Nathan and Daniel wake at the scene of a car crash, confused and seemingly unscathed. The two men begin to slowly understand that they did not make it. They are dead. Nathan’s previous acts will now determine his fate, however reprehensible they might have been. He will have to leave this earthly world and enter the depths of Hell that await him for all eternity and be confronted with other tormented souls whose pain he will be forced to experience…
Essentially an anthology, Pandemonium feels heavily inspired by the likes of Dante’s Inferno and it’s seven circles of hell, with Nathan only beginning his descent into hell – viewing the scions and stories of those who have come before him in two very different stories, with Nathan’s own story – a car crash, causing the...

Nearly a year has gone by since we learned that Elizabeth Hurley (Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery) had signed on to star in Piper, a new horror film from director Anthony Waller. Now The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that the movie is set to have its world premiere at FrightFest this Sunday, August 27th – and ahead of the premiere, a trailer for Piper has arrived online! You can check it out in the embed above.
Back in 1995, director Waller made an impressive breakthrough with the thriller Mute Witness… then quickly squandered the good will he had earned with that movie by following it up with An American Werewolf in Paris. Waller has made a couple movies since the Paris debacle – the 2000 Bill Pullman thriller The Guilty, the 2009 sci-fi horror film 9 Miles Down – and here’s hoping that Piper will earn him some positive attention again.

"The target is surround, we await further instructions." Black Mandala has revealed a first look trailer for an indie sci-fi creation called The Last Boy on Earth, an anthology film with around eight segments in total to enjoy. There's no final premiere date set yet, but it will be released sometime later in 2023. Here's the only synopsis available so far: In a distant future, an enigmatic boy becomes the central figure in the search for a new hope. Who is this kid? Why is everyone looking for it? Sometimes it is better not to know certain answers... I'm also wondering if this kid is in every segment? The cast includes Camilo Levigne, Raymond Lee, Hugo "Kato" Quiril, Joshua Grothe, Arben Bajraktaraj, John Bubniak, and Sam Hoare. This has plenty of imagery that's lifted directly from Blade Runner (and other sci-fi movies) but it still looks damn good, with impressive VFX and different stories to watch.

Waller has made a couple movies since the Paris debacle – the 2000 Bill Pullman thriller The Guilty, the 2009 sci-fi horror film 9 Miles Down – and now he’s back with another excursion into the horror genre. The French filmmaker is in Albania finishing his new thriller, a Cheyenne Federation production sold by Other Angle Pictures and starring Waël Sersoub and Tugba Sunguroglu. The final week of filming, involving a few days in Albania, is now underway on Kanun, Jérémie Guez’s 3rd feature-length work following on from Bluebird (unveiled at the 2018 SXSW before making its way to events including Sitges) and Sons of Philadelphia (starring Matthias Schoenaerts in the lead role and currently awaiting its cinema release in France). French actor Waël Sersoub (highly acclaimed in Milf) stands tall in the film’s cast, as does Turkey’s Tugba Sunguroglu (who scooped the 2016 Acting Revelation Lumières award alongside her Mustang colleagues) and Kosovar actor Arben Bajraktaraj.Written by the director,...

Arben Bajraktaraj as Besnik in A Shelter Among The Clouds. 'We filmed almost in chronological order - which is a luxury for an actor' Photo: Pluto Film Robert Budina's visually arresting and thoughtful A Shelter Among The Clouds, has the quality of a parable about the need for tolerance and understanding as it tells the story of Besnik (Arben Bajraktaraj), a goatherd who lives in a remote village in the Albanian mountains. Suffering from seizures and carrying the weight of his past, he leads an almost monastic existence with his father. His way of life is challenged when he discovers the mosque in his village used to be a Catholic church, a revelation that brings interest from a city art historian Estela Pysgyli and local conflict at the same time as his brother and sister arrive to help him with his ailing father - and begin to jockey for position as his heir.

