Sir Gawain is worthy of an artistic modern retelling of a medieval story
30 August 2021
The Green Knight has the surreal atmosphere of legendary medieval tales, but in the end you can relate to the journey of Sir Gawain to our journey in modern times. The cinematography is spectacular, reminding me of the sublime frames of the assassination of Jesse James.

The acting is good, in the middle part the pacing is slow. The twist in the end worked for me. Overall a good experience...

The Lobster (2015)

Lobster is an excellent choice...
23 January 2021
It's a quirky, weird, absurd, fun film to watch. But this kind of humour is not for everyone. The Lobster made me sad at times, it also depicts the pros & cons of loneliness perfectly. The dialogues are the best part of this black comedy. Both Colin Farrell & Rachel Weisz did splendid job to portray their characters with subtle nuances. The supporting actors did very well too. Highly recommended.

Impeccable sound mixing & Riz Ahmed's soulful performance makes it a must watch
11 January 2021
It's a unique experience watching this movie thanks to the impeccable sound design. Riz Ahmed is at his best in this tale of self discovery. The variation in sound mixing let us viewers to feel what Ruben was going through. Kudos to the director, fantastic debut.

Mark Ruffalo is the heart & soul of this dramatic masterpiece
3 October 2020
I recently watched this amazing mini-series based on Wally Lamb's novel of same title. Mark Ruffalo is a revelation here playing the roles of identical twin brothers. One of them is paranoid schizophrenic, other one's life is filled with tragedies. The way Mark Ruffalo conveyed his anger, frustration and sadness through great acting touched my heart. The supporting cast is brilliant as well. Flawless direction by Derek Cianfrance, who made Blue Valentine and The place beyond the pines.

The pain & suffering of a man living with severe mental illness is poignantly portrayed here. As if mental illness is a curse, which can be purified with something holy. All the tragedies Mark's character had to endure brings sadness to my heart.

I highly recommend this series for it's sheer dramatic brilliance.

A great psychological thriller, not just a regular anime
28 June 2020
I didn't expect to be blown away before watching this mindbending anime. I thought how disturbing it can be? Trust me it's quite disturbing, not for the faint hearted. The storytelling is the finest quality of this gem, the surrealistic approach is as good as David Lynch movies. I felt sorry for the misfortunes of mima. In the end you question yourself what is the reality? Was she dreaming all along? I highly recommend this masterpiece, it's the most powerful anime I watched since Grave of the fireflies.

Beautifully shocking & haunting storytelling
15 June 2020
I was surprised to watch this delicate movie. It's a story about true love & how far will you go to satisfy your hunger. When the addiction takes over there's no respite, people do dangerous things to satisfy that addiction. Here the addiction is barbaric, the thought of it haunts you. The lead actress is gorgeous, loved her performance & the lead guy did well too. It's a must watch movie for people who love unusual concept.

A compelling story told with cinematic brilliance
11 June 2020
Clint Eastwood made a different kind of war movie, one which portrays the devastation of war. Most American war movies show Japanese soldiers as beastly beings, but the truth is they are humans too just like American soldiers. The first half was a bit slow to set the foundation of different characters. The second half was brilliant accompanied with great acting by Ken Watanabe & other Japanese actors. Some scenes really hit me hard in the gut, it's not just any war movie, it lies among one of the greats. I highly recommend this movie.

One of Johnny Depp's best performances, this movie should have been released
10 June 2020
This is a gripping crime thriller about corruption in LAPD. Johnny Depp gave an exceptional performance here after Black Mass. Forest Whitaker did well too. It has shades of JFK movie, but couldn't achieve that greatness. This movie should have been released, it's a shame that it got stuck due to controversy. More people should watch this movie.

Paatal Lok (2020– )

An intense thriller dealing with crime & corruption
23 May 2020
This is probably the best Indian web series I've seen, I haven't watched Sacred games so can't compare these two. Jaideep Ahlawat steals the show in Paatal lok, he's the heart & soul of this gritty crime thriller. This show gives a certain vibe we get to see in Anurag Kashyap's works mostly. It's unapologetic & hits you in the gut. The plot is quite simple, it involves corrupt cops, gangsters & polititions. But the uniqueness lies in the storytelling & direction aspect. Paatal lok isn't flawless, it has some loop holes here & there. But overall it's a must watch crime thriller. Neeraj Kabi is a revelation here, the rest of the supporting cast did a phenomenal job as well. We need more good contents like this on OTT platforms.

The sad truth of Shia's childhood
17 February 2020
It's a very heartwarming movie, Shia LaBeouf's best performance after Fury. The way he portrayed the role of his abusive dad must have been hard for him. The movie portrays the hardships of a child actor, who unfortunately had to deal with a rough dad. Both Noah Jupe & Lucas Hedges were wonderful as Shia's younger versions. Noah is so talented, at this young age he showed the pain of his character flawlessly. It's a beautiful film & more people should watch it, appreciate it.

