Cliched vengeance tale
17 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Mukhosh is an official remake of the Malayalam film 'Anjaam Pathiraa' (2020), and I haven't seen that yet, so this was supposed to be a 'new' story for me. Unfortunately, Mukhosh is a cliched vengeance tale that we've seen many times before and barely proffers us anything NEW. If you've watched enough crime-thrillers, you would guess the 'climax' from a mile before.

I didn't like the character of criminologist Kingshuk, played by Anirban Bhattacharya, at all. In the very first scene, he prophesies that this murderer has NO PERSONAL REASONS, but that's the complete opposite of what happened, and I sensed that was a dense scene. Even the way Anirban acted in the film was underwhelming at best; his wife seemed more interested or inherent to solve the cast.

Similarly, Tota Roy Chowdhury's depiction simply didn't fit the character IMO. The backstory should've had more substantial consequences to make it a strong plot. I didn't conjecture the point of casting Sohini for just a moment.

Rajkahini (2015)

Rajkahini – No Man's Land!
16 October 2015
Rajkahini – No Man's Land! by http://fb.com/iamAlekhyaDas

The film demos how a group of women can stand up in a man's realm.

The plot rotates around a brothel which falls among the international boundaries during the partition of Bengal of 1947. How different people's life is built with this bordello and how everyone's life changes after the news of the partition is what Rajkahini is all about.

Rajkahini references the pitiless instances happening over the state due to the partition. People's lives are becoming a muddle and they are made to detriment. In the interim, a group of prostitutes from that very brothel stand against the entire barrier and held their heads high with superiority.

The brothel was established by Begum Jaan played by Rituparna Sengupta who is the most intrepid lady you'll ever see. She aids all the other dwellers of the household to be resilient like her and helps them to stand against the world and menfolk. She doesn't want a single support from a man and she'll perish without taking a single's man help if she has to. She has completely made the flick what it is. She is the toughest feature of the entire whorehouse and the movie.

[ I won't be sharing too much because it will be a spoiler.]

Everyone has acted their finest. Rituparna Sengupta, Zoya Ahsan, Rudranil Ghosh, Parno Mittra and Jisshu U Sengupta were the best of the best.

Cinematography and Composition were exceptionally marvelous. The bumpy and proportioned close up shots and the prompt cam action scenes were well shot.

Director Srijit Mukherji deserves a respect to put up such a picture, which illustrations that a woman can do more than a man can do. He indicates that a woman can triumph a man's world and make it her domain.

Every film has its pros and cons. This movie has them too. The opening sequence Ridhima Ghosh will give you shivers down your spines. The love sequence between Rudranil and Zoya will make you smile and 'awww'. Rudranil's valiant ransom will also make you have admiration for him. The climax scene featuring Bucchki shows how a woman can slay a man within 'flashes' without actually slaughtering them.

Rajkahini also displays how an exceptional movie can get off course with a single, final scene. The climax fight sequence could have been so much enhanced. It was ridiculous and everyone seating around the theaters were really dissatisfied by the part before the final credits. It was supposed to have a burning, destructive effect on you, but it was too icy and almost wrecked the entire pinnacle.

Overall, ‪‎Rajkahini‬ is a must watch movie for every woman and is dedicated to expatriates and the fighters of the partition.

'Jaye Hai' to the 'Never giving up' spirit!

Sujoy Ghosh, a Ray Fanatic!
26 July 2015
Warning: Spoilers
It's not a review in some sense, but I would like to represent my views on his short. I'm following Sujoy Ghosh's work from the beginning and I'm a fan in a way after watching Kahaani. Who isn't? So, in Kahaani there are few references from Ray. Like the 'Running Hot Water' which was liked by audiences all over was taken from Ray's Joy Baba Felunath. The film also makes several reference to Satyajit Ray's films such as Charulata and Aranyer Dinratri. Everything is fine till now, it's completely okay to take some references. Even I thought Kahaani's climax being similar to Taking Lives is just a coincidence. But after watching ‪Ahalya‬ which is totally lifted from Professor Shonku o Aschorjo Putul, I am pretty sure that Sujoy Ghosh mimicked that scene as well. At least give an acknowledgment, so that more people can read the original story.

