The late, legendary filmmaker George A. Romero wrote the screenplay for his feature directorial debut, the 1968 classic Night of the Living Dead, with John A. Russo, who continues to work in the entertainment industry to this day. Russo has written and directed multiple films, and has also written a whole lot of novels. One of those was the “Western horror story” The Night They Came Home, which has just received a film adaptation that Lionsgate will be giving a theatrical and VOD release on January 12th. The Night of the Living Dead (1990) episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? was Written by Emilie Black, Narrated by Adam Walton, Edited by Victoria Verduzco, Produced by Andrew Hatfield and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
Horror remakes are everywhere these days, but back in the late 1980s and early 1990s, there were quite a few less, in fact, they were pretty rare. Of course, some had come and gone, with varying degrees of quality and success. Some of the better ones are well remembered to this day, including The Thing, The Fly, and The Blob. In 1990, another remake came out to a bit less joy. In fact, it was downright hated by many, with Roger Ebert even putting it on his “Most Hated” list, something that was not entirely surprising as he had high regards for some of the George A. Romero originals that came before.

That real-life event is used as the basis for this feature, directed by John A. Russo, Gavin Peretti, and Joseph M. Setele.
The contamination of water from red tide helps convicted cop killer Al David (Rich Sands) somehow escape from custody. Almost forty years ago, writer/director Dan O’Bannon delivered one of the most highly entertaining zombie movies of all time with The Return of the Living Dead (watch it Here)… and in the process, spawned a franchise. There was the goofy comedy of The Return of the Living Dead Part II, the “Romeo and Juliet with zombies” love story Return of the Living Dead ///, and a couple sequels nobody paid much attention to, Return of the Living Dead: Necropolis and Return of the Living Dead: Rave to the Grave. The franchise has been dormant for eighteen years – but it may be revived very soon. It has come to our attention that Muck and Kill Her Goats director Steve Wolsh, who also happens to be the CEO of the company Living Dead Media, is developing a reboot of The Return of the Living Dead.

The 1985 zombie horror comedy The Return of the Living Dead (watch it Here) has some awesome poster art, featuring green-skinned zombies that are “back from the dead and ready to party”. Now the folks at Super7, a company that’s described as being “the premier pop-culture design house and producer of lifestyle-oriented collectibles, toys and apparel”, have taken to social media to reveal that they have turned a couple of those poster zombies into ReAction Figures! These figures will be available for purchase sometime this summer, but for now you can take a look at a picture of them at the bottom of this article.

The 1985 zombie horror comedy The Return of the Living Dead (watch it Here) is one of my all-time favorite movies, and every now and then I like to look up the filming locations of my favorites to see what they look like these days. By watching a Sean Clark video on the locations used to bring The Return of the Living Dead to the screen, I learned that the building that stood in for the Uneeda medical supply warehouse in the movie has been converted into a private residence. So I looked up this address – 698 Moulton Avenue in Los Angeles, California – and learned that the Uneeda-building-turned-private-residence is now on the market! The property is listed on Zillow, with plenty of pictures showing off what the place looks like now that it’s a home with three bedrooms, four bathrooms, and a private pool. And if any die hard fan of...

‘Santa Claws’ – A Sleazy, Cheesy Holiday Oddity from ‘Night of the Living Dead’ Co-Writer John Russo
While George A. Romero was able to parlay the success of Night of the Living Dead into a career in the film industry, co-writer John A. Russo never quite found his footing. Any filmmaker would be lucky to have a movie a fraction as impactful as Night of the Living Dead on their resume, but Russo’s cinematic imprint beyond that was minimal.
In addition to publishing numerous books and producing The Return of the Living Dead and the 1990 remake of Night of the Living Dead, Russo wrote and directed a handful of independent horror movies over the years. Although they failed to reach a wide audience, he generated a few low-budget cult classics, including the 1996 Christmas slasher Santa Claws.
Playing directly to horror fans, Santa Claws strives to rebut the notion that scantily-clad scream queens are nothing more than “brainless bimbos.” Debbie Rochon stars as Raven Quinn, a horror...

Pittsburghs’ most famous movie production returns American horror to its down-home roots, with excellent docu-drama direction and enthusiastic performances. It’s like a Disney film: every seven years a new generation will arrive to debate whether the besieged victims should have fought upstairs, or all retreated to the basement. It’s a 3-disc set, one 4K Uhd and two Blu-rays. Where’s the Bill ‘Chilly Billy’ Cardille theme song?

50 years after the late George A. Romero released his classic 1968 horror film Night of the Living Dead, fans are going to get an official sequel the original production team that worked with Romero on the first film.
According to Bloody-Disgusting, the sequel is being plotted by Living Dead Media. It’s explained that this film is separate from the five Return of the Living Dead films as well as Romero’s Trilogy of the Dead series.
Here’s an explanation for the officially licensed sequel:

Arguably the most influential horror film of all time, George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead was released 50 years ago today, and there are plenty of ways to celebrate its anniversary all month long. In addition to the movie returning to theaters around the world, a special cast and crew reunion screening will take place in Pittsburgh on October 6th, with Judith O'Dea and Russell Streiner among those in attendance:
Press Release: October 1st marks the 50th anniversary of George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead, rated as one of the Top 10 Horror Films of All Time by Rolling Stone and credited with starting the zombie movie genre. All horror and cinema fans should celebrate this milestone as Night of the Living Dead was an independent box office hit that shocked a culture and has been revered by critics, fans, and generations of filmmakers for the last 50 years.

