Someone needs psychological help
12 January 2009
Okay, I was bored last night and flipped through the movie channels. Why on this earth I settled on this one is beyond my imagination. But I watched anyway as nothing else was on.

This is by far one of the most disturbing movies I have ever seen. Cutting peoples heads off, blood baths, yielding chain saws in the faces of others? Doing the Lorena Bobbitt thing? Eating people alive? Little kids beating on people with sticks? I understand horror movies are made and exist and know I could have "changed the channel". However, this was no horror anything but the work of a sick mind. Who can enjoy something such as this? Whomever brought this together needs therapy and fast. Who wants to watch torture? What does anyone get out of it? What did anyone get out of this whole thing for that matter? Please, those who created this mess, please seek professional help. This is not a horror movie but the work of a sadistic mind.....

Absolutely Fabulous (1992–2012)
This show is Fabooo.....sweetie!
20 August 2005
OMG! I am loving this! Loving it loving it! This was recommended to me by someone online and I checked it out via DVD. I cannot STOP laughing. These women are INSANE! But a crazy fun and good insane! I feel for Eddies poor daughter, so quiet and straight laced and these two ladies drive her bonkers. It makes you wonder if the daughter is parenting her mother? You cannot take these two women to a grocery store or the bathroom without them making some sort of scene. The thing I wonder....do they EVER make it to the Betty Ford Clinic? This beats the reality television crap that we have here in America, that is for sure!Eddie......Pats.....get thee to America and keep us entertained sweeties!

Calendar Girl (1993)
This is kinda stupid but good too......
22 March 2005
I have seen this as it has been on HBO non stop lately. I think the writing and acting is good. It seems innocent enough. However, it seems a little strange as well. It is about three boys who worship Marilyn Monroe and even keep pictures of her in the "Holy Bible." They take a road trip to go meet Marilyn and continue to bother her at home until one gets a date with her. Seems like they had a little too much time on their hands. I have advice for the three boys: grab a dictionary and look up the word "pathetic." I give it a 6 out of 10. Could have done without the stalking stuff as that is what made it strange to me. Otherwise, it was pretty good.

Saved! (2004)
The Hilary Faye's of the world is what run's non-believers off!
19 March 2005
I rented this movie and I must say, this is by far one of the best to show Christianity and "Christianity". I have met so many Hilary Faye's and seen so many non-believers turned off and believe that all Christian's are like Hilary Faye. Newsflash.....not all Christians are like Hilary Faye and no, Christianity is not black and white. GOD loves everyone and despite what they do, HE STILL loves them! Sometimes, we have to ask, WWJD? I know he would not abandon a pregnant teen, want people to destroy the reputation of a gay teen and set people up with graffiti because they have "sinned." Let's face it, everyone is human and whether anyone likes it or not, we are going to sin. The important thing to remember is that GOD loves us all. This was a good movie. I highly recommend it.

9½ Weeks (1986)
Once upon a time, I was not old enough to see this.......
28 December 2004
This came out when I was in high school. I remember they carded EVERYONE at the door of the theatre and as I was not "18" I could not get in to see it...DRATS! However, thanks to the birth of the VHS and Blockbuster Video, I was able to rent it the following summer. I remember myself and a group of friends rented it out of teen curiosity and well, because we could. Some of us had turned "18" by then and someone's parents were away for the weekend so...well....we did and for kicks......heck YEAH we were curious!! I remember everyone going "OMG! They did THIS??" and "OMG! He did THAT and SHE LET HIM?" As the under agers we were, we watched and drank wine coolers and could not BELIEVE that this movie existed and we got our hot little hands on a copy! This movie made such a stink and raised "sexual awareness" up another notch. It was good, full of forbidden sex and drama and quite an eye opener to anyone under the age of 21 and starved for a taste of freedom. Mickey Rourke was hot; no argument on that one! If this were to premiere today, chances are that it would be rated "PG13" and the kids would not be going "OMG! THEY DID THIS???" I look at this now and think "OMG! I cannot BELIEVE how naive, young and stupid I was to think that this was such a big deal!!!" More like small potatoes now in my eyes. If you are hot for Rourke or Basinger, I suggest you rent it. If not, oh well....there is much more out there that is twice as raunchy as this was considered in it's prime.

