There is no doubt Jonathan Majors’ star is shining brighter this year thanks to his villainous turns in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Creed III. On top of that, he’s gaining incredible buzz for his performance in the upcoming bodybuilding drama Magazine Dreams. Now, the former Lovecraft Country star is set to produce and star in a film titled Da Understudy. It is also reported that the project may even see a reunion with Majors and his Da 5 Bloods director, Spike Lee.
According to Deadline, “Da Understudy tells the story of life imitating art when the understudy of a Broadway production finds a role he’s willing to kill for.” The film will be made under Westbrook Studios and Amazon Studios. Majors is also set to produce the film under his production company, Tall Street Productions. Amazon Studios landed the script on spec in competition with other studios.

HollywoodNews.com: I don’t know how much Men In Black 3 actually cost. I don’t know the details of the behind-the-scenes turmoil that shut the film down for a period so the filmmakers could frantically rewrite the screenplay. I don’t know what got removed and what got added or changed along the way. But the highest compliment that I can pay this third installment in the series is that none of the backstage drama shows. The story makes sense, there are few real plot holes, and the actors exude confidence and charm in a screenplay that balances trailer-friendly set pieces and gags with genuine storytelling and character growth.
The world may not have needed another Men In Black picture, but director Barry Sonnenfeld and writers Etan Cohen, David Koepp, Jeff Nathanson, and Michael Soccio have crafted a shockingly good one, arguably the best in the series. This...

Although it's safe to assume that Earth still needs protecting from alien scum, after Men in Black 2 no one had been particularly eager to find out what else they had been up to. However, with Sony in desperate need of another summer blockbuster, we all knew it was only a matter of time before a third installment would be willed into existence. While strange for a Men in Black film to open with something other than a crashing spaceship, I’ll admit to being ecstatic for the alternative. Having the sexy Nicole Scherzinger lead us into the maximum-security prison housing one of the universe’s most notorious criminals definitely didn’t hurt either. What I really enjoyed about the pre-credit sequence to Men in Black III, however, was that our introduction to Bogladite destroyer, Boris the Animal (Jemaine Clement), seemed to get the series back on track as far as giving a serious adversary to rally against. Retaining a darkly humorous edge much like Vincent D’Onofrio‘s incomparable Edgar from the first, all memory of the campy antagonists from the woeful sequel were washed away. Clement’s deep, villainous Bowie-esque growl definitely set the stage for a fight worth caring about as far as sci-fi action comedies go.

Honestly, if I was forced to judge Summer 2012 at first glance, I would say it was pretty weak. Compared to 2011 and 2010, there's just not as many movies to look forward to. While it seems easy to write off this Summer as a dud, I have three reasons why it might actually be awesome; The Dark Knight Rises, The Avengers, and Prometheus. Honestly, that's all Summer 2012 needs in order to be one for the history books. Even then, there's still more than enough films to warrant your attention this summer. To help you sort through them all, we've once again compiled all the most interesting films of the season into four easy to read, informative guides. For the next four days, we'll take you on a journey through the best cinema has to offer in Summer 2012. Welcome to our Summer 2012 Movie Guide! Here's Part One, focusing entirely on the month of May.

Following up on the initial teaser trailer that was released back in December, the full theatrical trailer for Men in Black 3 has arrived online this week over at Yahoo!. Now that the time travel element has been established and the Josh Brolin has been revealed as a young Agent K, we can get down to the business of showcasing the meat of the movie: comedy, action and special effects. Unfortunately, the one area that seems the weakest thus far is also probably the most important (the comedy). The screenplay for Men in Black 3 is credited to David Koepp (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Ghost Town), Jeff Nathanson (Rush Hour 3, Tower Heist), and Michael Soccio (The King of Queens), which sounds questionable enough on its own, but it also apparently started production before the script was even finished with rewrites happening on the fly. If you've been following the production of "Men In Black III" to any small degree, you'll know it has been somewhat of a debacle. Despite it being a decade since the last outing for Agent J and Agent K in a vastly inferior sequel to the original movie, it was decided that a third outing would be a good idea. We think the studio logic here is that if you put Will Smith in it, they will come. The saga of the development of the film is a long one, but here's the condensed version:
Etan Cohen ("Tropic Thunder") was hired to write the original script, and then David Koepp ("Spider-Man") was brought in to touch it up, only for a Jeff Nathanson ("Catch Me If You Can") to be brought in during a planned break in filming to finish the screenplay (which eventually led to an even longer delay...

Leading up to the release of the first trailer for Men in Black III, plot details have been pretty thin. While it was known that the third installment would see Agent J (Will Smith) go back in time to meet the younger version of Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) — played by Jsh Brolin — little else is known. There's good reason for the secrecy: the script was only a third written when it went into production last December. As Jones admitted in February — prior to the sequel resuming production in March after a two-month hiatus allowed for further rewrites — "there are vast pieces of the script yet unwritten."
Tropic Thunder screenwriter Etan Cohen wrote the initial draft, or, shall we say, initial first thrid of a script, while David Koepp (Jurassic Park), Jeff Nathanson (Rush Hour 3) and Michael Soccio (TV's The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) have all had a turn with the script since,...

