Exactly ten months have gone by since MGM+ announced that they had ordered a third season of the sci-fi horror series From, and since we’re now also about halfway to Halloween, this seems like the perfect time for them to unveil a teaser trailer for From season 3. You can watch the teaser and get the first look at the season, which will begin airing sometime this fall, in the embed above.
Written and created by John Griffin, From is described as a “contemporary sci-fi horror series”. The show aims to unravel the mystery of a nightmarish town in middle America that traps all those who enter. As the unwilling residents fight to keep a sense of normalcy and search for a way out, they must also survive the threats of the surrounding forest – including the terrifying creatures that come out when the sun goes down.

A couple months ago, we heard that season 2 of the series From would begin airing on MGM+ (formerly known as Epix) on April 23rd. Now a trailer for the new season has arrived online, and you can check it out in the embed above.
I haven’t watched the first season of From – our own Alex Maidy has, and said “From definitely is worthy of a multi-season run” (you can read his 7/10 review Here) – so I was surprised to see just how creepy the trailer for season 2 is. A quote in the trailer even confirms the show has creeped out the great Stephen King… so I’m definitely going to have to start watching this series.

“Lost” producers Jack Bender and Jeff Pinkner are back with the twisty new mystery series “From,” which debuts Feb. 20 on Epix. Instead of stranding people on an enigmatic island, the series, which reunited them with “Lost” star Harold Perrineau, is set in a nightmarish Midwestern town, where no one can ever leave and terrifying creatures prowl after sunset.
During an Epix panel at the Television Critics Association this week, Bender and Pinkner discussed how the series — which is created and executive produced by John Griffin — won’t make the same mistakes “Lost” did, where some mysteries ended in disappointing reveals or were never answered at all.
“I think that having done ‘Lost’ and then taking the lessons of ‘Lost,’ the storytelling lessons and sort of ran them through a filter fringe and tried to apply them here, I think we’re approaching every season like its own chapter with its...

It's been a rough road for Mitch MicDeere. Now, it's come to an end -- at least on NBC. The Firm has been cancelled after one season of 22 episodes.
The Firm picks up years after the young attorney (Josh Lucas) made his deal with the mob to take his old crooked law firm down. He and his family have come out of hiding but their problems haven't gone away. The show also stars Molly Parker, Callum Keith Rennie, Juliette Lewis, Natasha Calis, Tricia Helfer, Martin Donovan, Shaun Majumder, and Paulino Nunes.
The series represented one of NBC's biggest launches of the season but it misfired right from the start. The two-hour premiere brought in a dismal 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with just 6.32 million viewers.

Where will this one land?

Chicago – If NBC’s “The Firm” was viewed as a court case, the jury would probably be deadlocked. The problem is that most modern TV viewers don’t try a case again. If they consider a premiere a creative mistrial — something with elements that work but not completely engaging enough to make it an instant addition to the Season Pass Manager — they usually don’t come back. Ask fans of the now-canceled “The Chicago Code” and “Prime Suspect,” two shows that significantly improved after flawed premieres but it was too late. It may already be too late for “The Firm.”
Television Rating: 3.0/5.0

Chicago – With stars that have found critical success before on television in shows like “The Sopranos” (Michael Imperioli), “Arrested Development” (Will Arnett), and “Felicity” (Keri Russell) there was reason to be excited around a year ago when it came to “Detroit 1-8-7” and “Running Wilde,” two shows with little in common other than the fact that their first seasons will be their only seasons and they were both recently released on DVD courtesy of Lionsgate.
Blu-Ray Rating: 2.5/5.0
What happens when a show doesn’t become a hit but you still have a commitment to release episodes on DVD? Lionsgate knows well that few people will be rushing out to buy the 13-episode, truncated season of “Running Wilde,” one of the biggest ratings failures of the 2010-11 season. But they need to release it anyway, and so here it is without a single special feature and without a Blu-ray edition. This...

With tones of NYPD Blue and Hillstreet Blues, Detroit 1-8-7 instantly reminds of some of the great, gritty cop dramas from television.s past . which is probably why the series didn.t make it past one season before getting cancelled by ABC. The series featured an incredible ensemble cast that was led by a quirky performance from Michael Imperioli (distancing himself from his mob character from The Sopranos). The series focused on a homicide squad from an inner Detroit precinct that is forced to deal with the deadly violent side of the Motor City on a daily basis. The cast includes James McDaniel, Aisha Hinds, Jon Michael Hill, Shaun Majumder, Natalie Martinez, Erin Cummings, and D.J. Cotrona. The...

On Detroit 1-8-7, a dedicated group of detectives fight hard to keep their city safe. Unfortunately, not enough people were interested in watching that battle. ABC has cancelled the TV series after just one season.
Detroit 1-8-7 follows a group of tough homicide detectives who work on the streets of one of the toughest cities of America. The TV series stars Michael Imperioli, Aisha Hinds, D.J. Cotrona, Erin Cummings, James McDaniel, Jon Michael Hill, Natalie Martinez, and Shaun Majumder.
Though many felt that the series was one of the strongest cop dramas to come to network TV in years, most of the general public wasn't that interested. It stumbled right out of the gate when the premiere attracted just a 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 9.342 million total viewers.