So Ahalya is actually a great idea, if you aren't aware of the original ray story. Average watch for me.

Baahubali l The Beginning is almost a heroic, attractive, and wholly entertaining visual exhibition!

Review by: http://fb.com/iAlekhyaDas

The story revolves around a powerful young man named Shiva, who unwittingly converts into a protector for a Kingdom he never knew was his. His return to his nation is the commencement of a bout against the sins.

Basically, the story is a revenge story filled with some melodrama, but Baahubali is something else. This film is praised to be the most extravagant creation in the history of Indian cinema.

The cons of Baahubali- 1. Typical melodrama. 2. Unnecessary lovemaking 3. Some action scenes are really too much. The hero does some Mission Impossible n Furious 7 mixed actions! 4. The story in some places.

The pros of Baahubali Almost everything else 1. VFX VFX VFX 2. Theacting is quite good 3. Great BGM 4. Cinematography 5. Stunts except some haphazard ones 6. Direction 7. The courage to make such a movie

Overall, I would say, this is a magnificent effort to have an Indian movie like the '300'. I never enjoyed a dubbed South Indian movie like this. Go watch it for its war sequences, i.e. The second half to be fair and square. Kudos to the notion of making movies like this. Don't watch it on your computer by downloading it. Go watch it on the big screen to enjoy it in a big way.

Every beautiful thing has flaws in it. Every beautiful films also gets some negative reviews.

"Har khoobsurat cheez main daag hota hai. Har khoobsurat films ka critics reviews bhi ha-mesa ac-ha nehi hota."

This film has many flaws. I am not able to write a detailed review about this entire movie, but I'll just say, 'If you believe in true love, go watch this one'. The story may not be that good, but the emotional attachment I have from this movie is exceptional. I am not an Emraan Hashmi fan or a big adorer of romantic movies. I am a big thriller-crime lover, but I don't know why I love this film a lot. The music is quite well and goes well with the movie. The cinematography is amazing. Everyone acted their part quite well, but you'll fall in love with Emraan Hashmi.

So please don't listen to the bad reviews and stuff. Watch this movie.

Moviewise - 3/5 Emotionally - 5/5

The movie is flawed but sensible, practical and relevant and deserves a watch.
9 June 2015
Dil Dhadakne Do looks redundant from the surface, but it's meaningful inside. The film is based on a family kinship. Here the story is being portrayed by a rich but dysfunctional family. Their world is filled with quandaries, just like any other family. The account is about how they look into these problems and try to overcome them to make their lives peacefully.

Everyone acted their best. I found Anil Kapoor and Ranveer Singh the best of the lot. I adored Anushka and found Ridhima Sud dainty. Yes, the dog aka Pluto is cute and narrates the story in his way.

The soundtrack is terrible, but the background score is quite good. The cinematography is superior.

Zoya Akhtar's director is good. She takes a diverse yet good case. Don't equate this with her earlier one.

Overall the movie's runtime is big, but deserves a watch. The movie is flawed but sensible, practical and relevant to our life in some way or another.

Khaad: "Cinema is nothing but an illusion." More you ruminate, more you get entombed in.

Please visit: http://iamalekhya.blogspot.in/

I really had a lot of prospects about this movie. First of all, this was a Kaushik Ganguly show. Secondly, the trailer and the cast looked promising.

So the story looks meek, or I should say it just appears simple with a lot more to discover by stages and frames. A bus carrying a group of travelers from the Mal Junction Station to the knolls falls into a gully. They are left to bout and live against the remote and blackest place of enigmas of nature. As time goes by, we get to identify each other's layer. What happens next is the story of Khaad.

