In 2021, Pointless fans had to come to terms with the fact that change is the only constant in this crazy, crazy world when the show’s co-creator and co-host Richard Osman left to pursue other career opportunities such as being an incredibly successful crime novelist, and taking the main seat on his own game show Richard Osman’s House of Games.
Good for Richard Osman, it all seems to be very going well for him. But for Pointless?
Taking its cue from satirical current affairs show Have I Got News For You?, which settled on a revolving carousel of guest hosts when its regular host Angus Deayton was forced to step down instead of plumping for a permanent chair, Pointless has welcomed a series of co-hosts in the past couple of years.
First up were Sally Lindsay, Stephen Mangan, Lauren Laverne, Alex Brooker, Konnie Huq and Ed Gamble. Next came Andi Oliver,...

Okay, nobody panic, but we think we might be onto something… we think comedian Jack Dee might be in Taskmaster series 17. And it’s about flippin’ time.
You see, quite predictably, Alex Horne has been asked many times over the years who his dream Taskmaster contestant is – and he’s been blissfully, almost eerily, consistent.
It’s Jack Dee. Yep, again, Jack Dee. Dream Taskmaster contestant is definitely Jack Dee. He really couldn’t make it any clearer: he wants Jack Dee on the show.
Even as recently as this March, when The Express asked him, he said:
“Jack Dee, and I say this anytime anyone asks me this question. I think it’s the only way to persuade him to do it. So, Jack Dee, if you’re listening, please do the show.”
And then, yesterday, Taskmaster released a video Q&a with Alex Horne on YouTube:

British entertainment has lost a truly unique talent. From drag to dogs, gameshows to the gay scene, trailblazer Paul O’Grady was one of our very best. Millions of us who’ve savoured his effervescent screen presence over the past 35 years have been left heartbroken by the news that he has died aged 67. O’Grady’s versatile career as a comedian, TV presenter, radio DJ and theatre performer means that there are few Britons whose lives he hasn’t touched. It’s not hyperbole to suggest that he attained national treasure status.
I first became aware of O’Grady – although I didn’t know that was his name back then – on the stand-up comedy circuit during the Nineties. As his drag queen alter ego Lily Savage, he was a roof-raising riot. With near the knuckle gags (“Me and my husband have an open marriage. I’m hopin’ he’ll f*** off...

Seann Walsh is reported to be one of this year’s competitors on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!
The comedian is thought to be joining the show as a “bombshell” late addition alongside former health secretary Matt Hancock.
Before his headline-making appearance on Strictly Come Dancing (more on that further down), the comedian and actor started out his stand-up career in Brighton. Walsh performed his 2012 show Seann to Be Wild at the Edinburgh Fringe and toured the country with it. His 2013 Fringe show The Lie-In King also received positive reviews.
Walsh had a role in Jack Dee’s ITV sitcom Bad Move, and made numerous TV appearances on shows such as Live at the Apollo and 8 Out of 10 Cats.

Have I Got News for You viewers are reacting to Boris Johnson’s “brutal” send-off episode.
As the end of Johnson’s time as prime minister grows nearer, the satirical series recorded a special instalment, titled “Have I Got News for Boris: A Very Special Tribute”, which was broadcast on Friday (2 September).
In true Have I Got News for You style, the BBC series didn’t hold back in roasting Johnson.
Near the beginning of the episode, panellist Paul Merton noted how the BBC had billed the episode as a “tribute”, with Ian Hislop quipping: “Tribute? Funny way to spell ‘good riddance’”. When guest Janet Street Porter stated: “I hope it’s going to be balanced”, Merton replied: “Yeah, absolutely. Yeah.”
Many viewers couldn’t get enough of the episode, which one person branded a fitting send-off”. However, others found the Jack Dee-hosted episode to be disrespectful, and called...

Remember thinking you’ve reached the end of a Christmas stocking, and then discovering an additional lump of festive fun stuffed right in the toe? Such joy. Thanks to Channel 4, that’s the case with this year’s Taskmaster, which has announced a one-off Christmas Special episode for 2020.
There’s no air date confirmed for the festive episode as yet, but seeing as the currently airing series 10 finale arrives on Thursday the 17th of December, it’ll be after that.
In 2017, the comedians-do-silly-challenges show aired a two-part Champion of Champions special at Christmastime featuring the winners of the first five series. This time, the Special will feature an all-new cast of five contestants brand new to Taskmaster.
Production company Avalon is staying coy about the newcomers’ identities, only announcing that “Our well-known contestants are experts in their respective fields, and will be revealed in due course.”