The Prishtina International Film Festival has wrapped its 11th edition, which ran from 16-21 July and screened over 70 films, with an awards ceremony held at the National Theatre. The winner of the Balkan film competition at the 11th Prishtina International Film Festival, a strand also known as the “Honey and Blood” programme, was Albanian director Robert Budina’s feature A Shelter Among the Clouds, as decreed by jury members Karin Dix, Daniel Mulloy and Eponine Momenceau. Furthermore, the film’s leading actors, who both originate from Kosovo, Arben Bajraktaraj and Irena Cahani, snagged the Best Actor and Best Actress Awards, respectively. The jury bestowed the Best Director Award upon Turkey’s Mahmut Fazıl Coşkun for his film The Announcement, which also picked up the Fipresci Jury Award. The international jury for PriFest’s European competition, comprising Claudia Landsberger, Armond Morina and Vladimir Anastasov, handed first-time Slovenian director-screenwriter Darko Štante’s Consequences.
"Your ascent is stable." Time for a short film that's just a little bit trippy. The YouTube sci-fi channel Dust has launched a short film online titled On/Off, a French sci-fi film from writer/director Thierry Lorenzi. This has been playing at film festivals since 2013 and has just now debuted online for all to watch, which is a bit of a lengthy delay but it's a good short nonetheless. Carole Brana stars as Meredith, an astronaut who is plagued by mysterious voice in her head. She will face its paradoxical condition in order to stay connected to his humanity. Also starring Arben Bajraktaraj. This is clever and fascinating, and has a realistic feel to it. Though the reveal is a bit derivative, something we've seen plenty of times before. Give it a watch anyway. Thanks to Dust for premiering this. Short description: "Obsessed by a mysterious voice message, astronaut...

There’s a general misconception among casual horror fans that any flick produced by a fellow fan, or amateur, isn’t worth the time it takes to type in w-w-w-.-y-o-u-t-u-b-e-.-c-o-m.
Bona fide horror hounds have been tuned in to these inspired projects for years, understanding and respecting the effort devoted to a genuine passion piece. The detractors tend (this isn’t a rule carved in stone, mind you) to be the guys and gals who catch a macabre flick once every week or so, wiling to confess their affinity for the genre, but perhaps not devoted enough to qualify as a certified freak for terror, who haven’t taken the time to study these ambitious pictures.
The truth is, anyone who can openly acknowledge their love for horror can potentially find some brilliant fan productions, regardless of how dedicated one may or may not be. Sometimes fans just...

Based on title alone, would you go see a movie called The Woman Who Brushed Off Her Tears? Probably not. It sounds like the kind of bland puffery that consists mainly of scenes where groups of women are crying and telling each other it’s going to be alright. The purple poetry of the name is unfortunate, because it almost guarantees that some will skip over a strong, unique revenge story with a killer lead actress. In this case, judging a movie by its poster is the wrong move. From writer/director Teona Strugar Mitevska, it’s the kind of movie that toys around with convention and flirts with pretense while, for the most part, staying focused on characters and conflict. That conflict begins with a devastating opening scene which pairs timing, taboo and gripping performance to great effect. It’s a gut punch, but instead of picking you up off the curb, the...

Following up the initial announcement of titles, the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival revealed it will open with the period drama Les Adieux à la reine (Farewell My Queen) today. From director Benoît Jacquot, the drama stars Inglourious Basterds lead Diane Kruger, as well as Léa Seydoux who broke-out in Midnight in Paris and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol this year. Based on, Chantal Thomas’ novel we have the first stills of the film (from Lumiere via The Playlist) that follows the “first few days of the French Revolution from the perspective of the servants at Versailles.”
Kruger, who plays Marie Antoinette here, has only appeared in one big film following her post-Basterds role with Unknown, but I look forward to her future work, especially with this film. I thought Seydoux was great as an action villain in Ghotocol and excited to see her career rise. Check out the stills below,...

The long, slow, soul-crushing stagger towards the Oscars starts this week with many of the nominated prestige pictures that came out three months ago getting back into the spotlight after the flurry of Sundance attention has thawed. Meanwhile, the remake machine cranks out another Asian-inspired chiller, Bollywood goes meta, and Liam Neeson kicks some serious ass.

Given the Hollywood prestige crowd's endless fascination with all things Holocaust, it is unfathomable how the remarkable story of Hannah Senesh remains largely untold.
