The official trailer has been released for Sony’s “Harold and the Purple Crayon,” the children’s book adaptation from director Carlos Saldanha starring Zachary Levi and Zooey Deschanel.
Following the storyline of the 1955 children’s book from author Crockett Johnson, the film chronicles a man named Harold, played by Levi, who can create worlds with the help of his imagination and a purple crayon. In addition to Levi and Deschanel, Lil Rel Howery, Ravi Patel, Camille Guaty, Tanya Reynolds and Pete Gardner round out the film’s cast.
Saldanha’s directing background has largely taken place in the animated space, spearheading prominent children’s films such as “Ice Age,” “Rio” and its sequel “Ferdinand,” “Robots” and more. “Harold and the Purple Crayon” is set to be the director’s first live-action feature.

The upcoming adaptation of Crockett Johnson’s children’s picture book Harold and the Purple Crayon is getting ready for its summer premiere as the producers have released the first two posters for the movie. You can check them out here:
And:
Attempts to adapt Johnson’s children’s classic started back in 1992, but it wasn’t until 2021 that the idea finally became a proper project. The movie is going to be directed by Carlos Saldanha from a script written by David Guion and Michael Handelman, with Sony releasing the movie.
Zachary Levi is set to star as the titular Harold, and he was the first actor to sign on for the project. Unlike the original book, the titular protagonist is going to be portrayed as an adult man, portrayed by Zachary Levi; in the book, Harold is a child. Harold and the Purple Crayon is a beloved children’s book written and illustrated by Crockett Johnson about a curious four-year-old boy with a magic purple crayon that has the power to make anything he draws become real. Hollywood has been attempting to bring the story to the big screen for decades, and it seems that time has finally arrived. Sony Pictures has dropped a pair of posters for the live-action adaptation of Harold and the Purple Crayon, which stars Zachary Levi.
As you might be aware, Zachary Levi is not a four-year-old boy, so the movie is obviously switching up the story somewhat. Sony hasn’t released an official plot synopsis yet, but here’s my prediction: A now grown-up Harold has mostly forgotten about his magical purple crayon, believing it was a product of his young imagination. But when Harold finds himself in debt to the mob, he...

The Writers Guild of America 2023 strike is continuing to make a dent in upcoming Hollywood projects.
The strike began May 2, with multiple productions halting in solidarity with the demonstrations. The WGA strike took effect after six weeks of unsuccessful negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, representing the likes of Netflix, Disney, Apple, NBCUniversal, Warner Bros., Paramount, Amazon, and more. Writers are demanding better pay, residuals structures, and protection against AI as a replacement tool for their work, among other concerns.
While the strike has not yet affected some upcoming consecutive seasons of fan-favorite shows, “Saturday Night Live” and a handful of late-night talk shows including Jimmy Kimmel, “The Late Show,” and “The Tonight Show” have gone dark. Manhattan picketers have also protested outside filming on the latest season of “Billions,” though the long-running Showtime series has yet to come to a full stop.

Jason Priestley became a TV heartthrob on Beverly Hills, 90210, and now he’s back on Fox as a total heartbreaker! The Canadian actor-director-producer guest stars on Fantasy Island as Gavin Beck, a faithless doctor whose current wife (Amanda Tavarez) and two exes beg island steward Elena Roarke (Roselyn Sánchez) to grant their wish: that this lothario feel the pain he’s caused them! Here, Priestly breaks down his appearance in the Monday, May 8 Season 2 finale of Fantasy Island, fittingly titled “Mj Akuda & the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Wives Club.” 90210 never sent you to Puerto Rico! How was shooting in paradise? Jason Priestly: Really fun. It is a beautiful island with lots of historical sites—not to mention beautiful beaches! Beck sounds like a piece of work. How bad do the ladies stick it to him? Dr. Beck wasn’t the nicest character I’ve played. But he isn’t the worst either.

It's been a weird old time for JJ Abrams of late. Despite still being one of the most powerful creatives and producers working in the industry, he's seen his projects take a hit — a giant deal with Warner Bros. Discovery has seen slow development and several cancellations (including a Justice League Dark series), and Paramount has seen little forward movement on the Star Trek movie front – but it appears that the former relationship is finally paying off again as he as set up new series Duster at HBO Max starring Lost veteran Josh Holloway alongside Rachel Hilson.

