Saturn (1999)
Complex & Controversial
Tradeoffs, consequences of decisions, layers and parallels embedded in a perfectly-paced, exhilarating, action-family-romance. The family part is enhanced thru the device of home-movie/memory footage. What does romance mean & does it count for anything? Love at first sight? So tenuous. The city provides a backdrop for the action & I love that he takes the subway often, between motorcycle & car rides that elude police while taking care of business. School is not nearly as titillating.
Drew (Scott Caan) lives 5 different lives at once and all of them vie & suffer. Can he determine what part of himself takes precedence?
Bill Nye Saves the World (2017)
Funny, provocative, informative and fun!
Bill the educator dons the lab coat of a nerd and with the help of his vivacious millennials cast explains in graphical, but exact terms the crux of modern scientific issues, such as climate change and changes in our oceans. There is also a round table discussion with several experts and some (perhaps dismissive) discussion around the nuclear power option, a wonderful field trip to Venice by the gorgeous Karlie Kloss, a skit featuring musician Desiigner and some really fun lab demonstrations. I particularly liked how he showed the acidifying effects of carbon dioxide using his own breath to turn a solution a different color. The whole show is high energy, upbeat and hilarious in the dweebish way only Bill Nye can pull off. Must see.
