"Transformers One" has released its first trailer, finally giving the public the peek that CinemaCon attendees got last week. Directed by Josh Cooley, the film looks to offer a breezy and colorful animated adventure akin to the "Spider-Verse" films.
Does the title "Transformers One" sound like a misnomer to you? Audiences have already been subjected to eight of these movies and they're infamously not good ("Bumblebee" is innocent and 1986's "The Transformers: The Movie" barely skirts by on nostalgia despite how cynical it was). Well, you see, the ninth "Transformers" movie will be going back to the beginning. Set on Cybertron, the home planet of the Robots in Disguise, the film is set before the Transformers got to Earth, before the Autobots and Decepticons went to war, and before Optimus Prime and Megatron had those names.

Abbott Elementary is back with another slam-dunk episode!
Hopefully, you can forgive the pun — the basketball game intro was a great start, though. This show rarely misses, especially when it comes to its cold opens.
In Abbott Elementary Season 3 Episode 8, we explore friendships, hookups, and professional stress.
Speaking of that cold open, when Tariq said he was thinking about starting a PTA at Abbott Elementary, did anyone think he was going to?
Consider us gobsmacked when we learned that he actually did it and named himself president. Honestly, are we supposed to take Tariq seriously?
Apparently so, considering he's the moderator at the education panel that Gregory and Ava have been invited to join.
This panel is a fun dive into Ava's past. We're introduced to someone she considers her nemesis, a sorority sister named Crystal. No one is surprised when she treats the panel like a competition.

Got a hankering for chocolate? Here’s how to stream Wonka online from the comfort of your own home!
The Timothée Chalamet-led film — which topped the 2023 box office and to date has grossed $590 million globally — introduces audiences to a young Willy Wonka as he becomes the world’s greatest inventor, magician and chocolate-maker. The prequel is (loosely) based on the Roald Dahl novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which was of course first adapted in 1971 as Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (with the great Gene Wilder in the title role). After a few years in limbo, the BAFTAs finally found a host to replace the much-missed Stephen Fry in David Tennant. The Doctor Who actor proved an amiable and funny emcee, although much of his humor would have gone way over the non-Brits in the audience, starting with a lengthy filmed skit riffing on his BBC TV series Staged, co-starring Michael Sheen. (You can watch it above.)
It was a night of surprises, not especially pleasant ones for the teams behind Barbie and Killers of the Flower Moon, and there were no egregious upsets. Neither were there any of the usual technical nightmares that have plagued the event in the past.
Instead, there were lots of low-key but memorable moments, like Oppenheimer’s Robert Downey Jr., dressed in a gray tail suit to collect his Best Supporting Actor award recalling his life in 30 seconds.
Da’Vine Joy Randolph was similarly charming on accepting her Best Supporting Actress award, swooning over presenter Chiwetel Ejiofor and bringing her Holdovers co-star Paul Giamatti to tears when she told him, “I cry every time I see your name.” Equally emotional were June Givanni, receiving this year’s Outstanding Contribution award; Samantha Morton, whose BFI Fellowship was awarded after filmed testimony from Tom Cruise; and the whole audience, who went wild for Still’s Michael J. Fox who handed out the Best Film award to Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.
Wonka star Keegan-Michael Key, presenting, sustained a surprisingly funny attempt to pretend to be British, and, taking the first award of the night for Best Original Screenplay, husband and wife team Justine Triet and Arthur Harari joked that their murderous marital drama Anatomy of a Fall had taken on a life of its own.
All night, speeches were crisp and clean, with only the teams behind The Zone of Interest and 20 Days in Mariupol bringing politics into the conversation, even after Tennant gave the go-ahead by mentioning the recent murder of Alexei Navalny, subject of last year’s Best Documentary winner.
The musical numbers left a lot to be desired. Sophie Ellis-Bextor performed her Saltburn showstopper “Murder on the Dancefloor,” which is more than a few rungs down from Shirley Bassey doing “Diamonds Are Forever” in 2022. Meanwhile, Hannah Waddingham doing a slowed-down version of Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time” wasn’t quite what the particularly touching obituary sequence was crying out for. By far the worst of all, though, was a comedy routine by Nick Mohammed performing as a sweaty light entertainer called Mr. Swallow. We must never think or speak of it again.

“I want to thank everyone involved with the show, our incredible cast and crew and writers, our wonderful supporters at Broadway Video, Universal and Apple, for everything they did to make it happen. It’s a miracle we even got two seasons, honestly, and I’m so grateful we did,” he continued. “And to all the fans of the show out there, thank you with all of my heart. Your love and support has meant so much,...

