Red Notice (2021)

It works.
5 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
They could start a franchise with this trio.

Lets be blunt here. Its not close to being the best of the thief heist genre, but the movie is not trying to do that, honestly, it just wants to entertain.

It has heist planning, escapes, crossing, double crossing, crossing the crosser to the point of absurdity, it is predictable, it has plot armor, i mean, it has everything you expect from this kind of movie. Yet, it is delivered in a way that you like it by renowned actors in the comedy/action genre. You should have seen their movies already to know what i mean, unless you have been living under a rock (yes, pun intended). So you know they are capable of delivering in both fronts. Add Gal Gadot to the mix, which is not stranger to action flicks herself, and you have a trifecta. A perfect excuse to grab a beer, some popcorn and chill for 90 minutes.

Give it a try. Its fun.

Don't Look Up (2021)

Unexpected gem
4 March 2022
Im not a US citizen and I dont live there, but (more in a moment).

You know the setting of the movie already, if not, here is a summary. A planet killer sized meteor is found, it will impact the planet in just about 6 months.

Any sensible person will, you know, try to save the planet but... (continuation of the first part) though we live in the era of information, there is madness, madness and stupidity, from the media,, big tech companies, and specially, politicians.

This movie is quite serious, with 2 great lead actors and stellar support cast, but it is also what I think is a satire of the modern world, if not a satire, it is a perfect depiction of the modern world anyways.

Science its about facts. But a big part of the population has a different opinion. And unfortunately for us, we always end up voting for those clowns, one side or the other, they are the same breed and they hold the fate of our future.

So its actually a bit frustrating to watch the real world being emulated almost to perfection here. Apart for being an entertaining movie, it will put you to think a bit about our current situation.

Mortal Kombat (2021)
6/10
Undecided.
4 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Lets get to the point.

The original movie lacked the modern sfx and it was PG-13. This new one is rated R.

The scrip/plot of the original was far better. This new script, though it does the job, is far from decent.

In terms of action, both movies are quite similar, but the inclusion of gore aided with the next gen of sfx truly makes this new movie feel like, well, Mortal Kombat

Since this one is a reboot of the movie franchise and the script being plain bad, Im honestly a bit confused about the chronology. Im not entirely sure if what i saw was the 10th tournament or if it was the events previous to it. I want to believe that it set somewhere before the 10th tournament.

In any case, it is the first part of a trilogy, they got the essence of the game, there is a possibility that they will correct what failed in the script. There is some room to improve. If they do correct the script, the next movie will be excellent.

You will get some nausea from the script, but you will stay for the action. Do watch it.

I cried (a little)
21 January 2022
For those who watched the original movies, once the plot got a bit developed, we were a bit ahead of the movie, it was obvious were it was going, usually is not something great, for the plot to be predicted, but i was excited with the idea of what i was gonna see, and i did.

This is a beautiful homage to the originals and a love letter for all the fans who were, like myself, waiting for decades for this to be made.

Its a must for all the fans, you just gotta see it. You will love it.

Not worth the time.
14 December 2021
I dont understand. This is a franchise that is worth a lot of money if handled properly. Unfortunately it was not.

The target audience should have been people like me, on the late 30's and early 40. And obviously smaller kids being introduced to this universe, our kids, who would have gladly received He-Man toys on Christmas from ourselves.

But no, it had to be a show for empowering girls, i mean, She-Ra exists, i dont know why you need to change an existing franchise when you have another one specifically made for that.

It was matter of giving fan service to the old timers and some good action for the younger ones.

I really do feel sorry for the voice talent and the animation behind it, because it is extremely good in that aspect, its just that the storytelling, to start, its false right from the advertising, the motivations of the main character are silly and annoying, and the story is boring.

I really dont know what happened on the second arch, since i think already aired and i have not watched it, but i dont even want to find out, the original arch was quite disappointing.

It does not matter if you were fan of the original or you want to jump on this. If you are fan of the original you wont pass arch 1, if you are new, you will not like the first one and you still wont watch arch 2. So save yourself some time and watch something else.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Body Parts (1996)
Season 4, Episode 24

Excelent episode
27 August 2021
I dont really rate separate episodes ever, but this one made me do it.

While the episode was nothing out of the ordinary for DS9, this one was all about Quark, and a small subplot that is kinda meh.

Quark is one, if not my favorite character of the show, and this episode its all about him. If you enjoy Quark, you will enjoy this episode.

