The Good Place (2016–2020)
9/10
Imaginative and Fun
31 October 2016
Honestly, this show is fun. That's the bottom line for it. I have watched the first eight episodes so far, and it's not the funniest or most clever TV I have every watched, but it was fun to view. It's bright, has fun set pieces, and the characters are all great. Kristen Bell and Ted Danson both play their parts beautifully, and are a pleasure to watch perform. One of the most fun aspects of the show is slowly having the rules of "The Good Place" revealed to you as you watch. I hope this show isn't cancelled, because I would be sorely disappointed if I didn't get to keep learning how this world operates. If you haven't yet tried out "The Good Place" it is well worth a shot.

Incredibly spot on satire
2 June 2016
If you like the previous songs and videos of the "Lonely Island" than you will love this film, if you didn't, than you might want to spend your money on something else. This movie was a brilliant on the nose satire of the way of life being lived by a lot of the stars that cameo in this very movie. The jokes walk a fine line between being stupid (but still funny) and clever wit disguised with a "stupid joke" coating. All in all it was a good movie, one of the best new comedies I've seen in a while, and I would definitely recommend it. It can be difficult to create a comedy movie because it's hard to keep a joke going for an hour, Popstar does a great job of this task.

If you're like me, than this movie is about you
15 January 2016
If you grew up geeking out with your friends about Star Wars and comic books than this is a movie for you, because it's about people like you. Kevin Smith set out to make a movie where he saw people like himself on the screen, and he accomplished that goal. The dialogue in this film is fast, witty, and very funny. This movie is a cult classic that if nothing else you should see because of the influence it had on pop culture (or at least geek culture) and the influence it had on indie movie making. Basically you are going to see a day in the life of two average geeks as they talk about Star Wars, play hockey, and rip on each other. I highly recommend this movie and the others that take place in the Kevin Smith View Askew universe (his production company).

This movie is intense
5 January 2016
With Hateful Eight Tarantino set out to mimic the spaghetti westerns he use to love in his youth, and I guess he sort of accomplished that in his Tarantino sort of way. IF anything, the Hateful eight is intense. The entire movie the amount of tension in the room is palpable, and incredibly believable. Throughout the movie you are anxiously trying to figure out who in the room is the one Samuel L Jackson's character is accusing of lying. Overall the film was very enjoyable, though I feel at times it went a little too far just for the sake of having gone that far. Other than those brief excursions into the insanely overly sexual and graphic it was an overall great film, with some great twists, that you should absolutely not bring your kids too or anyone else you care about for that matter.

Point Break (2015)

Visually Stunning
28 December 2015
This movie looks gorgeous, without a lot of substance, and that's OK. This movie is clearly not going to win any Oscars for its plot or writing, but if you want to see a beautifully shot film with some very cool action sequences, this is the movie for you. I went into the movie not expecting a lot after seeing all of the reviews for it, but I actually ended up really enjoying myself as I watched it. Sure it is not a great movie, but why would any one expect it to be? It was a fun movie, and the main actors played their parts well enough. Overall if you are bored while it's in theatres and want to see a fun movie or if you are looking for something to do one night once it is on DVD, this wouldn't be a bad pick.

The Visit (I) (2015)

Scary enough with a little heart
28 December 2015
The Visit will not be a movie remembered when discussing the film catalog of M. Night Shamalan. In fact it might not be a film that is remembered when discussing horror movies that came out in September of 2015. That said, it was enjoyable enough to go see. There was a decent amount of scares when watching in the theatre, and we enjoyed ourselves while watching it. The character Tyler, played by Ed Oxenbould, was the standout character for me. He was incredibly fun to watch and added a lot of heart to the movie, really the only heart it had. Hopefully this actor continues working and we will see more of him in the coming years.

Creed (II) (2015)

Rocky is back and as good as ever
22 December 2015
Creed lands all of it's punches. Creed (Played by Adonis Johnson) is a character that you want to see win and succeed. Every time he is in the ring you are 100% behind him. When he is hit you feel it with him. Stallone as Rocky is as great in the character as he's ever been. Overall a stellar performance from the cast and I would consider to be one of the best movies in the "Rocky" family. If you are on the fence about seeing this movie I urge you to try it out. The biggest detractor from this movie is that it is full of clichés. But if a movie can take clichés and somehow make them feel new and fresh who can really say that is such a bad thing.

One part original story, one part remake, all together great movie.
22 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Those complaining about this movie being too similar to Episode IV A New Hope simply do not understand what this movie is trying to accomplish. This movie is meant to parallel the original journey undergone by Luke Skywalker and friends while simultaneously creating a new cast of characters for the next generation to grow up with, and look up to. And they accomplished their goal. Rey, Finn, and Poe are some of the most likable characters I have seen on film in some time, and I look forward to following their adventures in upcoming movies. Overall the best judge of a movie is how well it can hold up as a film on it's own and not with the rest of the series it belongs to. And whether or not you have ever seen a StarWars movie before I believe you will enjoy watching StarWars The Force Awakens based on it's own merits, it's compelling cast, beautiful cinematography, and epic space battles.
