Scrubs: My Finale: Part 2 (2009)
Season 8, Episode 19
10/10
A perfect ending.
7 May 2009
JD prepares to leave Sacred Heart, but is disappointed when it seems nobody cares.

This final episode of Scrubs (as we know it) is a perfect sendoff to this fantastic show. Most of the guest stars over the past 8 years appear in one touching scene, as JD reminisces on who he met, love, and lost over his 8 years at Sacred Heart. We also see how Dr. Cox truly feels about JD, Carla's goodbye and how JD thought of her as a teacher, Kelso's departure, and we finally hear the Janitor's real name (or do we?).

We also see (as one of JD fantasies of course) what the future MAY hold for his friends and those closest to him, although it's not set in stone. But as JD's final thought says, "Who can tell me that my fantasies won't come true, just this once?"

An astounding season finale, possibly one of the best. BIG thanks and kudos go to Bill Lawrence, the cast and crew, the guest stars, and everyone who made this show what it is. Season 9 has been confirmed, but I highly doubt it will be as good as the last 8, but I hope it will be.

Heroes (II) (2006–2010)
6/10
Struggles to live up to its potential.
15 February 2009
If you notice, most of the positive comments on Heroes were written during the first season. While I think it's not as good as others say, it is the best season so far, but that's not saying much. The second and current (third) season aren't as bad as others say, but they are certainly quite flawed.

The main fault I find with Heroes is certainly the acting. Hayden Panettiere, Jack Coleman, Adrian Pasdar, Masi Oka, and especially Zachary Quinto give good performances more often that their co-stars, but others like Ali Larter just can't pull a good performance off. However, the worst actor on the show is by far Milo Ventimiglia, who I have yet to see do a good acting job.

There is hope for Heroes. "Five years gone", the best episode in my opinion, shows what the show can be if the writing, acting and direction can step it up. I hope it can before NBC decides to pull the plug.

Smallville: Power (2009)
Season 8, Episode 13
1/10
Lanaville.
4 February 2009
Warning: Spoilers
After Lana goes missing, Clark finds Tess in the Talon's apartment, and demands answers from her. We see what exactly happened to Lana after she woke from the "coma" Brainiac put her in.

Not as exciting as it sounds. "Power" is not only by far the worst episode of Smallville's otherwise strong 8th season, but one of the worst episodes of the show. Period. Lana is the main character in this. Not Clark. Not even Chloe. Lana. And the episode suffers dearly for it. A boring, sometimes hypocritical filler episode that makes Clark be a wuss around Lana - again - after progressing drastically in this season. Remember when Clark and Lois nearly kissed in "Bride"? Because I bet you Clark doesn't even remember Lois (Neither does Chloe, apparently).

Tess is the only good part of the episode, and she wasn't even that good. We are lucky Lana leaves in the next episode.

As for Allison Mack's directorial debut, she did the best with what material she was given.

Dark, brilliant, and the best movie of the year.
18 July 2008
The Dark Knight was setting records even before its release. The hype was on since late 2007, and was only fueled by the sudden and tragic death of Heath Ledger in January. Did The Dark Knight live up to the massive expectations? Yes. Definitely.

The story progresses very well, and the 2 and half hour running time flies by. Pay attention though, or you may get lost.

The action is plentiful, and there is just the right amount. Not too much, not too little. There aren't too many explosions just for show, and the special effects look great.

Performances

Christian Bale is spot on as the tormented defender of Gotham. He gives a very believable performance in one scene of raw emotion that I won't spoil here.

Michael Caine once again plays Alfred in a role that makes him a mentor/friend even more so than in Begins, or any of the older movies for that matter.

Morgan Freeman also reprises his role as Lucius Fox, who once again supplies Bruce with the gadgets and cutting-edge technology he needs to combat crime.

Maggie Gyllenhaal, who replaces Katie Holmes from Batman Begins, plays Rachel Dawes, a pivotal character in the movie, and in the lives of Bruce Wayne and Harvey Dent. Even if you think Gyllenhaal may not be much of a looker, she certainly has far more charisma than Holmes in the role.

Newcomer Aaron Eckhart debuts in the series as Harvey Dent, the new District Attorney, and a shining ray of hope on the corrupt Gotham City. Batman thinks he may be the man who may make Gotham no longer need Batman. However, fans of the comics know who he is destined to become.

And last, but most certainly not least, Heath Ledger.

From the trailers alone, I could tell he was going to give a commanding performance, but I was not expecting this. Ledger completely disappears into the role, and is virtually unrecognizable. He easily gives the best performance of the movie as the psychopathic, sadistic Joker. It is unfortunate and sad he will not be able to reprise his role in the third film, if there will be one.