It is a pure cinematic experience with a subtle and intellectual depiction of relationships, people's existence and secrets. It makes us go through a state where we stab to accept the fact and forget the complete counterfeit stories or the fairy tales; we overhear and try to believe all the time. The film gives us an opportunity to experience and comprehend the human nature closely under the unexpected moments of life.

I really adore such survival flicks which truly make me think about me, my being and people around me. Like how many of them are truly real? Are they actually that decent or evil or they are Oscar eligible real-life artists? Perhaps, they are genuine and you are thinking too much or maybe you are the just correct, they are camouflaged beings. The reality is behind their masks, but there is always a time when that mask fades away and the fact comes to life. Something like this transpires in the picture as well. It is really an astonishing writing, something new.

Acting – The movie has got a bunch of noble and fresh actors. Kaushik Ganguly, Ardhendu Banerjee, Lily Chakraborty, Rudranil Ghosh, Gargee Roy Choudhury, Kamaleswar Mukherjee, Pallavi Chatterjee, Kaushik Banerjee, Masood Akhtar, Bharat Kaul, Saheb Bhattacherjee, Tanusree Chakraborty, Mimi Chakraborty, Tridha Chowdhury, Rajdeep Ghosh. I really loved Mimi Chakraborty, Rudranil Ghosh, Kamaleswar Mukherjee, Lily Chakraborty and Rajdeep Ghosh's acting among all the others.

Direction – Kaushik Ganguly is one of Bengal's greatest directors now. He is fetching up marvelous thoughts for building a movie. You can continuously bond yourself with the characters of his flicks. He renders the relationship so well. He rocked Khaad as well.

The music is really gentle. "Ami Achi" by Arijit is astounding and goes picture-perfect!

The finest thing about this movie is that it never gives a "loo break". It is completely riveting. Of course, you need to be linked with the genre. Don't except an otherwise crime-whodunit and suspense stuff. The director gives a shocker at the finale, which was quite foreseeable though, but it can be a dumbstruck moment for many. You can never outshine the dark "Khaad", right? A must watch for film devotees 

Interstellar (2014)
9/10
Interstellar: "Expect the Unexpected" should be the tag-line of every Nolan movie. Same goes for this movie as well. Interstellar is a dazzling, striving, fascinating journey.
9 November 2014
Warning: Spoilers
DON'T MISS THE MOVIE!

Note: My Analysis and the real 'Nolan'/movie explanations may diverge. Abide with that. He is the monarch of all the mind-blown flicks.

Interstellar is a smart blend of passions in a sci-fi movie. Nolan always adds scarce emotions to all of his pictures which make me tear up all the time, but this is his most sentiment betrothed movie for sure. He has perfectly combined the bond between a dad and his daughter. This movie proves that our love can truly surpass time and space; that no matter how remote that special someone be, they will always matter to our hearts against the cold milieu of survival.

Plot: The world is getting shattered by drought and famine, making it unbearable for beings to endure. In the meantime, Cooper finds a surreptitious NASA epicenter and goes out for a voyage to save the world. A group of discovers must travel beyond our solar system in search of another planet capable of Humankind. In the expedition, they had to face a lot of footraces which coerce them to select between their family and the future of the human race.

Now the movie goes quite clean till the first one and half hour. After that, The Endurance crew gets to know the actual enigmas of this entire trip.

1. The secret NASA center's Professor Brand has got two strategies of saving the civilization. First, he promises Cooper that he will solve a forward-thinking equation, which will help the NASA to take the Earth's surviving populace into the space by launching a massive space station. Second, if he fails in the solution, NASA has made plans of reaping a bank of fertilized human ova serving them to keep alive the humanity after earth gets wholly devastated. The Endurance's job is to find the flawless habitat for the subsistence of the embryos. They were to be located in artificial wombs and carried to term. Of course, the crew will devote the next 10-15 years taking care for a bunch of kids before using the next set. The population bang would be exponential since the next batch would be larger because there were more people available to take care of them. Later we got to know that entire journey was a swindle and Plan A was near to impossible. So plan B was the real plan.

