Few TV shows have had the seismic impact of The X-Files – with its swirling mysteries, long-running conspiracies, and shocking monster-of-the-week episodes. Factor in the legendary roles of Mulder and Scully (the incredible David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson) and you have the recipe for a multiple-decade-spanning phenomenon, that began on the small screen, moved to the big one (twice), and was revived for two additional series just when fans thought it was all over. Packed with alien encounters, supernatural shenanigans, and moments of very human horror, the show – spawned by Chris Carter – brought audiences into a world where you never quite knew what the next episode would bring.
30 years later, the impact of The X-Files hasn’t been diluted – and throughout its reign on big screens and small, Empire spoke to several of its key voices. Take a rifle through the X-Files Interview Archive…

With all due respect to the vampire western Near Dark and the coolness of The Lost Boys, my favorite ’80s vampire flick is pretty easily Fright Night (watch it Here). It has a way about it that is just unmatched. It’s able to mix the ’80s setting, think Jerry in the club hypnotizing Amy, with both a modern and classic feel. Its almost the evolutionary step of what Hammer films would have turned into had they not folded. Its certainly beloved enough with it’s own documentary and a sequel, remake, and sequel to that remake. That’s what I wanted to talk about today. While Near Dark got no sequel, probably for the best, and The Lost Boys got multiple awful sequels,...

Video game movies typically get a bad rap, as they try to strike a balance between exploring their narratives and catering to the fans of a given franchise. The move from one medium to the next can be a challenging one, but more recent additions to the sub-genre found success with titles such as Pokémon Detective Pikachu. There are more video game movies hitting the silver screen in recent years, so here’s a look at pre-2000s flicks.

We have a special episode of The Arrow in the Head Show for you today, one in which hosts John “The Arrow” Fallon and Lance Vlcek take a look at a particularly awesome scene from director James Cameron’s 1984 classic The Terminator (watch it Here). The scene they’re discussing is the Tech Noir club scene – and to find out what they had to say about it, check out the video embedded above!
The screenplay for The Terminator is credited to Cameron and producer Gale Anne Hurd, although Cameron has said that, while Hurd did suggest edits to the script, she didn’t actually do any writing on the film. The film has the following synopsis: Disguised as a human, a cyborg assassin known as a Terminator travels from 2029 to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor. Sent to protect Sarah is Kyle Reese, who divulges the coming of Skynet, an artificial intelligence...

Sylvester Stallone has had a few franchises over the years – Rocky, Rambo, The Expendables – but he also has a film that should have been a franchise starter, but never received any of the sequels it deserved. That’s the 1986 classic Cobra (watch it Here), which also happens to be the movie The Arrow in the Head Show hosts John “The Arrow” Fallon and Lance Vlcek are talking about in the new episode of the series. To find out what they had to say about Cobra, check out the video embedded above!

Cosmatos from a screenplay by Sylvester Stallone (which was apparently loosely based on the novel Fair Game by Paula Gosling), Cobra has the following synopsis: Los Angeles policeman Lt. We are big fans of the 1986 Sylvester Stallone action slasher Cobra (watch it at This Link) here on JoBlo and Arrow in the Head, so it’s cool to see that a sixth scale figure of Stallone’s Cobra character Marion Cobretti is now available for pre-order through Sly Stallone Shop. This officially licensed figure, endorsed by Stallone himself, looks awesome… and it should, considering it’s going for the price of 290! An image of the figure can be seen at the bottom of this article, and more can be seen at the Sly Stallone Shop link.
The figure, which stands approximately 12 inches tall, has the following features: – Ultra-realistic head sculpt (Hand painted) – Over 28 Points of articulation (Approx 30 cm / 12 Inches) – 6 posable gloved hands – Black Jacket – Black shirt – Jeans – Boots – Weapon holster – Colt Gold Cup National Match (Custom) – Machinegun Jatimatic Smg with 4 magazines and laser optic – Two hand grenades – Police badge...

The Mortal Kombat reboot released a trailer that carries out an action-packed assault on the senses while showing clear respect to the iconic ultraviolent video game franchise in R-rated splendor for HBO Max. Yet—as all good trailers tend to do—it’s also stoking its share of curiosity, notably about the film’s villain dynamic. While Chin Han’s Shang Tsung is the clear big bad, the trailer briefly shows what appears to be the image of an even bigger bad, Shao Kahn.
While one might initially dismiss the notion of Shao Kahn—the hulking, helmeted Emperor of Outworld and signature villain of the overall franchise—being in the reboot as not a big deal, such a notion would be a reversal from Mortal Kombat’s last official synopsis, which refers to Shang Tsung as “Outworld’s Emperor Shang Tsung.” It’s a potent line that represents a major alteration from the game continuity,...

