Monster (2022)
Amazing Award Worthy Performances!!
This series is one for the ages with compelling performances. From the first episode you will be blown away from this story but once you settle in, the performances will start rising to the top. Award worthy acting by a few people in this one. Notably, of course, Evan Peters. He explodes well past his other roles like a quicksilver (pun intended) in his portrayal of Dahmer. An unforgettable performance that will stick with you long before you finish watching. (If you dare.. lol) also award worthy, Niecy Nash. Her role as "the neighbor" and all she went through was so well done that you actually feel it as you watch. Don't want to give details but a must match!! You have to see it for yourself. She shines here. Another performance that deserves recognition was the roller coaster ride Richard Jenkins puts you through as Dahmer's father. He takes us through a range of emotions from angry to sad from sympathy to culpable all in a drop of a hat from episode to episode. Noteworthy are Penelope Ann Miller as the mom & Molly Ringwald as the stepmom, both are stellar here. I've already gone longer then I wanted but must give a shout out to Ryan Murphy, Ian Brennan, and all the directors involved for a series that will shoot up on everyone's one of the best series of all time list. They tell everyone's side and how all the failures made, by family and society, possibly, could have made things different if better decisions were made. Difficult and tough watch for some, to know things like this go on in this world of ours. But yet, so we'll done and so well performed it is well worth it. Highly recommend.
C'mon C'mon (2021)
Slow & Booooooriing
Watched this film based on all the great reviews on here and did all I could to try and like it. But damn, it was impossible. Moved way to slow and dialogue that goes nowhere with unrelatable characters. I give myself a 10 for sitting through the entire film.
The Requin (2022)
Unwatchable!
Could not even finish this mess of a movie. You can totally tell they were filming in a pool or in a bathtub. The special effects were pre school level. These 2 idiots go from bad to worse making decisions a 5 year old wouldn't do in their situation. Just a dumb flick. I would give it a 0 but can't.
The Eyes of Tammy Faye (2021)
Chastain at her best!!
Don't see how Jessica Chastain doesn't get a Oscar nomination for her incredible performance! All around great cast telling of this story we remember when it was all over the news. One of the best films performance wise, I've seen this year. Great work by all involved. Even a supporting actress nod should go to Cherry Jones who was stellar.
Finch (2021)
Hanks is Hanks...
Tom Hanks delivers in this post apocalyptic tale. Hanks is the best actor on the planet even before the apocalypse. Enjoyed this film. I guess you can say it's castaway meets short circuit.
The Many Saints of Newark (2021)
Solid Prequel!
I enjoyed everything about this prequel. Left me wanting to see more of all of these great TV icons created by Chase. They always talked about Dickie Moltisanti on the show. Here's his tale. Worth the watch for any true sopranos fans. The gangs all here in younger versions. Makes we want to hope for a prequel series.
Life of Pi (2012)
Wow.... Amazing Film.
Just watched this movie in 2021, always wanted to see it but I was too busy in my work. Now in my retirement, (thank God) I finally sat down and watched. Great Film ,a joy to watch! Besides a beautiful story, gorgeous cinematography and visual effects. Highly recommend. Ang Lee deserved all the praise he got (best director academy awards) for his excellent work on this film.
Lo imposible (2012)
Incredible story..... but whitewashed.
Great story based on events of the BELÓN family during Tsunami of 2004. My low review is based on the fact of why.., why did they feel to change the family from Spanish BELÓN to Bennett? Also make them blond & blue eyed family. Did they feel audiences wouldn't sympathize with the original race and color of this family without lighting it up? The story and tragedies sell itself. Sad state If that's the reason.
The Mandalorian (2019)
NAILED IT!!
Jon Favreau and his crew have mastered the telling of a continued Star Wars universe.
What's better than season 1? Season 2!
Don't want to give any spoiler alerts but this series just takes you away into a galaxy far far away! Tons of relevant Easter eggs. Can't wait for the next season! Pablo Pascal is bad ass in this role. Giancarlo Esposito is Giancarlo Esposito as always.... phenomenal!
Tune in and enjoy Star Wars fans!
