Nat Geo has ordered a trio of new projects.
The network has greenlit Pathological, a true-crime doc about conman Stéphane Bourgoin and Sally, a feature doc about space pioneer Sally Ride, while Anthony Mackie is taking Shark Beach over from Chris Hemsworth.
Pathological: Chasing A True-Crime Con Man follows the rise and fall of bestselling French author and serial killer expert Bourgoin, whose career was built on a foundation of lies. The series takes viewers through the dramatic twists and turns of Bourgoin’s life in front of and behind the camera and tracks his pursuit by a group of true-crime enthusiasts, whose passion for the genre turned them into amateur sleuths and seekers of truth.
Based on the New Yorker’s 2022 piece on Bourgoin from journalist Lauren Collins, the three-part series comes from filmmaker Ben Selkow. It is produced by The New Yorker Studios and The Circus producer Left/Right.

Chris Hemsworth will continue testing his phyical and mental boundaries for Nat Geo.
The Disney-owned company has renewed Limitless With Chris Hemsworth for a second season, which like the first will stream on Disney+. The formal pickup comes more than a year after the first season debuted in November 2022.
Nat Geo and Disney+ have also renewed A Real Bug’s Life, the (partially staged) nature series that uses the 1998 Pixar movie A Bug’s Life as its inspiration. That pickup was much quicker, coming two weeks after the series premiered. Nat Geo announced both pickups during its time at the Television Critics Association press tour on Thursday.
Season one of Limitless followed Hemsworth as he explored — using himself as a test subject — scientific developments in helping people live longer, healthier lives. Season two will focus on “a series of physical and mental obstaclesthat people across the world face daily: mental agility, pain,...

For 24 years, The New Yorker has leaned on the talents of actors, writers, and others from the world of Hollywood to be a part of its annual New Yorker Festival, which will be held this year Oct. 6-8.
The ongoing Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes have thrown a wrench in many plans that have traditionally relied on Hollywood talent, but the festival will go on, New Yorker editor David Remnick tells The Hollywood Reporter. And there will still be plenty of star power.
The New Yorker, of course, is not owned by a struck company, but SAG has advised its members not to promote projects from studios that have not signed interim agreements, and the Condé Nast-owned publication has had to adapt accordingly: “We faced a challenge or two,” Remnick says.

Drake got very philosophical in an Instagram video posted Wednesday after being was asked what his biggest fear is.
“I’ve never really had a good answer for it, but my answer was that all this is for nothing. Kind of the idea that like, one day life ends and it just all goes black,” the rapper explained in the video. “And I guess that question like, sent me, you know, obviously deep into a spiral of thought. And it makes me think about my life and how surreal it feels at times.”
He proceeded to reflect on a life-changing audition he had for a TV show when he was “13 or 14.”

Teen dramas aren't just for teens anymore. In 2022, "Euphoria" became HBO's second most-watched series ever, and season 3 of Mindy Kaling's comedy-drama "Never Have I Ever" continued to attract a massive audience of viewers of all ages. The genre simply continues to expand, to the delight of its many fans.
Perhaps teen dramas persist because becoming an adult is a universally complex stage of life. In her book "Teen TV," Dr. Stefania Marghitu writes, "Certain narrative elements present themselves in nearly every teen series: the protagonist feels alienated from the adolescent world she is on the threshold of entering. This conflict is intertwined with a passionate story of first love and new discoveries during the transition from child to adult." Even for viewers who are no longer teens, the thrills, pains, and misunderstandings of youth aren't too difficult to remember.

Nearly 10 months after HBO Max ordered a new series of “Degrassi”, the popular Canadian teen franchise, and also picked up the streaming rights for all 14 seasons of “Degrassi: The Next Generation”, Et has confirmed that reboot is no longer moving forward.
Originally eyed for a 2023 debut, the new “Degrassi” series was going to consist of 10 hour-long episodes and be run by showrunners Lara Azzopardi and Julia Cohen, with filming set to begin over the summer in Toronto.
The entire library of “Next Generation” episodes, meanwhile, is still available to stream on HBO Max, after first joining the platform this spring.
“Degrassi” is about the high school experience and the roller-coaster journey of self-discovery. Set in Toronto, the updated series explores a group of teenagers and school faculty living in the shadow of events that both bind them together and tear them apart. Welcome to the latest installment in our regular Movies You May Have Missed series here on Nerdly, in which I highlight some of, what I think, are the best movies that have flown under the radar of many or have been “forgotten” in the intervening years since its release. This time round it’s At Your Service, aka Servitude, a 2011 Canadian comedy about the restaurant industry.
Stars: Joe Dinicol, Rachel Skarsten, John Bregar, Enrico Colantoni, David Foley, Margot Kidder, Lauren Collins, Aaron Ashmore, Kristen Hager, Linda Kash | Written by Michael Sparaga | Directed by Warren P Sonoda
If there’s two things I’m a fan of it’s Ryan Reynolds’ movies and Canada. Put those two together and you get At Your Service, the story of a group of servers and staff at a franchise chain restaurant (much like Ryan Reynolds’ Waiting) who have one last wild night at their...

