Katy Perry is out after this season of American Idol wraps.
The announcement came before Season 22 debuted, and as the contestant pool narrows down and it gets closer to crowning a winner, there is some concern about who will step in and fill her seat at the table.
When ABC revived American Idol, the network brought together Katy, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan to work some television magic.
The trio has hosted the show since the revival in 2018, and after seven seasons, Katy is set to walk away.
While names have been tossed around here and there since her exit was announced, a recent mentor appears to top her list of who should replace her.
That’s right, Katy is here for Jelly Roll possibly taking over the third judge chair on the panel.

Emmy Russell has vivid memories of her childhood, riding in the tour bus alongside her grandmother — or Meemaw as Russell calls her — Loretta Lynn. She’d sometimes join her onstage or they’d sing “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” together.
It took years, though, for Russell — who lives in Nashville and recently auditioned for American Idol — to finally embrace the “gift” Lynn always said she had.
“All the time, she’d be like ‘When are you going to come back and do what you’re made to do?'” she tells Rolling Stone.

Yearwood will use her first appearance on the annual awards show in five years to premiere “Put It in a Song,” the first preview of a forthcoming album that will be a first in her career, in that it’ll be the first collection in which she co-wrote all the songs.

Emmy Russell, granddaughter of the late country pioneer Loretta Lynn, wowed the American Idol judges during Sunday’s episode and began to make her own mark on the music industry.
Leading up to her performance, Russell revealed she’s a descendant of the bonafide legend and proceeded to give a tour of her Meemaw’s house. “She’s one of the biggest country music singers of all time, but to me, she’s just Grandma,” the 24-year-old musician said. “I think I am a little timid, and I think it is because I want to own my voice… That’s why I want to challenge myself and come out here.”
From there, Russell stepped behind the piano to deliver an emotional performance of her original song “Skinny,” which was written about eating disorders. “Sleeping on scales is just what I’m used to,” she sings on the track. “I haven’t eaten in days.

Though he has played his share of rednecks in films, Oscar, Golden Globe and SAG Award winner Tommy Lee Jones is in real life a top-notch polo player and famously was Vice President Al Gore‘s roommate while both were studying at Harvard. Jones is an actor who is always full of surprises.
Having gotten his start acting in soap operas and independent films, Jones quickly moved up the ladder, earning his first Golden Globe nomination as singer Loretta Lynn‘s husband in “Coal Miner’s Daughter” (opposite Academy Award champ Sissy Spacek). As his work continued to grow, so did Jones’ trophy case. In his film career of over four decades, Jones earned four Oscar nominations three Golden Globe nominations (also including a win for “The Fugitive”) and four Screen Actors Guild nominations (including two SAG trophies for 2007’s “No Country For Old Men” and 2012’s “Lincoln”).

Opening with a fiddle and banjo straight out of a folk recital, “You’re the One,” the title track on Rhiannon Giddens’ third album under her own name, starts the way one would expect a Giddens song to open. Addressing one of her children, she sings in a voice that’s warm and comforting, yet firm and watchful. Then the unexpected happens: With a jolt of drums and crashing chords, the music erupts in a mini-maelstrom, and you’re neither in Kansas, or a typical Giddens album, anymore.

Lana Del Rey surprised fans in Rogers, Arkansas, Tuesday night with a rendition of Tammy Wynette’s Number One country hit from 1968, “Stand by Your Man.” The stage was dark when the first chords struck and Del Rey, who’s been dressing a bit more Loretta Lynn than Wynette on this tour, intoned the opening lines, “Sometimes it’s hard to be a woman,” to the delight of the crowd. Her backup dancers swayed and “oohed” and a couple of dancers at the head of the stage pulled off ballroom lifts and dips.

Schmidt’s four-decade career includes some of the biggest films of the late 20th Century, including Zemeckis’ “Back to the Future” trilogy, “Contact” and “Cast Away.” He also received his two Oscars for “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” and “Forrest Gump,” the latter of which won Best Picture.
Born in Los Angeles, Schmidt’s career followed in the footsteps of his father, Arthur P. Schmidt, who also had a decorated editing career with films like “Ace in the Hole,” “Sabrina,” “Some Like It Hot,” and Billy Wilder’s legendary noir “Sunset Boulevard.”