“Upgraded Ghouls”
By Raymond Benson
For a film that’s been in public domain for decades and is available on dozens of different poor-quality DVD labels and free to download from Internet, it’s somewhat surprising that The Criterion Collection would pull out the stops to offer an undoubtedly pricier option to own the movie with this lavish 2-disk extravaganza of gore. (There is a precedent, however—Criterion did the same thing with the out-of-copyright Carnival of Souls.)
Don’t get me wrong… this is a very welcome roll-out. What’s unique about Criterion’s excellent package is that it features a new 4K digital restoration of the original theatrical release (not the previously go-to “30th Anniversary Edition” released years ago and that had been recut a little), and it’s supervised by co-screenwriter John A.
Russo, sound engineer Gary R. Streiner, and producer Russell W.

For many of us, Night of the Living Dead is a film we first experienced on late-night TV – some grizzled old print squashed onto a tiny Crt. Now, 50 years after its miraculous inception, Criterion have brought George A. Romero’s small, scary, seminal movie into the gleaming new world of 4K. Night is a public domain movie, mostly to its detriment – but now we have the essential version.
It’s the simplest of stories: a group of people bickering in a farmhouse while a zombie (sorry, “ghoul”) apocalypse closes in. It seems basic now – clichéd even – but nothing like this had been seen at the time. Audiences (including traumatised children at the matinee showings) were appalled and delighted. 1980s splatter had been born a decade premature,...

The Silence of the Lambs and Night of the Living Dead, two bona fide horror gems, are officially joining the Criterion Collection.
Each film classic will receive a 4K restoration, along with scores of special features, which will be available from February 13th, 2018. Now how’s that for a Valentine’s Day treat?
On a more somber note, news of this re-release arrives at a difficult time for the horror community: Silence of the Lambs director Jonathan Demme passed away back in April, while George A. Romero, the undisputed king of zombies, died in July. Indeed, it was difficult losing two legendary filmmakers in the space of three months, but this posthumous recognition ensures their finest achievements are ushered into the pantheon of great cinema.
Each release will come with different bonus features – Lambs, for instance, includes audio commentary from Demme himself, along with Jodie Foster, Anthony Hopkins and screenwriter...

Close-Up is a feature that spotlights films now playing on Mubi. George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead (1968) is playing October 1 - 31, 2017 in the United States as part of the series Prelude to Halloween. For all of its social and cinematic influence, its current notoriety as the granddaddy of the contemporary zombie movie (and television show and comic book and videogame), George A. Romero’s 1968 debut, Night of the Living Dead, was a remarkably unassuming production. Shot in mid- through late-1967 on a budget of around $114,000, with a cast and crew of unknown actors and amateur locals, the film went on to accumulate an international gross of more than $30 million, setting the standard for a progressively popular horror sub-genre in the process. One now marvels at its systematic structure, its discerning formal design, its clever manipulation of time and space, and its shrewd exploitation of generic conventions.

Undead by John Russo is a book of two halves. The first half is the novelisation of Night of the Living Dead and the second part is the novelisation of the first concept for Return of the Living Dead. This is interesting to read as it’s totally different than the movie it became. This version of Return was more of a follow on from Night of the Living Dead and had a more serious tone.
Night of the Living Dead is an easy read as it’s very familiar to anybody who has seen the movie. Having been attacked by a zombie while visiting a graveyard with her brother Barbara is chased to a farm house where she is joined by others to form a group to defend themselves against the zombie onslaught. Although a good story I did find that the novelisation as with the movie tended to drag on.

According to The Los Angeles Times (via The Hollywood Reporter), iconic writer-director George A. Romero—director of Night Of The Living Dead and the man who effectively created the modern zombie genre—has died. Romero’s family confirmed to The L.A. Romero was born in The Bronx in 1940, but attended Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh and spent a significant chunk of his life in the city. After college, he took on minor director jobs for commercials and short films, but he teamed up with a group of nine friends in the late-’60s to form a production company called Image Ten that managed to raise money for a horror movie that Romero and co-writer John Russo had been developing. Just missing Halloween by a few days, a new 4k digital restoration of the one, the only, the original Night Of The Living Dead will be have its world premiere at the Museum Of Modern Art’s To Save And Project Festival on November 5th.
Night Of The Living Dead has arguably had more home-video releases than all of the Star Wars films combined over the past 50 years, thanks to its public-domain status. The story goes that the original 1968 print of George Romero’s influential shocker was missing a copyright notice, leaving the film open to duplication and public re-release (and whatever the hell John Russo felt like doing with it). That’s why copies could always be found in the .99 bin at any local drug store, most of them looking all messed up. There have also been some very good re-releases of George Romero’s film ...
