ABC News Studios, in partnership with Neon and Network Entertainment, today announced Brats, a new feature-length documentary from director Andrew McCarthy.
Brats will premiere on Thursday, June 13, on Hulu in the U.S. and later this summer on Disney+ in select territories, following its world premiere at the 2024 Tribeca Festival.
Announced earlier this year, Brats looks at the iconic films of the 1980s that shaped a generation and the narrative that took hold when their young stars were branded the “Brat Pack.”
McCarthy reunites with his fellow Brat Packers—friends, colleagues, and former foes, including Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, Ally Sheedy, Emilio Estevez, Jon Cryer, Lea Thompson, and Timothy Hutton, many of whom he has not seen for over 30 years—to answer the question: What did it mean to be part of the Brat Pack?

While growing up in the 1980s, teen-focused cinema took more chances than it does today. Films that could be rated R were PG, and offensive language and slurs came from the mouths of babes. In my generation’s defense, we didn’t know any better, and time has shown how dated some ’80s themes and characters could be. It was a hell of a time to be alive, and some actors associated with this era are ready to reunite and evaluate their most significant contributions to film with Brats, a new feature-length documentary from filmmaker Andrew McCarthy.

Fox is the latest broadcast network to unveil its fall schedule, and there are some surprises.
We’ll start with the good news: 9-1-1: Lone Star will finally return to the air in September.
The series has been on hiatus for a year, but Fox is expected to give it a big promotional push as it succeeds the original 9-1-1 on Mondays at 8/7c.
16 months between seasons doesn’t bode well for the show’s future, but there’s a chance the numbers will still be strong enough to stay on the air.
9-1-1: Lone Star is being paired with Rescue Hi-Surf, a new drama series that will air on Mondays at 9/8c.
The Arielle Kebbel-led drama has also been confirmed to air along with the 2025 Super Bowl, hinting that Fox believes it will be a massive hit in the fall.

The first Iron Man film led by Robert Downey Jr. was the lynchpin that kicked off the MCU more than a decade ago. The flamboyant billionaire who went on to build a suit of armor from metal scraps in a cave became a household name when it was released in 2008. Downey Jr. would become a big movie star and the character would become synonymous with him.
Tony Stark builds his prototype armor in Iron Man
The film had many memorable moments including Tony Stark’s time with Yinsen as they are kept captive by the members of the Ten Rings. As Stark is tasked with building a Jericho missile, He and Yinsen develop a great friendship through their conversation. However, a deleted scene from the film shows Tony doing some laundry for his captors. While fun, it is understandable why it was removed.

The 2024 Fox upfront presentation featured an appearance by Jamie Foxx in one of his first public appearances since his health crisis last year.
Foxx took to the stage and did his best to crack up the crowd of advertisers, a tall order considering the bar had yet to open. He gave it his all though, showcasing his trademark wit and charisma, reminding the attendees “You got free alcohol after this. Let’s get f—ed up!”
The host of the Fox competition series “Beat Shazam,” Foxx not only took the chance to plug his own series but also Fox shows like “The Masked Singer,” “Animal Control,” and the MLB’s upcoming Negro Leagues tribute game at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama, for Fox Sports. If you’ve been (im)patiently waiting for 9-1-1: Lone Star‘s return, you’re not alone. Rob Lowe, who stars as Captain Owen Strand, is eager for Season 5, on Fox‘s fall 2024 schedule, to get out there already. “We’ve been shooting for two or three months now, so I want to be able to see it already,” he told TV Insider at the network’s upfront red carpet. The Season 4 finale, which saw T.K. (Ronen Rubinstein) and Carlos (Rafael L. Silva) get married, also featured a couple of tragedies: Carlos’ father was murdered, and Owen sat by his brother Robert’s (Chad Lowe) side for his death (his Huntington’s disease was progressively getting worse). It aired in May 2023; 9-1-1: Lone Star was not part of Fox’s schedule for the 2023-2024 season at all after the strikes, instead pushed to fall 2024. But...