Nearly six years after Degrassi: The Next Generation wrapped in 2015, co-creator Linda Schuyler and stars Stefan Brogren, Aislinn Paul, Shane Kippel, Luke Bilyk, Munro Chambers, Lauren Collins and more reunited to celebrate the series’ lasting impact.
The Degrassi: The Next Generation reunion kicked off this year’s Atx Television Festival on Friday. For many of the cast members, reuniting with their on-screen classmates was just like meeting with longtime school buddies as they reminisced on favorite moments from the teen drama.
“What a joy it is to be reminded of those scenes we’ve done together over the years,” Schuyler told her team.
From scenes about sexuality and abortion to mental health issues, Schuyler and the Degrassi cast reflected on how the series unapologetically tackled controversial topics, which often caused more of a stir in the United States than in Canada when they first aired. Today’s shows like Euphoria,...

Rob Ford was always going to have his story come to the big screen one day. It’s just too juicy and larger than life. Somehow, the story of how Ford, the Mayor of Toronto, was finally caught up in a scandal that stuck, is brought to dull life in Run This Town. Instead of a riveting journalism procedural or an over the top political drama, we get things somewhere in between. The film thinks that it’s smarter than it is, more interesting than it is, and more important than it is. It all adds up to a major disappointment, especially if you saw the potential in this story. The movie is a drama about how the 2011 Rob Ford scandal came to be international news. At the beginning, we meet two of Ford’s top aides in Ashley (Nina Dobrev) and Kamal (Mena Massoud), who more or less run...

"I don't go 'ho ho ho', that's a myth." Netflix has debuted the full-length official trailer for the holiday film titled The Christmas Chronicles, starring Kurt Russell as Santa Clause. The film tells the story of a sister and brother, Kate and Teddy Pierce, whose Christmas Eve plan to catch Santa Claus on camera turns into an unexpected journey that most kids could only dream about. "No one is better suited than Kurt Russell to bring our version of a rugged, charismatic, and hilarious Santa Claus to life," director Clay Kaytis explains. The full cast includes Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Oliver Hudson, Judah Lewis, Lamorne Morris, Martin Roach, Darby Camp, and Lauren Collins. This looks like so much fun, at least until the weird little CGI elves show up. It does look like pretty much every other feel-good Christmas classic, with another "let's save Christmas" plot - but you know, I'm still so there for this.

Ben Lewis is joining the cast of the CW’s Arrow for a season-long arc after being introduced in Monday night’s season premiere as the future adult version of William “Will” Clayton, the son of Oliver Queen and the late Samantha Clayton.
The character was initially presented to Arrow viewers as a mystery man seeking Lian Yu, the island in the North China Sea where Queen (Stephen Amell) learned the skills that made him the show’s title hero. The climax of Monday’s episode revealed his surprising heritage during his unexpected encounter with Roy Harper (Colton Haynes) — but that only deepened the mystery since that meeting apparently takes place two decades in the future.
The character of young William Clayton has been portrayed since 2015 by Canadian actor Jack Moore, who recently appeared in the season 7 premiere of Arrow.

While most of us would probably dread going to our high school reunion, Drake managed to make it look like the best idea ever when he dropped the Degrassi: Next Generation-themed music video for his new single "I'm Upset" on Wednesday. Not only did he reunite all of our favorite characters - including Nina Dobrev (Mia Jones), Lauren Collins (Paige Brooks), Shane Kippel (Gavin "Spinner" Mason), Miriam McDonald (Emma Nelson), and Ephraim Ellis (Rick Murray) - but he also brought back a hotter-than-ever A.J. Saudin, who played Connor DeLaurier on the beloved teen series.
Although some stars were left out, like Daniel Clark and Ryan Cooley (who played Sean Cameron and J.T. Yorke respectively), we can't help but reminisce about our childhood with the epic throwback video that has us deep in our feelings. Keep reading to see all of the behind-the-scenes photos the former cast mates shared from...

