You may have noticed posters for the R-rated, stop-motion animated comedy Hell and Back throughout the summer and fall seasons in anticipation of its October release only to find it didn’t come to a theater near you. It was released and took in about $150,000 on the few screens it graced to the chagrin of a ton of hopeful Nick Swardson fans complaining on the movie’s Facebook page about their inability to watch. So this week brings with it a belated VOD Christmas gift for many. To all those who believe themselves one of these brave souls chomping at the bit, please look deep inside yourself and really ask whether Swardson is your God because his being merely a passing chuckle won’t be enough to save you.

"Enjoy your stay in hell!" Freestyle Releasing has debuted a R-rated trailer for the R-rated stop-motion movie Hell & Back, from the animation studio behind "Trip Tank" and "Robot Chicken" (two excellent animated shows). It's a goofy, foul-mouthed trip into the depths of hell, but it looks quite fun I must say. The ensemble voice cast includes Mila Kunis, T.J. Miller, Michael Peña, Susan Sarandon, Jennifer Coolidge, Bob Odenkirk and Danny McBride. I'm not sure if they were riffing jokes that got worked into the animation, or if it was all scripted, but some parts are funny, other moments are not. The animation looks great, and I'm just impressed they actually made a brand new R-rated stop-motion movie. Have fun! Here's the first red band trailer for Tom Gianas & Ross Shuman's Hell & Back, originally from Yahoo: Two best friends set out to rescue their pal after he's accidentally dragged to hell.

Brian O'Shea, CEO of The Exchange, has announced the acquisition of international sales rights of the star-studded animated film "Hell & Back." The film will be released this fall theatrically nationwide and a U.S distributor will be announced separately.
In the vein of adult-oriented hit films like "South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut" and "Team America," "Hell & Back" is an irreverent R-rated comedy starring Mila Kunis ("Black Swan," "That 70's Show"), Danny McBride ("This is the End," "Pineapple Express"), T.J. Miller ("How to Train Your Dragon," "Cloverfield") Bob Odenkirk (SNL, "The Spectacular Now"), Susan Sarandon ("Thelam & Louise," "Dead Man Walking"), Jennifer Coolidge ("American Pie," "A Cindnrella Story"), Rob Riggle ("21 Jump Street," "The Hangover") and) directed by Tom Gianas (SNL) and Ross Shuman ("Robot Chicken"), produced by Corey Campodonico ("Robot Chicken"), Alexander Bulkey ("Robot Chicken") and Eric Blyler ("Robot Chicken").
Captured in high quality Stop-Motion, "Hell & Back" follows two best pals who must rescue their friend after he's accidentally dragged to hell. The Exchange will introduce and screen the title at the 2015 Cannes Film Market to international buyers.
"'Hell & Back' is funny, irreverent, and has global appeal." O'Shea went on to say "the film has an incredible production value, a very original story and lots of physical comedy. This makes it easy to translate into non-English markets."
The Exchange is a leading international sales and finance company committed to creating strong relationships between filmmakers, film financers and distributors through the exchange of product, information and commerce. Created by veteran sales executive Brian O'Shea, the company specializes in high quality, commercial films that appeal to North American audiences and the ever-evolving global film market.

With the recent release of House of Cards and Hemlock Grove, Netflix has established serious interest in the original programming market. Amazon, another major player in online streaming services with Prime Instant Video, has made the first major step to follow suit. Late last week, 16 pilots were made available for free streaming on Amazon – 8 comedies and 6 children’s series. Most buzz has surrounded the pilot for Zombieland, a series written by the creators of the 2009 film of the same name. But some of the other pilots feature experienced production and acting credits (notably John Goodman in Alpha House and Jeffrey Tambor in Onion News Empire). Amazon is letting viewers fill out mini-surveys for each pilot as a means of collecting feedback to help decide whether or not a series gets picked up for a full season. Sound On Sight is here to offer some feedback for the comedy pilots:

