Miss Geraldine Flower remains something of a mystery from beginning to end of this extraordinary experimental biopic. Inspired by a case full of letters, photographs and — those were the days — telexes left behind by the late Miss Flower after her untimely death, the film is essentially a song cycle, performed by Icelandic singer Emilíana Torrini and filmed by Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard, the directing duo behind the 2014 Nick Cave documentary 20,000 Days on Earth. Like that film, The Extraordinary Miss Flower — which had its world premiere at the BFI London Film Festival this weekend — is an exercise in channeling its subject rather than simply showing and telling. And like that film, it is destined to find an eager cult audience for its psychedelic charms.

The Extraordinary Miss Flower Lff Premiere Interviews
Plot:
When Geraldine Flower passed away, her family uncovered a secret cache of letters containing declarations of love from suitors around the globe, hinting at the possibility of a life of espionage. Taking inspiration, Icelandic singer-songwriter Emilíana Torrini recorded an album that forms the spine of this filmic fever dream. The songs and images bring these amorous words and the beguiling Miss Flower thrillingly back to life.

And now for something completely different… The Extraordinary Miss Flower, a new biographical filmic experience from British artists Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard, known for their Nick Cave film 20,000 Days on Earth, is set for its world premiere at the BFI London Film Festival (Lff) on Saturday. The event’s 68th edition, which opened with Steve McQueen’s Saoirse Ronan-starring Blitz, wraps on Sunday.
Miss Flower is very different from many of the other offerings of the Lff. “When Geraldine Flower passed away, her family uncovered a secret cache of letters containing declarations of love from suitors around the globe, hinting at the possibility of a life of espionage,” reads its synopsis. “Taking inspiration, Icelandic singer-songwriter Emilíana Torrini recorded an album that forms the spine of this filmic fever dream. National Geographic's A Small Light continues tonight with another two episodes.
TV Fanatic scored an exclusive first look at what's ahead, and it looks like things are going from bad to worse for Otto Frank (Liev Schreiber).
In the clip, we see Miep (Bel Powley) speak to Otto about recent events and how things might change very soon.
Otto is worried about the Nsb officer snooping around, but Miep tries to calm him down.
With his back pushed against the wall, Otto ponders what will happen next.
It's an excellent look at the series and how Miep tries to help Otto by making him realize that he's a wonderful father and has made the right decisions.
Based on an inspiring true story, Miep Gies (Bel Powley) was young, carefree and opinionated — at a time when opinions got you killed ― when Otto Frank (Liev Schreiber) asked her to help hide his...

National Geographic has released the trailer from the upcoming eight-part limited series ‘A Small Light’. The powerful series, produced by ABC Signature and Keshet Studios, will stream on Disney+ in the U.K. on 2 May.
Based on an inspiring true story, Miep Gies (Bel Powley) was young, carefree and opinionated — at a time when opinions got you killed ― when Otto Frank (Liev Schreiber) asked her to help hide his family from the Nazis during WWII. Without hesitation, Miep agreed. For the next two years, she and her daring and devoted husband, Jan (Joe Cole), with several other everyday heroes, watched over the Frank, van Pels and Pfeffer families hiding in the secret annexe.
Told with a modern sensibility, the series shakes the cobwebs of history and makes Miep’s story feel relevant, forcing audiences to ask themselves what they would have done in Miep’s shoes; and in modern times,...

"I don't normally wear this kind of thing." A24 has revealed a trailer for the indie horror film In Fabric, which first premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last year to some solid acclaim. This odd, unique British thriller is about a "killer dress", also known as a cursed dress that kills the person who wears it as it passes from person to person in a London department store. "From acclaimed horror director Peter Strickland (the singular auteur behind the sumptuous sadomasochistic romance The Duke of Burgundy and auditory gaillo-homage Berberian Sound Studio) comes a truly nightmarish film, at turns frightening, seductive, and darkly humorous. Channeling voyeuristic fantasies of high fashion and bloodshed, In Fabric is Strickland’s most twisted and brilliantly original vision yet." This stars Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Hayley Squires, Leo Bill, Caroline Catz, Julian Barratt, and Gwendoline Christie. Looks so twisted and crazy and unique. Here's the first...

ITV has released a first-look trailer for the new series of Doc Martin.
The grumpy medic - played by Martin Clunes - will return in a new eight-part series, the show's sixth since it began in 2004.
Doc Martin's latest run will see the Gp preparing to wed long-time love interest Louisa (Caroline Catz).
"I'm thrilled to be going back to the beautiful North Cornish coast," said Clunes. "Our challenge this season will be to force Louisa and the doctor to live together with Baby James which as far as I can see has disaster written all over it."
Doc Martin posted viewing figures of almost 9 million for its fifth series in 2010.
The series will return to ITV later this year.

For all the British television that makes some effort to cross the pond, some shows simply can't be reworked for American audiences. Luckily, most of them make it to us anyway, and the latest, brilliant effort to come by way of PBS (and of course, DVD) is Doc Martin.
Starring the by now legendary Martin Clunes, who has been a part of so many amazing British series that it boggles the mind, Doc Martin is the story of a star surgeon who suddenly develops a blood phobia. With little choice in his career path, he takes the job of Gp for the small village of Portwenn, where he spent much time as a young lad with his aunt (Stephanie Cole).
Hoping that the rural doctor life will consist largely of colds and the odd bruise, Martin hopes that with blood at a minimum he can overcome his problem and return to surgery.

In these four complete series, Doc Martin catches the eye of the most beautiful woman in Portwenn (Caroline Catz, TV’s The Vice) tests the patience of his long-suffering aunt (Stephanie Cole, Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day), and repeatedly hurts feelings as he heals bodies.
A huge hit in the U.K. with 9 million viewers and a fifth series commissioned, Doc Martin currently airs on PBS stations across the U.

Our favorite curmudgeonly physician is back for another series. Dr. Martin Ellingham (Martin Clunes) if possible is in a worse mood than ever, and it is up to his village of Portwenn to keep him from going back to London to resume his career as a surgeon. Dr. Martin Ellingham is a surgeon who can.t stand the sight of blood. In addition to his phobia, he is rude, overbearing, selfish and, well, the only doctor in the village of Portwenn. Because of that fact his patients put up with a lot of his incredibly grumpy moments and forthright declarations. After all, they reason, the man has a load to bear. Most recently, his wedding to Louisa (Caroline Catz)...