After airing only two drama series for all of the 2023-24 season, Fox is planning to double that number in the fall.
The network unveiled its 2024-25 schedule Monday morning — after skipping the usual rite of spring the past two years — ahead of its upfront presentation to advertisers in the afternoon. The slate includes two nights of drama programming on Monday and Tuesday, a return to Fox’s scheduling pattern from seasons before last year’s dual labor strikes shut down production on scripted series and led the network to an all-reality schedule on weeknights.
The early part of the week will be anchored by two shows that took the 2023-24 season off. Fox’s longest-running current drama, 911: Lone Star, will lead into newcomer Rescue: Hi-Surf, executive produced by John Wells, on Mondays. On Tuesdays, season two of the courtroom anthology Accused will lead the night, followed by another first-year show,...

For the first time in three years, Fox is unveiling a fall schedule at its upfront, reverting to the decades-old tradition of presenting a fall lineup to advertisers in May.
And for the first time since Family Guy was brought back from cancellation by Fox 19 years ago, Seth MacFarlane’s animated hit, which just celebrated its 25th anniversary, won’t be on the network’s fall schedule. It is one of 8 new and returning scripted series held for midseason — including Animal Control, The Cleaning Lady and Alert — which is as many as there are on Fox’s fall schedule. The network likely is plotting a major midseason rollout using its Super Bowl broadcast as a promotional platform.
Also, for the first time in five years, there is no WWE SmackDown on Fridays as the network is replacing the departing wrestling franchise with sports coverage of college football and basketball as well as Ufl.

Fox has renewed its hit quiz series The Floor, this season’s #1 game show, hosted and produced by Emmy Award nominee Rob Lowe (9-1-1: Lone Star), for two additional seasons that will air during the upcoming 2024-2025 season, it was announced today by Michael Thorn, President of the Fox Television Network.
Based on the fast-growing global format, The Floor premiered in the U.S. in January. Its debut marked Fox’s most-watched Tuesday unscripted debut in more than 13 years, Fox’s largest total multiplatform audience for an unscripted debut in two years, and the network’s most-streamed gameshow debut ever.
The Floor marks the sixth consecutive season Fox has claimed television’s #1 new unscripted series, following the success of Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test, Next Level Chef, I Can See Your Voice, Lego Masters, and The Masked Singer.

Fox will hit The Floor again — twice — in the 2024-25 season.
The network has renewed its Rob Lowe-hosted game show for two more cycles, both of which are slated to air next season. Addtionally, Fox and Lowe — who’s also a producer of The Floor — have signed a first-look deal to develop unscripted projects.
The renewal comes just ahead of Fox’s upfront presentation to advertisers Monday, but it’s not a big surprise: The Floor was quietly one of the best-performing shows on the network this season. It averaged 3.47 million viewers over seven days of linear viewing, according to Nielsen ratings, and grew to 5.5 million viewers with streaming and other digital platforms included.

The quiz series “The Floor” has been renewed for Seasons 2 and 3 at Fox, with host Rob Lowe entering into an unscripted first-look deal with the network.

Under Lowe’s new deal, he will develop new unscripted series for Fox that would be produced by the network’s unscripted studio, Fox Alternative Entertainment. Lowe is also the star of Fox’s hit series “9-1-1: Lone Star,” which will air its fifth season in the fall.

Death is not permanent, not in the Multiversal saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe anyway. Of course, we have mourned the death of the beloved villain turned-hero with a glorious purpose, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki but we got him back with an even more interesting twist— further exploration of the character even without the inherent shadow of his brother, Thor, as depicted in the previous movies in the MCU.
Robert Dowmey Jr. as Iron Man in Avengers: Endgame
Like Loki’s apparent death, fan-favorite Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man demise was perhaps the saddest part for any MCU fan. There could have always been more from the character but killing him off in the Avengers: Endgame made perfect sense and his death was glorious but with Deadpool & Wolverine, a lot can change.

Before he made the disastrous Batman & Robin, Joel Schumacher helmed the summer blockbuster film A Time to Kill starring Matthew McConaughey. The Interstellar actor was still a newcomer at the time, only having the cult film Dazed and Confused popularly in his portfolio. He was cast in the role after Schumacher pulled some strings, but two other famous stars were rejected before McConaughey’s casting.

