I criticised Young Sheldon for backing away from some of the darker aspects of The Big Bang Theory lore, most noticeably when they rewrote George's cheating with a cutesy misunderstanding.
But can't accuse if of backing away this episode. The episode was choreographed to George's death which fans knew were coming, the promise of a new future (the job, moving house), the looking back (family photo) and George getting a quite moment with each of the family.
This was devastating, and suddenly the relatively minor changes Sheldon was fearing turned into an almighty trauma.
Thank you writers for giving the fans what they needed, even if it was painful.