Sinéad O’Connor’s life and career were marked by cycles of rage and forgiveness. For the Irish singer-songwriter, the world’s ills and evils could be traced back to the Roman Empire—and the Roman Catholic Church in particular. Her beef with the Church didn’t repel her from religion, but propelled her into a perpetual search for meaning amid what she viewed as corruption, abuse, and injustice.
O’Connor’s fiery debut album, 1987’s The Lion and the Cobra, is rife with allegorical stories about war, ghosts, and slain dragons, signaling from the very start that she wasn’t just an artist, but a warrior. Her quest for justice and salvation deepened and matured over the years, reflected in her 1997 EP Gospel Oak, 2000’s Faith and Courage, and 2007’s ambitious Theology.

Sinéad O’Connor was as world-renowned for fervid rock & roll and adventurous pop as she was for her defiant stance on often-controversial issues. But the Irish-born musician also recorded a handful of modern country-music covers — and even performed a duet with a country legend.
O’Connor, whose death at age 56 was announced Wednesday, was already a galvanizing figure in popular music when she released her third album, Am I Not Your Girl, in the fall of 1992. A collection of lushly orchestrated jazz and pre-rock pop covers, the LP also included O...

Chris Cuomo said Karine Jean-Pierre is struggling as White House press secretary, in part because she lacks “certain relationships” with members of the media — but when guest Bill O’Reilly suggested he step in to save the day, the NewsNation host said no way.
“Kjp is not knocking it out of the park in that job,” Cuomo said on Wednesday night’s “Cuomo” during a spirited exchange with O’Reilly. “It takes a very specific kind of person to do that job effectively. When it comes to messaging from that pulpit, you’ve gotta have certain relationships with people in the media.”
Cuomo and the former Fox News host, author and podcaster were taking a caller’s question when they segued into Jean-Pierre’s tenure as press secretary and President Biden’s unprecedented refusal to take unscripted questions from members of the media.

Well, that was something. The 2023 ACM Awards ended on a Texas-sized downer, with Dolly Parton giving the premiere of the new song “World on Fire” from her upcoming rock project and showering the audience not only with confetti, but with a sense of impending doom while dancers twirled around her.
“What we gonna do when it all burns down?” she sang, backed by a stomp-clap rhythm straight out of late-Nineties Shania Twain. It sounded sort of urgent at first, but then she also sang vague things like “When did we lose in God we trust,...

At the 58th annual Academy of Country Music Awards, the top prize, entertainer of the year, was handed out to Chris Stapleton, even as Lainey Wilson and Hardy came away tied for top honors with four awards each — including shared wins for their duet, “Wait in the Truck.”
Wilson was the night’s top winner, if it came down to number of categories in which she prevailed. The singer won for best female artist, best album, visual media and music event (the last two both for “Wait in the Truck”). Hardy won in three categories — best artist-songwriter, visual media and music event — but the ACMs counted him as winning twice in the music event division, as both an artist and producer on “Wait in the Truck,” upping his count for the night to four.

Christine McVie’s cause of death has been revealed as a stroke, with cancer as a secondary factor, People reports.
Upon her death in November 2022, the Fleetwood Mac artist’s family said she passed away “following a short illness.” But McVie’s death certificate, first obtained by The Blast, notes that she suffered an ischemic stroke, which occurs when a blood clot blocks or narrows an artery leading to the brain, preventing brain tissue from receiving oxygen and nutrients. She had also been diagnosed with “metastatic malignancy of unknown primary origin,” meaning cancer cells had spread throughout her body from an unknown place.
McVie’s death certificate also notes that the artist was suffering from “atrial fibrillation,” an irregular and often very rapid heart beat that can lead to blood clots in the heart. Atrial fibrillation increases the risk of stroke in patients.

When Kacey Musgraves bought a home in Nashville in 2020, it felt like a “fresh start” to the country singer. She was fresh out of a divorce from ex Ruston Kelly and wanted a blank slate for her personal touches.
Two years later, she was ready to move again — for a tidy profit. She passed the secluded Nashville home to another country maven. While Kelsea Ballerini, newly divorced herself, might be making herself at home in Musgraves’ old pad, Musgraves likely kept many of the personal, unique touches she put into the home — including a vintage French bed frame that dates back to the 1800s.