Initially plagued by delays and the need for multiple re-writes — Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder) wrote the initial script, with David Koepp (Jurassic Park), Jeff Nathanson (Rush Hour 3) and Michael Soccio (TV's The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) providing successive drafts — director Barry Sonnenfeld's Men in Black III (MIB3) managed to wrap principal photography only one month later than initially planned. However, it's now going on six months since the movie entered post-production and MIB3 has virtually dropped off of the entertainment news radar. In fact, until a set of teaser posters showed up in theaters over the weekend, we pretty much forgot that the movie was still in the pipeline.
The cryptic new posters have yet to be released online, but thankfully Collider managed to snap a picture of the poster featuring Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones), and FirstShowing shot the poster featuring Agent J (Will Smith) and posted them online.

The veteran television actor will take over the role previously held by Baldwin. Reports of script problems continue to trickle in on the project as well. Rasche, most recently seen in the TV series Rubicon and Ugly Betty but probably best known for the lead role in the cult series Sledgehammer, will take over as Agent X for Men in Black 3D. The role was originally planned for Alec Baldwin (30 Rock) who left to film the rock musical Rock of Ages. Rasche has also signed on to join HBO's comedy series Bored to Death as Bernard Morse, a health nut with an affinity for Scottish Terriers, and who made his fortune in Silicon Valley with Philip K. Dick-like innovations. In other Mib news, uncredited screenwriter Mike Soccio has been brought on by Will Smith to work on the scipt. The...

Development on Men In Black 3D has been falling apart since production was stalled during the holidays. Since then, production was postponed again (here), and David Koepp was hired to help fix the script (here). Production has apparently resumed on schedule, but sources are telling The Hollywood Reporter that Screenwriter Mike Soccio (Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) was also brought in to help out on the script.
Soccio was apparently only hired “for minor on-set punch-up work during our initial production period”, but his attachment was kept quiet, and it seems the other writers weren’t aware of his involvement with the script. Soccio “is a long-time and well-known collaborator on Will’s projects”, and has written several episodes of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, which starred Will Smith, and The Karate Kid remake.
Men In Black 3D is slated to open in May of 2012.

If the name of screenwriter Mike Soccio doesn’t ring a bell, don’t worry; even his co-workers aren’t clear on who he is. Apparently after Will Smith rejected the MiB III script this fall, Soccio was put to work punching up his part. While other comic actors often have individual writers work other lines, what makes Will Smith’s screenwriter a mystery is how the film’s other writers allegedly had no idea he was working alongside them. “I’ve never heard of it being kept sort of quiet,” one agent commented on the situation. So basically it’s as if your boss hired an assistant, but set up his workstation in the supply closet and never told anyone else he was there. The guy might be doing good work, but things are going to get awkward if you run into each other at the water cooler.

Talk about jumping the gun aka the suits bring money hungry! Sony fired up production with only a third of the Men In Black III script completed and since then they have had several rewrrites and even Tommy Lee Jones was quoted as saying he didn't have a clue what was going on.
Alec Baldwin got pissed and left the set and producer Walter Parkes and director Barry Sonnenfeld are fussing about seomthing (probably the script). Today marks another new entry for the confused Mibiii camp as Will Smith's personall writer Mike Soccio, has been brought on baord to tweek up the script. Soccio joins Ethan Cohen, Jeff Nathanson and David Koepp who all have had their fun with the story.
So, Will Smith brings in a loyal friend who he's been friends with and worked with on and off since his Fresh Prince days, which means he's hopefully bringing the funny for Mibiii.

Screenwriter Mike Soccio has been hired to perform re-writes on the upcoming "Men in Black III" at Sony Pictures says The Hollywood Reporter.
The hiring is odd as the troubled production is in dire need of a strong writer to fix various troublesome issues, yet Soccio has no significant movie credits.
Soccio is said to have been working on the project for months, though other writers have come and gone since then and are apparently unfamiliar with Soccio.
Sources indicate Soccio has worked on many of Smith's films, including last year's "The Karate Kid" remake which Smith produced.
Sony however says Soccio "was hired for minor on-set punch-up work during our initial production period" while then scribe Etan Cohen was not on location.

Hippie Hippie Shake
Opens: 2010
Cast: Cillian Murphy, Sienna Miller, Max Minghella, Emma Booth, Lee Ingleby
Director: Beeban Kidron
Summary: Follows the love story of Oz editor Richard Neville and Louise Ferrier. Neville and his cohorts launch the London edition of Oz amidst the 1960s counterculture and are subsequently put on trial for distributing a sexually explicit issue.
Analysis: One of the most troubled productions in Working Title's history, 'Hippie' began development back in 1998 but failed to get beyond script stage both in 1999 and in 2002 when "Elizabeth" helmer Shekhar Kapur was attached to direct. Filming finally got underway late 2007 with director Beeban Kidron in charge and shooting seemed to proceed without issue aside from feminist author Germaine Greer being vehemently unhappy about being depicted on film.
Actually the film scored quite a bit of free press for a skinny dipping scene where full-frontal shots of actress Sienna Miller shooting the sequence...