Carrie (1976)
It took a chance and danced on a thin line.......
28 December 2004
This movie was a first in a couple of ways. A first for Stephen King and one of the first that showed peer abuse at it's most horrific. Someone mentioned in this thread of comments about "Queen Bee's Wannabee's and Carrie" and I concur, even though I do not trash colleagues and respect them as I wish to be respected, from my own point of view, these books are not what is needed because they do not touch upon the fact that this is a form of abuse as any other form out there and yes, kids as old as 16 have the capacity to differentiate right from wrong and bullying is WRONG. Carrie literally lives a "living hell" with a mom who is a bonafied nut case (or maybe somewhat O/C when it comes to religion)who freaks if Carrie even breathes the wrong way and at school, these adolescent sadists do not know WHEN to stop! You want to scream "LEAVE THIS GIRL ALONE ALREADY" and the abuse keeps on where the chicken blood spews all over Carrie. This movie was made in the mid 70's and the bullying has grown worse. Good movie and better than the remake that hit the tube several years ago.....at least in this picture, there was a teacher who cared. The norm that bullied kids get is "If you ignore it then it will go away."

Death of A Cheerleader (1994 TV Movie)
Yes, peer abuse at it's peak!
26 December 2004
I have been waiting a while to comment on this movie mainly because I had a hard time trying to be objective about it as I have met many Stacies and Angelas in my time and how bullying is done in girls. This movie is probably the best example of the female bully and how well she hides her evil side from those in authority, uses it to manipulate her peer group and keeps every one around her a little "off balance." Now, I do not justify killing under ANY circumstances. In the movie, Angela killed Stacy and whether Stacy was going to bad mouth her all over the school or not is moot. There is NO JUSTIFICATION IN KILLING! Angela committed a crime, could keep it inside for only so long and eventually, she snapped and could not hide it anymore. The behavior of a cold blooded killer? HARDLY! More like the behavior of someone who feared being a target of the female bully, found herself in a whole new environment, dreamed of being popular and tried to stay as positive as she could. A dreamer? Sure......insecure? Very definitely. However, Angela's behavior, being that she was 15 years old and in a new environment, lived in an environment full of Mercedes and BMW's and being perfect, her behavior was not that atypical. Angela committed a horrible crime and yes, deserved to be punished and she was.

Stacy was the classic female bully; People befriended her because she was "the golden girl" and even one of Angelas best friends did so because, as she admitted, was afraid of her. Stacy had everything, a great figure, was pretty, a lark, cheerleader.....she had it all by the palm of her hand. As everyone gave Stacy this "power" she used it to her advantage. Her parents doted on her, prinicipal "Ex-lax" all but sucked up to her.......Stacy charmed the socks off of everyone.

Folks, this is what happens when we over indulge people and are taken in by superficial charms. Stacy KNEW where to take her cruelty and who to take it to. Angela defended Monica (and rightfully so! Monica was only being an individual and of course, that went against Stacy's book of ethics!)which made Angela a target. Angela was insecure and wanted acceptance so bad and was drawn in by Stacy and her charms. Angela's friend was accepted by Stacy, she saw that Stacy was "glorified", had everything and Angela wanted it too. When Stacy threatened her in the car with spreading rumors around school or that she was weird and needed to hang around Monica, Angela lost all senses, any sort of sanity and killed Stacy.

What society needs to realize is that bullying behavior, which is done in private 98% of the time, is what drives others to take such actions. More than anything, I think Angela feared becoming a target and would do whatever it took to have that heat off of her. Did anyone ONCE mention that Stacy was evil and cruel? NO! Her parents thought she was the be all to end all and "Ex-Lax" behaved as if she were the next Messiah. Ilk like him is what keeps bullying alive in the schools.