The Dark Knight is easily the best film of the year so far, and by far the darkest. I won't say much, but don't be surprised if you don't get a happy ending.

In my opinion, the best film of the year, and the best Batman and superhero movie ever.

What were you expecting?
30 May 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Looking at the other comments on IMDb and reading through the message board posts, I must say I'm a bit surprised at people's reactions to the first Indiana Jones film in 19 years.

It's unrealistic, they say.

Well, has ANY Jones film EVER been realistic?

A lot of people complain especially in the scenes with the nuclear bomb and the jungle chase. Yes, *****SPOILER***** surviving a nuclear explosion in a refrigerator is ridiculous. Get over it. Then, there's the jungle chase scene. Think about this: *****SPOILERS*****

Crystal skulls? Aliens? Bodies being recognizable even though they've been dead over 500 years?

*****END SPOILERS*****

Taking all of that into consideration, the jungle scene is certainly NOT the most unbelievable part of the movie.

The performances are, well, decent. Ford is typical Indy, Labeouf is believable as Jones' son. It is Blanchett, however, that truly gives the best performance of the entire movie.

Just sit back, relax, suspend your disbelief and remember it's the first time Dr. Jones has been on the big screen in nearly 20 years. So enjoy it.

Cloverfield (2008)
7/10
Simply doesn't live up to the hype.
19 January 2008
Since the untitled teaser trailer was released with Transformers in July, hype and mystery have been on this movie like flies on crap. Sad to say, Cloverfield doesn't live up to it.

The biggest hook this movie has is "What does the monster look like?" I won't spoil it, so don't worry. You DO get one clear shot of the monster near the end of the movie; the rest of the time it's bits and pieces. For the first 10-15 minutes of the movie or so there is no attack. It is a going away party for Rob, the main character.

Which brings me to the camera. I was expecting it to be used for the party, not for the ENTIRE movie. When the camera isn't focused on the monster, I felt sick looking at the screen. It feels a little too realistic most of the time. However, the special effects and sound are spectacular.

I would've given this a higher rating, but the camera, overall forgettable characters and terrible ending bring this to a somewhat generous 7/10.

Smallville: Bizarro (2007)
Season 7, Episode 1
9/10
A solid start to the seventh season.
27 September 2007
After the lab is destroyed at Reeves dam, the dam itself collapses, sending Lex into the bottom of the river, but he is saved by a mysterious blond woman. Clark fiercely battles his doppelganger and turns to John Jones AKA Martian Manhunter for help, and Lois tries to save Chloe by getting her to a hospital. While Lex is in jail, Bizarro shows up and suggests that they join to bring the real Clark down.

"Bizarro" is a great start to the seventh season, but as much as I want to like this season, it's still too early to tell. "Bizarro" and "Zod" were almost exactly the same in my opinion. The fight between Clark and Zod was disappointing, with Zod wiping the floor with Clark only to be defeated by the crystal of El at the last minute. The fight between Clark and Bizarro isn't much better (at least Clark actually hit Bizarro), but other than that, it was a great premiere. However, the 6th season ended up being disappointing despite the premiere, so hopefully that is where the similarities between "Zod" and "Bizarro" will end.

9/10.

Superman/Doomsday (2007 Video)
7/10
There comes a time when even gods must die....
18 September 2007
Warning: Spoilers
***Some minor plot spoilers*** I didn't expect the ENTIRE Death of and Return of Superman storyline to be condensed into a 75 minute film, but I didn't expect the movie's title to be misleading. The creature Doomsday is in the movie for about half an hour tops. The movie mainly focuses on Lex Luthor's clone of Superman he wants to use to do his bidding. When the real Superman rises from the grave, however, he and the clone have an all out brawl to see who is really worthy of defending Metropolis.

Superman: Doomsday left me mainly pleased, but also fell somewhat short of my expectations. I expected to see Doomsday a lot longer in this movie, and I also expected the fight between him and Superman to be more intense, although I suppose that would garner the movie an R rating. A PG-13 rating was suitable, as there was not only violence, but some language. Overall, while falling a little short of my expectations, Superman: Doomsday should please Superman fans and cartoon fans alike.

Woo-hoo!
28 July 2007
Warning: Spoilers
What can I say? I've been a Simpsons fan for practically my whole life, and this movie exceeded even my expectations. I was wary walking into the movie, as over the past 8 seasons or so The Simpsons have undeniably declined in quality. But this movie has reminded me of the glory days. From the opening itchy and Scratchy bit to the finale with Homer and Marge, this movie will have you laughing, and at one point, even sad. This movie was definitely worth going to on opening weekend. I will get the DVD, but you shouldn't wait until then. As for "spider-pig", or "harry plopper", or whatever the hell you want to call that pig, don't worry. It plays no crucial role in the movie.