The Orville (2017–2022)

Wonderful Sci-fi show
1 August 2021
It is no news that this show is a star trek parody/homage.

The premise is good enough to any trek fans to watch it. It resembles TNG, but it also add some explicit pop culture humor, Humor that only implicit on Star Trek.

This is something that the show embraces and that gives its own personality. This is the true spirit successor of TNG and Star trek in general.

I feel the show (star trek) never wanted to be the next starwars, I dont feel Star Trek was meant to depict a story of war.

It has always been about encountering new life and civilizations. About interactions between people stuck in the same boat for long periods of time and their interactions. This is exactly what the show offers.

Granted, some episodes on the first season are a bit weak (i have only watched season 1 btw). Overall, they add to the show, as they offer some characters backrgound, and at the end, they pay off, as you have a more profound understanding of the characters moral codes and motivations.

So with this, i told you that there is good comedy and character development, but there is more, there are great actors in the show, they all play their parts perfectly and you feel part of the crew.

The make up is one of the best i have seen in tv, and while the sfx sometimes look cheap and sloppy, they are a big improvement from any trek iteration, but also fill the cheesy/comedy theme of the show

I got late into the Trek hype bandwagon, but modern times allow you to catch up quite fast, and i saw trek deteriorate in front of my eyes in a span of a few months.

While this show take many stablished elements of Trek, (the good ones) it also expands into the what trek should have gone.

Im loving the show and i really hope it can reach 6 seasons and a movie at least.

Black Widow (2021)

Enjoyable
15 July 2021
I was reading some reviews and i was expecting something really bad, like borderline bad movie from marvel. Nothing at all.

It is true that it has some negative aspects, like the movie came a little too late, it should have been released in the proper chronology, certain villain is now, in my opinion, unusable, at least in the current version, and that we will probably wont see any sequel from Sjo due to the known character ending, and lastly, we thought that the movie was going to be scaled relative to the "superpowers" of the hero in question (so, none), actually the movie is comparable to the first Iron Man in terms of scale.

Sjo did a good job leading the movie, but to be honest, it gave a lot of screen time to Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) as she will probably join the MCU soon. She was given a good background, and she has the most hilarious lines in the movie. David Harbour was also great in his role, but i doubt we see more of him, unless he appears in flashbacks.

The marvel movies are supposed to be fun, have epic action, with some jokes here and there,. It is all there, it is well executed. Not real complains from my part, other than the villain, timing and that it does little to nothing to advance the story (probably a set up to another solo movie or tv show, but its a long shot).

Yes, the movie is almost irrelevant to the MCU. Yes, we might forget it soon. Yes, probably Sjo wont return, but this is a proper farewell to the character that we just didnt had in Endgame. But yes, it IS a good movie, go watch it.

Awesome.
12 April 2021
I have not read the books, so this review if just about the movie itself, not talking about the adaptation.

The first thing you have to understand about this movie is that its not meant to be serious, its a satire, a critique of an authoritarian militarized society that wreaked havoc in the world almost 100 years ago. They are just fictionally set in the future.

The treat, instead being humans in the same country, are portrayed as aliens which are insect like who live very far in space. With all that said, you just need the common enemy and the trigger to ignite the war.

And oh boy, war we have. In all the glorious gore, action, sfx, practical effects and outstanding music that the 90's could bring, backed by a 3 way romance that guides the plot.

Despite the fact that i have seen many movies about most of the actors featured here, their more iconic roles, for me, came from Starship Troopers. Great acting, directing. The plot is not complicated, but guides the well written scenes from point A to point B in a pace that is satisfactory to explain whats going on.

I said the plot is very basic, while it is true if you see the movie at face value, it makes you actually think how different society would be had the axis had won the war if you are familiarized with the real history. So the plot has double meaning, the visible that guides the movie, and the invisible one that makes you wonder.

I think this was Paul Verhoeven jewel (Robocop/show girls), its the only film of the franchise he directed, Starship troopers would never was better than this. (The third one wasnt bad, but this is the one to see).

If you like action, gore, blood, romance, either separated or together, you cannot miss this movie.

Tank Girl (1995)
5/10
Meh.
12 April 2021
Well, i saw a video recommending some obscure movies of the 80's-90's, all was well until i reached this one on the list.

Its weird to say the least. Im not entirely sure how to tackle it. Probably ill talk about the target audience first. I dont know who they were, and probably the director/writers werent sure either. You will see some dumb down scenarios where it does look like it was aimed to kids. But there are very adult oriented themes in there too in those same scenes. So definitely not for kids, and its quite boring for adults. Maybe for people in their late teens early 20's who enjoyed the punk world.

