Jeremy Renner is ready to resume his role as the figurative Mayor of Kingstown, exactly one year after the snowplow accident that nearly ended his life.
Last January 1, Renner — after using his personal Sno-Cat to help a nephew whose car was stuck in the snow, at the actor’s Lake Tahoe property — got out of the plow, which then started to roll. When Renner tried to get back in to stop the 1,400-lb. machine, it ran him over.

In a genre not traditionally given to brevity, James Marsh’s literary biopic “Dance First” at least has that on its side: In 100 minutes, it races through the key events and alliances in the life of Irish author and dramatist Samuel Beckett, even finding time for some metaphysical musings alongside the cradle-to-grave checklist. But Beckett’s characteristic terseness — or radical “lessness,” to borrow a title from one of his stories — isn’t a feature of this creditable but ponderous film, which ultimately achieves its efficient runtime by skirting any meaningful engagement with Beckett’s work and literary legacy. What’s left is an anatomy of his unhappiness via a procession of stymied or soured relationships: shot with grace, acted with intelligence, but short on Beckettian daring or wit.
It’s another biopic from Marsh, following 2014’s popular “The Theory of Everything” and 2017’s less-seen “The Mercy,” that resists bringing his...

Fionn O'Shea, Gabriel Byrne and James Marsh at the press conference Photo: Courtesy of San Sebastian Film Festival/Jorge Fuembuena The life of Samuel Beckett, although very little of the work, is explored in James Marsh’s Dance First, written by Neil Forsyth. The film, which is the closing night selection at San Sebastian Film Festival dips into the Waiting For Godot author’s life from childhood to death, featuring key performances from Gabriel Byrne and Fionn O’Shea as the author, alongside Sandrine Bonnaire and Léonie Lojkine as his wife Suzanne, with support from the likes of Aidan Gillen and Maxine Peake.
Speaking at the press conference in San Sebastian Gabriel Byrne said that “talking to himself” as the writer interrogates a second version of himself of the film was quite tricky.#

It was announced earlier this month that Mayor of Kingstown would be renewed for a third season, but Deadline reports that one of the series’ main stars will not be returning. According to their sources, Dianne Wiest won’t be back for Mayor of Kingstown season 3.
The series follows the McLusky family – power brokers in Kingstown, Michigan, where the business of incarceration is the only thriving industry. Dianne Wiest plays Mariam McLusky in Mayor of Kingstown, who is the matriarch of the McLusky family. The outlet reports that there have been rumblings that Wiest might be leaving the series for several months, with her exit said to be “story-driven.” I haven’t watched the series for myself, but those who do likely know how Wiest will be written out, given the events of the season 2 finale.
The scripts for season 3 of the series were written before the WGA strike began,...

Mayor of Kingstown is losing a pivotal player.
Deadline reports that Dianne Wiest is bowing out of the Paramount+ drama and will not appear on Mayor of Kingstown Season 3.
The outlet reports that Wiest's future with the series had been in flux for some time.
It doesn't sound like the actress was ready to leave the show.
Deadline says that the decision was driven by the story.
It happens frequently on TV shows because they constantly want to switch things up to keep viewers tuning in.
Wiest has played Miriam McClusky since Mayor of Kingstown Season 1, and there was no indication at the close of March's season finale that Miriam's time on-screen was coming to an end.
As a result, we don't know how this will be handled when the next episodes of the Taylor Sheridan drama hit the air.
Losing characters, especially good and well-written ones, is tough, so...

Mayor of Kingstown will have to make do without its matriarch when the Paramount+ drama returns.
According to our sister pub Deadline, Dianne Wiest — who plays Mariam McLusky in Taylor Sheridan’s thriller — will not be returning for Season 3. Her departure was creatively driven, per the trade. (As you’ll recall, Mariam was shot in the stomach in the Season 2 finale.)

Judging by its trailer, "Barber" is the story of a private investigator out to find a missing girl. A down-and-out protagonist, in over his head, stumbles onto a larger conspiracy that goes all the way to the top. If you've seen it once, you've seen it a thousand times, right? Not necessarily.
That may be the spine of "Barber," but half of the story is a family drama. The titular Pi has a loving relationship with his teenage daughter, and is trying to navigate how to raise her with his ex-wife. And instead of being set in the seedy streets of Los Angeles, the neo-noir capital of the world, this one's set in Ireland, a locale that's far from typical for this subgenre. Those two elements are enough to make this movie stand out from its contemporaries.
Add to that the fact that Aidan Gillen, the wonderful character actor from "Game of Thrones,...
