This What We Do in The Shadows review contains spoilers.
What We Do in the Shadows Season 4 Episode 8
After straying from the core mockumentary premise of the series, What We Do in the Shadows’ season 4 episode 8, “Go Flip Yourself,” doubles down on it as the worlds of vampire reality TV and human home improvement collide. This union has been a long time coming, as Laszlo (Matt Berry) is quite the fan of flipping shows, and the titular fixer-upper program is his long-time obsession. He has also proven himself to be a sucker for general contractors, and not always in a good, vampire, way.
Toby (Jason Sklar) and Bran Daltry (Randy Sklar) have seen the “worst of the worst” in home renovations, and the vampires’ “Mixed Up Mansion” on Staten Island promises to be their “toughest yet.” This isn’t just a sales ploy to upsell the “Superfan!” Laszlo Cravensworth. He’s seen every episode,...

Quentin Tarantino celebrated the art of screenwriting during his induction into the Final Draft Hall of Fame Tuesday night at the Paramount Theatre in Hollywood.
The clearly delighted Tarantino, who scored Oscar nominations for writing, directing and producing “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” revealed filmmaker Walter Hill was his inspiration to become a screenwriter.
“Walter was one of my biggest heroes growing up,” he said. “I had only read two scripts and they were so effing dry. But when I read ‘Hard Times,’ it wasn’t just description. It wasn’t just a blue print for how to do the movie. I was supposed to make the movie in my mind. When the script was over and I put it down, I saw the movie.”
Tarantino went on to explain that he spent the next decade working on unfinished scripts, such as a knock-off of “Smokey and the Bandit...

Seth Rogan, known for acting in Knocked Up, Pineapple Express, and 50/50, has actually been producing tons of projects behind the scenes over the years, including the films listed, as well as many others. His most recent producing credits have been for some fan favorite series, such as Preacher and The Boys. And co-producing alongside him on all of these projects has been Evan Goldberg. The guys have a good thing going, as their projects are pretty successful. And now they have another iron in the fire.
One of the many projects in their future is a comedy series for CBS called UNprofessionals, which THR describes as follows:
The comedy will take a behind-the-scenes look at a group of the least important people working at one of the world’s most important places: the United Nations.
Jay Chandrasekhar is set to direct, with Andy Schwartz (Scrubs) and comedians Jason and Randy Sklar writing.

CBS is developing a comedy series set in the typically not so hilarious location of the United Nations.
“Unprofessionals,” which has Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg as executive producers, is a single camera comedy hailing from Lionsgate Television. The series offers a behind the scenes look at a group of the least important people working at one of the world’s most important places in the world.
Andy Schwartz, whose writing credits include “Scrubs” and “Mighty Med,” and Randy Sklar and Jason Sklar are all writers and executive producers on the prospective series. Jay Chandrasekhar, who has previously helmed episodes of “Arrested Development” and “New Girl,” will direct and executive produce.
Alongside Rogen and Goldberg in the non-writing executive producers column are James Weaver, and Alex McAtee of Point Grey TV. Schwartz and the Sklars developed the project alongside Point Grey’s vice president and head of television Loreli Alanis.

Comedy comes in all shapes and sizes and some can be...a little shitty? Well at least when we're referencing the Sklar Brothers' new documentary Poop Talk. Cinelinx had the change to speak to the brothers about their upcoming film. The documentary revolves around exactly that: poop. Randy and Jason Sklar interviewed over 50 comedians and comedic actors about the topic, including themselves. Those familiar with the Sklar brothers comedy may be curious as to why they decided to do a fecal-centric documentary because they're not known for their blue (or should we say brown?) humor. Their pal, writer/director of the film, Aaron N. Feldman, proposed the idea to them and they had to think about it. “We had our own reservations,” explained Randy Sklar, “we thought about it then went back to him and said here's the movie we want to make – smart, honest discussion with funny friends...mixed...