Just when you think he's down for the count, Drake comes back to prove he's never out for long. After a brief quiet period following a rap beef with Pusha T, Drake dropped a surprise for all his fans on Wednesday night with the music video for his song "I'm Upset."
The high-school-reunion-themed video takes viewers back to Drake's days on the Canadian TV drama Degrassi: The Next Generation, on which he played the role of Jimmy Brooks from 2001 to 2009. It features a slew of his Degrassi castmates, including Nina Dobrev (Mia Jones), Lauren Collins (Paige Brooks), Shane Kippel (Gavin "Spinner" Mason), Miriam McDonald (Emma Nelson), and Ephraim Ellis, whose character, Rick Murray, shoots Jimmy Brooks and paralyzes him from the waist down during season four.

Drake’s former castmates from “Degrassi: The Next Generation” had a blast reuniting for his latest video, “I’m Upset,” shot this past weekend in downtown Toronto from the Air Canada Centre, where the rap star’s beloved Raptors play basketball, in addition to the Degrassi set in north Toronto, where the long-running teen drama still films.
He released the video Wednesday night and it already has more than 2.5 million views on YouTube.

Drake returns to his roots in the video for his song “I’m Upset,” which finds him returning to the scene that put him on the map in the first place, the TV show “Degrassi.”
Of course, the clip incorporates other narratives, and one is in the opening scene, where Drake wakes up next to a woman in a bed placed in the middle of the the Air Canada Center, the arena in which his beloved Toronto Raptors play basketball. The sound of his phone pinging a reminder of his high-school reunion.
Sure enough, as soon as he suits up and hits the Degrassi Community School, sure enough, the old gang is all there:

Donald Trump is reportedly a man of few friends — and he may have one less than he claims.
The president’s trip to Paris this week has raised questions about the existence of “Jim,” a City-of-Light-loving friend whom Trump referenced repeatedly on the campaign trail and who seemed to serve as a cautionary tale that leaders must be tough on terrorism or risk scaring off tourists.
Like Jim.
According to Trump, Jim used to visit Paris every year but he doesn’t go anymore because he came to believe that “Paris is no longer Paris.”

The kids of Degrassi had their own high school reunion last night! Before being known as Drake, Aubrey Graham made a name for himself as a Canadian actor starring on the Noggin series "Degrassi: The Next Generation." The rapper played Jimmy Brooks on the series, a basketball player who ended up in a wheelchair after a school shooting left him paralyzed. While he left the show in 2007, Drake met up with a trio of his former costars on Wednesday night at the Toronto screening of the new series "We Are Disorderly." At the event, he was seen taking photos with Daniel Clark (Sean Cameron), Adam Ruggiero (Maro Del Rossi) and Lauren Collins (Paige Michalchuk). The series they were supporting is directed by Samir Rehem, who directed a ton of "Degrassi" episodes, and written by Mazin Elsadig, who played Damian on the Noggin show. Drake – the rapper formerly known as Aubrey Graham – just reunited with three of his costars, and the photo is giving us major #ThrowbackThursday nostalgia.
Arguably the most notable alumnus of millennials' favorite Canadian school district, Drake played Jimmy Brooks, a basketball star who became paralyzed during a shooting. He even showed off his early hip-hop skills on the show, spitting verses on girlfriend Ashley's talent show ballad.
On Wednesday, Drake met up with his Degrassi squad Daniel Clark (Sean Cameron), Adam Ruggiero (Marco Del Rossi) and Lauren Collins (Paige Michalchuk) at the Toronto screening of We Are Disorderly.

People who experience sexual assault are rarely portrayed on television in a way that gives voice and meaning to their stories. 1 in 4 women experience sexual assault in their lifetime, and yet despite prevalent advocacy and awareness efforts, television still has a long way to go in telling stories surrounding sexual assault. This fact makes it all the more surprising that a 2002 episode of the Canadian program Degrassi: The Next Generation kicked off a story arc around a character’s sexual assault that would extend for years and serve as an empowering narrative around sexual assault, healing, and recovery.
Degrassi: The Next Generation was an early 2000’s re-imagining of the classic Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High series from the late 1980s and early 1990s. These shows focused around a class of students at a Canadian school and was a vehicle for addressing issues affecting teenagers, everything from homophobia to teenage pregnancy.

If you’re a fan of Degrassi: The Next Generation but you’ve never watched Comedy Central’s Kroll Show, do yourself a favor and fix that immediately. In The New Yorker, Lauren Collins investigates how Novak Djokovic overcame his tendency to choke in big matches on his way to claiming the No. 1 ranking, and why, despite being the best player in the world at the moment, he still can't seem to get any respect. Part of the reason is that Djokovic doesn't conform to the genteel standards tennis expects from its champions. "He could be annoying, with his bluster and his cheesy pranks," Collins writes, summarizing the view of Djokovic's critics. "His sensibility recalled the soccer stadium rather than the country club."
As further evidence of that lack of respect, perhaps, the New York Times Magazine's U.S. Open issue features not Djokovic but Roger Federer on its cover. Federer, arguably the...
