Beyonce’s “Texas Hold ‘Em” has topped Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, the publication announced on Monday, marking the singer’s ninth time atop the chart as a solo artist and the 13th in total when including her songs with Destiny’s Child.
“Texas Hold ‘Em” dethroned Jack Harlow’s “Lovin On Me,” which had spent much of 2024 at Number One — save for Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” at the start of the new year and for the debuts of Ariana Grande’s “Yes, And” and Megan Thee Stallion’s “Hiss.

Elvis Presley and Priscilla Presley manage to inspire celebrities to this day. For several different reasons, some fans see Lana Del Rey as Priscilla’s modern equivalent. Here’s why that’s the case — and why Del Rey didn’t write a tune for the soundtrack of Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla.
Lana Del Rey wasn’t able to pen a song for ‘Priscilla’
Del Rey’s haircuts and outfits from her early career are very reminiscent of Priscilla’s style from the 1960s. On top of that, Del Rey has referenced the “Blue Suede Shoes” singer throughout her career. For example, her songs “Million Dollar Man,” “American,” and “Body Electric” all allude to Elvis or his songs, while Elvis is a character in Del Rey’s Tropico alongside Adam, Eve, Jesus Christ, and the Virgin Mary. Del Rey’s “The Greatest” also has some instrumental similarities with “Can’t Help Falling in Love.

Elvis Presley is known as the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, but his influence on country music is profound. Patty Loveless discussed how Elvis inspired her to make an album her brother and sister would have loved. Interestingly, the one single from the album is a cover of a George Jones classic.
Why Elvis Presley, Patsy Cline, and others inspired a Patty Loveless album
In 2008, Loveless released an album called Sleepless Nights, which refers to itself as a “Traditional Country” album on its cover. During a 2008 interview with CMT, Loveless said the album was inspired by the musicians her older siblings, Roger and Dottie, played to her as a child.
“They would play those old records of Brenda Lee, Patsy Cline, Connie Smith, Ray Price, Jim Reeves, and George Jones, of course, and Elvis and everybody else,” Loveless recalled. “At a very early age, I was exposed to that music...

Elvis Presley inspired more country songs than you can shake a pair of blue suede shoes at. One of the more famous ones is Patty Loveless’ “I Try to Think About Elvis.” The track was initially more masculine. Here’s why it got changed.
Patty Loveless’ ‘I Try to Think About Elvis’ was originally about handguns and red meat
While Loveless brought “I Try to Think About Elvis” to life with her vocals, she had nothing to do with its writing. “I Try to Think About Elvis” was written by Gary Burr. Burr is also known for writing country classics like Juice Newton’s “Love’s Been a Little Bit Hard on Me” and Tim McGraw’s “Can’t Be Really Gone.”
During a 1995 interview with American Songwriter, Burr discussed how “I Try to Think About Elvis” evolved. “I had to rewrite ‘Elvis’ because it was a very testosterone-driven song,...

Listening to favorite Christmas songs is a vital part of the entire holiday season. Our new photo gallery ranks the Top 30 greatest tunes from worst to best. We only had two rules for assembling our list: each song can only be featured once and the same goes for each artist.
We chose what is considered the most definitive version of each song as performed by the singers most associated with the tunes. Of course, certain people most known for Christmas had to be included — Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, Judy Garland, Perry Como, Andy Williams, Mariah Carey and more.
Among our list you’ll find Rock and Roll Hall of Famers such as Elvis Presley, Bruce Springsteen, Darlene Love, Brenda Lee and The Eagles. And we didn’t forget songs that originated from great TV specials like “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “Frosty the Snowman,” “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

Artists don’t always appreciate other artists. Quentin Tarantino was a massive fan of Elvis Presley but not The Beatles. On top of that, he preferred a band that’s often accused of copying The Beatles to The Beatles themselves.
Quentin Tarantino rejected The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, and many other rock stars
In the 2022 book Cinema Speculation, Tarantino discussed learning about music history from his friend Floyd. “I was all ears about this firsthand rock ‘n’ roll history, because I wasn’t into ’70s white-boy rock,” he said. “I didn’t give a f*** about Kiss, I didn’t give a f*** about Aerosmith, I didn’t give a f*** about Alice Cooper or Black Sabbath or Jethro Tull. I didn’t own Frampton Comes Alive! I openly rejected that entire culture.
“At 16, I think I heard of Bruce Springsteen, but I’d never heard Bruce Springsteen,” he added.

Have you looked at the Billboard Hot 100 lately? If not, you’re in for a treat. The Christmas classics have flooded in and shaken everything up, making for one slightly surreal snow globe that features Doja Cat, Bing Crosby, Burl Ives, and Gunna all rocking around the same tree. Speaking of which: Sixty-five years after its release, Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” is finally at Number One. In another 65 years, “Cruel Summer” will probably still be in the Top 10. If we’re lucky, Jason Aldean’s “Try...