On February 15, 2014, Richard Simmons was scheduled to teach an aerobics class at his gym, Slimmons, in Beverly Hills, California, but he never showed up.
It's now been over three years since the 68-year-old fitness guru has been seen, and while Et spoke to him last March over the phone, he's rarely been heard from since retreating from the public eye.
Earlier this year, former Daily Show producer Dan Taberski, who considers himself a friend of Simmons, started the weekly podcast Missing Richard Simmons to investigate the whereabouts of the Sweatin' to the Oldies star. Each week, Taberski interviews an array of people who knew Simmons -- from a Hollywood homes tour guide to Simmons' purported "second mother" to his own brother -- in hopes of speaking with the once-outgoing celebrity and thus getting a better understanding as to why he stepped out of the spotlight in the first place.

'Teacher of the Year' movie with Keegan-Michael Key. 'Teacher of the Year' movie: Smart and funny socially conscious comedy Teacher of the Year manages to pull off one of the more difficult balancing acts in filmmaking: it actually is smart while still being funny. Teacher of the Year is smart about education, both as a vocation and as an industry; and it's both character and dialogue funny, leaning heavily on the free-agent talents of Keegan-Michael Key, half of the comedy duo, Key and Peele. Of late, Key has been a valuable asset in a number of comedies looking for a boost, including a stand-out performance in Pitch Perfect 2, currently in theaters. In Teacher of the Year, his name is Principal Douche – though he insists on the french pronunciation. You can imagine the jokes. Matt Letscher as 'Teacher of the Year' Also funny is lead Matt Letscher (Her) as Mitch,...

Randy and Jason Sklar have hosted several different web series over the years. Now, the identical twins known for their TV show Cheap Seats and their podcast Sklarboro Country have released the first episode of You’re Doing It Wrong, a web series created in association with PBS Digital Studios.
In You’re Doing It Wrong, Randy and Jason aim to set viewers straight about common tasks that are often performed inefficiently. In the first episode, for example, the twins provide a series of life hacks related to the storage of fruit: Tomatoes should not be kept in the fridge, basil should rest in a bowl of water, and fruits will go bad faster if left to ripen next to one another.
This education package is backed up with the sort of quick cuts, humorous non-sequiturs, and fast-paced delivery that have defined many of Pbsds’ most successful web series. When discussing tomatoes,...

PBS Digital Studios hopes to correct some of your incorrect behaviors, even if they are seemingly insignificant. The network partnered with production house Kids at Play to develop the life-hacking, educational series You’re Doing it Wrong.
The 20-episodes of the You’re Doing it Wrong series will be hosted by comedians and brothers Randy and Jason Sklar. The duo will use facts, history, and humor to explain how everyday situations, such as peeling a hard-boiled egg or applying sunscreen, can often be improved or done more efficiently in a different manner. Kids at Play’s Head of Development, Mark Marraccini, originally came up with the idea for You’re Doing It Wrong when someone told him he shouldn’t sweep up broken glass, but should instead use a piece of bread to snatch up the last tiny pieces.
The Sklar Brothers will write the show alongside Peter Degler and Dan Van Kirk.

New this week On Monday, we launched Watch This, a new daily feature recommending alternative films for a new theme every week. This week, we picked vampire-film alternatives to Twilight, which included everything from the newly released Vamps to George Romero’s Martin. They’re all great for those who don’t want to spend any more time with Bella and Edward. Next week’s theme: Wrong-man films in honor of Hitchcock. We also launched Bestcast, a new biweekly feature where podcasters discuss the three most memorable episodes of their podcast. Randy Sklar kicks it off with Sklarbro Country. Don ...

South By Southwest (SXSW) has officially announced the lineup for SXSW Comedy, which will take place from March 10 - 17 in Austin, Texas. The festival's comedy programming has grown considerably since last year, with showcases, live podcast tapings and interactive shows stretching continuously throughout SXSW for the first time. The festival has announced 62 comedians scheduled to appear, nearly doubling last year's roster of performers.
Although SXSW is known for its music, film, and more recently, interactive portions of the festival, the comedy programming looks designed to delight both devoted comedy fans as well as casual observers. In fact, five of the comedians who landed on HuffPost Comedy's favorite comedy albums of 2011 list will be performing at the festival.
Part of the fun of SXSW Comedy is not knowing which performers will show up at which shows, although a full list of confirmed comedians has been released (and can be found in...