Adam Sandler is the real gem in this movie
16 February 2020
The movie is really intense. It's an edge of the seat thriller, constantly making you nervous with it's high tension situations. Adam Sandler is a revelation here, this movie makes up for all the horrible films he did in the last 10 years. The script & direction is on another level, hats off to the Safdie brothers. The ending hit me real hard in the gut, I wasn't expecting something like that, I felt sorry for Howard, best ending possible I guess.

Overhyped piece of garbage, nonsensical plot
7 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Jordan Peele is a one hit wonder for sure, after watching this horrible movie. Get Out was weird, but in a good way. US made millions of dollars based on hype only. The plot was so bad & illogical, I was feeling cursed while watching this garbage. Peele should not make anymore movies, he's not some artistic genius, Us proved it. In the end there's a dumb plot twist as well. I mean what the hell were they thinking while making this film. Please believe all those negative reviews, it's really a horrible movie with no storyline at all.

Hereditary is a shocking thriller concerning witchcraft & tragedy
23 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Hereditary is a shocking thriller concerning tragedy within a family. Toni Collette is top notch, she portrayed her character sincerely. Gabriel Burns & Alex Wolffe are damn good, Milly Shapiro is creepy af.

The first time director Ari Aster did a wonderful job, the story makes you feel the pain of Graham family. Some disturbing scenes were cut off by Censor board, I'm pissed about that, just GROW UP CBFC. It's a must watch for horror fans. The story revolves around Toni's dysfunctional family, after her mother's death strange things begin to happen. 30 mins into the film there's a huge blow delivered to the audience, you'll not see this coming. While dealing with a tragic loss, their family encounters a supernatural entity, nothing like the Conjuring movies ,rather similar to Rosemary's Baby. The ending somewhat lets this brilliant film down. It felt like an anticlimax. Some disturbing scenes are shot with perfection. I am hopeful about Ari Aster's future projects. You can never know what Evil runs through your family.....

This is a film you should not miss, content driven movie at its best
7 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
John Abraham is back with a bang, this time with a patriotic movie. The real story of the famous nuclear tests at Pokhran back in 98 is part of our proud history. The script is top notch, no extra drama or added subplots. John has improved his acting in this one much like Madras Cafe. The ensemble cast did a great job. The race against time sequences were exhilarating. Their team, Pandavas, made a fool out of CIA.

Bollywood needs more of these kinds of movies, thumbs up! Abhishek Sharma did a great job here.

Pari scores with Anushka Sharma's down to earth meek yet vengeful Performance
8 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Watched Pari today, It's a nice supernatural thriller. This is Anushka Sharma's best performance after NH10, Parambrata was good As usual & Ritabhari did the best she could. Rajat Kapoor as the righteous prof hell bent on killing Demon Ifrim's child Peri i.e. Anushka's Rukhsana. Anushka Sharma is the beating heart of this film. The story could've been better especially in the second half. But this is on completely another level compared to Bhatt camp's cheap mindless horror flicks like 1920 series, Haunted & the rest. Overall dir. Prosit Roy made a brave effort by making a hindi horror film that packs a punch.

I fell in love with Anushka's Rukhsana knowing that she's a demon's child. She's so adorable

Visually enchanting, creepy & definitely not for everyone, worth Watching
15 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
It's not as bad as most reviews said, it's not great either, but it's weird, absurd in a good way, creepy at times. Overall good attempt by Gore Verbinski, similar to Shutter Island but not that great. Shutter Island was brilliant, but this one lacks the touch of the great Scorsese.

The ending is a bit of a letdown. Dane Dehaan, Jason Isaacs & Mia Goth are excellent. The story had too many directions, sometimes looses its way, but the eerie atmosphere keeps you interested. Some shocking scenes here & there adds to the surprise factor.

I have written this review after a long time because so many people saying terrible things about this movie. But it's definitely worth watching. The ending could have been better, the film could have been shorter, but if you like watching eerie suspense movies you wouldn't regret watching a cure for wellness.

Jurassic World is Not as Brilliant as Jurassic Park but still Impressive for the young generation
26 June 2015
Warning: Spoilers
When I first watched Jurassic Park on TV, I was astonished. The dinosaurs looked so real, it blew my mind. The Genius of Steven Spielberg was the main reason behind Jurassic Park's huge success. But here in Jurassic World, We needed Spielberg as the director, not Colin Trevorrow.