(And yes it is true, you do see Bart's....member.)

A fan's dream come true.

Absolutely Abysmal.
25 July 2007
Abysmal with a capital "A". This has got to be one of, if not THE, unfunniest show on TV right now. I'm about as anti-bush as it gets, but this show doesn't even get a chuckle out of me. What you think of Bush as a president has absolutely NOTHING to do with whether or not you'll like this piece of crap show. The "jokes" are not funny at all. For example, in a scene when lil bush has his underwear on his head: "Welcome to camp al-qa-eeda!". There is NOTHING funny about that. Is it even supposed to be joke? The commercials that were shown in the weeks leading up to the show, hyping it up, were funnier than the show itself, and that's just sad. Hopefully this does not even get considered for a second season. It shouldn't even have had a first.

A must see.
3 June 2007
Saw this last week on the history channel, and all I can say is wow. There are so many connections between the star wars films and true events in our history that it is astonishing. Whether Lucas connected them on purpose or whether is irrelevant. Watching this documentary made me realize how symbolism is EVERYWHERE in the movies, especially revenge of the sith.

Palpatine as the snake in the garden of Eden and Mustafar being a version of hell, and several connections to Greek mythology are explained and explored. The classic story of hero-turned-monster is explored in other stories. The Empire parallels the Third Reich during World War II, and who could forget Anakin's "If you're not with me, you're my enemy" said in almost the exact same way by George W. Bush.

There are many more things that resemble each other, so watch this documentary to watch them all.

Smallville: Phantom (2007)
Season 6, Episode 22
10/10
A great ending to the 6th season. (Spoiler free review)
17 May 2007
Warning: Spoilers
The 6th season has had its ups (Crimson), and its way downs (Subterranean), and Phantom is definitely one of the ups. The last wraith from the phantom zone is wreaking havoc, and Clark aligns himself with Lionel and the Martian Manhunter to find it before Lex, who is trying to get its blood to put the finishing touches on his army of super soldiers.

Every character has a pivotal role in this episode, and it helps this episode immensely. The 6th season has been disappointing, but this finale is astounding. The cliffhanger is one of, if not THE best in Smallville history, and already has me pumped up for the 7th season.

Spider-Man 3 (2007)
7/10
Very good, but at the same time, disappointing (Spoiler free review).
4 May 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I feel conflicted. A great movie, no doubt, but it could have been so much better.

Even though Danny Elfman was absent this time around, the music was still top notch, and so were the special effects. This movie is definitely a must for next year's best special fx Oscar.

Acting: Very good. Kirsten Dunst gives a surprisingly good performance, Tobey Maguire delivers again, James Franco steps it up a notch. and newcomers Topher Grace and Thomas Haden Church do quite well.

Villains: I was never a fan of Sandman, until now. Thomas Haden Church gave a great performance, and the special effects (especially during the "birth" of Sandman) were stunning. New Goblin: Hardly a villain, only for an early part of the movie. And the villain that drew me, and I'm sure MANY others to the movie, Venom. He gets a decent amount of screen time, but not as much as you'd want him to get.

Now, the bad: Even though it's the longest of the three, the movie still feels a little too rushed, with the 2 love triangles, the story of Sandman, the symbiote, and Harry's story. It should have been longer, or they could have saved some for Spider-Man 4.

8/10. Some missed potential, but ultimately satisfying.

Extremely emotional.
9 April 2007
Warning: Spoilers
This is by far the most emotional episode of the fresh prince of bel-air, and one of the most emotional of any sitcom I've ever seen. When Will's father Lou suddenly returns 14 years after he left him, he leaves just as quickly. This causes Will to realize the closest thing he's ever had to a father is Uncle Phil.

The acting is astounding, and the ending nothing short of heartbreaking. Will Smith stands out as the best actor in this episode. Few jokes are told in this episode, and it does indeed pay of in the end when Will and Uncle Phil embrace after Lou leaves Will. Will realizes he doesn't want or need Lou in his life. A truly special episode.

WrestleMania 23 (2007 TV Special)
8/10
Enjoyable, but somewhat disappointing.
1 April 2007
Warning: Spoilers
This year's mania came from Detroit. To recap (heavy spoilers):

Money In The Bank: Arguably the best match of the night. All 8 superstars gave it their all, and Mr. Kennedy emerged as the winner.

