Dracula (2020)
More BBC garbage
Sadly if something is produced by the BBC you can almost guarantee it's going to be terrible. In the past 2 months they've managed to destroy War of the Worlds, Scrooge and now another classic in Dracula.
Messiah (2020)
Great show to kick off the year
Binge watched this over the last couple of days. Really enjoyed it and can't wait for season 2. Would strongly recommend
The Irishman (2019)
A bit of a let down
I just couldn't get into it. Setting the scene took a little too long and the last half hour was boring. The middle 90 minutes were the best but even those weren't at the level similar films have achieved over the years. I really wanted to enjoy this film and I'm sure plenty will but for me, like another review states, it's kind of like Goodfellas but no where near as good.
Gemini Man (2019)
2 hours of escapism
It's was just ok. I feel my reviews are becoming repetitive but once again we have a really predictable film. Some good action scenes and fast paced thrills, on a sour note though, the CGI was horrible
Rambo: Last Blood (2019)
Is it me or are films getting worse and worse
A pale shadow of First Blood, one of my favourite ever films. This was just so predictable, you could literally guess the entire film once you see the tunnels around 10 minutes in.
American Son (2019)
Nauseating
Mother with enormous chip on her shoulder whines non-stop for 90 minutes
The King (2019)
Probably the best Netflix movie release
For this type of movie I thought the director got pretty much everything just right. The acting, the sets, the music, the storyline, everything worked to give us a thoroughly enjoyable film.
Midsommar (2019)
Wicker Man Reboot
Film was ok, definitely watchable but zero originality, personally I found the leading character irritating too. I think as a stand alone movie it's a 5/10 but I've given it 3 because it just rips of the Wicker Man which was much better
The Loudest Voice (2019)
Fox News Rocks
Fox News is #1, only news channel worth watching, RIP Roger, bit of a letch but that aside a great American
Criminal: UK (2019)
Hopefully a one off series so there isn't a second to endure
Starts off well but then the accused inexplicably caves in at the last minute, second episode follows a similar pattern. The acting is ok but the script is rubbish, crazy that the overall score is so high, I'd expect it to plummet as the weeks pass.
Vikings (2013)
Gutted, was so pumped for this series at the beginning
I felt so disappointed with Vikings, absolutely loved the fist 2 or 3 series but since then, let face it, it's terrible. Never felt this bad about a series since Prison Break went from a 10/10 to a 1/10 in the space n 1 series.
Mindhunter (2017)
On of Netflix's better series
Overall pretty good but series 2 is slightly disappointing. The Brian storyline is boring and Wendy's character is practically forgotten towards the end. The rest of the content is really interesting though and after each episode I was very much looking forward to watching the next, hoping series 3 is equally as entertaining.
Anna (2019)
Really good film
Pretty solid spy flick really. Sex scenes were unnecessary and it's a bit of a stretch that a woman of slight build can overpower dozens men at the same time but that aside the movie was really enjoyable.
I liked the storyline, not too basic where you can guess the ending half way through but not too complicated where you need to rewatch multiple times.
Definitely one of the better films this year.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019)
Nothing new
It's just a re-hash of an earlier X-Men film when Famke Jannsen was Jean Grey, really disappointing and worst X-Men film to date. New fans may like it but anyone who's seen all the X-Men films could probably guess the plot and eventual ending about 10 minutes in
The Dead Don't Die (2019)
Silly and Pointless
I really didn't like this film, I generally prefer to watch films without knowing what they're about beforehand so I've no pre-conceived ideas. However I'm not a fan of jokey films without much plot so if I'd read up on this film beforehand I certainly wouldn't have bothered watching it.
The Curse of La Llorona (2019)
Middle of the road horror
I didn't think it was too bad in fairness, draws parallels with many of the other films in this genre over the past decade and at 90 minutes it doesn't go on too long either
Long Shot (2019)
Nothing original
Has it's moments but is really predictable, you can guess the content and ending only 10 minutes in. It's gone with a bit of a "white shame" and "men are bad" vibe which is also fairly predictable for Hollywood movies this year
The 16th Episode (2018)
Not great
Had it's moments mainly during the early part of the film but overall not one you'll be queueing up to watch again.
Dark (2017)
Give Me A Sign Put Down Your Lies
Such an impressive TV series, how all the past, present and future lives are interwoven so cleverly without the odd plot hole is mind boggling in itself.
Overlord (2018)
Deserves a higher rating
I watched Overlord without knowing anything about it. I thought it was going to be one thing but it turned out to be another and really enjoyed how it panned out. If escapism is your thing then you could do a lot worse.
Upgrade (2018)
Personal favourite sci-fi of the year
When a 2 hour film ends and it feels like it was only half that long it's always a good sign
Shaft (2019)
More Hollywood virtue signalling
Switched of after 10 minutes, that's all it took to squeeze in both transgender & islamaphobia references, boring
Serenity (2019)
Where is Plymouth?
The movie was definitely watchable and various early hints as to what was going on. The concept was basically the same as the 13th Floor film so if you enjoyed that which I did you'll probably enjoy this.
