Channel 4 is developing a version of The Food Network’s sabotage cooking show Cutthroat Kitchen.
According to The Sun, the UK broadcaster is working with Warner Bros.-owned First Dates indie Twenty Twenty on a version of the show that ran for 15 seasons in the U.S. A Channel 4 insider said the show is still in the development stage and has not been officially greenlit.
Hosted by Alton Brown, Cutthroat Kitchen ran in the U.S. for 15 seasons and nearly 200 episodes across four years on the Food Network. It features four chefs competing in a three-round elimination cooking competition with a twist – they are given $25,000 at the start and face auctions in which they can purchase opportunities to ‘sabotage’ one another. The last person standing keeps whatever money they have not spent in the auctions.

Since 2010, the reality cooking competition Worst Cooks in America has enchanted — and sometimes repelled — Food Network viewers. Celebrity chef Anne Burrell leads a team against a rotating cast of famous chefs and fellow Food Network personalities. But as the title implies, these hapless contestants aren’t exactly ready for Top Chef.
The show is packed with cringe-worthy moments, as some truly disastrous cooks attempt to learn their way around the kitchen. Both Burrell and her competing judges over the years have had some major meltdowns at their teams. But outside of those moments of friction being played up for television, which judge is a pleasure to work under on this over-the-top reality show?

‘Iron Chef’ Stars Weigh In on TikTok: ‘Cabbage Salad Became the Thing. How the F Does That Happen?!’
There’s no doubt about it: social media has revolutionized the food business. Scrolling through endless food porn on Instagram tipped off a craze that has now fully blown up with TikTok, which has turned everyone into a 15-second chef.
That also might be the problem. Today, everyone is an expert in everything, without the credentials.
On one hand, the intense love around food on social media has heightened interest in the culinary world, but at the same time, classically-trained chefs worry that the influx of short-form content is “trivializing” the art of cooking. Just ask Alton Brown and Kristen Kish, co-hosts of the new “Iron Chef” on Netflix — but that’s not to say they don’t appreciate what social media has done for their business.
“We became rock stars,” Kish says. “Chefs became rock stars.”

Alton Brown has been a Food Network staple for a very long time. He's hosted 14 seasons of "Good Eats," which is the series that got me hooked on cooking shows. (That's pretty impressive since I cannot cook at all.) He hosts "Cutthroat Kitchen," one of the funniest cooking competitions out there, where people sabotage each other to finish an assigned dish. He hosted "Iron Chef America" and gave the best commentary on the chefs and the food. Now, however, Brown is leaving Food Network for Netflix after 21 years, something that comes as a big surprise to his fans. Of course, it...

Just like “Iron Chef,” Alton Brown is synonymous with Food Network. But now, both the beloved show and the celebrity chef have moved to Netflix for a new version of the competition series that will be co-hosted by Brown.
With Netflix’s “Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend,” which premiered this week, Brown has officially departed from his long tenure at Food Network, where he was a staple for 21 years.
Brown first joined Food Network in the late ’90s, and was the host and creator of “Good Eats,” as well as the host of “Iron Chef America,” “Cutthroat Kitchen” and a slew of other series at Food Network and the Cooking Channel.
Though his exit was never formally announced, Brown’s last deal with Food Network took him through 2020, and since, he has quietly left their airwaves. In 2021, new episodes of his shows have aired — “Good Eats: The Return,...

The granddaddy of timed cooking battles is back — and not a moment too soon. Nearly four years after Iron Chef America closed the kitchen on the U.S. version of the worldwide hit, this latest iteration offers up the hourlong war between one of five Iron Chefs and a challenger, using, as always, a secret ingredient (Episode 1: lamb!). Alton Brown returns as host, alongside Kristen Kish, in an expanded Kitchen Stadium bursting with culinary possibilities. “The level of [items] being brought in living, dead, and in between…I’ve never seen it before,” says Brown. Adam Rose/Netflix In the new series, titled Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend, the challenger who scores best with judges — in presentation, taste and use of the ingredient — in the first seven episodes returns in the finale vs. all five Iron Chefs; the winner is crowned “Iron Legend” by the Chairman (Mark Dacascos...

Per the official description for the show, which is titled “Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend,” “The legendary Iron Chef series is reborn with a supersized approach to the ground-breaking culinary competition that started it all. It’s been called the toughest culinary challenge a chef will ever experience. This is where world-class cuisine meets high-octane sports. Five new trailblazing Iron Chefs will welcome brave Challenger Chefs to the reimagined Kitchen Stadium, where they’ll face off and be pushed to the limits of endurance and creativity, as they cook up extraordinary culinary creations. The competition’s most successful Challenger will return to battle in a grand finale for the chance to be named the first ever ‘Iron Legend.'”