Jurassic World starts off with a good note with the side story of two young boys going for a trip to Jurassic World, which is managed by their aunt Claire(Bryce Dallas Howard). She looked hot and well mannered as the business woman in the white dress and stilettos.

The two boys were very annoying, Ty Simpkins & Nick Robinson. Especially Nick the older one, who constantly looked disinterested in everything around him, except girls. He doesn't like dinos or any other stuff in the amusement park. So why the hell he has come for with his bro?

Chris Pratt as Owen Grady looked convincing as the raptor controlling, life saving hunk. But I liked him more in Guardians of the Galaxy. I found it really hard to believe that a human can actually control raptors?

Irrfan Khan was good as the owner of Jurassic World, Simon Masrani. He played an important role & a longer one unlike his ridiculous cameo in The Amazing Spider Man(that film was terrible). I loved when he was flying the chopper, but the 2nd time he did it, he died miserably(he asked for it).

Bryce needs to improve her acting skills. It was very odd that how she could run with those high heels across the jungle when Indominus Rex was chasing her!

Also the scene in the climax she sat in a sexy pose watching I-Rex & T-Rex fighting in front of her, so close, as if she was watching a dog fight. Really, What the Hell?

Despite these flaws, I liked the movie because of its visual spectacle, not the storyline. The subtle twists with I-Rex origin, the hybrid factor, the huge Mosasaurus in the lake, I loved it. Also Pratt made it interesting in most of the parts. I loved when the archeopteryx globe broke and all the flying dino-birds went berserk.

Overall, it's a fun watch with your family. But don't compare Jurassic World with Spielberg's masterpiece Jurassic Park, or else you'll be disappointed. I give it 9 out of 10, Cheers!

A Gritty Thriller about Terrorism with Akshay the Action Hero
25 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Watched BABY today at a theater, Brilliant Crime Thriller. Special 26 was very interesting by director Neeraj Pandey & he delivered another intense thriller about the burning issue all over the world -- Terrorism. After a really long time I liked Akshay Kumar back in his Action Mode, after doing all those mindless comedies. The 2nd half is a little bit overlong, some of the dialogues were Corny, but otherwise it's an edge-of-the-seat thriller. It keeps u hooked for 160 min, the story is intriguing & it makes u guess what's gonna happen next.

I didn't get bored. Special mention for the terrorist mastermind, a Pakistani actor, Rasheed Naz, he looked very convincing & Menacing as well. He looked like a real terrorist of Al-Queda or Mujahidin.

I want Akshay Kumar to do more Serious Action films like this one. Kindly Quit doing those crappy comedies. The story revolves around a group of Special task force who goes worldwide to stop Terrorism. Taapsee Pannu's action sequence was Brilliant. I hope this movie will be a huge Hit.

Abir as the New Feluda is Amazing & the film is very Enjoyable
4 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Watched Badshahi Angti today, nice film with genuine twists, I didn't read the story. Abir as Feluda is simply Amazing, though I missed Sabyasachi's Baritone & Attitude, but Abir & Topse (played by Sourav) are really Refreshing. Paran Banerji was Brilliant as the Villain, He's such a gr8 actor. I'll eagerly wait for the next Feluda film just for Abir, he played Feluda with a nice attitude & Personality, completely different from his Byomkesh Portrayals. Special mention for the scenic beauty of Lucknow, very well shot by Sandip Ray, the director. It's a nice detective film to watch with your family.

The story revolves around a stolen ring with precious stones from Mughal age. It has it's fair share of twists & turns, many of you have read the story. But those like me who haven't read it, it'll be very surprising

Worst Horror film I've ever seen, Rob Zombie disappoints with this one
31 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is just awful. I hated some other horror films like "Silent Hill' & "Candyman", but this film is even worse. It tries to be very creepy & weird but doesn't make any sense. It's very disturbing to watch the last 20 minutes of this film, I've seen many bizarre films but this one is a total crap.

The film focuses on Witch covens of Salem, so I thought it would be interesting to watch. I liked American Horror Story Season 3 which also deals with witchcraft, but this film makes no sense at all. Meg foster is the most annoying one here as the queen witch, watching her naked makes me puke. Also the other witch ritualistic scenes involving naked, distorted old witches are simply nauseating.

So I recommend you people out there who love to watch good quality horror films just stay away from this film. I loved Rob Zombie's remake of Halloween (2007), but this film is very disappointing. I can't believe I watched it on Halloween night, It just ruined my night. Also Sherri Moon Zombie was the reason I watched the film, I like her, but she couldn't save this piece of trash.

