From: Oh, the Places We'll Go (2022)
Hooked
I had my doubts about this show initially, but after the second episode I became addicted to it. I loved Lost and wayward Pines, and this in a similar universe. The last episode had me definitely longing for more! Brilliant show and we'll worth a watch. Ignore the negative reviews on here. Most wouldn't know a good show if it bit them on the face like the creatures!
Charmed (2018)
Fluffy charmed.
This reboot has mostly negative reviews and originally I thought it was pretty lame too, but once you watch a few more episodes you'll find it's not that bad, and season 2 is much better. Nothing can touch the original Charmed, and I do think it should have been remade with the children of the original sisters, but despite the in your face feminist rubbish it's watchable. Better than the one stars have you believe.
The Shape of Water (2017)
Beautiful and sublime.
This has become one of my favourite movies. I didn't think I'd like it but I loved it. Beautifully shot and acted, it totally captivated me from start to finish. Sally Hawkins was fantastic. Having read some of the ridiculously negative reviews on here, I can only conclude that those people probably prefer to watch Finding Nemo. Worst film of all time? Seriously?
Better Watch Out (2016)
Funny as f $%k
Ignore all the negative reviews. Clearly they don't understand the concept of 'horror comedy '. I was going to give this an 8 but wanted to balance out the ridiculous 1s and 2s. Definitely worth a look.
Hostile (2017)
Beautiful film.
I absolutely loved this film. The ending really took me by surprise and is incredibly touching. This is not just a story of the apocalypse but of a love story. You won't be disappointed if you watch this.
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
Best superhero movie ever.
I'm a little late to the game but I finally got to see this movie and it absolutely floored me. I can't add much to the other positive reviews on here except to say, if you haven't seen it then you won't be disappointed. It's brilliant.
Fear the Walking Dead (2015)
Great show.
I was getting a little tired of the Walking Dead so decided to give this a watch, and I'm glad I did. I love it so far. Really like the characters in this especially the women although the husband is a bit irritating. I don't understand the negative reviews at all. I think people expect a clone of the Walking Dead maybe but this is totally different and it's got staying power
Picnic at Hanging Rock (2018)
Beautifully shot and surreal.
Ignore the bad reviews from people who clearly don't know what a good mini series looks like. I really liked this show. Lots of beautiful scenery with some scenes reminding me of a stage play. Very eerie with seemingly factual threads interspersed with elements of the supernatural and sci fi. Natalie Dormer is great as usual and the overall acting is very good. Some found it confusing and it does end in am ambiguous way but then so did the book and film. Loosely based on the real life disappearance of two girls in the 1800s, I'd definitely give this a watch if you're looking for something to kill a few hours.
A Quiet Place (2018)
Tense and scary.
I'm not sure what movie some people saw going by their negative reviews but it wasn't this one. A Quiet Place is a tense and artfully shot movie that makes full use of sounds to crank up the tension. With barely any dialogue that's a great feat. The acting is top notch and the fear on the faces of the actors really does seem real. Yes, there are plot holes but in a movie where you have to suspend your disbelief, I find there are always plot holes. I enjoyed it a lot and look forward to the sequel.
Dunkirk (2017)
Classic understated masterpiece.
After reading some of the negative reviews on here I felt I had to balance it out somewhat. One of the criticisms was that it was boring, bland and that the characters had no depth. I didn't see that at all. What I saw was an incredibly tense series of scenes with an underlying musical score that was brilliant.
It was almost like watching a play, the scenes were short and dialogue kept sparse because the story just told itself. The story of Dunkirk. Some of the characters didn't have names because of this. The air scenes with Tom Hardy were beautifully shot, the beach scenes atmospheric and poignant. I love the fact that the men didn't have unnecessary dialogue, that there was just enough to convey the misery and the fact that they were all damaged from what they'd experienced.
I feel that some people are so used to blood , gore and massive explosions with 20 characters all running around at once, screaming and shouting that they just didn't get this film at all. That's fine, if you want to see that kind of thing but don't give negative reviews just because it wasn't exciting enough for you.
This film captures the emotional coldness of what it might be like to experience trauma. It also shows how some men couldn't face fighting anymore, that they werent loud ballsy heroes but quiet, scarred ones.
It's a shame that some people can't see the beauty of this film, that they are so jaded by Hollywood special effects and confusing overdone scenes but I for one loved it.
Annihilation (2018)
Strange but really good.
Don't pay any attention to the usual pretentious negative reviews. This film is different and a fresh slice of science fiction. The bear in it will give you nightmares. Definitely worth a watch!
Britannia (2017)
Amusing Celtic romp.
I've read some of the ridiculous negative reviews on here and just want to scream with frustration. Britannia is not meant to be factually accurate or historically precise. It's a tongue firmly in cheek romp through Celtic Britain. The characters are either evil or hilarious with Zoe Wannamaker having some of the best one liners. Surely, anyone can see it's not meant to be taken seriously, especially after seeing Veran and Divis play their parts like characters out of a play that a stoned Shakespeare might have written. It's a fantasy epic with great characters and scenery and a perfect title song by Donovan. The song alone should tell you that you should just go with the flow and have a laugh, something a lot of reviewers surely need, along with a few beers and a good lay. They've totally missed the point. Don't let it put you off. I'm really looking forward to another season. It's not game of thrones but it's never claimed to be.