Now, you should understand that the movie is a satire, of what i still dont know. I dont know if its a satire of a serious movie, or a satire of a comedy. In any case, you will see for instance "goons" firing at tank girl, being "serious" at it, while she is both returning fire and cooking a hot dog at the same time she is laughing with no cover. (its a good scene though, but weird)

Tank girl is the main heroine, she is like if 90's Gwen Steffani and Pee-Wee had a child. You will see her being rebel and care free at dire situations, while laughing like Pee wee all the time.

The plot, while overall is a good setting, good dystopian world in the big picture, the details came out of the mind of a 10 year old.

The main villain also came out of a cartoon. Oh, and there are kangaroo/ or who knows what are they are kind of humanoid mutants that are quite horny but dont exactly are explained in detail nor actually need to be in the plot.

There are some good bits, like the animation and the overall world they created, they are not really believable, but the movie was never meant to be a serious one. Good sets, art, music was allright.

I wouldnt say it was bad acting in the movie. I actually would say that it is a very professional movie and the people involved there, except the writing. The actors just did what they could with what they had. Its just that while the pacing was ok, the plot is all over the place, some scenes are unnecessary, dont make sense or both.

The movie aimed high, and it would have done it with an actual script.

So in essence, this is a mindless flick, just like in the 80's, it is rebel, its irreverent, its funny (sometimes), but it has bad plot, it makes no sense, it tried to cover so much genres at the same time, it tried to cover all possible audiences, and it failed at everything.

Forgetabbe. Wont say to skip it, because there are a couple of decent bits, but you wont miss anything really. And you are not its target audience anyways, so its not the hidden jewel many people talk about. Its just a failed attempt to create a new genre.

Ash vs Evil Dead (2015–2018)
10/10
The perfect show
16 April 2018
Well, ash became my favorite character of all times since i discovered it almost 20 years ago, though the movies are older.

So, we, the fans have been requesting for a 4th film for a long time. Instead we got a 30 min tv show, 10 episodes a season for 3 seasons at the moment and hopefully, more to come.

I am just grateful we received this amazing show. It has the dark theme, the gore, the one liners and the style of the original movies. but also, they expanded on that, and boy, they delivered big time. New demons are way scarier than the original ones, death scenes are extremely creative, one liners will make you crack. In short, the movies were over the top on each genre (comedy, gore, action, drama) and they surpassed easily on the tv show. Also, they now actually have a budget, so they can film all over the place have the most ridiculous toys, and can destroy deadites in ways that defy imagination and creativity. The script is ridiculous as always, but solid, the cast is stellar. Bruce always delivers regardless if he gets involved in something good or a trainwreck, though this time is a hit. Pablo and kelly, although i kind of resisted at the beginning since ash was riding solo originally, their characters have been treated with love, they are bad-asses in their own field, solid acting. Lucy lawless is flawless too.

Also, well, there is some cgi, at some point its very bad (in a good way, since it was intended), and at some point its great as in a serious way. So, its as good as it has to be.

To end this, a very creative show, leaded by seasoned professionals in the business working to achieve 1 single goal. Calm down the mob that has requested blood and gore for the last 25 years. But i mean, its like giving a junkie more junk, we are just hooked, and if things continue to be this good, we will never be satisfied. At least i can die in peace now that have seen ash kicking ass again.

Its probably not the best tv show. since there are a couple good ones that are better, but this one is certainly the best of the genre, and though revenue is a desired thing on any production, which im sure has made some, the show really is for all the fans out there. that is the main reason that the show has succeeded. Must watch, dont need to see the original movies since it fills you in within the show, but i would recommend to watch at least evil dead 2 prior to watching this one.

Cant beat the original.
17 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
**This may contain spoilers** The original movie was a masterpiece, and its really hard to match.

U get it why they did cgi instead of live action. Casper is older, skinnier, it would be more expensive to create special effects for the new suits, etc.

I cannot complain about the animation, as it is gorgeous. Cant complain about the voice over, it was done by some of the actors from the original and it does bring some nostalgia.

The real bummer on this film is the extremely weak plot. And the wholes that are inside. Like how did Rico survived when he fell into thousands of of enemies?. Why he was alone in the next scene? What happened to the bugs? Why was Carl not executed?, how did he escaped or why was he released? Anyway, if you are fan of the franchise you will love the action scenes, they do resemble and are, not on par, but consistent with the original film. You will enjoy them. The plot, not so much.