Angela was punished fairly. However, Angela was NOT insane, unstable or any of that. She was a sensitive, 15 year old, driven and passionate girl with a lot of economical and environmental insecurities. She wanted to belong and befriending Stacy is what she felt was the way to go. When it backfired, she snapped. She set expectations on herself that were too high and beat herself up for not reaching them.

Stacy, she was pathetic and as this is based on a true story, I hope GOD had some mercy on her soul. She had the world by the tail and instead of using that to bring good and help others, she misused that power to upset, demean and emotionally destroy. She never left Monica alone, kept Angela off balance and those friends of hers? One would hope that they learned something in this and got a life.....hey, even Jamie admitted that she did not like her but stayed around her out of fear more than anything.

As for "Mr. Ex-Lax"..........what a loser! In my book, he was anything BUT THE BEST.......but a monster himself.......

The Apprentice (2004–2017)
Trump needs to learn to read between the lines
2 December 2004
I am not one who watches much reality television. However, I have taken to The Apprentice. The first season was much better; not a lot of backstabbing, Omarosa commanding an audience, Rancic winning this thing fair and square. It showed that good television based upon the workplace can be made without a lot of "backstabbing caddy crap" that we generally see in the workplace arena. However, the second season has not been as good for these reasons. These women are nothing more than backstabbing wenches who have made a "game" out of this 15 week job interview. As for Donald Trump, yeah, he is a good businessman, has left some good food for thought on the show and appreciates loyalty. On the flipside, he needs to learn to read between the lines. He fired StaceyJ unfairly. He stated that in business, you have to learn to "listen to people." All agreed that StaceyJ was nuts...blah, blah...Um, listening to people is important, however, does he not know a set-up when it is staring him in the face? Yeah, he caught a LOT of flack for firing StaceyJ and this is why. READ BETWEEN THE LINES DONALD! They all agreed because of their "secret meetings" against StaceyJ. Was StaceyJ perfect? No! I agree, wanting to take The Mattel sign was unethical. However, with a group of vipers such as these, they used it and ran with it. Chances are she was kidding. She looked to me like she was joking around, not nuts. Anyway, the point to all of this is that there are good people out there who loose jobs based upon abuse such as this. Donald Trump's "eyes and ears" were there and none had any bad stuff to say about StaceyJ. By firing her, all he did was enable a wench hunt and their set-up. Same with Pamela! He fired what appeared to be good people based on "crap" and this mentality is ALL OVER corporate America. When will people WAKE UP and see this for what it is? ABUSE! Yes, even Donald Trump is incapable of comprehending this. Oh well, all of us have flaws. Unfortunately, his is allowing workplace abuse to continue and probably exists in his own offices as well. Very, very sad indeed! Otherwise, the show is great and look forward to a 3rd season of it.

Mr. Jones (1993)
Gere was right on the money in this one
27 August 2004
I caught this movie last night on TMC. It premiered soon after I was diagnosed with clinical depression in 93 and even though I was glad to finally have a name to my own madness, I was not ready to see it at that point. Many told me about it though and finally, I saw it. It was very, very good. Gere did an exceptional job at portraying the classic Bipolar I individual. (My depression is 95% lows and have had only one or two manic episodes in my life and am well controlled and on meds). The highs are fun but it is pure payback with the lows. Of course, with this being a movie, The Dr. falls for Mr Jones and in the real world, that would lead to termination on her part. In the case of movies though, anything goes and Richard Gere would be hard not to fall for, LOL. Everyone did an exceptional job and it was an exceptional movie. Kudos to all!

In this case, everyone is a victim
23 August 2004
I caught this on LMN the other night. I followed this story for a long time and it seemed to grow worse and worse with time. I have heard that Kimberly Mays has had a hard time and really, if I had gone through what she did, I would not be much better off. She loses her mom at 2, loses a stepmom at 5 or 6 and finds out that she had a "first mommy", finds out that she is not the biological child of the man who raised her since birth when she is 10 and was caught in this custody battle for years. I can understand why Bob Mays reacted as he did. Also, can understand the Twiggs and their need to know Kimberly. Plus, what Arlena had to go through in her short life. Kimberly, Arlena, Bob Mays, the Twiggs......there is no bad guy; they were all victimized in a situation that had not come to light since the days of Solomon. I hope Kim will be able to find some security and happiness despite what she has been through. The movie was also good and everyone did well. Kudos to all! Well done!