There are some essential kitchen appliances that are really worth splurging on, like a good stand mixer, a multipurpose toaster oven, or an espresso maker if you can’t live without that cup of joe. Kitchen gadgets can get pricey fast (and fill up valuable counter space), but incorporating a couple cooking accessories into your kitchen can streamline your meal-prepping process without breaking the bank.

The decision to put select content from Discovery, Inc.-owned brands like from TLC, Food Network and HGTV exclusively on new streaming service Discovery+, like portions of the “90 Day Fiance” franchise and new episodes of Alton Brown’s “Good Eats,” hasn’t gone over so well with all fans, as many viewers want to see their favorite cable shows keep airing on cable.
But Discovery, Inc. CEO David Zaslav said Monday that just because a series is only available on Discovery+, which costs $4.99 per month with ads or $6.99 for no commercials, right now does not mean it will only be available on Discovery+ permanently, as this “moving around” is an experiment for the company.
“In terms of the content that we’re moving around, we’re really experimenting,” Zaslav said during an investor call pegged to the unveiling of Discovery’s fourth-quarter and full-year 2020 earnings Monday. “The interesting thing is,...

New episodes of Alton Brown’s “Good Eats” are coming, but not to the channel that you might expect.
Three new installments of Brown’s “Good Eats: The Return” will launch Thursday, Feb. 18 on Discovery’s new streaming service, discovery+, rather than debuting on the show’s longtime home, Food Network.
Per Discovery+, “In the series that inspired a generation of food fans, Alton explores the origins of ingredients, decodes culinary customs and presents food and equipment trends. Punctuated by unusual interludes, simple preparations and unconventional discussions, each episode features food in its finest and funniest form.”
The first three Discovery+ episodes of “Good Eats” will cover bone marrow, cold brew coffee and fried breads: “In the premiere episodes, Alton tackles bone marrow and delivers everything you need to know to enjoy ‘God’s butter’ at home; opens all-new dimensions of coffee enjoyment with an exploration of cold brew – and no,...

Food Network personality Alton Brown apologized Wednesday for the “flippant reference” he made to the Holocaust in a tweet the night before saying, “It was a very poor use of judgement [sic] and in poor taste.”
On Tuesday, the “Good Eats” host tweeted, “Do you think the the [sic] camp uniforms will be striped, like the ones at Auschwitz or will plaid be in vogue?,” drawing a comparison to the current U.S. political climate and the World War II genocide of the European Jewish community, in which some six million Jews were murdered at concentration camps like Auschwitz.
When one user responded, “Depends on what you’re worth when you go in,” Brown replied, “I have no gold fillings.”

Food Network Good Eats and Iron Chef America host Alton Brown apologized today for a series of joking Twitter references to concentration camps and the Holocaust.
The 58-year-old Brown at first defended his remarks, then admitted they were in “poor taste.”
In his tweetstorm that sparked an uproar, Brown asked, “So, when they move us to the camps, do you think they’ll let us choose the state? I’m going to ask for Kansas because the sky is so gorgeous there… over the wheat,” he wrote.
He later added, “Do you think the camp uniforms will be striped, like the ones at Auschwitz, or will plaid be in vogue?” He then said that he had “no gold fillings” when a Twitter responder said the uniform would depend on his personal wealth.
Responding later to the Twitter outrage caused by his remarks, Brown claimed he is “deeply frightened” for the country,...

On Monday afternoon, celebrity chef and Food Network personality Alton Brown embodied what is probably the feelings of a lot of people on the day before the election with a hilarious pre-election Twitter rant that pretty much got to the heart of this super stressful time.
It kicked off unassumingly enough at 4:49 p.m. Pt, when the “Good Eats” host tweeted “No matter what happens tomorrow, we’ll still have tiny chocolate doughnuts.” This true statement (good lord this election is stressful you guys) lived by itself for exactly an hour, until at 5:49 p.m. Brown followed it with “I’m seriously thinking about @LittleDebbie #NuttyBars and cigarettes. Honestly, like at the same time.”
Brown only waited 15 minutes before his next tweet, which pretty much set the tone for things to come. “So many Food Network people are like “oh, I’m going to braise short ribs in elderberry jam…...