I was going to write a longer introduction but my hand hurts so I'm going to go hunt down my nearly empty Advil bottle instead. Sorry. Here's your Tuesday night TV:
8:00pm: "The Biggest Loser" on NBC
"I, Predator" on Animal Planet. Series premiere.
"Mysteries at the Museum" on Travel. The commercials make this look interesting, but I remain skeptical. Anyone seen it and have an evaluation? And I am the kind of person who likes museums but hates "The DaVinci Code".
"NCIS" on CBS
"No Ordinary Family" on ABC
"Nova: Deadliest Earthquakes" on PBS
9:00pm: "Cupcake Wars" on Food Network
"Dirty Jobs" on Discovery
"Frontline: Battle for Haiti" on PBS
"Millionaire Matchmaker" on Bravo. Fourth season finale.
"Mysteries at the Museum" on Travel. First season finale.
"NCIS: Los Angeles" on CBS
"Ramsay's Best Restaurant" on Bbca
"V" on ABC. Really? This survived? Huh, well I guess that's good news for Morena Baccarin.

Sony's Crackle announced today the premiere of Held Up, a new original comedy web series written and executive produced by Randy Sklar and Jason Sklar and directed by Paul Blart: Mall Cop director Steve Carr. Held Up tells the story of a bored bank teller's life-changing experience when two teams of idiot bank robbers—disguised as Rocky I, Rocky II, Batman, and Robin, hold up his branch. As the series proceeds, the hostages fall victim to a comedic version of the Stockholm Syndrome and begin sympathizing with their dim-witted captors. The Webventures of Justin & Alden might have one of the deepest casts of web series notables that we’ve seen to date. Fitting, since the new five-episode branded comedy web series from Cjp Digital Media and lead sponsor Trident Layers (disclosure: Trident is also a Streamy Awards sponsor) is all about two would-be internet-famos set to find web video glory by making “the greatest Web series Web show that’s ever been on the Web computer.” Justin Tyler and Alden Ford, both regulars at sketch comedy theater Ucb in New York, star as the hapless titular duo in this Bill and Ted’s-style (yes, there’s even some time travel) road trip. The destination of this road trip is the Streamy Awards in Los Angeles in hopes of finding the perfect web star. Guests of this year’s Streamys may have noticed these two crashing the red carpet and even...

The nominees for the 2010 Streamys were announced today. The Streamys celebrate online television programming and this year they have a fantastic line up of nominees. Last year was the Streamys debut year and the winners included high profile shows such as Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog and the exceptional Battlestar Galactica web series The Face of the Enemy.
This year there is even more competition with some really interesting content now being released on the web rather than through more traditional media routes. Two of my favourites from this year’s nominee list are the excellent Interview Project which is presented by davidlynch.com and the slightly flawed but thoroughly enjoyable Angel of Death, created by Ed Brubaker and starring Zoe Bell, which also received a DVD release last year.
The awards ceremony takes place on April 11th 2010 and the full list of nominees is listed below with handy links...

Streamy-winning web series Back on Topps returns for its second season this week with twin brothers Jason and Randy Sklar back as the bungling heads of Topps baseball card company, Leyland and Leif Topps. Created by the Sklar brothers and produced by Michael Eisner's web studio Vuguru, the return of this show is just the second of the company's web series, counting Prom Queen, to get a second season. At the end of last season a Christian dating service, "Cross My Heart" (wasn't this the name of the band in Jesus People?) rented space at the Topps offices, and now further economic pressures force cutbacks at the company. That means the brothers need to come up with something big to win back over the office, with the usual help (cameos) from Mlb and NBA stars. Web series regular Jason Nash (The Shaman) is back as Stalker Guy and Brian Huskey...

Happy Thanksgiving Week everyone! Fall is in full effect (even here in L.A., it has dropped below 70), so now is a good time to snuggle in and watch some web tv, or find a quick escape from family during the holiday. We've picked some classics for you to get you through the holiday week. ["(Layers)"] The intensely self-referential web series that's a mock documentary of the making of a reality show about a Hollywood agent that represents agents, ["(Layers)"] takes "meta" to the extreme. Starring Cavemen's Nick Kroll and Back on Topps' Jason and Randy Sklar and featuring Roommating's Erin Gibson and the gang from FX's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, this series has a lot going on beneath, above, and in-between the surface.