Several singers and songwriters have tried to claim the title of “Queen of Christmas” over the years. Depending on your age, you probably have a favorite, ranging from Darlene Love to Dolly Parton.
But Mariah Carey, who tried unsuccessfully to trademark the title (which would have allowed such branding on items ranging from fragrance to dog toys), seems to have given her blessing to Brenda Lee this week.
Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You has become ubiquitous since its 1994 launch. But she seems willing to share the spotlight with a predecessor.
She sent flowers after Lee this week topped the Billboard Hot 100 singles charts with her holiday hit, Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree, some 65 years after it was recorded. Lee was just 13 when she recorded the boppy tune. Although it has been on the charts, it never hit No. 1 until this year.

Can there be any lingering doubt about who truly holds the Queen of Christmas crown? Brenda Lee has returned to the top spot of the Billboard Hot 100 chart with “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” 65 years after the song’s 1958 recording.

At 78, Lee becomes the oldest person to ever top the chart, a record previously held by Louis Armstrong, who was 62 when “Hello, Dolly” peaked in 1964.

From the minute Dolly Parton could talk, she was singing. Sometimes, she felt singing by herself wasn’t enough. She had dreams of being a star, after all. She needed to practice working with backup singers. So the “Coat of Many Colors” singer would often rope her sisters into performing with her.
The Queen of Country admits she ‘musically abused’ her sisters
In Parton’s first memoir, Dolly: My Life and Other Unfinished Business, she writes about how she used to all but force her sisters to sing with her.
“My sisters were musically abused,” she wrote. “That is the only way I can think of to describe what I put them through in my constant search for musical satisfaction. Stella and Cassie were my chief victims. Of course, I was always the star, and I made them sing backup.”
Parton would make any kind of deal, promise, or threat...

Willie Nelson has now been selected for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2023. But it not the first time that someone is inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville and the rock institution in Cleveland. In fact, he is the 16th inductee into both halls. Nelson was voted into the country music museum back in 1993.
The list of 15 people so far only includes two women — Brenda Lee and Dolly Parton. The king of rock and roll — Elvis Presley — is among the group, along with solo singers Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bill Monroe, Jimmie Rodgers and Hank Williams. Instrumentalists are Chet Atkins, Floyd Cramer and Johnny Gimble. Sun Records founder Sam Phillips is included along with two groups — the Everly Brothers and Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys.

Willie Nelson is known for songs like “On the Road Again” and “Beer For My Horses.” His song “Always on My Mind” was recorded by other country artists, becoming a favorite of Nelson fans. Here’s what we know about the significance behind this 1982 release.

“Always on My Mind” was originally recorded by Brenda Lee, and later reworked into a song by Elvis Presley. One of the best-known versions of this hit was recorded by “On the Road Again” artist Nelson.

Toward the end of National Anthem, D’Angelo Lacy in splendiferous drag sings a powerful a cappella rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” while an assembled group of Queer Rodeo competitors and spectators stand in reverent silence through that hymn of patriotism, hands on hearts. Given that the recently passed Tennessee bill banning drag performances is looking to spread through red states and legitimize transphobic discrimination, the scene takes on added poignancy. That helps bolster the emotional heft of first-time writer-director Luke Gilford’s gentle New Mexico-set story of self-discovery in a chosen family.
Gilford knows the setting well. He grew up in the Southwest, with fond memories of attending rodeos with his father as a kid, only later becoming aware of how homophobic and narrow — white, Christian conservative, macho — mainstream rodeos could be. Returning after years of studying art and working in New York, Gilford discovered the International Gay Rodeo Association,...

These days everything and everyone is “iconic.” But here, at the center of five rich and unrushed episodes, is the real deal. As he approaches his 90th birthday, the composer of such immortal numbers as “Crazy,” “Night Life” and “On the Road Again” is still writing songs, still playing to concert crowds. Delving into the incomparable songbook, directors Thom Zimny and Oren Moverman show how Willie Nelson broke the country mold and transcended genre boxes, again and again. Their authorized biography — the musician’s wife and his manager are executive producers — is a love letter, to be sure, and like Nelson himself it doesn’t dwell on negativity, but there’s nothing simplistic or naive about it. Willie Nelson & Family is a portrait of a man who has made music and lived life on his own terms, in good times and bad.

Merry Christmas, one and all, it's time to break out the mince pies (as if you haven't already), pour the prosecco and put on some festive music.
Christmas songs don't always have to be merry – among the most beloved festive tunes are "2,000 Miles" by The Pretenders, which is curiously bleak, and the heartbreak of Wham!'s "Last Christmas".
Of course, there are plenty of upbeat songs on our list, too, from Brenda Lee's "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" to Mariah Carey's"All I Want for Christmas is You".
Here are some of our favourites, from Forties classics to more recent pop hits, to get your Christmas celebrations into full swing.
18) “Happy Xmas (War is Over)” – John Lennon and Yoko Ono
There’s a caveat to the optimistic message of the song’s title. “War is over,” sing a choir of children over festive tambourines, but only, they add,...

