After two years in stealth mode, the curtains have finally parted at Stage 13, Warner Bros.’ home-grown digital production company offering an array of shows and creators decidedly different from its blockbuster franchises such as The Dark Knight, Harry Potter, The Matrix, and The Hangover.
The company gave me an exclusive behind-the-scenes look as it prepared to publicly launch its first slate of programming. It marks a notable experiment by a big media company, coming at a time when content is flooding consumers. The question will be whether its multicultural programming can resonate with the diverse audiences its shows are tryig to reach.
“It was exciting to have a big media company say, ‘Yeah, we’re going to double down in this area,’” said Diana Mogollon, the site’s general manager and senior vice president. “It’s about Warner Bros. walking the walk.”

Time to move on. The Originals, which began as a spinoff of The Vampire Diaries, is ending after its fifth season, executive producer Julie Plec announced on Thursday, July 20.

The CW’s “The Originals” will come to an end after five seasons, showrunner Julie Plec announced on Twitter on Thursday. “It’s both a gift and a burden to be able to control the ending of a series,” Plec wrote. “Many shows are not lucky enough to have a hand in deciding when the end has come. Being able to celebrate the completion of ‘The Vampire Diairies’ was a joyful and deeply emotional ride, a luxury gifted by Mark Pedowitz at The CW and Peter Roth at Wbtv, who, as TV fans themselves, know what it means when a fan is.

I'm sure there are a lot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans out there who would love to see a revival of the series. Even one of the producers on the original series is still hoping that it happens someday. THR recently talked to producer Gail Berman about the show's legacy and the conversation turned to talk of a revival. All Berman is waiting for is a call from creator Joss Whedon. Here's what she had to say:
"I would be really happy to get the call from Joss. I have my own thoughts of what it would look like, but my own thoughts are not important. It would be what he thought. I will always let everyone know this is all about Joss. I did everything I knew on how to to be supportive of that, but the stories, the direction, the writing and the tale telling, that's all Joss.

The CBS series Supergirl, based on the DC Comics property of the same name, is currently in limbo. Its first season wrapped a month ago, and we still don't know if it'll ever come back. The series began its run with a premiere that attracted 13 million viewers, but then suffered steep losses as the season wore on. The show, produced by Greg Berlanti- the same man who handled Arrow and The Flash for The CW Network- is very costly, and that makes its future especially murky.
According to The Wrap, CBS is having a hard time justifying keeping Supergirl on its slate. The show costs the network $3 million per episode to produce. It also skews younger than the network's typical demographic. This has led to a standoff between CBS honcho Les Moonves and WB TV chief Peter Roth.

One of the biggest differences between Marvel and DC's approach to television has been that of how the properties are linked. Marvel has opted to include all its film and TV properties as part of the same cinematic universe, whereas DC is not only keeping its film and TV worlds separate but allowing the TV properties to go off into either their individual or combined universes.
The biggest difference is this allows multiple versions of the same DC character to appear at any one time - from both Grant Gustin and Ezra Miller playing the small and big screen versions of The Flash respectively, to a show like "Gotham" having essentially free reign to develop whatever villains they want. If Marvel's "Daredevil" wants to use Thor, they'll need Chris Hemsworth to cameo in the role.

Love ‘em of hate ‘em, you’d have to admit that The CW’s DC superhero TV shows have done an excellent job of cross-promoting their characters with Arrow and The Flash, and next year they’ll be adding a whole new series to the mix: DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow.
We’ve known that the show was set for an early 2016 premiere for a while, but now, thanks to a recent interview with Warner Bros. president of television Peter Roth, it appears that we have an exact air date.
Greg [Berlanti] is currently shepherding the highest rated number one and two series of the year, with a third series, Legends of Tomorrow, that we have very high hopes for, on Jan. 21.
So, there you have it, folks, January 21st is when the show will finally be with us. And given what we’ve seen so far from it, we can hardly wait.

Thanks to low ratings, ABC cancelled Selfie and then pulled the new sitcom off the schedule. There are six episodes left unaired.
While the network hasn't made an official announcement, Selfie creator Emily Kapnek tweeted, "Unofficially? All remaining episodes of #SelfieABC will soon be on Hulu, Hulu Plus & http://ABC.com Hugs to Peter Roth @warnerbrostv"
On the Selfie TV show, social media superstar Eliza Dooley (Karen Gillan) realizes that she's disconnected from the real parts of her life and enlists her company's marketing guru, Henry Higgs (John Cho), for help. The rest of the cast includes Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Allyn Rachel, Tim Peper, Natasha Henstridge, and David Harewood.
What do you think? Do you plan on watching the rest of the Selfie episodes? Would you rather see them on TV?

Vancouver, BC. It's time to bring out the big guns. Last month, I was on a "Supernatural" 200th episode red carpet in Vancouver. So far this week, I've posted the majority of the interviews. First I posted my red carpet Q&As with series creator Eric Kripke, plus long-time Ep Robert Singer and slight-less-tenured Ep Adam Glass. Then I posted my Q&As with supporting favorites Misha Collins, Felicia Day, Mark Sheppard and Genevieve Padalecki. But now, with Tuesday (November 11) night's 200th episode just hours away, it's time to post my interviews with Sam & Dean Winchester themselves. Because of all of their photo responsibilities and their various commitments at the party, I got Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki at the very end of the red carpet time and Jared in particular was only able to spare a couple minutes. But they're still fun, if brief, interviews. They're also the only...