ABC has unveiled yet another cop series, Detroit 1-8-7. This one stars Michael Imperioli who, as you may recall, co-starred on ABC's Life on Mars a couple seasons ago. That one was cancelled after 17 episodes. Will his new show last any longer?
Detroit 1-8-7 follows a group of homicide detectives working on the tough streets of Detroit, Michigan. The ABC series stars Imperioli as well as Aisha Hinds, D.J. Cotrona, Erin Cummings, James McDaniel, Jon Michael Hill, Natalie Martinez, and Shaun Majumder.
In its premiere, the series attracted a lackluster 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 9.342 million total viewers. For the timeslot, it was in third (last) place for the all-important demo and in second place for total viewers (beating Parenthood).
The series premiere lost nearly half of its lead-in audience from Dancing with the Stars.

Chicago – ABC’s “Detroit 1-8-7” attempts to do for Motown what “NYPD Blue” did for the Big Apple by detailing the personal and professional lives of a group of tough cops in a very tough city. Shot entirely in the Motor City, “Detroit 1-8-7” has potential and shows improvement in its second episode but is ultimately too weighed down by the cliches of its genre to be effective.

Michael Imperioli (“The Sopranos”) stars as Detective Louis Fitch, an unusual and troubled man who has difficulty getting along with other people but usually gets his man. Imperioli is well-cast and could turn this character into an interesting one if given the time to do so. Fitch isn’t your typical TV eccentric cop and it’s easy to see what drew Imperioli to the show.

ABC‘s Detroit 1-8-7 (premiering tonight) has a few stumbling blocks to get past if it hopes to draw in the kind of ratings that are going to keep it around. The first, and most obvious, is the simple fact that it’s a homicide investigation series swimming upstream through a flood of new and returning cop shows and legal dramas. As much as the genre has a lot of historical momentum, there are probably only so many people can watch.
The second is that it is a police drama that abandoned its shtick. Originally working a “documentary” angle, the show ditched that idea midstream in favor of a simple, straight-forward drama. The first couple of episodes still tell that tale by way of the camerawork, and the occasional glimpse into the lens. It still looks like its working the gimmick, there just isn’t any mention of it. Detroit is a beaten-down city. It's been bleeding jobs and residents for years, and as the opening voice-over in "Detroit 1-8-7" tells us, the city has one of the highest murder rates in America.
Those dire real-life circumstances make for a very rich setting for a crime drama, though, and ABC's new series (which premieres at 10 p.m. Et Tuesday, Sept. 21) uses the Motor City extremely well. The location shooting and some very strong performances lift it above standard cop-show fare.
The show you'll see Tuesday night is different than the one the show's creators originally intended. The first pilot was shot documentary-style, and the cops occasionally talking to the camera worked pretty well. But after the pilot filmed, the city of Detroit banned film crews from following cops on the job, the result of a real-life incident in which a young girl was killed during a raid filmed by a reality-show crew.

"Detroit 1-8-7" is a new turn on an old genre.
Disclaimer: These posts are not reviews -- shows often make tweaks to their pilot episodes between filming in the spring and their fall debuts. Full reviews will come closer to the premiere date.
What it is: ABC is revamping the procedural. "Detroit 1-8-7" is a documentary-style look at the homicide division of the Detroit Police Department.
Who's making it: David Zabel ("ER," "Dark Angel"), newcomer Jason Richman, Kevin Hooks ("Prison Break," "Lincoln Heights"), David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman, who both worked on "The Proposal."
What to look for: Michael Imperioli ("The Sopranos," "Life on Mars") steals every scene he's in as the hardened 10-year veteran Detective Fitch. Relative newcomer Shaun Majumder as son-of-immigrants Det. Vikram Mahajan and Aisha Hinds ("Hawthorne," "True Blood") as the lieutenant in charge of the division also caught our eye.

The Fall TV Season presentations for all the new network shows take place this week with the third announced today. Here's a full breakdown of which concepts have made the final list over on ABC.
The Alphabet solidly finished this past season with five of the top fifteen highest-rated TV series in the key Adults 18-49 demographic - "Grey's Anatomy," "Lost," "Desperate Housewives," "Dancing with the Stars" and "The Bachelor". Yet there's an obvious concern that the network has been floundering a bit when it comes to new shows - especially in terms of scripted drama which has been its greatest strength in modern times.
ABC had success launching four comedies last year, with both "Cougar Town" and "Modern Family" becoming ratings hits and the latter drawing critical acclaim. "Hank" outright flopped, but "The Middle" did well enough to get renewed. With reality shows it continues to do strong business...

Chicago – ABC continues to look for another “Lost” or “Modern Family” this fall with seven new shows announced today at their 2010 upfronts presentation. The network will see changes on four nights of the week but will bring back the sometimes on-the-bubble “Castle” in its Monday night timeslot while saying goodbye to “FlashForward,’ “Scrubs,” and “Better Off Ted”.
Stephen McPherson, president, ABC Entertainment Group, said this morning via press release, “Our passion for great storytelling is at the core of everything we do. Finding and supporting writers, directors, producers and actors who share that passion is critical to our success. Our shows are the product of these collaborations, and we are thrilled to add 10 new series to our schedule next year.” (Seven will premiere in the fall with three more reserved for midseason.)