With coronavirus stay-at-home measures extending into their fourth month, people have been cooking more than ever. Here, six celebrity chefs recommend staples that everyone needs in their pantry.

Dried beans. You can feed a family of four for six months on different kinds of beans. Beans are cheap. They’re plentiful. They’re incredibly nutritious. They can be turned into anything, from dips to soups to salads. You can do anything if you’ve got enough beans.
Padma Lakshmi
You should always have onions, garlic, ginger, potatoes, rice, quinoa, cornmeal and fennel, because those things add flavor to your dishes. Then there’s your spice kit — oregano, thyme, crushed red chili, cumin, coriander. You should have things that are not as common like sumac and za’atar, which are from the Middle East and add great flavor to dishes that aren’t necessarily Middle Eastern.

Alton Brown was nearly three months into quarantine when he decided to get adventurous. The chef and host of Food Network staples like “Good Eats” and “Iron Chef America” was preparing curry with his wife when they realized they didn’t have any rice on hand. Instead, they turned to an unlikely substitute — oatmeal, mixed with heaps of ghee and turmeric — to pull together their savory dish.
“That’s probably not something I would have done pre-quarantine,” admits Brown. “At this point, I’m looking at everything in the kitchen a little differently.”
A license to get creative is emblematic of Brown’s spontaneous nature on “Quarantine Quitchen,” a new YouTube series he created with his wife while sheltering at home. Since ingredients are scarce and people are exercising more caution about going to the grocery store, the coronavirus pandemic has given the general public a renewed appreciation for cooking.

Discovery boss David Zaslav said Monday that he’s in no rush to bring all his talent back into the studio, and it has all to do with the success story of none other than Steve Irwin and his show “The Crocodile Hunter.”
Speaking on the MoffettNathanson Media and Communications Summit Monday, Zaslav said he learned from watching “The Crocodile Hunter” that a show didn’t need to be slickly produced in order to get huge ratings.
“I had this experience when I was at NBC. We had bought National Geographic, and it had incredibly beautifully shot, 12 cameras, the voice of God, you got to see some animal that no one would ever get to see on Earth,” Zaslav said. “And then all of a sudden, (Steve) Irwin comes on Animal Planet and starts opening up the mouths of crocodiles, does very unpredictable [things], jumps into the swamp — and it’s getting five-times the rating.

Halloween is still a couple weeks away, but Food Network is already decking its halls with holiday content. This year, the cable channel is serving up more seasonal programming than ever, growing its themed episodes by 40% compared to 2018’s slate, and it kicked things off at the end of last month with some spooktacular specials.
The reason behind the big push into making the season brighter with more Halloween, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas and New Year’s Eve offerings is how much the shows lit up last year’s Nielsen data for Food Network, which scored its highest-rated fourth quarter since 2015 (+9% vs. prior year), largely driven by the holiday-programming lineup.
“Looking at last year’s ratings and what we had done in 2017, we definitely, in both years — and never before as aggressively as this year — have taken a big step up in the volume of content,” Food Network president Courtney White told TheWrap.

“Good Eats” makes its long-awaited return to Food Network on Sunday with the premiere of “Good Eats: The Return,” the on-the-nose title of Season 15 of Alton Brown’s beloved science-meets-cooking show.
Both the cable channel and Brown have been promoting the stuffing out of the show’s new episodes, with Food Network launching the premiere early online and the celebrity cook hosting a Reddit Ama this week, plus fielding many, many fan questions on Twitter.
And with this level of enthusiasm for the return of “Good Eats,” we had to ask Brown why he stopped making the show, which ran from 1999 to 2012, in the first place — and why he finally decided to bring it back.
“It’s a complicated question,” Brown told TheWrap. “I stopped not because the network wanted me to stop or anybody else wanted me to stop; I kind of wanted to take a break for a few years.

Say the name Guy Fieri, and the mind fills with images of frosted tips, bowling shirts covered in flames, and a made-up land called Flavortown USA, where manhole covers are made of pizza and the law states that one must always “sauce with authority.”
It’s got it’s own fan site, but you won’t find it on any map — Fieri himself is still amazed at the epic proportions to which one simple catch phrase has grown. But making people happy, he says, is what makes him happy — and coincidentally, spreading happiness is something that being a chef and a beloved internet meme have in common.
“In today’s world, so many people are doing things that make people unhappy, and there’s so many sad situations that are going on. To know that there’s a picture of me as a fat little cherub baby with sunglasses on,...