Never again, TV Academy. Never again. I don't care if NBC has to do the Emmys in August because of football and if NBC is scared of going head-to-head with a competing award show. Doing the Emmys on Monday is just wrong. But we shall trudge on! Seth Meyers is hosting. Some fantastic TV shows and actors are nominated. Follow along. Comment below. Join the fun. Make the fun. 8:00 p.m. Et. That was some of the worst Red Carpet pre-show I've ever watched between E! and NBC. I never thought I'd miss Ryan Seacrest, but there ya go! 8:00 p.m. Seth Meyers was just outside being interviewed by Billy Bush just two minutes ago. How will he make it inside? How?!?!? 8:00 p.m. A countdown! 20 seconds to go. 8:00 p.m. And now Seth is inside on-stage. How Is That Possible, Billy Bush?!? 8:01 p.m.

I interviewed "Undateable" executive producer Bill Lawrence and Adam Sztykiel at a noisy bar in Pasadena shortly before a press conference in mid-April. Going back and transcribing the 35-minute interview is bittersweet. At the time, Lawrence had two shows in limbo -- TBS' "Cougar Town" and Fox's newly premiered "Surviving Jack," which he EPed along with creators Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker. While Lawrence wasn't directly involved with "Enlisted," he has a close relationship with "Enlisted" and "Cougar Town" creator Kevin Biegel, whose comedy was newly shelved. Since that time, "Enlisted" and "Surviving Jack" were both cancelled. "Cougar Town" was renewed for a final season on TBS. At the time, Lawrence also wasn't feeling especially confident about "Undateable." The multi-cam sitcom, which features Chris D'Elia as seemingly cocksure ladies man Danny, who mentors the less confident Justin (Brent Morin) and his group of allegedly "undateable" friends. "Undateable" had been...

Fox’s upcoming Batman prequel series, Gotham, shot up our list of most-anticipated new shows with this week’s trailer debut. Many had questioned how a show about Gotham City before Batman roams the streets – and focusing on up-and-coming detective Jim Gordon – would turn out, but a lot of those worries have been put to rest.
Now, new questions have popped up in their place. Luckily for us though, showrunner Bruno Heller has opened up in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, divulging the details of the show’s conception, tone, characters, overall plans, living up to Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, and more.
Heller confirms that the show will be serialized, rather than adopt a week-by-week procedural format. He also says that he’s got the entire first season (which will consist of 13 episodes) planned out, and hopes that it’ll go on for six or seven seasons.

Warner Bros Animation’s Evp Creative Affairs Sam Register has been promoted to President, Warner Bros Animation and Warner Digital Series. The second part of the title refers to Register’s role as head of a newly formed live-action digital content production unit where he will oversee the development and production of original live-action digital series, working with both Warner Bros TV-based creative talent as well as outside writers and producers. The studio already has such a division in Studio 2.0, which has spawned series like Childrens Hospital, which migrated to TV via Adult Swim. It is unclear whether Studio 2.0 will be absorbed by the new unit or remain autonomous. Register also will continue to run Warner Bros’ television animation unit as president, after having served as Evp Creative Affairs for the past six years. He will continue to report to Warner Bros Television Group President and Chief Content Officer Peter Roth.

Warner Bros TV‘s head of development Susan Rovner is further expanding her turf, also taking over development for the studio’s cable division Warner Horizon TV. Rovner and top Wbtv business executive Brett Paul have been named co-presidents of Warner Horizon Scripted Television. They succeed Warner Horizon Evp Craig Erwich, who left this month. Rovner, who will continue in her role as Evp Development for broadcast-focused Wbtv, will also be spearheading the development and programming of the studio’s cable scripted series. Paul, who already had been involved in Warner Horizon’s business operations, will maintain his role as Evp of Wbtv, while assuming formal oversight for all business operations for the cable production unit. The process of Warner Horizon’s split into scripted and unscripted began last summer with the hire of former Fox alternative head Mike Darnell to lead all of Wbtv’s reality and syndication efforts.

Angus T. Jones, formerly the highest paid child actor in TV history, says he was a “paid hypocrite” during his time on CBS comedy Two and a Half Men because he “wasn’t okay” with being “part of something that was making light of topics in our world where there are really problems for a lot of people.” Jones, now 20 and a student at the University of Colorado in Boulder, talked to Houston TV station Khou over the weekend; he was in town to speak at the World Harvest Outreach, a Seventh-Day Adventist congregation,” the station said. “I really want to come into the light because I know that is where the healing is and I’ve seen God do amazing things,” Jones said. World Harvest Outreach Church Pastor James R. Doggett Sr., told the station “I’m not sure [Jones] cares a whole lot about being an actor or being well known,...

