Even in the dramatic rise of American television there are some standout examples of the very highest quality, when we see the particular alignment of a strong and creative producer, an actor perfect for the leading role and the creation of a seductive and intriguing world. Boardwalk Empire is one such show, and one of the finest programmes on HBO, or any other channel at the moment.
It is to America’s past we turn to again for our weekly fix, following the recently cancelled Pan Am and with Mad Man still going strong, something is clearly striking a chord with the television audience, meaing that looking back is the way forward. Sopranos man Terence Winter has taken the book Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times, and Corruption of Atlantic City by Nelson Johnson and created a sprawling epic set in the America of the 1920s, facing an uncertain future,...

It appears Universal Pictures are not done with the cast announcements for “Snow White and the Huntsman.” Variety has reported actors Sam Spruell and Lily Cole will join the cast of Universal’s Snow White pic. They will join the cast that already included Chris Hemsworth, Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron. Earlier this month, Universal also announced actors in negotiations to play the warrior dwarves included Ian McShane, Eddie Izzard, Toby Jones, Bob Hoskins, Steven Graham and Eddie Marsan. Cole will play a character named Greta and Spruell will play Finn, the Queen’s assassin sent to kill the Huntsman and Snow White. Universal’s Snow White version is about the Huntsman sent to kill Snow White, but ended up training her to fight the Queen. Cole was best known for her role in 2009’s “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.” And Spruell has appeared in several movies including “The Hurt Locker,...

The Dwarfs are coming, but don’t hold your breath waiting for Grumpy, Bashful, or Doc to make an appearance because those boys apparently got lost in the woods.
We recently found out Ian McShane was the first to answer the call to unleash his inner dwarf as the leader of the clan, fittingly named Caesar. Now, THR brings word that Eddie Izzard, Bob Hoskins, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan, Ray Winstone, and Steven Graham are all in negotiations to follow McShane’s lead.
If the meetings go well, Hoskins will play blind dwarf Constantine, Jones will portray Claudius, and Izzard will be big and burly Tiberius. Meanwhile, Graham will play the angry Nero, with Marsan and Winston playing twins Hadrian and Trajan.
The new roster of names seems to give some weight to the buzz going around about this group of Dwarfs being more like kick-butt barbarian warriors instead of...

Now it’s just getting ridiculous. Over the past three days, we’ve been slowly learning who would be taking on the roles of the seven dwarves in Universal’s upcoming fairy tale project, Snow White And The Huntsman. With Ian McShane, Eddie Izzard, Bob Hoskins, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan, and Steven Graham all taking on six of those aforementioned seven roles, it’s about time that we learn who the seventh will be.

Ray Winstone is in final talks to play a warrior dwarf in Universal’s action adventure film Snow White and the Huntsman being directed by Rupert Sanders. Earlier we reported that Ian McShane, Eddie Izzard, Bob Hoskins and Toby Jones had been cast, as well as Eddie Marsan and Steven Graham.
Each of the dwarfs are named after Roman emperors with McShane playing the group’s leader, Caesar, Jones as a timid dwarf named Claudius and Izzard playing Tiberius, described as the biggest and burliest of the crew. Hoskins will play Constantine, a blind dwarf, Graham an angry-looking dwarf named Nero. Winstone will play Trajan, the twin brother of Hadrian (Marsan). Kristen Stewart is set to play as Snow White, Charlize Theron will play the evil stepmother, and Chris Hemsworth will take on the role of the burly Eric the Huntsman.

It’s still unclear if Universal’s “Snow White and the Huntsman”, their upcoming Rupert Sanders-directed “re-envisioning” of the famous fairy tale will feature actors “dwarfed” by way of CG for the movie (ala the Hobbits in Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings” trilogy), or if it will star regular sized actors playing “dwarf” characters who are actually not dwarfs in this new take. Yeah, I’m confused, too. Anyways, days after Ian McShane was cast as Caesar, leader of the dwarfs, Heat Vision reports more casting is under way, including Eddie Izzard, Bob Hoskins and Toby Jones, with Eddie Marsan and Steven Graham also in talks to sign up. Apparently the dwarfs here will be kinda long in the tooth, since I don’t think anyone of the names listed is under 50. At least, it’s completely different from what Relativity is doing with their version of...

Last month, Relativity Media and Universal Studios engaged in a game of “who can schedule their Snow White movie” first. With casting nearly complete and young favorites Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth in Snow White and the Huntsman, the latter planted their flag squarely in the summer month of June 2012. Relativity’s untitled version, to be directed by fantastic visionary Tarsem Singh, slid to March and, with tongue extended, a three month advantage.
After all the contentious schedule shuffling, Universal seems resigned to the reality that their Snow White “re-imagining” will be second. The studio hired Hossein Amini (Drive) to do rewrites for an August shooting date, as much a white flag from Universal as an absolute necessity for the troubled script. But that hasn’t stopped first-time feature director Rupert Sanders from padding the cast, which also includes Oscar winner Charlize Theron as evil stepmother Ravenna.

Clearly, Universal is going a completely different route with the casting of their take on the classic fairy tale Snow White and The Huntsman than Relativity did. In Relativity’s haste they have gathered seven no-name actors as their seven dwarfs, whereas Universal is going out on a casting hunt to find the perfect seven dwarfs. Yesterday the studio signed Ian McShane (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) to the cast, where he will be playing as the head dwarf. Now Heat Vision is reporting that Bob Hoskins, Eddie Izzard, and Toby Jones will also be playing as dwarfs.
The three of them will be joining Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart as Snow White, Sam Claflin as her Prince and Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen.
According to the blog, Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes) and Steven Graham are in negotiations to play dwarves in the film as well.

Hollywoodnews.com: Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth’s “Snow White and the Huntsman” is shaping up to be something truly bizarre … which, I hope, means something special.
Shortly after revealing that “Deadwood” star Ian McShane (who’s also terrifying Johnny Depp in the fourth “Pirates of the Caribbean”) has been cast as one of White’s seven dwarfs, THR is reporting that the gruff actor will be joined by Eddie Izzard, Bob Hoskins and Toby Jones, while Eddie Marsan (“Sherlock Holmes”) and Steven Graham are “in negotiations” to round out the pint-sized co-stars.

Universal's "Snow White and the Huntsman" is stocking up on warrior dwarves this week and is doing so by assembling some of the best British middle-aged character actors around to play them.

Universal wants to make Snow White and the Huntsman and they want to make it now. In a stiff competition with Relativity Media and their untitled Snow White project, Universal is already losing the release date race - it's being released June 1, 2012 while Relativity is releasing theirs on March 16th - but the production needs to start soon if they want to prevent the film from becoming a rush job. Just last night it was reported that Ian McShane had been cast as the lead dwarf and today's news shows that casting is moving quite quickly. THR reports that Eddie Izzard, Bob Hoskins and Toby Jones have all signed on to star as dwarfs, while both Eddie Marsan and Steven Graham are in talks. Not using the same characters from the classic Disney animated movie, Izzard will play Tiberius (the "biggest and burliest dwarf); Hoskins will be Constantine (who happens...