Listening to favorite Christmas songs is a vital part of the entire holiday season. Our new photo gallery ranks the Top 30 best tunes from worst to best. We only had two rules for assembling our list: each song can only be featured once and the same goes for each artist.
We chose what is considered the most definitive, greatest version of each song as performed by the singers most associated with the tunes. Of course, certain people most known for Christmas had to be included — Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, Judy Garland, Perry Como, Andy Williams, Mariah Carey and more.
SEETop 20 Greatest Christmas TV Episodes, Ranked Worst to Best
Among our list you’ll find Rock and Roll Hall of Famers such as Elvis Presley, Bruce Springsteen, Darlene Love, Brenda Lee and The Eagles. And we didn’t forget songs that originated from great TV specials like “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,...

Mariah Carey has risen to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts once again with “All I Want For Christmas Is You” and unseated Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero” after a six-week streak at the pinnacle of the list.
In fact, it took the combined powers of Carey’s holiday classic and Christmas to knock Swift off. The top four spots were taken by Christmas songs. Following Carey was Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” Bobby Helms’ “Jingle Bell Rock” and Burl Ives’ “A Holly Jolly Christmas.”
The fifth spot went to “Creepin'” by Metro Boomin, The Weeknd and 21 Savage followed by Swift that dropped five spots to land at No. 6 for the chart dated Dec. 17, 2022, after spending its first six weeks on top.

Mariah Carey wants to trademark the title "Queen of Christmas," but a few other reigning holiday icons think she's going too far with the legal effort.
The drama began when Carey, known for her iconic single "All I Want For Christmas Is You," filed for the trademark in March 2021, though the filing only became public on July 12, per the trademark application, which is viewable online. It would apply to a wide range of goods, from fragrances to jewelry, glassware, clothing, and (unsurprisingly) Christmas ornaments.
In response, Elizabeth Chan, who only sings Christmas music and whose most recent album was called "The Queen of Christmas," spoke out strongly against Carey's efforts. "Christmas has come way before any of us on earth, and hopefully will be around way after any of us on earth," she said to Variety on Aug. 15. A massive stroke in 2013 left Randy Travis with a vocabulary limited mostly these days to "yes" and "no." But on Tuesday, he haltingly coaxed out two more words - "thank you" - as he accepted country music's highest honor: a place in the Country Music Hall of Fame. Struggling to say more, the 56-year-old artist finally motioned for his wife, Mary, to take over what she herself called the "daunting task of being the voice of this man who so eloquently put words to melody to make beautiful music." The poignant moment capped the announcement of the Hall's 2016 class, which...

Lampert worked on songs performed by Brenda Lee, Steve Lawrence, Red Foley, The Lettermen and others. She also was a writer on a Beatles song, "Nothin Shakin' (But The Leaves On The Trees)" that wasn't released until 1994 on "Live At The BBC."
Lampert helped provide music for movies starring Bob Hope, Cary Grant, Buster Keaton and others.
She is survived by Stuart, president of Rainbow Music Corp., her husband of 45 years.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. Wednesday at Riverside Memorial Chapel.

With the arrival of December, Christmas music is pretty much inescapable. Whether it's "Jingle Bells" playing at the grocery store or "Here Comes Santa Claus" on the radio, holiday music is everywhere. But the one song that is getting just a little bit more play than the rest? Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You."
In 1994 the R&B diva lent her powerhouse vocals to the holiday tune and "All I Want for Christmas Is You" has been seemingly on repeat ever since. Billboard released the first 2012 Holiday Songs Chart this week, and once again Mimi's Christmas hit topped the list.
Carey's rendition of "All I Want for Christmas Is You" is met on the holiday charts by other festive favorites including Brenda Lee's "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," Nat King Cole's "The Christmas Song (Merry Christmas to You)," and Burl Ives' "A Holly Jolly Christmas.

Nashville, Tenn. — When the members of Lady Antebellum sat down to plan out their new Christmas album they faced a choice: Toss it off or take it seriously.
In the end, the platinum-selling trio of Hillary Scott, Dave Haywood and Charles Kelley put in as much or more work than they had on any of their three previous studio albums. For a simple reason.
"These things live out long past some of your other records because every season it comes back," Kelley said.
"It could potentially outlive us, literally," Scott said. "You think about Bing Crosby and some of those classic versions of Christmas songs, and it's like we could be that. Which is crazy and heavy in a way."
"On This Winter's Night" will be released Oct. 22. It's notably different from previous Lady A work, filled with lush orchestral moments, string sections and more full-band arrangements than they've previously attempted.