2. Matt Demon (Dr. Mann)'s act was unforeseen. He proved that when you are in a dying condition, the only thing you care about is you and your family and nothing else.

The climax comes next. I personally believe that the movie should have ended in a different way. The paradox they shown in the film and Murph's apprehension of who "the ghost" was, to Matthew's realizing what was going on, to that specific scenario in the black hole, to him finding his daughter and the full Murphy station sequence. I would have adored if Coop would have died entering the Black Hole. The earth would have died out and Anne Hathaway and Edmunds start a new civilization. This would have left a cult ending, but Nolan always wants a twisted finale to all of his flicks. Nevertheless, the actual climax was nice as well.

Apart from this the other departments were bang on, Heart touching acts, Superb Soundtrack, Wonderful DOP work, fabulous direction, etc. I felt that there was a problem with the sound-mix. The subtitles assisted well though.

Anyways, I loved this much, much, much more than Gravity. I hope Interstellar gets plentiful Oscars this year like Gravity did.

Must Watch!

Buno Haansh (2014)
8/10
Dev's Best Performance and A must watch for Bengali film lovers.
24 August 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Buno Haansh - The Movie Review

Link -> http://bit.ly/bunohaanshreview

*MAY HOLD SOME SPOILERS. EVADE IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE*

There are very scarce movies which make sense in real life. Buno Haansh is one of those films. It is a story of a common middle-class lad, Amol who daydreams of getting bigger, not for himself, but for his household and contacts. He used to live a small life covering his love interest, Sohag and his family. He encounters his old colleague who takes him to Madam, the deity of the bad world. Amol gets a chance of living his dreams and gets involve into the hazardous trafficking business. He is absolutely unaware of his track, but he continues to walk or rather run on this new runway, the underworld's runway. He bumps into new individuals on his journey which brings a new definition to his life. This new life has necessity, gluttony, pursuit, money and gore. Will Amol be able to escape from his new life is what the story is all about.

The story is truly eye-catching, credits to Samaresh Majumdar. The director introduces us to all the characters at the first minutes of the movie. Amol stays with his mother, his sister-in-law and his brother. They are living in poverty and somehow exhausted of their condition. He works at a mall where he encounters Robin and the key story starts. He complements emotional factor to the entire design which takes the movie to another level. Amol starts drifting down risky ways with fear as he flies from Kolkata to Dhaka to Bangkok. He is still uninformed of his future. In the meantime, he meets Rijula and his life takes another huge turn and the rest? Better go watch the film.

I haven't read the book, but I overheard that there are many alterations in the script which actually makes the flick better. Amol's sister in law used to be a selfish woman which is totally different here. There are new characters here. Even the climax of the movie is a bit different. I sensed that the director did an amusing job making those modifications. The cinematographer has done a brilliant job. The music should get a 20 out of 10 points, extra 10 points for adding a great texture to the movie. "Zindagi Kabhi Thamti Nehi" is actually the theme of the movie. Shantanu Da, Anindya Da, Chandril da Kudos

Director – Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury takes an entirely different writing from what he actually does, a whodunit instead of an emotional-romantic flick. This actually helps the movie as he adds his own original feels to the film. The film is a bit slow during the first half, but Shoojit Sircar comes to rescue. The climax is outstanding.

Acting – The movie comprises big names. Shankar Chakraborty, Shantilal Mukherjee, Gargi RoyChowdhury, Sohag Sen, Arindam Sil everybody has done a great job. Moon Moon Sen is the ultimate choice for Madam. Srabanti does miracles in his short and sweet role. Tanusree Chakraborty adds a great intensity with her avaricious yet candid role. Sudiptaa Chakraborty – I simply adore her act, with splendid dialogue throwing and great expressions, she boosts the entire movie.

It's a must watch for every film lovers. I'm sure that they will surely love the sentiment and the ecstasy of this film. 8/10.