Simply disturbing
27 April 2004
I was able to catch this AGAIN not too long ago. I remember reading the book when I was 12 years old and saw the movie not much later. I feel that Joan Crawford was not only an alcoholic but had some delusional problems not to mention obsessive compulsive tendencies, was manipulative and outright NUTS! If parenting was conducted now like this was back in the day, this woman would have been at Social Services in a New York minute! I am glad Christina told her story because in my opinion, she grew up at the hands of a madwoman. Even though some have found "humor" in this, I also hope that it helps others out there to speak out against abuse among children. They have rights too!

Perfect Pie (2002)
This was really good!
3 April 2004
I borrowed this DVD from a friend and I really thought this was a great movie! I thought the acting, writing......everything was really good and found it easy to follow despite the flashbacks throughout the movie. I really could relate to the character Marie/Franchesca in temperament more than anything as I also tend to be a little high strung, sensitive and have that artistic nature within me. Also, it took guts for her character to come back to a place that was hell on earth for her. I could not blame her for leaving in the first place! Also, abuse survivors tend to change their identities at some point so could also understand why Marie changed her name. Patsy was more practical and realistic but that is what makes a best friend who she is: someone who is totally opposite from ourselves and one we can learn from. It sorta reminded me of my long time friend since the 5th grade. Nothing alike or in common except a lifetime of friendship. Great movie and kudos to all involved!

Every Mother's Worst Fear (1998 TV Movie)
This movie is not shown enough if you ask me........
21 January 2004
I caught this movie tonight on Lifetime and I have to comment. The internet is NOT a toy and I wish this movie were shown more often. I say that because I see kids online all the time who drop their names, locations, email addresses and IM names like people drop business cards. I know they think that this sort of stuff will not happen to them but as this movie showed, it can happen to anyone. I reinforce these realities whenever I need to and have no problem doing so. Cyberspace crawls with pedophiles, stalkers and people who have nothing else to do but play online all day. I think this movie was good and I wish it were shown more often. If any parents are reading this.......PLEASE keep the computers out of the kids rooms. Otherwise, you never know what sort of trouble can come of just "innocently" talking in a chat room to someone. The internet is not a toy and should not be treated as one. Just my two cents.

Big Bully (1996)
This is NOT kids play!
4 January 2004
I saw this movie and there was no reality to what a bully is really like or how his target is affected (except when it was affecting Davie with his job and life, check out the workplace, it happens) until the end when Davie says "I still have nightmares from 4th grade because of what you had done to me" to Roscoe, his childhood bully. Adult bullies do not go the route of "the polar bear is dead" chant. They play divide and conquer among colleagues and not "flicking peas" in a lunchroom. Much more sophisticated (and psychopathic) as adults. However, I also felt that this was made as a take on bullying or as a satire more or less? If so, not a good idea. Bullies grow up to be your rapists, spousal abusers and child abusers. There is no humor in that at all. Frankly, it is time to call a spade a spade and see that bullying is not silly kids stuff like we were suppose to think by this movie. It is a serious problem with serious consequences and not something I take lightly.

This rocked!
2 January 2004
Honestly, I do not see why people would say anything bad about this movie. I absolutely LOVED IT! The character that Julia Roberts played rocked and good to see a movie with someone trying to make this world a better and more tolerable place and does not cater to conformity or the "shoulds" and "should nots" of this world. It was well written and acted and darnit, it is a ten star movie in my opinion. Great job!

If it were not for Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt.......
25 December 2003
Warning: Spoilers
this movie would not be.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS BEYOND HERE...........