Exclusive: I have learned that Warner Horizon Evp Craig Erwich will be leaving his post atop Warner Bros TV’s cable/alternative division. I hear Erwich opted not to renew his contract and will stay on until his current deal is up in March. Erwich was the No. 2 programming executive at Fox when Wbtv president Peter Roth — for whom Erwich had previously worked at Stephen J. Cannell Prods. — brought him over to build a cable and reality unit. At the time, Wbtv had a cable hit in The Closer and an unscripted one with ABC’s The Bachelor but no one to spearhead that part of the business for the studio. Over the past six years, Erwich oversaw Warner Horizon’s transformation into a major cable player claiming the top-rated series on two networks – Rizzoli & Isles on TNT and Pretty Little Liars on ABC Family, where the studio also has spinoff series Ravenswood.

We’ve always wondered how many Emmy acceptance speeches go to waste each year. Most winners claim they were “unprepared” because they didn’t “expect to win,” but there are also the winners who take a piece of paper out of their pocket with their acceptance speech outlines. Better safe than sorry, right?
When it comes to this year’s Emmys, we only know of one wasted speech, and that belongs to Chuck Lorre, co-creator and executive producer of The Big Bang Theory.
After the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series went to Modern Family (again), Lorre released a photo of...

Coming off its highest-rated and arguably its strongest season creatively, The Big Bang Theory, which nabbed the Critics Choice TV Award in June, was a prime contender for the best series Emmy on Sunday. It wasn’t to be, with Modern Family repeating as a winner for a fourth time, but you can’t blame co-creator/exec producer Chuck Lorre for going prepared (or maybe he jotted down a few notes just in case after dark horse winner Merritt Wever’s train-wreck onstage appearance). At the end of Big Bang‘s seventh season premiere last night, Lorre posted “The Emmy Speech That Stayed In My Pocket.” It includes reminders to breathe and not cry and lists the people he didn’t want to forget thanking — the TV Academy, the fans, CBS‘ Leslie Moonves and Nina Tassler, Warner Bros’ Peter Roth and PR team Tammy Golihew and Susan Kesser, the cast,...

In January, I chose The Carrie Diaries as one of 2013's Six Best New Shows based on the pilot alone. Thankfully, the subsequent 12 episodes were touching, charming and poignant hours that not only expanded upon a character fans thought they knew inside and out, but allowed executive producer Amy B. Harris to explore themes that are (sadly) as topical now as they were in 1984.
As a result of the aforementioned elements, the second season is now one of my most anticipated fall premieres.
To find out what fans can expect from the next batch of episodes, I caught up with Ep Amy B. Harris to talk about the arrival of Samantha Jones, how it delayed the introduction of Stanford Blatch, where we find Carrie after a summer in the city and what's next in Walt's wonderful coming-out story.

Thanks to Collider, we have a transcription of Mark Pedowitz's discussion with journalists at the CW's TCA panel yesterday. Below, he talks about plans for Amazon and The Flash as well as shedding some light on how what DC and Warner Bros. are doing on television affects the movies. In terms of The Flash, DC has movie plans for that character, as well. Are there any conflicts with you doing a potential spin-off for The Flash, or have they signed off? None that I’m aware of. I’ve spoken to Diane Nelson, who runs DC Comics, as well as Peter Roth, and we’re good to go. Greg [Berlanti] has spoken to them. There are no conflicts, in any way, shape or form. In May, you said that you were still developing the Wonder Woman origin story, Amazon. Does The Flash put that on hold, or is Amazon...

Oh my goodness. I got nominated for another Emmy. Whaaaa?!
I am as shocked as if you told me that Chuck Lorre had been nominated for a Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Emmy. Why am I so shocked? I don't know; I'll ask my therapist. I just am! I was certain I would not be nominated.
Here's how it all shook down. This past week, my boys and I were staying at my mother-in-law's house in San Jose. Yes, I'm divorced, but I can't call her my "ex mother-in-law." It sounds too weird and we love each other and love the boys and it's all so good and fine and it was a great week. So that's that.

The CW's "Arrow" has just four more episodes to go in its first season and on Tuesday, star Stephen Amell returned to one of the origins of his journey -- the very screening room in Burbank, Calif., where he first tested for the role in front of executives at the network.

Diane Haithman contributes to Deadline’s TV coverage. Stephen Amell, star of the CW’s DC Comics-inspired Arrow, was deliberately coy about pending developments for his character Oliver Queen at this evening’s PaleyFest panel. The actor said things are “happening fast and furious now” for Oliver. “We’ve been shooting for just over 7 months. In coming episode 17, things are actually pretty good for Oliver, which means they are about to go really bad.” Producers also confirmed that one minor character will become a regular in Season 2: Emily Bett Rickards as It expert Felicity Smoak. The character’s bright future was ensured by two things: One, the positive Twitter feedback during her first appearance as well the reaction of Warner Bros. TV President Peter Roth who, Andrew Kreisberg reported, called to say: “I love the blond computer girl.” Related: ‘Once Upon A Time’ Teases Peter Pan Season Finale...

After five seasons and 100 episodes, it's time to say goodbye to Fringe, Fox's beloved but low-rated sci-fi TV series. The audience may be small but it's certainly a devoted one.