Because animated comedy Hell & Back didn’t already boast a bulging cast list, directors Tom Gianas and Ross Shuman have added yet another name to the roster. Susan Sarandon has climbed aboard, and she’ll be voicing an angel named Barb.Hell & Back finds best mates Remy (Nick Swardson) and Augie (TJ Miller) journeying into the Inferno to rescue a mate who has accidentally been dragged down there. The voice cast includes (very deep breath) Mila Kunis, who signed on in March, Jennifer Coolidge, Rob Riggle, Danny McBride, Bob Odenkirk, Kerri Kenney, Michael Pena, David Koechner, JB Smoove, Brian Posehn, Greg Proops, Seth Morris and Jay Johnston, among others. Suffice to say, it’ll be distinctly R-rated, no-holds-barred comedy. With a script by Robot Chicken veterans Zeb Wells and Hugh Sterbakov, it’s going through the stop-motions right now and is set for release… Well, it hasn’t locked that particular detail in just yet,...

With so much of Us animation aimed at children in the past, is it possible, Ryan wonders, that attitudes are gradually changing…?
Imagine if all movies were aimed exclusively at kids. There’d be no Godfather, no Raging Bull, and certainly no Tyrannosaur or Midnight In Paris. Instead, cinema listings would be full of movies like Journey 2, Hop or Harry Potter. While there’s nothing wrong with children’s films, an alternate universe entirely filled with them is almost too disturbing to think about.
And yet, in this plane of reality, American animated movies have for years been almost exclusively made for audiences aged 12 or under. Yet, in the rest of the world, animated films aimed at adults aren’t uncommon. Ali Forman’s autobiographical film about the Lebanon War, Waltz With Bashir, was moving, disturbing and often poetic – and was given an 18 rating in the UK.

The beautiful Mila Kunis is set to star in an interesting R-rated stop-motion animated comedy called Hell and Back. The story follows a couple of friends who have to rescue another friend that was accidentally dragged down to hell.
Deadline reports that Kunis will play a "female demon whose ability to navigate the underworld makes her the toughest rogue demon in Hell. Her independent streak comes from the fact she’s half human. She was sired by the Orpheus of myth when he traveled down the River Styx, nailing everything in sight." Sounds like a fun and crazy adventure.
Kunis will join Nick Swardson, Tj Miller, Rob Riggle, Brian Posehn, and Kumail Najiani, who were all previously cast. Tommy Gianas and Ross Shuman are directing the film.
Kunis just finished shooting Sam Rami's Oz: The Great and Powerful for Disney as well as the Seth MacFarlane-directed comedy Ted for Universal.

Mila Kunis has gone to the bargain bin with "Friends With Benefits," scary ballet school for "Black Swan," and back to a time when feathered hair was standard for "That '70s Show," but her latest role really sounds like hell.
Deadline reports that the actress will star opposite comedians Rob Riggle, Nick Swardson, Brian Posehn and Kumail Nanjiani in the animated film "Hell & Back."
The movie, which will be shot in stop-motion style, tells the story of two buddies who attempt to rescue a friend who mistakenly winds up in hell. Kunis will play Orpheus' half-human lady demon daughter, who knows a thing or two about getting by in the underworld.
"Human Giant" writer/director Tom Gianas wrote and will co-direct the movie with Ross Shuman, who has worked with Kunis in the past during his stint on Cartoon Network's "Robot Chicken."
Kunis will be returning to the big screen in 2012 in C.

Having already accumulated quite a lengthy animation resume through countless episodes of Family Guy, Mila Kunis‘ latest job can’t be too much of a creative stretch. The latest addition to her slate is The Sky is Everywhere, an adaptation of Jandy Nelson's Ya romance of the same title. The plot follows Lennie, an introverted band geek who's used to being overshadowed by her much more outgoing older sister Bailey. When Bailey suddenly dies, however, Lennie struggles to cope and soon finds herself torn between two guys: her dead sister's boyfriend Toby and a charismatic, musically gifted new boy named Joe. The teen love triangle is nothing new, but the book's received pretty good reviews; if...