Brian Thompson is probably one of the most recognized faces in the movies since his portrayal of villains throughout the years has been iconic. He appears so over the top and his characters are so out of control that it’s either funny as hell or just downright creepy. That kind of quality is what’s made him so great though since he’s been the big, savage-looking individual that audience members believe will be taken down several notches and be given the kind of death that so many bad guys in the movies and on TV deserve. His career has taken on

The hunt for the legendary Bigfoot continues to inspire filmmakers and storytellers and we’ve got a trailer for a new film for you to check out today called Hoax.
The film follows a team who travels “deep into the wilderness after a group of young campers are viciously murdered and linked to Bigfoot. The highly specialized crew search for evidence and fight to survive the powerful beast. If they work together they may live to prove the existence of bigfoot, but what they discover may be more unexpected and dangerous than anything they could have imagined.”
Bigfoot is out for blood, though, and primed to kill anyone who comes after him. The horror film actually looks like it could be pretty brutal. This could end up being a surprisingly good film!
The cast includes Adrienne Barbeau, Brian Thompson, Ben Browder, Cheryl Texiera, Shoshana Bush, Hutch Dano, Matt Reidy, Anthony Ray Parker,...

"There's something moving, I don't know what it is!" Epic Pictures has unveiled an official trailer for the "this summer's biggest horror film" titled Hoax, another new bigfoot horror movie that looks quite gnarly. The film is about an investigative team that travels deep into the wilderness after a group of young campers are viciously murdered and linked to Bigfoot. If they work together they may live to prove the existence of Bigfoot, but what they discover may be more unexpected & dangerous than anything they could've imagined. Scary. The main ensemble cast includes Adrienne Barbeau, Brian Thompson, Ben Browder, Cheryl Texiera, Shoshana Bush, Hutch Dano, Matt Reidy, Anthony Ray Parker, Christopher Soren Kelly, Ryan Lee, Max Decker, Brian Landis Folkins, Karen Slack, & Shawn Rickel. This actually looks surprisingly quite epic, like they're trying to pull off making Predator for Bigfoot on an indie budget. "We have to consider that they're all lying to us." Gravitas Ventures has debuted an official trailer for an indie thriller titled Disappearance, the feature debut of filmmaker Matt Shapira. This is another one of these seductive sailboat mysteries where something goes wrong and someone dies (or disappears) from a boat and they have to figure out what really happened. Who really killed him? After the author George Boulangé disappears from his sailboat one night, Detective Kenny Park must try to figure out what happened by interviewing his wife, girlfriend, and the captain. Starring Matt Marsden, Hutch Dano, Cortney Palm, Jemma Dallender, Reggie Lee, Brian Thompson, & Guy Wilson. This looks bland and forgettable, and very cheesy (that awful music in the trailer my goodness). This one you can skip. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Matt Shapira's Disappearance, direct from YouTube: When author George Boulangé agrees to the wishes of his wife,...

It’s been somewhat impossible to detangle any critical consideration of Fox’s “The Orville” from “Star Trek,” the franchise to which it’s hard to deny a connection. But even when evaluating “The Orville” on its own merits at the start of Season 1, the first three episodes screened by critics were hard-going, as Seth MacFarlane’s “space adventure” featured a wildly fluctuating tone, major pacing issues, and entire scenes that served only to deliver exposition.
It was enough to inspire a harsh review when the show premiered. But while the problems with those early episodes were numerous, some of them could be attributed to the sort of stumbles that occur at the beginning of any new series.

Once upon a time, there was a goofy little show called Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It’s first TV outing, a mid-season replacement that only contained 12 episodes, premiered to mixed responses. Whilst the potential was clearly there, it was easy to write it off as just a little too silly, a little too… odd. Nevertheless, it was granted a Season Two, which premiered on September 15th, 1997.
And this is where shit got serious.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 2 is truly a remarkable season of television. This is the year when the writers realised that not only were they making something special here, but that they were capable of producing some incredible content. Whilst the first half does maintain some of the less than impressive traits of Season One, such as poor quality filler episodes (containing mummies) and some rather rubbish bad guys (the zombie from episode 2 and literally everything to...

We round up the latest horror-tinged Blu-ray and DVD releases....
So, after a brief hiatus, it turns out a lot’s happened in the few months between these round ups. A snap general election has been called, terror has struck at the heart of Manchester and a scandal approaching Watergate levels has hit the U.S presidency. More importantly, Troll 2 has finally come to UK Netflix and is the cherry on the cake made entirely of a series of kind of wonderful, kind of… not films on DVD and Bluray.
So, 1990’s Troll 2, you may or may not be aware of, is generally regarded as one of the very greatest 'so bad it’s good' movies. There are many worse (The Rollerblade Seven or Gary Oldman little person rom-com Tiptoes come to mind), though it’s difficult to think of many other truly awful movies...