For those like me who pay way too much attention to these sorts of things, you may remember the news that filmmaker J.J. Abrams had signed an immensely profitable deal with Warner Bros. Discovery. This enabled him to write, produce, and direct various projects on both the big screen and small, with the freedom to sell certain projects to other distributors as well as producing original stories for Warner Bros. and HBO Max. Discerning readers may also recall that, in the years since, absolutely nothing has actually come from that high-profile agreement -- not for lack of trying, mind you. There was that double-whammy announcement of a "Justice League Dark" project and a spin-off of "The Shining" called "Overlook" that had nerds everywhere all hyped up. Unfortunately, those ultimately never came to fruition for various reasons, along with an incredibly expensive sci-fi series called "Demimonde."

HBO Max, J.J. Abrams, and Latoya Morgan plan to introduce audiences to Duster, a period drama set in the Southwest starring Josh Holloway and Rachel Hilson. Duster is a concept Abrams and Morgan have been kicking around since April 2020, when it nearly got the green light from then HBO Max Chief Content Officer Kevin Reilly. Together, the duo aims to take down a crime syndicate taking root in the area. The streamer has picked up Duster, a 1970s-set drama from Abrams and Latoya Morgan (Into the Badlands, The Walking Dead). Rachel Hilson (Love, Victor, This Is Us) and Josh Holloway, who worked with Abrams on Lost, head the cast.
Duster is the first series to spring from a nine-figure film and TV deal Abrams’ Bad Robot company signed with WarnerMedia (now Warner Bros. Discovery) in 2019. In April 2020, Duster was one of three Bad Robot projects announced for the yet-to-launch HBO Max, along with The Shining offshoot Overlook and a Justice League Dark project. The latter two have since been scrapped (Bad Robot has shopped Overlook to other possible buyers), as has Abrams’ long-developing sci-fi series Demimonde (which was for the HBO parent channel) after concerns over its projected 200 million-plus budget.

Rachel Hilson will star alongside Josh Holloway in J.J. Abrams and Latoya Morgan’s period drama Duster as HBO Max has finally handed the project an official series order.
The project has been long in the works, it was first announced in April 2020, where it was seemingly given a series order by then HBO Max Chief Content Officer Kevin Reilly. However, that turned out to be development with a series commitment. It has remained active and recently landed an official series order after a pilot was shot.
Hilson will star as Nina, the first Black female FBI agent, who in 1972 heads to the Southwest and recruits a gutsy getaway driver, played by Holloway, the first in a bold effort to take down a growing crime syndicate.
Keith David, Sydney Elisabeth, Greg Grunberg, Camille Guaty, Asivak Koostachin, Adriana Aluna Martinez and Benjamin Charles Watson also star.

Wedding bells turn to sirens in “one of the biggest, most dynamic episodes we’ve ever done,” previews The Rookie‘s showrunner Alexi Hawley. Season 4 picks up from the cliffhanger, when escaped drug lord La Fiera (Camille Guaty) abducted Angela Lopez (Alyssa Diaz) minutes before the LAPD detective was set to marry public defender Wesley Evers (Shawn Ashmore). (Credit: ABC/Raymond Liu) “Since half the force was in attendance, expect an all-hands-on-deck mobilization,” Hawley continues. “This is a very personal attack on someone they care deeply about. They will risk everything to get their friend back.” Once the dust settles, the dramedy delves into romantic matters, including the new bond between a promotion-minded John Nolan (Nathan Fillion) — the P2 wants a fast track to training officer — and firefighter Bailey (Jenna Dewan). As for flirty fan-favorites Lucy Chen (Melissa O’Neil) and her former To, Tim Bradford (Eric Winter), well, Hawley is...

By the end of the fall finale, a deadly airborne virus had already claimed three victims, including Emt Tyler (played by Cougar Town‘s Dan Byrd). – Focus Features has acquired the North American and select international rights to Jason Reitman’s “Tully.” Written by Diablo Cody, the comedy stars Charlize Theron, Mackenzie Davis, Mark Duplass and Ron Livingston.
“Tully” tells the story of Marlo (Theron), a mother of three who is gifted a night nanny by her brother (Duplass).