It was 10 years ago that Keegan-Michael Key got his first voice casting in an animated film, The Lego Movie. It was the start of a big new career for him — since then, he’s made 13 more, including the new film Migration. Key told us that, as he’s gotten more experience working as an animated voiceover artist, he’s learned more and more about how to bring characters to life, which usually has him getting pretty animated himself. It’s the big holiday weekend, and for many families, it’s the perfect time for a big getaway. Oh, we’re not talking about a brief trek “over the river and through the woods”. Nope, how about a big excursion like the McCallister clan in the original Home Alone? Come to think of it, it’s strange that the Grisswalds don’t travel anywhere in Christmas Vacation, though Cousin Eddy drops in from afar. But I digress. Now if that’s what human families do, then how about animal families? To be more specific, those “fine feathered” families. Now in this new animated feature, it’s not ‘”yuletime”, but the temps are starting to fall prompting those web-footed folks to join a big southbound Migration.
Oddly enough this story begins, actually, during storytime. Papa of the Mallards, Mack (voice of Kumail Nanjiani) relates a cautionary fable of ducks leaving...

A family of ducks ends up on the adventure of a lifetime when they decide to head south for the winter in Illumination’s animated film Migration.
Mack Mallard (voiced by Kumail Nanjiani) is an overprotective father who has found the perfect place to raise his two young ducklings, Dax and Gwen (voiced by Caspar Jennings and Tresi Gazal), alongside his wife, Pam (voiced by Elizabeth Banks). It’s a lovely, safe area known as Moosehead Lake and has everything they could ever need, including a pond, plenty of food, and even a fixer-up shelter.
The only problem? Pam, Dax, and even little Gwen are starting to become curious about what exists outside their little world. When a group of migrating ducks takes a rest stop at the pond, Pam and Dax strike up a conversation. The Moosehead Lake duck...

Illumination is a rare animation studio, in that they have landed upon a formula for the majority of their films and they seem perfectly content in hewing to that formula no matter what stories are being told. The studio thrives on mid-budget films that bring together a recognizable ensemble, some pop songs, and stories that feel vaguely cribbed from Pixar Animation Studios without being out-and-out plagiarism. Illumination, like DreamWorks, also leans heavily on turning its films into lengthy franchises, which has given us the obnoxious and leaden "Despicable Me" series (including its multiple "Minions" spin-offs), the obnoxious and leaden "Sing" films, and the obnoxious and leaden "The Secret Life of Pets" films. For this holiday season, Illumination is trying to do another original film, but much like the first "Secret Life of Pets", the new film "Migration" is original in name only, while feeling like a flavorless mishmash of "Finding Nemo" and "Ratatouille.

Chris Meledandri’s Illumination animation house has had a boatload of hits from Despicable Me and Minions to 2023’s global smash The Super Mario Bros Movie. But in between, this underrated (in terms of awards) producer of delightful and genuinely funny toons creates new franchises by embracing originals such as The Secret Life of Pets and Sing, winners both in my book. Now, just in time for the holidays, comes Migration, about a family of ducks on the adventure of a lifetime. It is the kind of animated entertainment that all ages will find something to like, and in terms of the creative talent involved, it is a breath of fresh air in the genre.

Wonka Cast Salary Revealed! ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Timothee Chalamet walked in Johnny Depp’s shoes and appeared as Willy Wonka in the latest film Wonka. The movie has a stellar cast, including Hugh Grant and Rowan Atkinson, to support Timothee’s titular character. But they are all veteran Hollywood stars; Tim is one of the most talented actors of the present generation. The star cast must have packed a handsome salary for this fantasy musical film by Paul King.
Previously, Johnny Depp entertained us to the fullest by bringing his quirks in the character of Willy Wonka when he appeared in the role in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The movie reunited the iconic actor-director duo of Depp and Tim Burton in 2005. Besides Depp, Gene Wilder’s Wonka is also one of the most iconic portrayals of the character. The official trailer of the Chalamet-led movie came out around four months ago.

What makes Willy Wonka such a maverick? It’s not his inventive confections, nor his inventive wardrobe, nor his inventive methods of torturing naughty children. No, what really sets Mr. Wonka apart is his willingness to sell chocolate at reasonable prices affordable to the working class.

Keanu Reeves may have inspired the name of Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key’s hit comedy feature Keanu. But at first, it didn’t seem like Reeves wanted anything to do with the picture until an unexpected phone call.