Ashley vs. Melina (Women's championship): The shortest match of the night, not half bad. Melina retains her title.

MVP vs. Chris Benoit (United States Championship): A good match with technical maneuvers involved. One of the better matches of the night, Benoit also retains his belt.

Kane vs. The Great Khali: Didn't really expect much out of this one, just 2 big guys going at it. Homage to Wrestlemania III with Kane body slamming Khali, even though Khali ended up winning.

ECW Originals vs. The New Breed: Not bad, but could've been better. The Originals take the win.

The much ballyhooed Battle Of The Billionaires. Vince McMahon's representative, the Intercontinental champion Umaga, took on ECW champion Bobby Lashley, with Stone Cold as the guest referee. Shane McMahon tried to pull a fast one by posing as ref, but it didn't work. McMahon loses his hair. For all the hype, it was half decent.

Undertaker vs. Batista (World Heavyweight Championship): Not bad, it was a relief to see Taker win the world heavyweight championship and stay undefeated for at least 1 more year at Wrestlemania.

Shawn Michaels vs. John Cena (WWE Championship): One of the best matches of the night, HBK made Cena work. Terrible ending, though, with HBK not only losing, but tapping out to the STFU. Shawn deserves better.

Overall 8/10.

Smallville: Onyx (2005)

The real Lex Luthor.
20 March 2007
Warning: Spoilers
After an explosion involving black kryptonite, Lex is split in two: his normal self, and Alexander, his "evil twin" of sorts. Alexander imprisons his normal self, discovers Clark's secret, and blackmails him into joining him to rule the world.

Onyx is by far the best episode of Smallville's fourth season, in my opinion. This was a weak season, but this is one of the best episodes of the entire show. This is not so much the dark side of Lex, but rather a frightening glimpse of who he will become. If you ever needed proof that Michael Rosenbaum is a good actor, this episode will vanquish all doubts. He is by far the best actor in this episode.

A masterpiece.
11 March 2007
Warning: Spoilers
You may have seen other comments with the title "Can't I give this more than a 10?" or something like that. Let me tell you something: They're absolutely right. The music, cinematography, battle scenes, acting, action, dialogue and special effects are all stunning, especially the cinematography. Gerard Butler gives the best performance of the movie, and Lena Headey and David Wenham deliver great performances too. Rodrigo Santoro was hypnotic as Xerxes. This movie better not be overlooked at next year's Oscars for ANY category, especially directing and - dare I say it? - picture.

Even thought it ticks in at just under 2 hours, 300 is a work of art that will not soon be forgotten. Watch this movie as soon as you can, because it definitely is a must-see.

Smallville: Subterranean (2006)
Season 6, Episode 9

Worst episode ever.
18 February 2007
Warning: Spoilers
This is officially the worst episode in Smallville history in my book. The plot is asinine, and the climax one is of the most anti-climactic I have ever seen for a TV show or movie. Sure, the kid Javier is reunited with his Mom, and that's all well and good, but that's it? No side plot, nothing? This is easily the bottom of the barrel not only for season 6, but the series as a whole. Illegal immigrants in Smallville is absolutely ridiculous, and executed poorly to boot. When the episode ended, I, like many others on the Smallville message board were left wondering, what the hell did we just watch? Are they even trying anymore? Thankfully, the 6th season has turned it around ever since this aired in December, and the likes of this episode will hopefully NEVER be seen again.

1/10, and that's for the scene with Clark and Lex.

Pulp Fiction (1994)
10/10
Friggin blew me away
14 February 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I saw Pulp Fiction one week ago today, and I should have written this review earlier. I heard this movie was good, but damn! I had no idea what I was in for. Quentin Tarantino does one hell of a job directing this movie (and his cameo was decent too), and practically everyone in the movie gives a good performance.

My favorite character is easily Jules Winnfield, played by the one and only Samuel L. Jackson. He is indeed one BMF in this movie, and absolutely OWNED the final scene in the diner.

Another thing I noticed is how many things I have seen on TV and in other movies that payed homage to this movie. Not that I'm surprised, this is probably Tarantino's best (I haven't seen all his movies), and is easily one of the best movies I've ever seen.

Smallville: Crimson (2007)
Season 6, Episode 13

Great, GREAT episode!
1 February 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Oh boy oh boy, THIS was the episode I was waiting for. Justice was great, but this one is right up there with it in terms of best episode for the season. Tom Welling was absolutely fantastic during the dinner party scene. Michael Rosenbaum delivered yet again, especially during the final scene with Clark.

