The Seed (2021)
Funny, dark and trippy
I saw this film last Friday night at fright fest. It funny, it's dark and trippy and great to see someone championing practical effects again. It also seems to be saying that social media is a weird sexy armadillo that has come from space to rape us. Which is hilarious and also probably quite accurate. The acting was solid throughout and despite a few moments where you sort of felt the budget it was a crazy ride. I love horror films but as a fan the reality is that these days the genre is full of stock plots where you can see what's coming a mile off, but you will never see what's coming next with this. Body horror, old school practical effects and a scene involving eggs which made my the lady next to me say Jesus Christ quite loud. Perhaps not for everyone but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Apparently it's coming out on Shudder at some point so good for them for supporting interesting talent like this.
Bad Lieutenant (1992)
one of a kind mini masterpiece.
What I love most about this film is the redemptive through line.
The Bad L starts out as a drug addict cop on a downward spiral but somehow manages to redeem himself through an act of very messed up compassion. Completely unexpected yet making total sense the final scenes leave you permanently damaged in the best way
The opening scene is funny as hell, it's got a great heart beat with the constant world series games that keep the movie ticking over while allowing from some truly insane and mind mangling set pieces.
Shot fast and loose and featuring possibly Harvey Keitel best ever performance the film is a one of a kind mini masterpiece.
Watch it alone. Watch it with your kids. Watch it with the pope.
Just watch it - again and again and again.
Baby Driver (2017)
the kid cant dance.
This is the first movie I have ever seen that actively promotes the benefits of the penal experience. It's a film that says do your time like a good boy and all will be fine and dandy. The movie is the first pro 'The Man' movie in history. It was probably made part funded the CIA. Also the kid cant dance.
Eraserhead (1977)
Your god damn right it is.
Lynch's first film, years in the making.
His father and brother told him to quit messing with maggots and
get a real job. He had a little cry and finished the movie.
Thank god for that because it launched a career that has broken boundaries
and minds all around the globe. The creature is magnificently weird and
the music is bananas. In heaven everything is fine. Your god damn right it is.
The Thing (1982)
Horror sci fi master piece.
Horror sci fi master piece.
The original is great, but this is a whole different beast.
Great cast, synth horror music and an alcoholic ant hero who dies in the snow. What more do you need.