Had Sylvester Stallone had his way, the now cult classic Beverly Hills Cop would have been a much different film. Before Eddie Murphy was cast in the role that would define his acting career, the part of Axel Foley was offered to Sly. Belladonna Of Sadness
Release Date: Coming Soon from Cinelicious Pics Written By: Yoshiyuki Fukuda, Jules Michelet (novel), Eiichi Yamamoto Directed By: Eiichi Yamamoto Starring: Tatsuya Nakadai, Katsuyuki Itô, Aiko Nagayama
When I heard about Cinelicious Pics’ plans to restore and release the long lost 1973 anime Belladonna Of Sadness, I was well and truly excited. So that being said, and with those expectations set freakin’ sky high, let’s see if ol’ Belladonna was worth the wait or will it just fill me with sadness of my own!

Do you remember what you did for Valentine's Day in 1991? Well, if you were old enough to see an R-rated movie, there's a chance that you might have celebrated the lovey-doviest of holidays by seeing one of the scariest thrillers of all time. Yep, Silence of the Lambs, the movie that made an anti-hero out of a guy who eats people's faces, opened in theaters on Feb. 14, 1991 - 25 years ago this week. A quarter-century later, the film hasn't left pop culture. That's in part because it was such a disturbing film. The cannibalism-deterring muzzle worn by Hannibal Lector (Anthony Hopkins), for example,...

[Originally appeared in Deadly Magazine #5] For nine seasons (and two feature films), fans of The X-Files became engrossed with FBI Special Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully’s search for the truth and along the way, we were introduced to numerous supporting characters that helped them (or did their damnedest to foil their efforts) along the way. Here’s a look back at some of The X-Files’ greatest unusual suspects.
Deep Throat (Jerry Hardin)
Mulder’s first informant when the X-Files division of the FBI was established. A member of The Syndicate who wanted to expose some of the secrets the government had tried desperately to keep hidden, Deep Throat was tragically gunned down while trading an alien embryo for Mulder’s life in the first season finale, “The Erlenmeyer Flask.”

On Sunday, January 24th, Fox will bring back Chris Carter’s brilliant series, The X-Files, for a six-episode revival run that will reunite beloved FBI Special Agents Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) for more alien-related exploits.
The last time we saw The X-Files on the airwaves during its initial run was back in May 2002, so if you watched the series throughout its nine seasons, you may be in need of a refresher on all the key players and integral storylines that make up the core mythology of The X-Files.
Mythology in regards to The X-Files could mean various things: the existence of aliens and how our government plays into that, various characters that fit in with different prophecies, the “Black Oil” that became a prominent antagonistic force during season three, the various conspirators and their attempts to derail Mulder and Scully’s work on the X-Files, Scully’s...

One of the most impressive technical feats in "Terminator: Genisys" is the inclusion of the 1984 original "The Terminator" version of Arnold Schwarzenegger's T-800. A combination of a body double with CG assistance, the result is a decently convincing recreation of the early scenes set around the Griffith Observatory in James Cameron's first film.
One such moment is where the nude T-800 confronts three punks and demands their clothes. The dialogue, location and camera angles are the same, but one key difference are the punks themselves. Bill Paxton and Brian Thompson starred as two of the three original punks and have since gone on to have notable careers. Some have wondered why Paxton's character at least didn't undergo a similar CG-assisted de-aging process.
In a new interview with Cinema Blend, director Alan Taylor was asked this very question and said the reason was simply the case of taking things...

When looking at eighties action heroes Jean-Claude Van Damme managed to make a name for himself in a genre built upon already big names and even bigger egos. Although A.W.O.L. The 1992 Full Moon flick Doctor Mordrid starring Jeffrey Combs was originally intended to be a Doctor Strange movie. Unfortunately, the rights reverted back to Marvel before Charles Band could get the film made.
With an actual Doctor Strange movie in the works, it seems fitting Band would give his pseudo-take on the character the Blu-ray treatment.
Re-Animator’s Jeffrey Combs dons his finest Doctor Strange lounge-wear to play enigmatic interdimensional sorcerer/New York landlord Dr. Anton Mordrid, sworn to protect our world by guarding the gates of the fourth dimension from his mortal enemy, the diabolical warlock Kabul (Brian Thompson, "The X-Files"), while also finding the time to for a little romance with a pretty police research consultant tenant (Yvette Nipar, “Robocop: The Series”).
When Band lost the rights to make a Doctor Strange movie, C. Courtney Joyner’s script was rewritten to create an entirely new supernatural superhero...