Francis Ford Coppola's miraculous 1970s run of "The Godfather," "The Conversation," "The Godfather Part II" and "Apocalypse Now" came crashing to a hubristic halt in 1982 when his backlot musical "One from the Heart," produced at his recently purchased Zoetrope Studios in the heart of Hollywood, bombed upon release. Poor reviews and audience indifference resulted in a paltry $637,000 gross against a $26 million budget, thus killing his dream of an artist-driven mini-community.
The magnitude of the film's failure meant Coppola would have to lower his sights for the time being, and make films with more straightforward commercial appeal as a means of paying off his debts. It was a shockingly precipitous fall, one that left his many admirers worried that he'd become more of a paycheck-to-paycheck director. This happened eventually, but for a time he was able to stoke his creative fire even if he was making movies that weren't as...

For as long as “teenager” has been a demographic, there have been stories about teens breaking free from the status quo. While a lot of the modern great teen rebellion media is confined to the world of TV — where shows like “Euphoria” attract constant buzz — the archetypal troubled teen story remains 1955’s “Rebel Without a Cause.” Starring James Dean in unquestionably his defining role, a rebellious teen struggling with his demons in L.A., Nicholas Ray’s film spoke to young people at the time with its story of high schoolers struggling with, and going against, the social pressures that bring them down. Over the years it became a touchstone because its themes and its honesty transcends generations.
As the teen film has evolved and morphed as a genre, there’s always been room for stories of iconoclastic youth who don’t fit in with the status quo. Oftentimes, these...

If you haven't seen "The Outsiders" in the past 20 years, you may want to revisit the coming-of-age classic: in 2005, it was rereleased with 22 minutes of additional footage, reportedly at director Francis Ford Coppola's request. The new version of the movie, titled "The Outsiders: The Complete Novel," hewed more closely to the beloved S.E. Hinton book of the same name, and it also reinstated a scene that Coppola regretted cutting after the film's 1983 release.
The sequence in question features young greaser Ponyboy (C. Thomas Howell) sharing a bed with his popular older brother Sodapop (Rob Lowe). In it, the pair hug, toss and turn, and talk about life and love. Ponyboy asks Soda why he dropped out of school, Soda shares his intent to marry his girlfriend Sandy, and the older brother encourages the younger to shake it off when his friends are mean to him. The year 1990 was a pretty decent time for a trip to the movies, especially if you’re a self confessed gore-hound, like yours truly. There’s nothing better than sitting down in a packed movie theater, or even at home with the pet cat or a similarly cherished human, to watch some carnage on the screen. Tom Savini’s Night of the Living Dead was a fun remake of the 1968 classic, while we also got the likes of It, Tremors, Child’s Play 2, Gremlins 2, Predator 2 (there’s a theme forming here…) Killer Crocodile 2. Ok, maybe not that last one. Also, if you’re a fan of Stephen King adaptations, the year also brought the ankle smashing Misery with Cathy Bates in full on psycho mode, plus the outlandishly bad, in a good way, Frankenhooker, replete with all of its soft-core pornography and grisly images. Which brings us...

Oscar-winner Robert Downey Jr. had a career renaissance when he starred in 2008 as Tony Stark in Iron Man. The film laid the foundations of the MCU and is still considered to be one of the most important superhero films to be made, despite releasing in the same year as Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight.
However, Iron Man was not the only character Downey Jr. played in 2008. A few months after he appeared in the MCU film, he starred as Kirk Lazarus in Ben Stiller’s satire action film Tropic Thunder. He was even nominated for an Oscar for his role as a method actor who altered his skin color to play a Black man in a film. The late, great, Patrick Swayze was taken from us far too soon, but left behind a legacy of phenomenal films, performances, and characters to hold near and dear. Before pivoting into a full-time acting career, Swayze was trained in ballet, ice skating, martial arts, and football. Pairing this with his dazzling good looks and acting prowess allowed him to thrive in a variety of film genres, playing fast-dancing heartthrobs and action hunks in equal measure. He had his professional breakthrough as a dancer with the Disney Theatrical Group before taking on the replacement role of Danny Zuko in a Broadway production of "Grease." This put him on the radar of Hollywood, and he made his film debut as Ace in the 1979 film "Skatetown, U.S.A."
But when the 1980s came calling, Swayze exploded in popularity and became a household name. While he certainly hit his peak when I was just a child,...