Josh Widdicombe's BBC sitcom pilot proved funny enough to be granted a full series.
The popular stand-up comic will lead the cast of Josh, following a successful Comedy Feed pilot online in 2014. The six-part series will air on BBC Three in November.
Co-written by Widdicombe and Tom Craine, it will be directed by frequent Steve Coogan collaborator David Schneider, and also stars Beattie Edmondson, Ellis James and Jack Dee.
Centred around grumpy and single Josh and his two flatmates Kate and Owen, his life is plagued with crappy situations such as a rubbish pool party and being played by his high school crush.
Jack Dee plays their bizarre landlord who inserts himself into their lives as much as possible, whether they want him there or not.
There will also be a host of celebrity cameos throughout the series, including Jennifer Saunders, Romesh Ranganathan, James Acaster and... The Chuckle Brothers!

Anthea Turner has spoken candidly about using Botox and undergoing surgery - and has absolutely no regrets.
The 55-year-old presenter - who returned to TV this week to front The Health Lottery - told the Daily Star that "Botox is a marvellous thing".

Alexander O'Neal has revealed his reasoning for quitting Celebrity Big Brother following his dramatic departure over the weekend.
The singer became embroiled in two unpleasant confrontations with showbiz blogger Perez Hilton, which resulted in a formal warning from Big Brother over O'Neal's use of an offensive term.
Speaking to CBB host Emma Willis on Celebrity Big Brother's Bit On The Side, Alexander revealed why he walked, saying: "I did it for myself and for my housemates."
He added that "the stress became unbearable" prior to his exit, and was subsequently forced to accept that the 'Perez problem' was not going to go away.
But Alexander is not the only disgruntled celebrity housemate to voluntarily leave, and we doubt he'll be the last.
Some, like Claire King, withdrew from the show due to illness, while others have been removed by producers.
But can you remember some of the former CBB stars...

Speaking on ITV's The Jonathan Ross Show, the diving star said that he "couldn't be happier" after revealing that he is dating a man.
Asked about his decision to speak about his relationship, the 19-year-old said: "It was a terrifying decision to make, I didn't know what the reaction was going to be like, I didn't know how it was going to go but I felt I needed to say something.
"I wanted to say something in my own words and from the heart, I didn't know what else to do.
"Right now I couldn't be happier, the support and reaction has been amazing, everyone has been so supportive and I just have to thank them," he continued.
The star also advised young gay teenagers to "tell one person" about how they feel.

The HeyUGuys Interview: Comedian Sean Lock Discusses Purple Van Man, his Latest Live Show out on DVD
With his latest live tour, Purple Van Man, currently available on DVD and Blu-Ray, comedian Sean Lock discussed his new show with us, while also declaring his desire to return to the sitcom – a decade since he created, and then starred in, 15 Storeys High.
Lock – who remains on tour, playing the very final dates of the sold-out, critically acclaimed show that is now available to purchase, spoke to us about drunk horses, dead frogs, and why he believes he’s always getting better with age. He also confirms his desire to return to sitcoms, why he avoids broadsheet reviews – and argues why The Producers is the greatest comedy film ever made.
I’ll start by asking about the title… Why Purple Van Man?
You always try to think of some title which doesn’t bind you too heavily to a subject or sound too deliberately kooky. I just thought the...

> Josh Widdicombe: 'Last Leg the kind of show Channel 4 set out to make'
"When I was a kid, Frank Skinner was the comedian I looked up to. There were various ones I was into like Jack Dee and Vic & Bob, but I loved Fantasy Football, because I was a big football fan.
"Reading his autobiography about how he became a stand-up comedian - I know Kevin Bridges said the same thing - you read that and go, 'That is what I want to do'. He was the one.
"I was just obsessed with comedy really. All that TV comedy, from Father Ted through to The Fast Show. When I was growing up in the late '90s it was a really amazing, fertile time for comedy.
"The best way to be influenced is to watch lots and lots of comedy, because then you don't sound like anyone in particular.

We’ve all got that cousin we don’t know very well. The kind you see once or twice a year, make small talk, ask how work is going, meet their kids you can’t remember the names of, and then go on your way, knowing six months are to pass before you have to go through it all again. Well, in regards to keeping up appearances, these cousins all need Christmas presents, and knowing what to buy somebody you don’t know very well, isn’t the easiest of tasks.
However that task has just been made far more accomplishable, as next week – which we’ve decided to extravagantly call the ‘ultimate week of comedy’ – marks the release of an incredible 10 stand up comedians’ live DVDs and Blu-rays, all hitting our (mostly virtual) shelves on November 18th, and where better to begin your festive shopping than with comedy? So,...
