One Of Us Is Lying (2021–2022)

Easy binge. Great if you like high school shows.
21 October 2021
Somehow this show was trying too hard and missed the mark. It should have been great; the music, camerawork, original book etc are all supposed to be great in theory but feel forced in practice. The show doesn't really flow, it cringy some of the time and the acting could be better. It is however a perfectly fine rainy day binge. The whole thing is mildly exciting and definitely beautiful to watch; the sets, actors and costumes are all easy on the eye. As a fan of high school shows and novels I was happy about the show but a bit disappointed. The book was awesome. I however did like the changes that the show made to the storyline. Both stand well on their own. Neither was a murder mystery to me, the solution was obvious from the start but it was nice to see it play out.

Oh well

The music is nice and the movie is at least colorful. So a fine experience for the eyes and ears but a death to my braincells. It is such a incoherent mess of a script and everyone is so unlikable and childish. Can we please get some less problematic content for teens, please?

Easily binge-able show to enjoy and learn from
26 August 2021
Highly entertaining and fun, colorful high school comedy- drama. Really multicultural and well written. Some real life serious issues like culture and being an immigrant. Grief and workplace sexism. Devi, the main character is mostly insufferable and so selfish throughout, but you somehow root for her anyway.

Bo Burnham: Inside (2021 TV Special)

Art is a lie, nothing is real
1 June 2021
The whole spectrum of feelings I went through during and after watching Inside were brutally real. Bo Burnham is incredibly talented, smart and creative.

As with the ending to Make Happy, I think he was leaning into the emo side a bit, he did edit the whole special himself so he knew exactly what he was doing. At least I hope so because otherwise someone needs to give him a hug and tell him that he is going to be fine! I can't handle this.

Interesting insides into the creative process, the craziness of lockdown and the world right now. Wrapped in catchy songs, silly dance moves and surprisingly awesome lighting, all within one room. Bo keeps getting better and better as an artist!

Thank you.

Wonderful show. If you are a fan of Bo Burnham's material, then you know what to expect. A great, well thought out idea, expertly executed that will have you laughing one moment and feel sad the next. Witty, funny and still full of emotion and meaning. There isn't really anything like this show out there. Well done, well done! Even if this show was made 8 years ago, it is still just as relevant. If not more so.

YES! Say it louder
30 April 2021
As a gender non-conforming queer feminist I related to every word in this comedy special. I laughed, felt heard and got angry because it is so real. Truly amazing.

Should be a mandatory watch.

Hannah Gadsby knows how to structure a show and be on point and entertaining while doing it. Yes, YES!

Shadow and Bone (2021–2023)
8/10
Decent show, good adaptation
27 April 2021
It is a bit silly, and some of the dialogue is cringe worthy. It is a YA fantasy novel adaptation after all. It has however taken the slow and problematic bits (like the assisted suicide and hopefully Mal will be more understandable of powerful women going forward) out of the show. Added the Crow storyline to it which makes it more fun for sure (I liked that book series way more than Shadow and Bone) but also a bit more choppy. Great casting all arounds. Diversity and they look how I pictured it in my head for the most parts. Alina is stupid and stubborn in both the show and book, I disliked her a lot. The Darkling, General Kirigan is a really compelling anti-hero. His motives are somewhat good and understandable but his greed for power shadows the cause. He is a bit more complex in the book I felt. But still a great job and casting.

All in all fine, I will definitely continue with this series when season 2 comes out.

Exactly what I expected and more.
12 March 2021
I expected a big monster battle, beautiful landscape and some hot actors (yes I am looking at you Tom Hiddleston). I got exactly that. But so much more. The cinematography, music and editing is fun and well done. There are also deeper contemplation on what war does to people and how some can not let it go. The humor is also surprisingly funny. Best scene: Hiddleston hacking flying dinosaur birds in half with a samurai sword and a gas mask on!

Ultimate male fantasy

One of those "style over substance" movies. It is super cool, fast paced and makes no sense at all. There is a very thin storyline there. Lot of shooting, car chases and f-boms. James McAvoy is a surprisingly great action star. He is a talented actor in everything he is in. Angelina Jolie is cool as a cucumber and as gorgeous as ever. She is the embodiment of the "cool-girl" trope. She has probably 15 words of dialogue in total in this movie. But she sure looks good driving a red manual sports car.

Disjointed but cute
14 February 2021
I loved the first movie; then read the books so I knew what to expect from the second and third. This one feels a bit weird and in no context with the second movie. It feels more like a collection of moments rather than a story. It is cute but there isn't really anything there. Some strange editing and music choices were made to try to match the first one's charm, without success.