To begin, Paramount has announced "Doctor Who" star Matt Smith has joined the cast of their Terminator reboot, aka Terminator: Genesis, playing a new character with a strong connection to John Connor (Jason Clarke), alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese, J.K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi and Byung Hun Lee. Additionally, stuntman Aaron V. Williamson (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) has been cast as a T-800 Terminator, perhaps a younger version of Schwarzenegger's character as Schwarzenegger told MTV "Terminatordeals a lot with time travel, so there will be a younger T-800, and then what that model does later on when it gets reprogrammed, and who gets ahold of him." Interestingly enough, that might feed into a new rumor coming from HitFix, reporting on a draft of the screenplay they read and how the new film may be incorporating an aged Schwarzenegger into the role of the Terminator.

88 Films are a company that release some real oddities when it comes to movies, and most of them come from Charles Band’s Full Moon company. Doctor Mordrid is one of these, and hiding away in the nineties section of direct to video releases is very reminiscent to a certain Marvel character known as Dr. Strange. With a little research it comes as no surprise that Albert Band (who directed this along with Charles) once held the option to make a live action Dr. Strange movie, but when this ran out…the characters and movie were altered and yes, you guessed it we were left with Doctor Mordrid.

Birthdays. A celebration of the annual 'hanging another year on the line'. Balloons, cake and presents do the job when you're younger, while Grandpa/Grandma joke cards and booze do the job for the older ones. Buffy, on the other hand, is turning 17 in the bleakest fashion possible. Not only is she up against a giant blue joykiller called The Judge, she's about to find that her boyfriend isn't quite the man she thought he was.
Surprise/Innocence occurs at that mid-point segment of a Buffy season in which the rules change (think of the revelation of Adam or Travers firing Giles, for example). This two-parter is one of the biggest goalpost shifts in the series: the point in which Angel turns from the vampire with a soul to the evil Angelus. Up until now, we've been fed scraps of information about Angelus' fiendish ways: How he killed his family; how he psychologically tortured Drusilla.

The Bourne Legacy may not quite have kicked the franchise in the robust new direction hoped for, but it certainly gave a boost to the professional clout of writer Tony Gilroy. He's now producing the indie thriller Nightcrawler, the directorial debut of his brother Dan Gilroy. Jake Gyllenhaal and Rene Russo will be heading his cast.Dan also wrote the film, which involves "a driven young man who discovers the nocturnal world of freelance crime journalism in La". So nothing to do with blue mutants that go Bamf! then. Nor the Scottish techno band; telekinetic Twilight Zone military units; or that Brian Thompson guy in Cobra. Oh wait, he was the Night Slasher. Makes all the difference.Gilroy (Dan) was the co-writer on Legacy and has the "story" credit on Shawn Levy's Real Steel. Welcome to another set of complete reviews in which I attempt to prattle on about two of the most famous Joss Whedon creations: Buffy The Vampire Slayer (1997-2003) and Angel (1999-2004).
On the surface of it, a TV series franchise stemming from a so-so movie about a teenage girl who stakes vampires doesn't inspire much confidence. In 1992, the film, Buffy The Vampire Slayer pitted Kristy Swanson as the eponymous heroine against a mean old vampire king called Lothos and his motley crew of blood-sucking fiends. The movie didn't exactly set the world ablaze, staked by lukewarm reviews and moderate box office takings.
Writer Joss Whedon was nothing if not persistent though. Translating the original concept to the small screen was something of a gamble, given the tepid reactions to the preceding film. How could it possibly work?
And yet, sixteen years later, Buffy is still a huge phenomenon. Seven seasons were produced.

Born in the Big Apple in january of 1951, Sheldon Lettich moved with his family to the West Coast at a young age. After finishing High School, he joined the Marine Corps, serving his country for four years, one of them as a Radio Operator in Vietnam.
Partially based upon his experiences in Southeast Asia, he co-authored Tracers, a play seen in the Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago and London stages, to great acclaim; It subsequently won the prestigious Drama Desk and L.A. Drama Critics Awards.
The writing of screenplays seemed like a natural progression and his writing eventually began attracting the attention of many Hollywood producers.
Since then, Lettich has become known as expert in testosterone-driven action extravaganzas, many of the films starring some of the silver screen´s best-loved slugfest protagonists: Sylvester Stallone (Sheldon shared screenwriting credit with Sly in the third cinematic episode of the Rambo series,...

Last night saw more than 1,000 Manchester film fans experience a screening of James Cameron’s classic film, The Terminator, hosted by Jameson Cult Film Club. Jameson took over Victoria Warehouse for the unique 80s-inspired film event, re-enacting the famous nightclub scene from the film and hosting a techno rave at ‘Tech Noir’. Guests also got the chance to meet original cast member, Brian Thompson who played opposite Arnie as one of the ‘Punks’ in the film. Brian – who flew in from Hollywood especially for the event – took to the stage to introduce the film and answer fans’ questions about all things Terminator. Check out the Q&A below:
Terminator… 20 years on, why do you think it is the ultimate cult movie?
It’s a cult classic because it has an original plot, and so endures the test of time.
What do you remember about being cast in the movie?
This is very interesting!