Crimson is easily easily the best red kryptonite episode next to "Red", in my opinion. The scene in which Clark and Lois fly over Metropolis is certainly a classic scene in Smallville's history. That being said, there were actions in this episode that will have repercussions for the rest of the show. Chloe and Jimmy have gone splitsville (pun intended), Martha will possibly reconsider her relationship with Lionel, and by far the most crucial, Lana now knows that Clark is not like everyone else.... and this time, Jor-El didn't turn back time.

One of the best episodes this season. 10/10.

Underrated, one of the best episodes thus far this season .
26 January 2007
Warning: Spoilers
(No spoilers, just plot details) I can't understand such hatred for this episode. You want to watch a bad episode of Smallville? Watch Subterranean - now there's a sack of crap. Tom Welling gives a good performance (I don't say that very often), and Michael Rosenbaum is great, but he is most of the time. The alternate universe scenario seems eerily realistic. The Martian Manhunter, who previously appeared in "Static", returns and tells Clark that the doctor that is the head of the insane asylum where they are being held at is actually a phantom from the phantom zone, and if Clark wants to return to his universe, he must kill him. An overall great episode, with good acting and a decent pace.

Believe it or not, it could have been worse.
20 January 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Is Superman IV as bad as you've heard? Probably. It is pretty bad, but in my opinion, it could have been FAR worse. The performances are decent, aside from Nuclear Man. Christopher Reeve goes above and beyond yet again, despite a mediocre script. The plot is fairly decent, with the exception of Nuclear Man. Good sweet Jesus, this has got to be one of the worst villains in comic book movie history, and by far the worst Superman villain. He does a hell of a job of eerily sucking the hope out of any scene he's in. Superman III, while bad as well, is better than this. This is easily the worst Superman movie (And one of the worst comic book/superhero movies as a whole), and I don't understand how people can say Superman Returns is worse than this, or even compare the two. The plot holes are impossible to ignore. For example, how in the hell is Lacy Warfield breathing in space? Sorry, but I can't suspend my disbelief that much.

Getting back to the title of my review, it could have been worse. The performances could have been worse, the CGI could have looked even more fake, and the plot could have stunk even more. So keep that in mind.

It's no surprise at all that it took 19 years for Superman to reappear on the big screen. 3/10.

Awesome, fascinating documentary.
11 November 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Hardcore Superman fans and Superman fans period will be very pleased with this documentary. This year I became really interested in everything Superman, mainly thanks to Superman Returns and Smallville. This documentary examines Superman history literally from day 1. The 1933 "superman" madman, the 1940's cartoons, the 1950's TV series, the movies, his death at the hands of Doomsday in 1993, the runs on TV with the new adventures of Superman and Smallville, and his triumphant return to the big screen are all thoroughly talked about. All the Supermen, from George Reeves to Brandon Routh are discussed. All the highs and lows of Superman's history are examined, including his downfall in the 70's before Superman: The Movie. Brilliantly narrated by Kevin Spacey, this is truly a must see for all those interested in Superman.

Saw III (2006)
9/10
Good ending to gory trilogy. *Spoilers for all 3 Saws*
4 November 2006
Warning: Spoilers
The first Saw was not that gory, aside from Gordon cutting his foot off and Amanda cutting her cellmate's stomach open. Saw II was a lot gorier, with Xavier cutting the back of his neck off and getting his neck slit. This one, however, by far takes the cake. I have a pretty resilient stomach when it comes to gory stuff on the big screen, but When Lynn was "operating" on Jigsaw's head, my stomach seriously started to churn a little. The way Kerry died was seriously disturbing. This, in my opinion is slightly better than the 1st, but doesn't match the 2nd. More gore and harder traps to get out of make this one stand out over the other 2. I thought it was also cool how it showed John and Amanda setting everything up from the start.

One of the best movies ever made.
2 October 2006
Warning: Spoilers
What can be said about American History X that hasn't already been said? The plot is excellent, the message loud and clear, the performances stunning, and the ending heartbreaking. To think that Edward Norton didn't win best actor surprises me to say the least. Roberto Benigni must have given one HELL of a performance if it was better than Edward Norton's.

One of the things that makes this movie so remarkable is Derek's transformation from cold-blooded, bigoted, ruthless neo-nazi to moral, upstanding citizen. Much of the movie (the black and white part) focuses on Derek's life before and during prison. He goes to any and all lengths to prevent his brother Danny from going down the same wrong path. From an act Danny does early on in the movie, he pays the ultimate price at the end.

To think that American History X wasn't even nominated for best picture is really, not just shocking, but strange too. Strange that movies like this are overlooked all too often these days.