P.S. I overlooked something? Yes, I suppose. How was our "Mahanayak Dev's acting? Ans – I would say that there is simply no one who could have done Amol's role with such aptness. He worked hard and did an awesome job in this movie. Bonu Haansh is his best performance till date, the BEST!

Non-Stop (2014)
7/10
Non-Stop just as the title advocates is strictly an around-the-clock action packed thriller movie.
25 May 2014
Would be a pleasure if you check my former noobish criticisms here - http://iamalekhya.blogspot.in/

Non-Stop just as the title advocates is strictly an around-the-clock action packed thriller movie.

Liam Neeson crews up with the Unknown director, Jaume Collet Serra. I am a huge fan of his action thrillers like Taken series, Unknown, The Grey, The A-team etc. He is in his sixties now but he looks great as always.

The movie is set on a plane from New York City to London, when the protagonist being a former NPYD and a current Air Marshall gets coercions on his secured line about transferring $150 million in a bank account or a person deceases every 20 minutes. As time goes by, we get to more about his life and chain of increasingly improbable plot twists.

It's truly a rock-hard plot as it is purely innovative and I haven't seen a story in the recent whiles. The opening minutes are firm as the director introduces us to the main characters that we will be spending the majority of our period with including Julianne Moore who was keen and a hostile traveler. The show goes pretty fine as it keeps the audience guessing till the pre-climax where we have some unforeseen twists and turns which was fairly bare. Though I enjoyed the climax but could have been more exciting like the total plot. The action is really incredible especially the climax gun shot.

Acting – Neeson as Bill Marks is one of the greatest reasons for such a great victory of the film. He plays a role of bothered man who gets himself in such a situation. He verifies that he is indeed a great performer and an excellent action hero. Moore is more or less okay in her own way. The backup cast has done a pleasant job.

Director – He has done a terrific job by generating a silence, nervous atmosphere throughout the whole flick. He preserved the movie's pace; leaving no room with needless plasters that tends to slog the story. There are a few plot holes here and there, but the stout performances relief a lot to keep the movie intense and attractive.

Music – Marvelous Exertion! Flawless Soundtrack for such a movie!

Largely a great 1 hour 46 mins journey filled with great suspense, thrill, action, tragedy and few gags. It was overall a fascinating experience with the strong acts creating it a must watch for all action- thriller lovers :)

"The Royal Bengal Tiger – A Good Pleasurable Thriller"

Please visit - http://iamalekhya.blogspot.in/

I really loved the trailer but I had a feeling that the ending twist could be somewhat like one of my favorite Hollywood Classic and I was right.

The story is about an ordinary man (Abir) whose life changes into extraordinary journey when he met his childhood buddy ,Jeet. His childhood friend becomes his motivator and charges him up into a tiger when he stands powerless when a cunning office coworker vandalizes his job, when his companion gets abuse in front of his eyes, when his tenant refuses to pay rent and humiliates him in front of his wife.

The weak point of the entire film lies within its story and the narration style. The first half is a bit dreary as it becomes too predictable about what is going to happen next. Nevertheless, the second half is interesting and I really loved the pace of this half.

Acting – Abir Chatterjee has done one of his best performances until date. From an innocent, weak man he transforms himself into a character with hardly contained fury and spanking poise. He portrayed the character so well.Jeet does something different from his other movies. Here he does not beat the bad people but he helps his friend to fight back the society.Shraddha Das and Priyanka are good

Direction – The movie can be paced the movie a little bit. I love the concept, which he wanted to portray. It is a very good attempt for his first flick.

Music – I liked the song "Bondhu".

Therefore, it is a very nice movie with good thrill all over. It is one time must watch :) However, if you are a Hollywood lover, then you will feel that the ending is quite similar to one of the best thriller-drama. 3.5/5

Movie Review: Yaariyan [2014]

Please visit - http://iamalekhya.blogspot.in/

WTF was that? Thank God i'm still alive ova here.

Those 145 minutes were a total waste!! I horribly regret the 68 bucks I paid for nonsense.

The story was clichéd, phony and nonsensical.

