director Shankar's characters such as Curropt Ministers, Curroupt Officors etc. Suman with the help of the corrupt system makes sivaji poor. But sivaji bounces back with his new plan of Exposing those Curroupt people by their unofficial hidden black money and illegal documents and plays his games of getting the black money to his US Account and turning it into donation and continue making the Medical Institute for poor.

The camera work is just brilliant. Director Shankar once again proves that he is much much much higher than any other Indian Film Maker in Film Making. Musically the film is awesome!! A R Rahman does it again. The sets (Totta Tharani) speaks the amount of money that has gone into. Till date this film is Asia's Most Expensive Film. Approximate budget of Indian Rupees 150 Crores!!! Performancewise Super Star Rajinikanth is just Brilliant!! An out and out show stealer. Shriya does not matches the superstar's caliber but still she is good. Vivek is good too. Suman is very good as the evil. Raghuvaran has just 4 scenes to perform but comes good as a surprise!! The film has it all!! Superstar Rajinikanth and Director Shankar creates magic on the screen!! A film that is not to be missed at any cost!! Bravo!!!

Garmento (2002)

Awesome!!!
27 September 2006
When i saw this film i personally thought that this movie is one of the best film to come on the screen. The narration of the story especially was fantastic. Michele Maher deserves a TAP on her shoulders for making such a brave and beautiful cinema.

The opening scene where young Grindy (Katie MacNichole) cuts the LOGO of PONCHO jeans and sticks it to her cheap denim and looks herself in the mirror is just superb. Performancewise Katie MacNichole lives her role. She should've been more materialistic though but i guess that's what the script demanded. David Thornton in the role of Rony is just Awesome. He looks cute and refreshing. His acting capabilities reminds me of Sean Penn. Rest other cast in film is equally good and brilliant. Of course the film had some bold performances ever seen.

The camera work of the film is very good. The music of the film is good and does NOT disturbs the narration and the grip of the film. Here's where the victory of Michele Maher is where despite of a DRAMA genre the film keeps you tight and gripping throughout. Somehow i also did not digest the climax at some point. But that was alright. Rest of the film was just fantastic. Being a Film Maker myself i think that every scene of this movie shows the hard work of the Film maker and the cast that went in the making of this film.

A film that is NOT to be MISSED at any cost.

Silent Waters (2003)

A Work Of Art
31 August 2006
Khamosh Pani a.k.a Silent Waters (Urdu/Punjabi-English Subtitles) is an extra-ordinary feature film i've ever seen till date. It is totally belongs to Sabiha Sumar all the way. In short it is totally a Director's Film. Every scene of this film shows and portrays the hard work gone into it.

Every actor in this film performs very well. Especially Kirron Kher & Amir Mallik steals the show.

I think this film is a treat to watch. Every frame of this film has something to say and discuss. A truly learning cinema. Sabiha Sumar gives a work of Masterpiece in her debut. Kudos to the film maker for revealing such a beautiful cinema!!!

Amores Perros (2000)

Simply Superb!
28 August 2006
The more i see Amores Perros on DVD (I am proud to make this DVD as my private collection) the more i am moved by the director's work. The film maker is so honest in his film making. I think it takes a lot to give such a BRILLIANT cinema. This film tells three different story at the same time. Past, Present and Future is the judgment running in all the three tales.

The performances are very natural and awesome at the same time. Gael Garcia is the best amongst all. Vanessa Bauche is also good. The camera work and technical aspects will be remembered through this film always, As they give a noticing turn to Cinema History. This film is according to me the years best reviewed film.

This film MUST be kept in the film making museum (If Exists) so that different film makers learns different things and levels of film making. A film that is a Classic. And Classics are never RE CREATED. Be it 21 Grams OR Babel (Of course i've not seen BABEL yet).