We were excited to hear about Nick Swardson and T.J. Miller headlining "Hell & Back," the new feature-length piece of stop-motion insanity from ShadowMachine, the studio behind "Moral Orel" and "Robot Chicken."
Now, according to Variety, a trio of brilliant character actors are taking an adult swim to this animated ode to eternal damnation. Descending into the inferno are Rob Riggle, Brian Posehn and Kumail Nanjiani, all of whom are staples of the comedy world.
Riggle is a "Daily Show"/"SNL" vet who's made showy appearances in things like "Step Brothers," "The Other Guys" and, most famously, as the Taser-happy Las Vegas police officer in "The Hangover." He'll play "a 20-year old who's starting to grow up, much to the chagrin of his friends Augie and Remy."
Voicing Sal the Demon, some kind of working stiff in Hell, is Nanjiani, a Pakistani stand-up whose appearances on Letterman, Fallon, Conan, and "The Colbert Report...

Work is hell, unless it’s providing voices for a fun animated feature, and it was just announced that comedic actors Rob Riggle, Brian Posehn, and Kumail Nanjiani have signed on to star in the stop-motion animated flick Hell and Back. The three funny men join current cast members T.J. Miller and Nick Swardson, both of whom have done animated work in the past — Miller for, among others, How To Train Your Dragon, and Swardson for Disney’s Bolt.
Written and directed by Tom Gianas and Ross Shuman, the story revolves around two guys who must rescue their friend after he’s dragged into hell. Though specific details on the plot are scant, Variety reports that Riggle will voice a 20-year-old who’s easing into adulthood, to the disappointment of his pals Augie and Remy.

Weird things can happen purely by accident. You know what we're talking about... pick up a book, read aloud, and boom! plague of locusts. Yeah, that can suck, but you know what sucks more? Accidentally getting dragged to hell.
According to Variety, Rob Riggle, Brian Posehn, and Kumail Nanjiani have joined the cast of the stop-motion animation production Hell & Back starring T.J. Miller and Nick Swardson.
Tom Gianas and Ross Shuman will helm.
The story revolves around two best friends who must rescue their buddy when he's accidentally dragged to hell. Riggle will play a 20-year-old who's starting to grow up, much to the chagrin of his friends Augie and Remy. Posehn will portray an aging heavy-metal fan stuck in the '80s, and Nanjiani will play Sal the Demon, an employee of hell.

Nick Swardson (30 Minutes of Less) and Tj Miller (Yogi Bear) have been cast in an upcoming R-rated stop-motion animated comedy called Hell & Back. According to Deadline the story is "about two best friends who must rescue their pal when he is accidentally dragged to hell."
I think it's safe to say we've all been dragged down to hell at some point in our lives, and there were friends who came to the rescue. The film is set to be directed by Tommy Gianas (Tenacious D) and Ross Shuman and the production company, ShadowMachine, is going to start shooting the project in January.
For those of you not familiar with ShadowMachine, it's the company has been creating episodes of Robot Chicken and Morel Orel on Adult Swim.
Both Swardson and Tj Miller have been involved with some pretty silly and stupid comedies, but they have unique voices that will work nicely for a animated movie.

Hell, apparently, needs stand-up comics.
Nick Swardson and T.J. Miller are going to need all the laughs they can muster as they prepare to go to "Hell & Back," according to Deadline.
"Hell & Back" is an R-rated stop-motion animated film in which two best friends have to rescue their pal after he's accidentally dragged to hell (say hello to Alison Lohman when you get there, fellas!). The film is being produced by ShadowMachine, the production company that's been ramping up its feature film activity upon its success with both "Robot Chicken" and "Moral Orel" on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim.
Swardson and Miller, both stand-up comics, have enjoyed some recent success in the movie business. Swardson was seen last summer as Danny McBride's dim-witted partner in crime in "30 Minutes or Less" and currently plays a role in Adam Sandler's "Jack and Jill." Miller (who will always be the hapless...