I give this awful film only 1/10, guys don't watch this film, you better watch Audition(1999) if you want some creepy disturbing stuff

Mishawr Rohoshyo is just a mediocre Sleuth film, with great special effects
25 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Watched Mishawr Rohoshyo yesterday, It's a mediocre Sleuth film. I was expecting much better from Srijit & Prosenjit. The storyline is weak, there was no such suspense in the film, though the fight sequences are great, some good quality special effects were there, except the fight between Prasenjit & Rajit Kapur in the Climax, it was so lame & I couldn't understand why Al Mamun (Rajit Kapur) was wrapped like a mummy, all done by himself. Santu didn't have much to do, but he looked good, not as convincing as Topshe (Feluda's assistant)

Indraneel was damn good as Hani Alkadi, he's perfect for the role. But I was expecting him to be menacing, though he was quite friendly to Kakababu (Prosenjit). Neel Mukherjee & Swastika stole the show with their brilliant comic act. Srijit's works are over-hyped now, Hemlock Society was mediocre too, & the music sucked as their was no Anupam Roy magic, which happened to be the main attraction of Srijit's earlier films. Overall I give it 6/10

A Completely Different Kind of Supernatural Thriller, a Niche Film
4 December 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Just Watched "Talaash". The film started on a high note, building suspense throughout the 1st half. But in the 2nd Half things became very illogical. Kareena Kapoor is a ghost!!!!!!!!! r u kidding me????????Apart from that silly climax, Both Aamir & Kareena were brilliant.

Aamir, being a perfectionist, lived up to my expectations. The special thing about Aamir that every time he has something different to offer. His Powerhouse performance as inspector Shekhawat is the X-factor of this film. Kareena as Rosy was stunning throughout the film. Her Conversations with Suri (Aamir) were the best scenes in the film.

The music is Awesome, especially "Jee Le Zaara" & "Laakh Duniya Kahe" touched my heart. Rani had very little to do in this film, though she was nice. I expected a lot more from this film. But in the end it turned out to be a silly ghost story. So I'm giving it [7/10]

"What is a Ghost? A moment of Pain, perhaps"
3 November 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I almost cried after watching this film. The story of Carlos & other boys at the orphanage touched my heart. Here the word "Ghost" is used as an allegory. The ghost of the little boy Santi isn't supposed to scare you or make you feel creepy. The tragic death of Santi at the hands of Jacinto actually gets your sympathy, I felt very sad for Santi.

On the other hand, Carlos doesn't even know his father died at the war-field but unfortunately he was left at the orphanage, estranged from his dad. Jaime was so scared of Jacinto that he couldn't tell anyone about Santi's death, but in the end he fought bravely against Jacinto.

Special mention for Dr. Casares, in the end he helped those boys to fight against Jacinto & his men, but as a ghost. The definition of a "Ghost" by Casares is just perfect. In this supernatural film I felt sad for the ghosts as there is a tragic story behind their death.

"What is a Ghost? something dead but still seems to be alive" I give it 10/10

Micheal Fassbender at his best in this urban tale about life
6 June 2012
Warning: Spoilers
After watching the film only one word came to my mind - "Masterpiece". This movie left me spellbound with it's real & stark images. Now Steve McQueen is definitely on the list of my favorite directors. He gave life to this story which many other directors would've failed to do.

In this film, Micheal Fassbender is at his best. His portrayal of Brandon Sullivan is very down to earth & you'll be able to relate yourself to his character. The moment he listens to his sister Sissy's (Mulligan) song at the hotel & tears came down from his eyes, that was the most touching moment.

Now, the sexual scenes might appear quite vulgar to many people, but I think those scenes were needed to portray Brandon's sex addiction & deep down all of us want the same thing as Brandon did. Some of us show it but others hide it beneath our heart. Carey Mulligan is fabulous as Sissy. She desperately tried to help his brother who was going through an emotional crisis but Brandon never cooperated.

I haven't seen a brilliant & realistic movie like this since "Requiem for a dream". The images shown in the film depicts our needs, it's related to our basic instincts, but most of the times we're incapable of accepting it just like Brandon.

So I'm rating this film - 10/10

One of the best Psychological Thrillers I've ever seen.
12 October 2010
Warning: Spoilers
The Machinist is indeed one of the best psychological thrillers of the decade. The story revolves around an industrial worker,Christian Bale as Trevor Reznik, who is suffering from Insomnia and hasn't slept in a year.He is a bit eccentric in character and weird things are happening to him recently including Hallucination. Now in order to find what is going wrong with him he finds himself in a big trouble which is related to a Sin committed by him in the past. His dreadful past is haunting him but he is not aware of it.And the best thing is that you will get to know the secret only at the end of the film. This is no doubt Christian Bale's best performance as Trevor Reznik. He is even better in this film than The Dark Knight. If you are a Thriller movie fan then It will be a treat for you to watch. So friends sleep well after watching this movie.