Christopher Gattelli appeared at Deadline’s Contenders Television: The Nominees awards-season event after receiving his second consecutive nomination for his work creating the numerous dances in Schmigadoon!, which takes a satirical look at the world of movie and Broadway musicals.
Last year, the Apple TV+ series, created by Cinco Paul, dealt with the 1950s. But for its second season the possibilities really opened up for Gattelli as Schmigadoon! became Schmicago, spoofing the likes of Bob Fosse, Hair, Stephen Sondheim and more. In fact Gattelli, as a performer, last appeared on Broadway in the show Fosse, so this season became second hand to him thanks to his personal experience.
“Season 1 with the ’50s had its its pluses with the kind of long shots and the long takes and the getting of the full dancers bodies and a lot of the shots and whatnot, but this this season was a lot of...

The push includes a contest in which users share their scores from Wordle, Spelling Bee and the crossword puzzle on social media, tagging their friends and the hashtag #NYTGamesChallenge. Winners will get swag or other prizes. But the grand prize? Michael-Key in their group chat with friends and family.
“I am going to play to win,” Key tells The Hollywood Reporter in an interview. “I’m going to have to be as competitive as possible. I’m a competitive guy. So I want to say that it’s not any big deal, but I’m going to try to draw blood.”

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the Schmigadoon! Season 2 finale.] Schmigadoon! Season 2 stuck the landing with its May 3 finale. Season 1 helped heal Melissa (Cecily Strong) and Josh’s (Keegan-Michael Key) relationship, but Season 2 taught them how to find happiness amid life’s many obstacles. After spending six deliciously seedy episodes in the darker world of Schmicago, Melissa and Josh left the magical town, choosing their real-life over fantasy. As the season’s final song states, the ending was a happy beginning. In the video above, the stars of Schmigadoon! share their happy memories of filming Season 2’s musical numbers. Strong and Key break down the Sweet Charity-inspired “Talk to Daddy” from Episode 4 and Strong’s star-moment, Cabaret-inspired Episode 5 solo “Maybe It’s My Turn Now.” Ann Harada and Jaime Camil sing the praises of their Promises, Promises, and A Chorus Line-themed scenes. It's over and done, but aren't you glad it happened?
On Schmigadoon! Season 2 Episode 6, Josh and Melissa get their Finale Ultimo, which turns out to be a "Happy Beginning."
The singular sensation Ariana DeBose is back, opening up the episode with a fabulous tribute to 1981's R&b musical Dreamgirls.
DeBose hasn't been featured as prominently in Schmigadoon! Season 2 as she was in Schmigadoon! Season 1, likely due to her career taking off after her Oscar win -- but this is a beautiful way to showcase her doing what she does best.
DeBose delivers dramatic, dynamic vocals with elegance and glamor. The number sets the tone for the rest of the episode perfectly.
Once again, Cecily Strong proves what a marvelous actor she is. We know there will be a happy end, but her commitment to the proceedings is admirable. Patrick Page's Kratt somehow remains both dapper and dastardly. His evil knows no bounds!

Across the history of cinematic screw-ups, few have been as notorious or lasting as 1993’s Super Mario Bros. The film – a loose adaptation of Nintendo’s hit platforming franchise, starring Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo – came to epitomise the “curse” of sub-par game-to-screen adaptations for decades. Hollywood simply didn’t understand video games. Hoskins was oblivious to the film’s origins until he’d already signed on, and who could blame him? Even if he had played the games, the murky, off-putting crime fantasy was unrecognisable from the eye-poppingly colourful frivolity that inspired it. Thirty years later and the Mario games have been adapted again. But this time The Super Mario Brothers Movie suffers from the opposite problem: it understands video games far, far too well.

Where’s the “Beef”? Try Netflix.
The darkly comedic show from Lee Sung Jin stars Ali Wong and Steven Yeun as two strangers in Los Angeles who become engaged in an escalating feud fueled by revenge following a road rage incident that is the complete opposite of a meet-cute (meat-cute?). Critics have been raving about the new series, which hit the streaming service April 6 after premiering at South by Southwest, and while the comedy races are filling up fast in the wake of “Ted Lasso’s” return, both Wong and Yeun could snag Emmy nominations for their performances. This could be Netflix’s best series in years, and that’s why “Beef” is what’s for dinner is the awards contender to watch this weekend.

