Update:
Winners are now indicated. I correctly guessed 11 out of the 24 categories, which is slightly better than last year, when I guessed 10 out of 24.
Previous 02.26.17:
I’ve now seen as many of the nominated films as I will be able to before tonight’s ceremony, and here finally are my educated guesses about who will take home each award — projected winners are Xed at the lefthand side. Keep in mind: those Xes don’t represent whom I think should win Oscars but whom I think will win, based on what little I can grasp about how the Academy thinks. I’ve also noted which nominees I think should win. Kindly note that this is not necessarily my take on who did the best performance/writing/FX/whatever of the year, but whom I think is best among the nominees.
I have not noted a “should win” for the feature documentary category,...

The 89th Annual Academy Awards kicked off Sunday at Los Angeles' Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center, and as expected, the A-Listers came dressed to impress.
La La Land star Emma Stone wowed in a classy, custom-created Givenchy gown, while Hidden Figures star Taraji P. Henson opted for a blue velvet Alberta Ferretti dress, which featured a thigh-high slit. The men looked just as handsome, with Stone's co-star, Ryan Gosling, sporting a Gucci suit, and Fifty Shades Darker star Jamie Dornan in a cream-colored tuxedo jacket.
And while the red carpet looks were undoubtedly fabulous, all eyes were on the night's big winners. See the full list of everyone who took home a shiny statuette and check back throughout the night for updates!

Oscar frontrunner “La La Land” continued its awards momentum, taking best contemporary hairstyling Sunday night at the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards.
However, in terms of the Oscar race, makeup and hairstyling nominees “Suicide Squad” and “Star Trek Beyond” were both big winners, grabbing period/character make-up and special make-up effects, respectively.
Other movie winners were “Nocturnal Animals” for contemporary make-up and “Hail, Caesar!” for period hair styling.
TV winners included “Westworld,” ” Game of Thrones,” The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.” “American Horror Story: Roanoke,” “The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let’s Do the Time Warp Again,” and “Dancing With the Stars.”
Make-up artist Leonard Engelman (“Ghostbusters”) and hair stylist Barbara Lorenz (“La La Land”) were feted for their lifetime achievements, while “American Horror Story” creator Ryan Murphy received the Distinguished Artisan Award.

The nominations for the 89th Academy Awards are in and La La Land leads the pack with 14 nominations! I knew La La Land was going to explode at this event, and it's probably going to end up taking home many of the awards is was nominated for. The 14 nominations ties the record with 1997's Titanic and 1950's All About Eve.
Arrival ended up with eight nominations as did Moonlight, while Hacksaw Ridge, Lion, and Manchester by the Sea all got six. Deadpool ended up with zero nominations. I was hoping to see it somewhere on the list, but it looks like all that hype didn't work.
Every film and actor who was nominated for their work deserves to be on this list, so congratulations to them all! There are so many great films and actors to root for, but there can be only one winner in each category.

We're less than three weeks away from Halloween, so now's the time to start thinking about and planning out the details of your costume if you're going to dress up this year. And if you're looking to mimic one of the year's most easily-identifiable characters, you could do much worse than going as Sofia Boutella's kickass character Jaylah from Star Trek Beyond (read about how she got her name here).
There are tons of makeup tutorials on YouTube, but how often do we see ones from Hollywood pros who've actually worked on huge budget blockbusters? Paramount has released a video of Star Trek Beyond Makeup Designer Joel Harlow and Lead Makeup Artist Richie Alonzo showing us how to look like a simplified version of Jaylah. Check it out and make sure to come back and drop us a finished photo of yourself in the comments if you plan on using this tutorial this year!

Just in time for Halloween, Paramount Home Entertainment has released a video on the makeup effects employed by Star Trek Beyond‘s Makeup Designer Joel Harlow and Lead Makeup Artist Richie Alonzo created for Jaylah. The film is now available via Digital HD and hits disc on November 1.
The Justin Lin-directed feature earned an 84% fresh rating at Rotten Tomatoes and although it under performed at the box office compared with its preddcessor, Star Trek Into Darkness, thew film was certainly better received by the fans.
Still, the $185 million production earned only $337,896,789 worldwide, probably making it a loss for beleaguered Paramount, which did not have a good summer season. Thanks to licensing and ancillary sales, the film will probably eke out a profit.
A fourth installment, with Chris Hemsworth returning as George Kirk, has already been announced as being in the works although the official green light has yet to be given.
