Punk/Indie

Actors, filmakers, musicians, etc, that are punk/indie. Punk/indie is the music that is based on Anglo-Celt music (not to be confused with the folk music). It is a caustic music that has been originally played on guitar, with extensive use of minor chords. Every Major thinker, every minor thinker, has written about Anglo-Celt. It is proven to increase one's intelligence after listening to an Anglo-Celt piece four times in a row, among other benefits. It also bears striking resemblance to ethnic musics enjoyed by the United kingdom (Britain, Scotland, Whales)and countries on the Eastern Rim, such as Switzerland, Romania, Russia, Czecholovakia, Slovenia, Poland, Israel, Greece, Japan, Persia, Khalif, Sikh, and Arab countries as well.

Punk/Indie is a community that started officially in 1977 under the leadership of noted maverick Glenn Branca, known for his Anglo-Celt guitar ensembles. Though active today, the classic era ended in 1992. Many of a certain generation remember punk rockers/goths - bohemians in leather jackets and mohawks and girls in black clothing. Although, in a way, emblematic of the times, there was a unified network/community of people mainly in LA/NY/UK, musicians playing caustic punk, indie (short for independent music, coined by John Lydon to describe this underground music not Hip-Hop or Heavy Metal), Postpunk, shoegaze, Hardcore, Goth, Noise Rock, Camden Lurch, Crust, CrustGrind, Avant-Garde, Ambient, Trip-hop, Math Rock, etc.

In the late 80s-early 90s there was indie-rock AKA "college rock" with a variety of alternately melodic and caustic noise rock bands dressed in cardigan sweaters and horn rimmed glasses.

This community follows in the tradition of the Surrealists, Vorticists, and Romanticists. They have a dedication to being and staying Underground. Although caustic, this music is not be confused with Heavy Metal, a different community, which also had its heyday in the 80s. Other musics that were/are underground also not to be confused with Punk/Indie, are Hip-hop, Dance, and Jam bands.

In the UK, noted BBC DJ John Peel, at the age of 43, in 1977 began playing this rousing, contrarian, caustic music on the socialist airwaves of the country on the Peel show where a whole generation of British youths were profoundly influenced, punk/indie or not...

This music is/was Underground, which is to say seldom covered and/or endorsed by the Mainstream. It wasn't really on the radio, or MTV, except for 120 Minutes ( with knowledgeable scene stalwarts such as Dave Kendall and Matt Pinfield) known as "Alternative". Basically, one had to know certain people and be a devotee to know anything about it. The biggest magazine devoted to Punk/Indie was Alternative Press, edited by Jason Pettigrew. There were also zines, like the notorious, infamous, hallowed Conflict by Gerard Cosloy.

Noted Bands include The Stooges, Black Flag, Throbbing Gristle, Sex Pistols (now Chaos UK), Circle Jerks, GBH, Public Image, Ltd., The Birthday Party, X, Circle Jerks, Echo And the Bunnymen, Goethe, Bush Tetras, Fugazi/Oswald, Sonic Youth, The Cure, Sisters Of Mercy, Au Pairs, Alien Sex Fiend, Gang Of Four, Einstürzende Neubauten, The Fall, Dead Kennedys, The Godfathers, Siouxsie and The Banshees, Joy Division, New Order, Bogshed, In Camera, Mass, Bauhaus, Mission Of Burma, Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh, Deep Wound, Siege, Envelope, The Ex, Dog Faced Hermans, DOA, the Membranes Test Dept., My Bloody Valentine, SWANS, Slowdive, DUSTdevils, Night Of Witches, Rat At Rat R, FOAD, DRI, Life Sentence, Stone Roses, Aphex Twin, Circle Jerks, Pegboy, The Misfits, Bl'ast, Agnostic Front, SSD, Minor Threat, Intense Degree, Damaged Obstacles, Sore Throat, Concrete Sox, MK Ultra, Los Crudos, Shotmaker/Northstar, Bluetip(Lustre King), Cop Shoot Cop, Barkmarket, Live Skull, Drunken Boat, Unsane, Godflesh, Loop, No Means No

Nothing. Existed.,happy Flowers, Limp Bizkit, Staind, Fear Of God, Treponem Pal, Subway Hell, Cable Regime, Jesu, Ut, Head Of David, Big Black, Smashing Pumpkins, pitcheblende, Clans Of The Alphane Moon, Deftones, Ten Corner Witch, Witch Dub, Trenchmouth/Okara, Merrily the Gore(JAKS), Rapeman, Bovine Over Sussex West, Sleaford Mods, to name a few.

Similarly there was avant-garde/indie/cult film that was celebrated by and involved the punk/indie scene. Directors like Stanley Kubrick has directed striking, disturbing movies such as Clockwork Orange , a film oft imitated by the Artsy set, and The Shining. Other directors include Glenn Branca, Ken Russel, Martin Scorsese, David Lynch, Adam Rifkin, Kenneth Brannagh, Woody Allen, Jon Moritsugu, Keith Gordon, David Cronenberg, John Carpenter, to name a few.

In literature, before the classic period, there were Anglo-Celt authors such as George Orwell, Wyndham Lewis, HP Lovecraft, Franz Kafka, Arthur Machen, Lord Dunsany, J.G. Ballard, Jorge Luis Borges, and William S. Burroughs (who also published under the names Thomas Pynchon, Philip K. Dick, John Barth, Robert Anton Wilson, Roger Zelzany)