The new actors are pretty annoying -- even Uday Chopra seems Oscar- worthy in front of them.

Deepti Naval was the plus point.

Cinematography + Direction + Choreography + Script = belch!! My neighbor walked away halfway out of annoyance. I too wanted to do that but I had a tasty tub of cheese popcorn to hog up. It kinda kept me engrossed.

The only good thing about the movie is the soundtrack!

One of the worst movie I ever seen in my life. A total wastage of time n 700 mb data

Don't dare to go to cinemas.

Movie Review: Dhoom 3 [2013]

Please visit - http://iamalekhya.blogspot.in/

"Dhoom 3 - Aamir Khan show"

The Dhoom series has always been an entertainment with splendid actions and cool techniques of burglary. But this time there is an exception. It has got terrific action and 3 robberies arose during the entire movie. BUT HOW ARE THOSE ROBBERIES DONE? - No one knows. Only the robber knows that. We only see him running around the entire city to escape from the police. And the main twist or story is just an uncredited version of "The Prestige".

Acting - Aamir Khan *bows down* amazingly done. Even the child actor does outstanding work. Katrina looks stunning during "Kamli" and "Malang". Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra looks same old Jai Dixit and Ali.

Music - Middling

Camera Work and Action - Superb

Verdict - Watch it if you are a Aamir Khan fan or a Dhoom series or action flick lover. Though most of the stunts have no logic

Jai Ho : "Good Plot But A Bad Implementation"
17 February 2014
Please visit - http://iamalekhya.blogspot.com

Jai, an upright common man is fighting a retiring war against corruption and unfairness. Honest and incorruptible, he has made it his mission to help as many people as he can. The main theme is quite simple – help somebody and then request that person to lend a helping hand to somebody else – thus forming an ever growing circle of people helping each other. In his mission of creating a unity within a people he crosses paths with an influential political family. How Jai continues his assignment of serving others is the story of the flick.

Just after I appreciate that Salman comes up with something new apart from his regular illogical movies, an army tank arises in the middle of traffic cutting off the hero from the bad guys to save his life. *FACEPALM*

There are more sequences where he smashes, bites and screams like a tiger as if he inspires himself to become a tiger again, Ek Tha Tiger Returns

The screenplay is the major weakness. The movement of the good deed piece has not been logically established. In other words, the build-up to the movement is not very effective. It is the film's backbone and should have been very wonderfully reputable so as to transfer the audience emotionally in the climax. A good screenplay is the major forte for such a film.

Acting – Salman Khan acts better than his other films. Tabu does good work; she enhances charm to the show. Rest of the cast is Satisfactory.

Direction – Sohail Khan does an average job. His direction in the dramatic scenes could have been better.

Music - A big letdown. But Sandeep Shirodkar's background music is decent.

Actions – Nothing new. Same old Salman Khan action.

On the whole Jai Ho is a re-creation of the Telugu film, Stalin, which itself was inspired by the Hollywood film, Pay It Forward. So Jai Ho is concoction of normal Salman Khan Movie and an excellent Mimi Leder flick. So it's a moderate one time watch if you are a Bollywood fan or else I will recommend u to watch Pay It Forward

An awesome journey through continuous laughter and a good moral.
22 January 2014
Ashchorjyo Prodeep Second Venture of Anik Dutta. An awesome journey through continuous laughter and a good moral. I really loved the way the fairy tale was linked to a commercial truth. The unexpected climax was really shocking and little sad. Slightly inspired by Ray's classic Parash Pathar. Acting - Superbly done by Saswata Da, Roni Da and Sreelekha Mitra Music - Goes well with the movie.. Cinematography - Good! Dialogues - Best part of the movie! Direction - Great work done by Anik Dutta

P.S. A must watch movie .. One of the finest movie of this year.. Full- on entertainment! But some scenes including the ending, maybe a bit vulgar or disturbing for U/A audience !