Great introduction into the show
18 December 2020
I have not read the book nor do I know anything about it. Coming into this show completely blind, I thought it was great. This first episode sets up the story, the world and the characters nicely. It hints at the coming conflict. Cinematography and music was spot on. Excited about seeing more of this series. P.S watching because of Alexander Skarsgård and damn that man is still hot af at 44 years old.

Awesome show!! I watched it last year on YouTube original and then just finished re-watching it on Amazon prime (lets get that season 2 folks!! More views) It is from the creators of Deadpool so it is no wonder it feels a bit like it should be based off a comic book. It is so original, fun, funny and absurd. Action comedy with some real heartfelt emotions. There is a violent show down in each episode. If blood and cursing isn't for you then don't watch this and get offended. Wayne and Del are so sweet together. Great performance from Mark McKenna! All the side characters are also hilarious. My favorite joke:"Nizzan Leaf is a car for fairies" "If 151miles a charge makes me a fairy then fit me for a pair of wings"

Crash and burn
10 September 2020
Jo and Amy have no redeeming qualities. I am close to giving up on the show. They are both so demanding, mean and angry all the time. I don't think I have seen a single scene with either of them that wasn't uncomfortable to watch and made me want to slap them in the face and yell: "it isn't about you, chill". It was specially clear in this episode. Otherwise a mediocre episode, mass trauma episode, which are usually great but this one was just dull.

Grey's at it's best!
27 August 2020
This is a beautiful episode that brings out all the best aspects of Grey's Anatomy. The deep friendship of Meredith and Christina, the loyalty the core group has for each other, amazing music choices (Take on me was perfect), big catastrophic accidents that send the hospital into chaos and social commentary (both the assumed terrorist attack and Ms Avory's speech about how the world can change for the better!). Top notch.

Teen fantasy escapism
27 July 2020
Well we all know what we are getting ourselves into when we start this movie. Is there anything whatsoever that is original about it, meeh not so much. Is it enjoyable, kind of. Am I going to watch the third movie that was announced 2 days after this one got released, sure. I did like some changes that were made. Noah doesn't have the violent and possessive boyfriend vibes anymore. His character is so much more likeable in this one. So is Lee's character. I really like the Lee+Elle friendship and it is amazing to see boy-girl friends that are not romantically involved. However, that becomes the main conflict of this movie which I didn't like at all. The whole movie could have been avoided if people just talked to each other!!! Communication is key in all relationships, platonic and romantic. I though Rachel was a pain in the ass the entire time. Elle being super insecure is annoying but maybe relatable for a teenager that is in a serious relationship for the first time. Overall I though this movie was less problematic than the disturbing aggressiveness that was supposed to be cute in the first one and less cringe worthy (though there are definitely some cringy moments, like most of Marco's scenes) but it is also just a bit boring. Just like in the first one it is enjoyable to see the behind the scenes of making it while the credits roll, it seems like they at least had fun making it. I like the cast.

Euphoria (2019– )
9/10
Wow.
6 July 2020
This is an extremely ambitious show. The cinematography is superb, the coloring, the acting, costumes, make up, oh and the music... It is visually stunning, a feast for the eyes, ears and makes (at least me) feel all sorts of feels. It is a dark and gritty show about teenagers, and yeah I did relate hard to it all. The topics are not only your typical high school issues of awkwardness, fitting in, navigating sex and relationships and start partying while trying to keep your parents out of your business. Euphoria goes deeper and darker, it also is about abuse; substance abuse, physical abuse in relationships, emotional abuse. And self abuse. All the characters are complex and have issues that they are dealing with. Don´t get me wrong though, it is funny and highly enjoyable even if it is dark. Be aware though, it is violent and sexual, so if you are sensitive to that kind of stuff, look elsewhere, it is not your usual pink fluff drama high school show. The story is not linear, there are flashbacks and with so many equally important main characters it is difficult to tell one story throughout. It didn´t matter to me, it is still easy to follow and made it more satisfying to watch it for the second time, then it all comes together better, knowing how things will turn out. I also noticed so many more details. This show has been all I can think about in the week since I finished it. Can´t wait for season 2.