Last month, Rocky Morton and Annabel Jankel went to the theater to see “Super Mario Bros.,” a movie they directed 30 years ago — and haven’t watched since.
The live-action 1993 film, starring Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo as Mario and Luigi, bombed at the box office and landed on various “Worst Movies of All Time” lists, later developing a passionate cult following. In the directors’ own words, “Super Mario Bros.” was so “reviled” that it left a “black mark” on the married couple’s careers.
That is, until a midnight screening held at Quentin Tarantino’s New Beverly Cinema on March 11 “washed away the stain.”
“My thought was that there would be 10 or 20 people there,” Morton tells Variety. “But it was jam-packed. There were people queueing up around the block for extra tickets.” During the film, Morton says the audience was “laughing and clapping at all the right places. They weren...

“My thought was that there would be 10 or 20 people there,” Morton tells Variety. “But it was jam-packed. There were people queueing up around the block for extra tickets.” During the film, Morton says the audience was “laughing and clapping at all the right places. They weren...

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Schmigadoon! Season 2 Episodes 1 and 2.] They say play what you know, but Keegan-Michael Key had to pretend to hate musicals in Schmigadoon! Season 1. Much to his glee, that’s no longer the case in Season 2, based in the seedy, magical town of Schmicago. In fact, it’s Cecily Strong‘s show tunes-loving Melissa who finds herself disliking the new era in which they land. Inspired by the Broadway musicals of the ’60s and ’70s — the era of Fosse and Sondheim and Bacharach and more — Schmicago is a dark, dangerous place where murderers run free and the truth hardly matters. When this tale starts out, Melissa and Josh are married and their true love found in Season 1 is the strong foundation of their lives. But life’s other disappointments make their happy ending less than ideal. They seek out Schmigadoon to get their whimsical serotonin fix, but instead wind up...

"Schmigadoon," Apple TV+'s musical series that parodies iconic stage productions of the past, is back for season two - but don't expect the Golden Age musical numbers from season one. Season two - which the show renames "Schmicago" - turns its attention to the darker and sexier musicals of the 1960s and 1970s. Those productions - like the reference for the new title, "Chicago" - feature sex, murder, trauma, and war, and often don't end happily. In the series, Melissa (Cecily Strong) warns Josh (Keegan-Michael Key) that she's not as familiar with the shows of this era, so if that's you, too, we've got you covered. These are the biggest musical references for "Schmigadoon" season 2, aka "Schmicago."

The very first song of the series, "Welcome to Schmicago," is a parody of "Magic to Do" from the 1972 musical "Pippin," and the choreography is very similar,...

“The Super Mario Bros. Movie” is here. While the reviews have been decidedly mixed (our critic loved it), there’s probably a part of you – however small – that doesn’t care what the write-ups say; you are going to see a brightly colored, vibrantly paced animated feature based on one of the most beloved videogame properties of all time. And there’s nothing any review can say that will make you veer from your mission.
But the question remains – is there a post-credits scene after the actual movie, which stars Chris Pine (as Mario), Charlie Day (as Luigi), Jack Black (as Bowser), Anya Taylor-Joy (as Princess Peach), Keegan-Michael Key (as Toad) and Seth Rogen (as Donkey Kong)? Or are you free to gather up your belongings and exit your Mario Kart as soon as the adventure is over? Read on to find out!
Major spoilers for “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” follow!

I have come to speak on behalf of those for whom traditional musical-comedy is their happy place. For these lucky souls, I bear the great news that the delightful Emmy-winning Schmigadoon! has once again landed on Apple TV+ with its love for the form evident in every spot-on parody lyric from inspired composer and series co-creator Cinco Paul. In Season 2, however, when contemporary couple Melissa (Saturday Night Live’s Cecily Strong) and Josh (Keegan-Michael Key) seek respite from their disappointment in the real world — reason enough to retreat to the world of musicals — they are stymied in their attempt to revisit the Brigadoon-like 1940s fantasyland of upbeat Rodgers & Hammerstein-style show tunes. Instead, they are plunged into a sexier, more sinister underworld of tantalizing tunes. “Welcome to Schmicago,” purrs the mischievous new narrator (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s ...

Summer 1993. Dinosaurs ruled the world again in more ways than one as Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park devoured the box office in June of that summer. And that was despite being strangely unfancied after the director’s run of form that year and the big leaps needed to make the film work. Instead, it famously took down Arnold Schwarzenegger and Last Action Hero, released the weekend after. But it wasn’t the only film with dinosaurs in it that summer, as there was the small matter of the long-awaited Super Mario Bros a few weeks earlier but they were made extinct even quicker.