Raised by Wolves (2020)
Left me more confused then when I started...
Loved the premise, loved the idea, loved the direction it was headed until it got to the last episode of season 1. Left me with questions that were not even there in the other 9 episodes. Direction completely changed in last episode that left me lost. I did enjoy the cast, good job by all of them. Great visual effects. Great musical direction.
The Lighthouse (2019)
That's all folks....
What the heck did I just watch!?! All it needed was for Bugs Bunny to pop out of the ground. Because this is the same plot of a looney tunes cartoon I've seen before. I give it 2 stars for the good acting of Pattinson & Defoe.
Joker (2019)
no comic book movie here!!
Todd Phillips JOKER tale is fantastic! Well written, blend of Taxi Driver and The Killing Joke if you ask me. Joaquin Phoenix deserves an Oscar nod for his portrayal. Those of us from the Bronx will see and recognize a lot of our neighborhoods as it becomes the new Gotham. Can't say enough about how much I loved the direction Todd Phillips took in giving us a different take on the Batman/Joker storyline.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)
Monsters 👍🏻 Humans 👎🏻
Every scene involving the Russell family are the most annoying, frustrating and horribly acted scenes put on film. Monster scenes and fight scenes are worth the watch. Just FF⏭ every time these 3 actors appear on screen. All the other actors do a good job. (Watanabe, Dance are great) The human element in the other films, Godzilla, Kong Skull Island, never bothered me like this one did. Unnecessarily too long due to all the screen time taken by these 3 terribly acted characters, which slowed it down and got boring in the middle of the movie. Hope they get it together for Kong vs Godzilla, and please, keep the Russell family far far away!
When They See Us (2019)
Powerful!!!
Loved every second of this mini series. Took me back to that time. Kudos to the wardrobe, cars and music people on this series. This true and heartbreaking story of the Central Park 5 is the best series I've seen in all of 2019. They deserve every praise and nomination that should be coming their way. I totally remember living in NY during this time and how these kids got robbed of their freedom. Glad someone told their story with class, heart and finally truth. I give a 10 out of 10
A.D. The Bible Continues (2015)
This series should get picked up Netflix !!
Really enjoyed this series, but it seems to have gotten canceled after 1 season. Someone call Netflix!!
The Shape of Water (2017)
Del Toro's worst!
Don't have a clue to what all the hype was about in this film, besides an outstanding performance by Michael Shannon. Cinematography and sets were great but the story was as predictable as it was unlikeable. Your not missing anything if you pass on this one on movie night. Best picture at the academy awards shows how the academy is lost to what mainstream movie goers enjoy.
Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
I give up...
I've tried for years to get into the whole Blade Runner film with all the cult following it has, I've seen 3 different cuts of the original and now this one, and it's just lacking on so many levels. Visually they are great but the storyline is just slow paced and makes you feel your watching a silent movie at times. I give up.
Roman J. Israel, Esq. (2017)
Icon.
How this gets a low rating shows that no one knows what a drama film intails. I've actuallt read some reviews complaining that it had to much dialogue. What!?! Isn't that what a drama film is all about, great dialogue? Maybe they were expecting for Iron Man to make an appearance. Well, Denzel is fantastic is this well written, great story of a man who loses his way. Colin Farrell was solid, good work all around by entire cast. Denzel consistently proves, he's an icon.
Justice League (2017)
A pattern is forming...
So, I didn't love WATCHMEN until I saw the ultimate cut, didn't like BATMAN V SUPERMAN until some questions I asked while watching in the theater were answered by the extended cut. Hopefully they'll be an ultimate cut of this one that would raise my rating. Is this a pattern with Zach Snyder films or is it me??
Eric Clapton: Life in 12 Bars (2017)
Fantastic!
No clue how this gets such a low rating. Great job documenting the life of legend Clapton. Learned this if his childhood that I was not aware of. Loved it!
The Florida Project (2017)
Can't believe I made through the whole thing...
A complete mess. Horrible unbelievable acting by the whole entire cast except Dafoe. Watched it because it was highly recommended to me and I don't see how. Don't bother with this one.