What a movie!!
2 June 2020
This is profoundly beautiful and moving film masterpiece. I watched it 4 times in two weeks. It has become one of my favorite movies of all time. It is stunning to watch, beautiful people in beautiful little Italian village. It feels so real that you can almost smell and taste it. Armie Hammer is great but the movie is carried by Timothée Chalamet, what a talent, his Oscar nomination for this role is well deserved and he should have won even. I hadn´t even heard about him before this film but wow, he is no one trick pony either. I went on to watch his other projects in which he, without exceptions, is phenomenal. Timothée and Armie´s chemistry is magnetic, they are so believable in their roles. Their love and Elio´s sexual awakening and experimentation during this sensual summer is relatable. Just to top it off all the supporting actors are great, the soundtrack is on point and the costumes/wardrobe is awesome (including Armie´s short shorts). I would encourage everyone to see this gorgeous and touching movie, even if you are conservative, specially then. How can you disapprove of their beautiful connection? P.s. Armie Hammer does a great job narrating the audiobook, it is however the rare occasion where I found the movie better than the original book.

An outstanding Feel good movie with a heart and substance
2 June 2020
I was coming into this movie completely cold. I haven't seen any previous adaptations, read the book nor seen the trailer for this movie. I had no idea of what to expect except for a story about sisters. I got that and so much more! There isn't a single weak point in this film. The script is great, the acting, directing, costumes, tone and lighting. It is all perfect. Because I had no previous reference I thought it was obvious that Jo and Laurie were never going to end up together and Amy and Laurie were so much more compatible. I thought both of those relationships and the bond between the sisters were all sweet. It is overall a feel good, sweet movie that is just delightful but also brings up the issue of money and freedom for women. Which was relevant 150 years ago and still is unfortunately. The timeline is fascinating, I wanted to rewatch the movie instantly, I didn't but watched it again a week later, just as good if not better on a second watch. Highly recommended, not only for women, but people!

WTF
20 May 2020
I am so confused, what did I just watch? It feels like a movie that is arty and philosophical but it isn't. The only reason to watch this movie is if you have an hour and a half to kill and you really like Timotheé Chalamet. It is a beautiful film at times, aesthetically pleasing. The story goes nowhere and if there is a meaning to it, it is lost on me. Maybe I am not deep or arty enough to understand it. It seems to have some religious undertones. Sometimes it is meditative though to watch something that has a beautiful boy in it and some nice nature shots.

Better than I expected
20 May 2020
If you are thinking about watching this movie in 2020 or later, I assume it is because you discovered the amazing Timotheé Chalamet and are working your way through his films. I would say it is kind of worth the watch. It is not much of a commitment, the film is only an hour and a half. Chalamet has only one or two lines but is on screen every now and then for flashbacks for few seconds at a time and shines in his brief appearances. (What a great casting choice for his talent of course but also because it is fully believable that he is a young James Franco). The story is kind of interesting, it has some insights into unreliable narrative, trauma and drug use, playing the victim and not taking responsibility. I did feel however that the movie could have been better. The story line of the murder trial wasn't working for me. I liked Lena and Steven's relationship but she all of a sudden couldn't handle him anymore and was angry at him, which was too abrupt. All in all, flawed but still a good movie.

well....
14 May 2020
As a newly made fan of Timotheé Chalamet I would definitely recommend this movie. He is for sure great, and cute as always. I had a stupid grin on my face for the first half of the movie. It was funny, quirky and stylish. Beautiful actors, great soundtrack and bright colors. The typical "start dealing drugs and riding the high of money, partying and hot girls" trope was obvious but I forgave it because of how nicely it was represented in photographs. After the half way point I got more and more disappointed with one cliche after another. Then it just ended and left me feeling like there was a great vision there that just got lost and no one knew what to do with the story that they wanted to tell.

Human greed and ignorance.
6 May 2020
Highly interesting movie about true events and which makes you want to scream and punch humanity in the face. Such greed and stupidity. The movie is top notch on acting, storytelling and soundtrack. Informative and innovative. Even if you are not interested in banking or politics then it is still worth watching. A must see so we can hopefully learn from our mistakes (yeah right...)

Oddly human movie about suicide
6 May 2020
I gave this movie a second viewing few weeks after my first. It was just as good, I will probably watch for the third time at some point. Heartfelt, sad but kind of humorous in it's self awareness and sarcasm. It is not a feel-good movie but due to it's tight writing and solid acting (the amazing Cillian Murphy stealing the show, what an actor!) it is oddly human and real. So all in all, great movie, enjoyable and thoughtful.

I watched it when it was released in 2017. I loved it and it stuck with me for those last 3 years. I came back to it and it totally holds up. Beautiful, enjoyable, killer style and sound. Overall the best Black mirror episode to date.