"A wonderfully done fusion of the lifestyles from past and present, from history to fiction."
21 January 2014
Jaatishwar is a Bengali musical romantic drama. The plot mainly environs around the life of Hensman Anthony, a Bengali language folk poet. As the story traffics forward we get to know about the life stories of the other characters which were somewhat related to Anthony Firingee. There are many twists and turns in the story which I won't reveal for keeping the mysteries intact. I must say I am completely in love with the narration style of the entire flick with the magnificent melodies in between. Simply a prodigious director can depict the two periods running in parallel, the past and the present to pull the resemblances in between which makes the audience go awestruck.

Acting: This flick is actually the one of the best performances of Prosenjit Chatterjee. He conveys such a power-packed act in both the roles especially the character of Kushal Hazra is simply outstanding. No will dare to take a role in which individuals will start compare him for laying himself in Uttam Kumar's shoes. Jishu Sengupta has done a respectable job. Even I adored Swastika Mukherjee's role. Talking about the other credited casts we have Abir Chatterjee, Rahul Arunoday Banerjee, Mamata Shankar who are really good in their roles. I loved Ananya Chatterjee as Joggeshwari, it is short and stunning.

Direction: As I said before only a great director can portray such a wonderful narration. Though some scenes are a bit slow still it will not affect the entire film for sure. He has taken the best cast and best man for music and added his own ingredient and made it into a musical masterpiece. Srijit Mukherji's best after Baishe Srabon, for me.

Music: one word, Outstanding! It's a Kabir Suman show. Even the BGM by Indraadip Das Gupta adds a new feel to the movie.

Cinematography and Editing: Soumik Halder and Bodhaditya Banerjee - Sadhu Sadhu !!!

Verdict: I am really sad to see the empty seats of theaters. Please go watch #Jaatishwar. A must watch for all Bengalis, especially those who thinks it's a curse or do not feel proud for being the same. 4/5

Mountains of the Moon come to reel.
24 December 2013
Please visit - http://iamalekhya.blogspot.com

Mountains of the Moon come to reel. One of the best movies made lately. It is one of my favorite escapade hardback and I am really happy with its reel product The movie is a true gem and bids extensive detailing of African biota. Director adds some of his own accounts to the story which is something new, which could have been edited but still it doesn't matters to you in the end. You'll actually love it.

Acting: Dev has a done fabulous job. The character of Shankar is drawn very well by him. Especially the last 15 minutes, he has done his best till date. It seems that he was made for this role. Gérard Rudolf does a praiseworthy job, loved him as Diego Alvarez.

Direction: Salute to the director, Mr. Kamaleswar Mukherjee for being audacious to make such a movie. He is the one who bring to us Dev in an innovative way and makes Gerard Rudolf speak Bengali in a Portuguese accent.

Cinematography: Soumik Halder does it yet again. Every bit of scenes he captured, from the landscapes to the chased thing, he made us Teleport to Africa.

Sound: I liked the Background Score but it could have been better for such a paced film. The song at the end credits is too average.

VFX: The worst part of this delight. When they can spend such a big amount, they could have spent some more for the VFX. The computer generated Volcano was bad and the Buniyp was terrible.

Verdict: A Bengali movie is up over the moon with this production. They went directly to Africa which is truly a daring task to attempt. Kudos to that!! Make it a success for the entire Chander Pahar team, Go and watch it. It's a must watch one. 4.5/5 for sure!

'DJANGO UNCHAINED' is a kick-ass entertainer!

Like any other Tarantino film, it has a tinseled appeal and bold sentimentality, embroidered with mind-blowing acts from all its actors.

Set in the eighteenth-century era of the Deep South and Old West, the film trails an unbound slave (Jamie Foxx) who treks across the United States with a bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) on a task to rescue his wife (Kerry Washington) from a harsh and alluring plantation owner (Leonardo DiCaprio).

