A Christmas Carol (2019)
Excellent re-telling
This is an incredibly dark and chilling re-telling of the Christmas classic. I don't understand why people need to bring up the fact it's not for kids. Not everything needs to be for kids! It's a GHOST story. If you want something for your kids, watch the Muppet one. If you're a purist who can't see past Alastair Sim, watch Alastair Sim.
The last thing we needed was yet another rehash of the same thing so I'm really glad the creators made something new and explained Scrooge's hatred for Christmas (and Mary Cratchett's hatred for Scrooge!) Brilliantly cast, expertly acted and my new Christmas favourite for a dark night!
Jojo Rabbit (2019)
New favourite
It makes you laugh and makes you weep.
Excellent casting, beautifully shot.....watch this movie, it ROCKS.
Mystery Men (1999)
Disco is NOT dead.
One of my favourites and so quotable!
Inspired by all superhero movie clichés, Mystery Men is one of the most underrated good vs evil movies ever.
It's witty, serious at times, campy at times and has real heart. Even though some of the group's powers are supernatural, the relationship and chemistry between the characters is so believable and realistic (and the casting is just perfection) that you genuinely care for them all.
Psycho Goreman (2020)
Worst movie I've seen in a while
I'll acknowledge this film was supposed to be campy, over-acted and cheesy. I get it.
But it was embarrassing to watch. I couldn't bear a single second that main character girl was on screen.
The only reason I'm giving this a 2 and not a minus review is for their use of practical effects. That was cool.
But unfortunately, there wasn't enough of it to make this utter garbage watchable.
Spooky House (2001)
It's a kid's movie, get over it
So many reviews on here are talking about the predictable plot and the goofiness and the silliness of it, blah blah blah. I had the video of this movie as a kid and LOVED it. Because I loved it so much as a kid I continue to speak highly of it.
I saw one person on here saying it's not a good family film because they watched it with their parents and they didn't like it...yet they were old enough to be writing an IMDB review?
Watch it with your KIDS. It is a great film for KIDS. Adults who watch this film as KIDS really enjoy it.
I personally give it an 8 because there is some poor acting courtesy of the child actors, but you don't notice these things when you're a KID yourself.
Cats (2019)
A big middle finger to the musical
As a life-long fan of the Webber musical I was actually quite excited at the announcement of the movie.
If anything, it made me appreciate the musical even more. People in tight suits with whiskers painted on their face will forever be more convincing than this furry nightmare.
Also...Judi Dench can't sing. Love her, but whoever chose to cast her in a musical should be fired. Along with anyone else who allowed this movie onto screens.
Be Kind Rewind (2008)
Patchy
Every scene where they are remaking the old movies is great. It's really entertaining especially if you know the movies well enough to know what they're trying to recreate. Definitely Alien Autopsy vibes. Wish there was more of it though.
Everything else is filler.
They introduce the character Alma for pretty much no reason. She adds nothing to the story, you don't care about her at all, and they attempt a kind of half-baked love story which was unlikely and unnecessary.
Ending was OK. Like the idea that the community came together in the end but from what I picked up from it, the main characters were still needing to move to the projects...which is what they were fighting against...rendering the whole Fats Waller movie-making a bit pointless.
Behind Her Eyes (2021)
I mean......yeah...
Entertaining enough to keep your interest.
But it goes a bit supernatural and it cheapens it I think. Wouldn't recommend, but that's not to say it's bad. It's just kind of blah.
Bad Ben (2016)
Wanted it to be bad...but proved otherwise
Went on the hunt for a low-budget, terrible horror movie to laugh at. This was actually a disappointment.
Very tense, interesting watching...far better than anticipated
Tenet (2020)
Tough, but awesome
Don't attempt to watch it without subtitles!!
The dialogue is difficult to hear at times and there is so much going on you really need the subtitles to help you along a bit. If you dedicate a couple of watches, you will start to appreciate the mind bending genius around it all. Or, if you don't have much confidence in your intelligence, turn the volume right up and just appreciate the visuals. They crash a plane into a building for christsake!
Låt den rätte komma in (2008)
A horror that makes you care!
I have just watched this again after 10 years. This is such a good movie. One of the few modern horrors that actually make you CARE about the main characters. Don't expect non stop action, murder and gore. It's not that kind of movie. It's dark, quiet and tense. Highly highly recommended. (Just forgive the very dated CGI cats in one scene)