Ever wonder how David Duchovny spends his weekends?
Thom Sweeney answers that question with a new campaign featuring the veteran star for spring-summer 2024. The brand — known for contemporary tailored menswear with outposts in London, New York and a new location in Los Angeles — highlights how Duchovny spends a “weekend in the life” in London, the launch location for Thom Sweeney.
He wakes up, sips some water followed by an espresso, does a little writing and ducks out to explore the city while wearing a variety of Thom Sweeney pieces. At one point, he relaxes in the park in a copper bomber jacket, and in another moment, he’s strolling the city’s streets in a light-colored suit. Duchovny eventually finds his way inside a Thom Sweeney store to be fitted for a navy, double-breasted look but rather than hit up a red carpet, he sticks around the shop to shoot some pool.

The Breakthrough Prize Ceremony, also known as “the Oscars of Science,” is an awards show unlike any other.
Founded and funded by Silicon Valley titan Yuri Milner and his artist wife Julia Milner, Google co-founder Sergey Brin, 23andMe co-founder Anne Wojcicki, and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and his Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative co-founder Priscilla Chan, the Breakthrough Prize recognizes “scientists changing the world” with award statuettes and sizable cash prizes. And on Saturday night, at the ceremony’s 10th edition — the second in a row held on the roof of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, with the Hollywood Hills glistening in the background — presenters, performers and audience members included a collection of A-listers that could give the Oscars a run for their money.
One could turn left and spot Bill Gates and Robert Downey Jr. sitting at the same table, or right and find tablemates Bradley Cooper and Rupert Murdoch schmoozing.

Angelina Jolie‘s daughter, Vivienne, 15, has assumed the role of a meticulous assistant on the Broadway production of The Outsiders. The mother-daughter team attended the show’s premiere at New York City’s Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on April 11.
“She’ll correct me,” Jolie, 48, who is a producer of the show, said. “She’ll say, ‘Didn’t you read the memo? We have to do this. We have to go through this. She’s been a really tough assistant. She takes it very, very seriously.”
Broadway’s The Outsiders is a stage adaptation of S. E. Hinton’s beloved coming-of-age novel from 1967. Previously, the story received a film adaptation over four decades ago, directed by Francis Ford Coppola and written by Kathleen Rowell. The 1983 film featured notable actors such as C. Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman are no strangers to committing to the bit. Poehler shared that she and Offerman used to make out while filming Parks and Recreation in an attempt to get the moment into the show’s blooper reel.
“Nick and I used to do a thing every year for the blooper reel where we would end a scene by making out, and the crew would hate it,” Poehler told The Independent UK in an oral history celebrating the 15th anniversary of NBC’s beloved sitcom. “Everybody hated it, and it really made us laugh.”
Poehler played Leslie Knope, the deputy director of the (fictional) Pawnee, Indiana, Parks and Recreation Department. Her forever upbeat optimism was balanced by Nick Offerman’s Ron Swanson, a cynical libertarian working as the director of Parks and Rec.

Robert Downey Jr. is not closing the door on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which he kicked off in 2008 with “Iron Man” and headlined for 11 years through 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame.” Iron Man met his demise in that tentpole, but that has never stopped rumors from circulating that Marvel is trying to bring Downey back into the fold, especially now that the MCU has hit a box office rough patch with 2023 flops such as “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and “The Marvels.” Certainly, Downey’s return as Iron Man could restore Marvel to its blockbuster glory days.
Speaking to Esquire magazine after his Oscar win for “Oppenheimer” last month, Downey was asked if he would ever return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe now that he is officially an Academy Award winner. The actor didn’t hesitate to answer yes.
“Happily. It’s too integral a part of my DNA,” Downey said. “That role chose me.