This is by no means a masterpiece, but its also far from being garbage as some reviews say. Im happy that they are keeping the franchise alive, but i fear that ill die, if not already, with less than stellar small sequels targeting the fans instead of 1 well done film that everyone can see.

If you are a fan, what are you waiting trooper?, if not, just watch the original.

Great movie
2 May 2017
Well, i skipped this movie for a looooong time, mostly due to his IMDb score. It wont win an Oscar? Sure, few movies do. It has a cliché plot? Sure, but which modern action movie hasn't? If you know Ryan Reynolds, you know he is a funny guy, despite the movie he is in. If you know Jeff Bridges, you know the guy can act, either comedy to drama and all in between. Kevin bacon is always solid.

What happens when you mix them all with a decent plot, some good action scenes and good visual effects?, This movie. Sometimes all you need is to sit down, get a couple of beers, some popcorn, either alone or with good company and have some laughs. Don't trust the rating of this movie, just watch it. Its worth it.

Better that what i expected
22 February 2015
Well, this movie tells 3 tales (which aren't connected aka pulp fiction aside that each involve the same mental asylum).

3 totally different stories about the mentally ill. I wouldn't have watched this movie after seeing it has a 4.6 rating, but my uncle pushed me to, i do not regret.

The downside is that each story is short, although is elaborated enough, i would have liked to watch each as a full movie instead, since they had a theme that is easy to elaborate on.

it has some horror/suspense like atmosphere, but this movie isn't about that. Its just more to captivate the audience and it does a good job.

It has some solid acting (specially the first and last), shame the third one is a retelling of the first one so, less points for that.

The movie isn't bad by itself, but it could have been soo much better. Worth the watch though.

Great show. Recommended
30 December 2011
I was a big fan of Whose line, and i wanted badly to the show to be back.

Well, here is it. I have to say it, when i first watch it, i didn't liked it so much because it has changed so much, the good thing is that i don't abandon shows after 1-2 episodes.

What i liked about whose line pretty much has gone, like certain combos (ryan/colin) etc, though it still happen, they are uncommon, but instead we have a bigger cast. Imagine colin, ryan, jeff, brad, gregg, and drew at the same time. All those heavy weights together, certainly worth some few less games.

The game has also introduced new cast, though a bit less known, certainly good, specially Jonathan, he does an amazing job, he is certainly at the same level of chip or brad.

Since the rotation is is heavy, you never know who might be appearing except from jeff and drew. I thought Jeff was amazing in whose lie, he has more participation here, the weight of the show pretty much falls on him instead of wayne, and he does a great job.

The only drawback in the show is Kathy Kinney, she is not good at all, but fortunately, she is not a regular, and don't appear too often.

The show has more interaction with the public, not only from games like sfx or a singing game, but rather asking pretty much all of the suggestions for the games at mid game. Which makes it funny in its own way.

At the end, we get a new show, with the hearth of whose line, but very different to know that is not a carbon copy. Give this show a try, you will not regret it.

Kick-Ass (2010)
Kick ass movie
9 August 2011
Well, i was expecting some kind of a comic hero parody like super hero movie, or along those lines. Which is decently good, but my god, i was totally wrong.

Kick ass is something totally unexpected, and its very hard to describe. Its a light comedy, yet it has a lot of insane violence, you see people getting shot in the head, members going off the body, knives going trough hands, insane amounts of gunshots. How that mix of genres worked out?. Apparently very easy. Being original.

The soundtrack will subtly drag you inside the movie, the plot its great, the cast couldn't be better, they are all very likable and convincing, specially Hit girl, i never saw something like that, the action secuences look like taken out from kill bill, blade, the dark knight and jackie chan movies.

I hope this give you a vague idea about the movie. But one thing is for sure, it will blow your mind.

Good Movie
29 May 2011
This movie is underrated for starters.

When i saw the poster and the plot, i thought it was going to be an average movie or worse, i still got it anyways since it had a good cast, and you know what?. I didn't regret it. The movie was very entertaining, the plot was original, the music hit the spot and the acting was great. Props to Kyle Gallner in the lead role. His role is very mature and it was well executed.

The rest of the cast was great too, pay attention to james belushi, you will love him in this movie.

Also this is very far for being a comedy, but still very good.

If you see this movie, get it. Its not a masterpiece, but for no means its a waste of your time, you will be surprised. my rating 7. Recommended.