Unlike other Tarantino flicks, which are portrayed in chapters, Django Unchained has a linear narrative. It reliably rotates around the two characters, played by Foxx and Waltz, who share practical aims. With a runtime of quarter to three hours, the film could've been a dull watch, but the screenplay is so captivating that never do you comprehend the length. Tarantino gives you one attractive scene after the other, keeping you deeply absorbed in the whole drama. In addition to this, the humor and brazen-faced style is consistently upheld to make the proceedings even more delectable. The writing is immaculate, although, it isn't as shrewd as his preceding film, 'IngloriousBastards'. Each character is sketched so beautifully that it leaves a permanent mark on the audience.

There are scenes that make you laugh, like the one where in the middle of chasing Django and Dr. Schultz, the masked goons fight over the silly issue of who made such clumsy masks. In fact, Jamie Foxx's crude style and attitude, while shooting, or horse-riding, or even while just silently looking, are respectfully mirthful every single time. Then there are raw action scenes filled with blood and gore, and some disturbing depictions of slavery prevailing in the region during the era presented. It touches some really sensitive issues of slavery of the dark-skinned, albeit, upholding the playful flavor of the film. Everything, right from the sets, to the costumes and dialogues seems absolutely authentic.

Now coming to the performances, since it's a Tarantino film, it goes without saying that the performances are impeccable. Jamie Foxx, Leonardo Dicaprio, Samuel Jackson, Kerry Washington and others are totally apt. But it's Christoph Waltz who shines the brightest. His demeanor is truly magnetic and dialogues, delightfully written as well as delivered. He truly deserves the Oscar he was awarded with.

Tout ensemble, Django Unchained is wildly extravagant, ferociously violent and outrageously entertaining. Those who hate blood gore and action might not relish it, but a "Must Watch" for all Tarantino fans! Rating: 4/5

SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK

Please visit - http://iamalekhya.blogspot.in/

'SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK' is a sensitively soothing romantic dramedy! With an apparently simple yet contextually deep screenplay, it touches your heart at many levels.

Aided by some incisive performances from its cast, the film is an emotional treat.

Pat Solatano (Bradley Cooper) has lost everything - his house, his job, and his wife. He now lives with his mother (Jacki Weaver) and father (Robert DeNiro) after spending eight months in a state institution on a plea bargain. Pat is determined to rebuild his life, remain positive and reunite with his wife, despite the challenging circumstances of their separation. When Pat meets Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence), a mysterious girl with problems of her own, things get complicated. Tiffany offers to help Pat reconnect with his wife, butonly if he'll do something very important for her in return. As their deal plays out, an unexpected bond begins to form between them, and silver linings appear in both of their lives.

The film is adapted from a novel by the same name, by Matthew Quick. The film never attempts to reach those heights of a deeply meaningful cinema or social satires and that'exactly why it succeeds. It provides you with naturalistic experience of a rom-com with grit and emotion of a realist drama. The characters are believable and skilfully sketched. These two hours at the theater infuse positivism and contentment within you. It's a perfectly suitable drama for these anxious times that we live in. There's love and warmth, there's emptiness and heartbreaks, there's optimism and competitiveness , and yet there's contentment in all of this and so much more that life gives. The director gives you a lot to like over here especially the breeziness that he brings to a tale of two misfits trying to make it work. Essentially a comedy, he balances this film perfectly by giving some serious heart to it. It's modern, delightful and absorbs you completely. And in the end you leave with a smile on your face.

Performances are basically the life of this film. A subject like this could've easily got derailed if the performances fell any short of what they are right now. The lead actors give it depth and deliver two of the most moving performances you'll ever see. Bradley Cooper surprises you with his acting prowess. Usuallyconsidered as merely a good looking charmer, he surfaces a totally unforeseen side of his talent. He proves how underrated an 'actor' he has been. Jennifer Lawrence is superb too. Her character has multiple complex shades that she portrays amazingly well. The support cast is terrific, bringing completeness to this fulfilling drama.

All-in-all, 'Silver Linings Playbook' can be perfectly defined as a "serious romantic comedy" which is intelligent and edgy, with romance at its core. Go for it!
