Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament is back. While studios during Covid wildly embraced the theatrical day-and-date model when cinemas were closed, they soon realized there’s nothing more profitable than a theatrical release and the downstreams that come with it. If anything, theatrical is the advertisement for a movie’s longevity in subsequent home entertainment windows. Entering the conversation in 2023 were the streamers, such as Apple, who have also realized the necessity of theatrical to eventize their movies. The financial data pulled together here for Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament is culled by seasoned and trusted sources.

Who’s ready for a joyride? The long-rumored Ferris Bueller’s Day Off spin-off, Sam and Victor’s Day Off, is ready to twist and shout with David Katzenberg at the helm. According to industry insider Jeff Sneider, Katzenberg is buckling up for a film featuring the two mischievous valets who borrowed Cameron’s father’s Ferrari to rip through the streets of Chicago joyously! In his newsletter, Sneider says the duo’s adventure takes place on a single day, with Sam and Victor grabbing life by the short and curlies for a fast-paced tear through city streets.
Sam and Victor’s Day Off will be Katzenberg’s feature directorial debut after helming numerous television episodes for various shows. Famously known in the industry for directing 41 episodes of The Goldbergs, Katzenberg’s director credits extend to Young Rock, 9-1-1: Lone Star, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, Schooled, Riverdale, and more.

John Hughes’ 1986 classic Ferris Bueller’s Day Off holds a revered place in cinematic history, cherished for its timeless charm and witty humor despite originating from the sitcom genre. However, the prospect of a spin-off film, tentatively titled Sam and Victor’s Day Off, has thrust the beloved original into the spotlight once more.
With Paramount Pictures at the helm, David Katzenberg is set to direct the anticipated follow-up.
Ferris Bueler’s Day Off
Yet, the reaction from die-hard fans of the original has been less than enthusiastic, casting doubt on the spin-off’s potential success. Critics argue that the decision to create a spinoff movie is motivated purely by financial gain rather than artistic integrity.
The sentiment among fans underscores apprehension that the spin-off could veer into the realm of disappointment, failing to capture the essence that made the original a cult classic.
Will Ferris Bueller’s Day Off Spinoff Diminish a Cult Classic?...

A year and a half on from the project’s announcement, the valet-centric Ferris Bueller spin-off flick now has a director, but its script still isn’t finalised, according to reports.
It was all the way back in August of 2022 that we heard that the iconic 1986 comedy, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, would be getting a spin-off movie. Apparently, the film is set to ‘follow the two valets who took Cameron’s father’s cherry red Ferrari on a joy ride through Chicago and had their own adventure on that fateful day back in 1986.’ If you watched Ferris Bueller’s Day Off then you know exactly what we’re talking about.
If you’ve never watched Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, then why are you here reading this when you could be watching Ferris Bueller’s Day Off for the first time?

"Five Nights at Freddy's" is one of the true video game success stories in recent memory, with the indie series becoming an absolute phenomenon in a real grassroots sort of way. As anyone would expect, Hollywood eventually came calling to adapt the tale for the big screen. And while horror maestro Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions fame finally managed to make it happen, it was a long journey that took a full six years. And even though he's a big-shot movie producer, Blum sees this as a real underdog situation for several reasons.
Speaking with IGN in June 2023, Blum explained how he and game creator Scott Cawthon spent years developing the film, which hits theaters and Peacock this fall. "Scott had been working on it as a movie with a studio for a while and that didn't work out, this is many years ago," Blum said. "Everyone said we could never get the movie done,...

HBO Max’s upcoming “Green Lantern” series is eyeing actor Jeremy Irvine for the role of Alan Scott.
Irvine would join Finn Wittrock in the series, who has been cast in the lead role of Guy Gardner. HBO Max declined to comment.
Scott was Earth’s first Green Lantern, who, true to the comics, is a gay man. He was created by Martin Nodell and made his comic book debut in 1940. A train engineer by trade, Scott derived his powers from a mystical green lantern crafted from a mysterious meteorite. He later joined the Justice Society of America, and in universe-hopping adventures would sometimes team with members of the Green Lantern Corps, including Hal Jordan.
Based on the DC Comics property, the show was first announced in 2019 and was ordered to series last year. The story spans decades and galaxies, beginning on Earth in 1941 with Scott, and then heading to...

Disney+ has ordered a horror anthology series for its streaming lineup… albeit nothing existentially-bleak like Black Mirror or even conventionally-nightmarish like Creepshow—after all, this is a Disney platform. Thus, subscribers will eventually be treated to Just Beyond, an adaptation of the comedic-horror graphic novels from iconic Goosebumps creator R.L. Stine.
Just Beyond will manifest on Disney+ as an 8-episode anthology series, placed under the creative purview of writer and executive producer Seth Grahame-Smith. A perennial player in the world of subversive (adult-aimed) horror, Grahame-Smith will be joined by executive producer David Katzenberg and an assembling writers room to adapt Stine’s four-volume middle-grade anthological graphic novel series, which features artwork from Kelly & Nichole Matthews, published by Boom! Studios.
As Grahame-Smith lauds of the Just Beyond gig in a statement:

Although the ’90s were very good to R.L. Stine and his fans, we are truly living in a new golden age of Stine right now. A new Goosebumps TV series is in development, a Fear Street film is on the horizon, HBO Max is developing an anthology series based on Stine's Point Horror books, and now Disney+ has given the green light to a series adaptation of Stine's Just Beyond graphic novels.
Based on the graphic novels published by Boom! Studios, written by Stine, and featuring interior artwork by Kelly & Nichole Matthews (with cover art by Julian Totino Tedesco), the Just Beyond Disney+ series is spearheaded by Seth Grahame-Smith (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) and 20th Century Fox Television. The horror comedy anthology series will initially consist of eight episodes and is expected to arrive on the streaming service in the autumn of 2021.