For starters, those kids gave the term "undisciplined" an underrated meaning. They were down right barbaric! Where were the rules? When I was 12 and 13, I did not puke on the floor and just leave it there. When I was 8 and 9, I did not go to birthday parties and throw food, play hockey in the house and certainly did not break everything in sight! Also, dad leaves his job because the kids are not happy???? Uh.......HELLO! Life is full of changes and instead of making it unbearable for everyone around them, they needed to give it a chance and LEARN to adjust! The only thing that did make an ounce of sense was mom stopping her book tour to come home and help out. If discipline had been enforced, chaos would have ceased. Some of those kids were old enough to know better and the younger ones, they should have had rules enforced.

I saw this because I am a Steve Martin fan. Believe me, if not for him and Bonnie Hunt, I would have left the theatre before the movie was over. They and they ALONE were worth the money. NOTHING ELSE!

Brian's Song (1971 TV Movie)
This was awesome......
17 December 2003
This movie was awesome. Had all of the ingredients of friendship, love, acceptance and breaking of racial barriers considering the era it took place in. One of the best. However, I do recommend that before viewing this, one gets 20 boxes of kleenex and a bottle of prozac, you are gonna need it.

Big Business (1988)
This is just TOO funny!
25 June 2003
I LOVE this movie.....have seen it so many times, I think I have it memorized. It is one of those movies that you can watch and never tire of. This was made back in the 80's when we were learning about identical twins seperated at birth and how the genetics and environment played into the make-up as a whole. The funny thing in this movie is that the twins were switched at birth accidently and both sets shared the same name at that.......great stuff!

Beaches (1988)
A TOTAL tear-jerker!
25 June 2003
Okay.....this movie rocked.....bottom line! I cried and still cry when I watch this. Loved the storyline, acting, writing.....EVERYTHING! Reminds me of my best friend that I met when I was in the 5th grade. Now, almost 25 years later, we are STILL best friends. Saw a lot of myself and her in this as well......her child is my godchild.....so many similarities to our own friendship! Nothing in common, very different people except for one thing, a lifetime of friendship! The only difference: We would NEVER THINK of going after the same man, NO WAY! Exceptional movie!

This is a must see!Great Work!
17 June 2003
I caught this movie tonight on LMN and this is a definate must see. This woman is raped and the police knew that this rapist was on the lose, yet failed to protect these victims. She was used as "bait" per say and I feel that she did the right thing in doing what she did. This occured during a time when another serial rapist was on the lose in Scarborough, Toronto and Niagara Falls and the police did not seem to have the sophistication to catch him whatsoever or maybe this was tied into their lack of duty, who knows. I feel this was a lesson well learned and a wake up call to those working in law enforcement. As for the diagnosis of this woman before and after, I feel that she was not a "mixed personality" but suffered PTSD due to man made stress which can trigger clinical depression in a person. I did not find her to be "dellusional"........a tad histrionic but considering what she was dealing with, it would not be unusual. I was glad to see that in the end, things worked out and she worked hard at making others aware of these issues and bringing on the changes. As an activist myself, I commend her on her efforts to get out there and try to make this world a much better place by educating others. Great movie......Wendy Crewson was exceptional! A definate must see for all!

I am really surprised Hitler was not the Anti-Christ, what he did was beyond sadistic and I hope he fries for eternity, nobody deserves it more. GREAT MOVIE! Dark but good
25 March 2003
I saw this movie this past weekend on video and I thought it was really good. A mother who dances with danger and a daughter trying to pry herself from her mother's grip. I was glad to see Astrid grow and learn so much. If her mother had not gone to prison, she may not learned some valuable lessons such as love and salvation. Very deep and dark but well worth the time and money.

Stand Against Fear (1996 TV Movie)
More Peer Abuse.......
21 February 2003
This movie was more classic Peer Abuse that kids live on a daily basis. The girl Krista stood up to the bullies who were members of the football team. However, cases like this are rare as over 98% of these incidents go unreported. Title IX is good, however, there needs to be firm laws enforced here as well (like in other forms of abuse). The movie was good and a good example of more Peer Abuse occuring before our eyes. Kudos to all involved!
